Staff were very helpful, attentive
We had a lovely room, I have back problems and asked for memory foam topper or soft mattress. Unfortunately our mattress was very firm, too firm for my back, this causes my back to seize and tighten.
We asked for a quiet room and it was until early morning.
So I had a very uncomfortable night and did not sleep well as it caused me pain.
It's a shame as the booking said my request was accepted so I assumed the mattress was as requested.
These are external noises and no fault of the George but with it being an end room and opposite a busy shop, car park and Ally way consideration should have been take regarding it being quiet!
We were woken 4/5 times from 5.30-8.
First by the refuse collection lorry, then what sounded like a leaf blower outside, then trollys being pushed back and forth with stock from the shop opposite, then the council workers using a wacker plate to fix the pavement/road out back by the car park and last of all, the shop below ,early doors when the alarm went off as they entered the building.
You actually couldn't write it!
This said the room was nicely decorated, clean, tea, coffee facilities, TV, towels etc. So we'll presented.

Room was clean, tidy and comfortable
Just one blanket, had to have the heating on to keep warm, and single-glazed windows couldn’t help either.

The new owners/management are making a real effort to tidy and improve the George since my last stay 18 months ago
friendly and accommodating staff.
A bit tied to Breakfast times due to other non guest Parties using the facility. Not a big deal as there is a cafe just close if the Early options are just too early for your stay

Value for money. Fish and chips very good. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Attention to detail missing in pub. For example, postal delivery boxes sitting on bar during breakfast. Not really an issue but you asked!
Plus I wouldn't sit outside smoking if it was my business.

very small cramped room- very different to the photos.
breakfast is not with the value for money. box of dry cereal or English breakfast is the only options available.
struggling to sleep due to loud noise from the pub that goes on till the early hours of the morning

central location , very comfortable room and excellent friendly staff

Right in the middle of the historic and interesting town. Paid for parking was cheap and very near to the hotel
The carpets were in desperate need of replacement and the general cleaning level of cleaning could be improved, although the bed linen was very clean.

I didn’t like the noise lever on Sunday there was for some reason a DJ set up just outside of the window to my room playing extremely loud house musical all afternoon so loud that I couldn’t hear the tv and was left with no choice but to check out

Good location very central for touring
Lovely old town
Character building
Good breakfast
The heated towel rail was on in bathroom making bedroom like a sauna when we arrived during one of the hottest spells of the summer
Hotel needs some tlc
Not much atmosphere in the bar/ lounge
One of the managers was not very friendly or helpful

Very clean room, great pub
Sadly the breakfast did not cater for gluten-free customers

Bed was really comfortable
Room and corridors had been updated to a good quality of linen, curtains, bathroom to a high standard
Shower was excellent - good water pressure
New toilet / shower facilities in place - better than expected - white towels nice and fluffy
Evening meals very good, filling and tasty
Filtered coffee was a bonus at breakfast
Great modern tv in the room
Room much smaller than expected
Room being in a separate old building (with mega steep stairs) - having to open an outer door first with no light above working so very difficult to find keyhole in the dark even more so in the rain
Bathroom mirror obviously was a light up mirror but nowhere to turn on!
More pillows on the bed (especially if one wants to sit up and watch tv!) would have expected scatter cushions at least (even if a couple of spare pillows stored in the wardrobe) had to go down to reception to request more (no phone in the room to ring)
Choice of orange juice 'with bits' in rather than just plain cheap quality basic one.
Not much fresh fruit for choice - just either banana (overripe) and apples
Breakfast was basic, plain, portion controlled (sausage was chewy not good) - would have been nice to have been asked: how many slices of bacon / sausages ? or how would you like your eggs done? - even to have hash browns, fried bread included to make it a traditional English breakfast

The positioning in the town centre is great. Lots of hangers in the large wardrobe (room 7) and a very big bathroom. Comfy bed and very nice sheets. Towels great.
The steps up to the rooms are very steep and no lift - hard to carry bags. The decor in the room and communal areas is very tired and dated with many small repairs needing doing (damaged walls, flooring coming away). The room wasn't particulaly clean - drawers with things left in and items on the floor behind the bedside table. The carpet needs replacing - you wouldnt wnat to step on it without your slippers on. The bathroom was huge but only one very small glass shelf over the sink - no where to put toilet bags etc. The breakfast was very basic - only 1 of everything on the plate and looked very meger. The staff seemed fairly disinterested. On our second day the fire alarm went off early morning. They couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Although we convened outside, no instruction from the staff as to what to do. Told us they didn't have time to do breakfast that day and sent us to a cafe round the corner (excellent breakfast there) but no apology or offer to pay for our breakfast (which was included at the George). All in all, very dissapointing

English breakfast could have been more of it. Cooked good
Room had no drawers to put items in bigger than smalls ie socks
Informing us about restaurant not opening on a Tuesday

The hotel itself was lovely, room was a good size and light and airy. Few bits of the furniture needed attention and repairs, handles missing from drawers. Bed was comfy and decor was nice. shower was hot and powerful.
Early check in requested (just 2 hours early) as we had a wedding to attend but this was declined. Breakfast and the host left a lot to be desired. Breakfast was a massive let down, hardly anything on a “full English” was given literally four slices of a mushroom, one sausage, one bit of bacon, beans and an egg - toast was burnt and like cardboard. We wished we had gone elsewhere and paid for a different breakfast with nicer food and a nicer atmosphere. We felt like a bit of an inconvenience. Also listening to staff moan to each other about a telephone call taken from a guest who had some queries and had booked through booking.com.

Fire alarm went off early in the morning, v loud and awful; we had to quickly dress and leave..the staff had lost key for it. Wouldn’t therefore serve breakfast but were rude and unapologetic despite it being included in our room.
