About this house rental
NEW HOUSE ON NORTH ELEUTHERA'S BEST HIDDEN TREASURE: WHALE POINT
Lazy Turtle House is a newly built 2.5 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom villa with spectacular water views from every aspect. Located on the secluded peninsular of Whale Point, North Eleuthera, Lazy Turtle House is nestled between a pretty lagoon and a shallow, turquoise harbor where you will find some of the calmest and clearest water on the planet - brimming with sea turtles and colorful reef fish just waiting to say hello.
Lazy Turtle House features 2000 sq feet of spacious decks, both covered and uncovered, for sunbathing, ocean views, sunset cocktails, outdoor dining - everything you need to relax and recharge.
- Elegantly furnished throughout, the house is topped with a unique roof deck accessed from a 10' x 10' reading/sleeping loft. The loft has a full twin sized daybed and can be used for sleeping, although there is no direct access to the main bathroom, and no air conditioning, but there are usually good breezes, the windows have screens and there is a large ceiling fan.
- Enjoy panoramic views and breezes with shaded seating, a sit-up bar perfect for sunset cocktails and a luxurious hammock for sunbathing and stargazing.
- The open plan ground floor has a dining table for 8, comfortable lounge chairs and a modern kitchen with breakfast bar.
- Upstairs, the master bedroom has a view to die for. The queen-size bed has a sumptuous 13" mattress for the best night's sleep!
- The large modern bathroom with a spacious walk-in travertine shower is shared with the second bedroom.
- The second bedroom has 2 twin beds that can be easily converted to a queen bed.
- The substantial upper floor deck has a harbor-view table and seating that is perfect for a lazy breakfast or lunch with a view.
- Private high speed internet throughout the house.
- Just 40 steps from the beach and shallow, turquoise harbor. We have 2 kayaks, a stand up paddleboard and many floaties for you to enjoy.
Please note:
- No guests under the age of 13. Maximum of 4 guests.
- Car rental companies will not rent to anyone under 25 years old.
- The house is supplied with 2 masks, snorkels and fins, but if you're serious about snorkeling/free diving it's worth bringing your own equipment that fits perfectly.
- Eleuthera is the real deal! If you are looking for a sanitized Atlantis-type Bahamian experience this is not the island for you. Even quaint little Harbour Island will be busy/noisy in comparison to Eleuthera. If you love nature and wildlife, clear water, beaches without footprints, a little live music, genuine and friendly locals... you will find a piece of paradise here!
- A number of grocery stores now also take credit cards and have a lot of what you'll need - unless you have specific dietary requirements. Prices are higher than in the States though. Please ask what's worth bringing with you and what isn't.
The main bathroom is shared between the two bedrooms, en suite for both, and each door can be locked.
This is a tropical island with tropical insects, depending on season and rainfall. Please consider using insect repellent for your comfort. All windows are fitted with insect screen.
Great snorkeling, kayaking and bonefishing will be right on your doorstep - the sandy beach is 40 steps from the house. Romantic Harbour Island for fine dining and shoulder-rubbing with celebrities is 30 minutes away, and is also a great starting point for your scuba diving and deep sea fishing excursions. Multiple deserted beaches and famous local attractions such as the Sapphire Blue Hole, Queens Baths, Preacher's Cave, Surfer's Beach, Hatchet Bay Caves, and Glass Window Bridge are all within a 20 minute drive of Whale Point, as is Gregory Town, home of the annual world-famous Pineapple Fest. Also close by are some great bars and restaurants such as Daddy Joes, The Cove and many more. If you can't live without your sports, ask Tiffany to find your favorite team on TV at the Daddy Joes bar.
2 inflatable kayaks (210lb capacity) an SUP, and 2 sets of snorkel gear are included with the rental. Paddle boards are available to hire. The owner will gladly help you with arranging excursions such as day sailing charters, swimming with pigs, surf lessons, eco tours, as well as all manner of local knowledge.
Whale Point is a quiet retreat with empty beaches, and inquisitive tourists are kept at bay by bumpy access down a long dirt road. A small SUV car rental or similar is recommended, plenty take credit cards. Taxis to local attractions and for airport transfers, as well as water taxis to Harbour Island can be arranged.
Please note that base price is for 2 guests and each additional guest is charged at $25pp per night.

This property and the owners of it are nothing but perfect. The pictures in the listing, as beautiful as they are, don't do this place justice. We spent ten days of peaceful bliss at this beautiful house and could not have wanted anything more perfect. There is no one for over a quarter mile in any direction except for turtles, fish and stingrays. The hosts were extremely helpful anytime my wife or I had any questions or needed any suggestions. We look forward to visiting again soon!

I would like to thank Mark and Susan for providing not only us but everyone who has shared the experience at such a special place to stay while visiting Eleuthera.
More importantly I would like to thank Susan for the assistance and over the top care, insight and knowledge she was able to provide us as we arrived as fairly severe weather was hitting the island. She's truly a remarkable and genuinely great person. So again, thank you so very much Susan!
The home as well as the entire property are truly a gem. Comfortable, clean, relaxing, tasteful, and meticulously cared for in every manner. The use of space, decor, the outdoor living areas, and every last inch of the home were well thought out and well executed. To truly experience the property, you'll want to spend time there as the wildlife, harbor and tidal shifts provided constant trips of curiosity to the waterfront which is only a few steps from the front porch. You'll likely see turtles, and possibly a Ray or two as well.
For first timers considering a trip to the island, there is a saying you should likely consider.
'Eleuthera, it's not for everyone!'
It seriously may not be for you as well. Do your research and perform your due diligence about the island.
If Eleuthera is for you and your family I couldn't suggest a better place, with better hosts to stay with than Mark and Susan from the Lazy Turtle.
As for our family... Eleuthera is for us, as is the Lazy Turtle. I miss it already.

Out of all the rental properties myself and my wife have visited, the Turtle House is at the top of our list. From the moment we booked, our host/hosts were immediately helpful, responsive, and considerate of our needs and questions. I never factored in the importance of a truly gracious host, but boy did this property change my thinking. Mark, the primary host listed for this property, was traveling during our stay, and we had the delight of being greeted by his partner/wife Susan. She was by far the most accommodating and personable person that we have ever met in regards to out of country traveling accommodations. Both Susan, and Mark, went out of their way to ensure we had the knowledge, confidence, and insight, to explore Eleuthera as if it was our own familiar stomping grounds. Coming to the Bahamas, or any country outside your own can be an intimidating experience at first. Let me just say, any and all queries or concerns were IMMEDIATELY resolved.
The home was so clean, you could eat dinner off of the floor. The property so perfectly nestled amongst the palms and greenery, that you feel as though you are lost in the jungle (in only the best of ways). Their private beach, and rooftop deck offer the best view of the sunset that you could imagine, with gin clear waters just beyond your doorstep. Don’t bother booking a turtle excursion, as less than 500ft down the beach is a literal sea turtle sanctuary, where dozens of turtles call their happy home. The perfect stay.

We stayed in the Lazy Turtle with our two daughters, 14 and 16, and we loved it! It's quite exciting to drive the access road for the first time - it's rough and you wonder where it will lead you. In fact - into paradise. The house is surrounded by verdant plants and the palm trees rustle in the wind. The Lazy Turtle itself is awesome: The porches are visually beautiful and at the same time very comfortable for sitting there in the shadow and getting a little wind around your nose. The roof-deck is just amazing - especially when laying in the hammock or looking directly to the turquoise ocean. Inside you see so many examples for perfect joinery and other handicraft: It makes the house unique, beautiful and very comfortable. It ist also a great joy to cook in the kitchen. The beds are comfy and waking up and looking right to the ocean is without words. Although we normally don't like AC very much because of its energy consumption and noise we were grateful to have it since it was really hot and humid. As we had a precise control of the AC it was neither too cold nor too noisy, just pleasant. The bay and its clear and very warm water ist literally only a few steps away and is brilliant for swimming, snorkeling or kayaking. Before we came here I couldn't believe that we will actually see turtles in the water, just swimming by. But it's true. You can enjoy and observe the turtles with a calm conscience because you don't need to book any questionable tour or feed them.

My wife and I started here for the first leg of our honeymoon. It was exactly what we were hoping for! Secluded feel, amazing views, and super comfortable! Mark and his wife were extremely helpful in getting us set up properly, they even reserved our rental car on the island (which is necessary to explore everything). The house was also well stocked with pots, pans, spices which made cooking in this serene setting that much more enjoyable! Their recommendations and travel guide that gives all the local tips for restaurants, shopping, and water activities was spot on too! We can’t wait to go back!

Lazy Turtle made our stay is Eleuthera amazing. The attention to detail in the house is astounding. A breathtaking view every morning and evening from the master bedroom was definitely a highlight. The kayaks were so much fun to use in the bay. Mark and Susan are very friendly and helpful. It was fun to talk to them and get their perspective and insight about the island. If ever given the chance to stay here, do it - you won’t be disappointed!

My husband and I booked a last minute getaway to Eleuthera. We knew next to nothing about the location before coming, but we absolutely lucked out with this property and the amazing hosts. It is hard to even know where to start to describe how wonderful, peaceful, and beautiful this home is. The location is perfection - it is secluded without being too far from restaurants, activities, etc. The views are exquisite both on the ocean side and the lagoon side.
The home itself is immaculate. You can tell everything was thoughtfully constructed and designed. What made this even more impressive was that our wonderful hosts built the home themselves. The custom rooftop patio, the spiral staircase, the artwork - all thoughtfully picked and it showed. The pictures in their listing do not do it justice which I feel is a rare find.
Our hosts - what wonderful humans. We interacted primarily with Susan during our stay and she made us feel incredibly welcome, just like we were old friends. They have such a love for their home and nature. Susan was so accommodating and helpful during our stay and it was truly a pleasure to get to know her. She and Mark pre-made a list of local attractions (both on the north end of the island and the south end), restaurants (both on Eleuthera and Harbour Island), contact information for car rentals, contact info for water taxi services and the ferry. The list goes on and on, but everything was meticulously done to a tee.
I wish I could give 100 stars for this VRBO!

This is an amazing property, so clean and well appointed with everything you need to make your stay comfortable! Susan and Mark were so kind and informative, they really made us feel welcome! We loved using the kayaks and having coffee every morning on the upper deck! We loved every thing about our stay, can’t wait to come back!

We were on the island for a wedding and a much needed break and were lucky enough to find the Lazy Turtle.
Hidden away on the edge of the water line its an idyllic place to escape the world.
The building is beautiful and modern with everything you could need and the most incredible views. The stunning little beach line is 100ft through the trees and is a dream. Quiet, full of sea life (especially the turtles) and hosts the most stunning views, especially at sunset.
If you want to escape the world, be alone with your thoughts and the turtles, this place is perfect.

The house has spectacular views!! We especially enjoyed the kayaks that come with house, as the beach & bay are a few steps away! We kayaked most days when it wasn’t too windy. We saw starfish, rays, and had the best sunset views in the bay from the kayaks, or the rooftop deck.
The house is lovely and well stocked. Mark & Susan are both very responsive, and they have lots of recommendations for places to go, places to eat.
You must have a car, because this house is a bit remote, but there are lots of people around, and a really delicious, fun Bahamian restaurant about 10 minutes away.
You’ll also want a car to explore the island! The Bahamian people are so friendly and gracious.

The Lazy Turtle is perfection. The house feels remote but is ideally located to explore everything Eleuthera has to offer. We could have spent the entire week snorkeling off their beach had we wanted to. We saw sea turtles, rays and even a bay shark just steps from the porch of the Lazy Turtle (there is a secluded outdoor shower to rinse off as well). The house features three beautifully decorated floors, one full, extra-large bathroom and a small powder room off the first-floor living room. The kitchen, dining area, and living room are open-plan. The two bedrooms on the second floor share the primary bathroom. The primary bedroom looks out onto the bay and has access to a large porch (there is another door off the hallway) that includes two chairs as well as a booth-style table for eating. Off the hallway is a spiral staircase that leads up to a small reading/napping nook and the rooftop patio. The sunrises and sunsets from the patio are stunning. There are binoculars for watching the boats on the bay, and we also brought a small portable telescope for star gazing. The rooftop patio has two seating areas and both have wonderful views. In addition to the house itself, the owners provide little conveniences you might not realize you need like beach coolers, two beach chairs and even an umbrella. There are inflatable kayaks and basic snorkel equipment if you need it. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook including some basic staples and plenty of drinking water (we brought reusable water bottles and filled them every day). There is no tv, but we found that to be an added bonus. The owners live nearby and were happy to answer questions. Even before we traveled they'd emailed with information on restaurants and grocery stores and even made rental car recommendations. This was a nice change from our previous experience with an owner who lived off the island. You can't go wrong with the house or the location of the Lazy Turtle.

I found the property absolutely perfect. It is the most comfortable, luxurious house I could ever imagine. And yet it is extremely functional. Care has been taken in every single detail. It was designed, built and decorated by magicians and artists. I cannot say enough good things about it!

If you are looking for seclusion, peace and quiet, endless stars and lots of sea turtles this place is for you. This was our first trip to the Bahamas. From the moment I first contacted Mark inquiring about the property until the day we checked out his communication was quick and helpful. Every single place we went or ate was based on his and his wife's recommendations. We've never had more attentive or helpful hosts.
The house was probably the cleanest we've ever stayed in and this is a big deal to me. We had everything we needed and more in the kitchen and all the appliances worked perfectly. There is a regular cooler and a soft sided cooler you can take with you to the beach or on day excursions. We ate outside every morning looking at the view and listening to the frogs and birds.
The master bedroom and bath were super spacious with plenty of room for our luggage, etc. The view from the bedroom will leave you speechless. The lighting in the house is amazing. Being a new house they thought out the lighting very well and I was impressed with that.
We went to the rooftop every night and always saw shooting stars. You can see so far and with no light pollution you might see shooting stars on one side, but a storm moving across the other side with a good lightning show.
The beach is small, but is soooo peaceful and there was room to get some sun. There are also inflatable floats and noodles, along with the kayaks and snorkel gear provided.
The best part of all was all the sea turtles that are literally right off the beach. We did kayak around to the mangrove side and saw endless amounts of sea turtles and crabs. We were lucky enough to see a ray right near the beach one day and also while snorkeling a ways down the beach.
We went to Eleuthera during off season so everywhere we went we basically had the place to ourselves. Mark did not steer us wrong on restaurants or gift shops. The location of the house made it doable to get to the ferry, Gregory Town, Governor's Harbour, etc. We drove as far as Governor's Harbor for dinner one night and it wasn't too bad of a drive, but you just have to be careful and go slow as many people walk in the road. We rented an SUV as was recommended by Mark since the road to the house is rough and after a rain there are good sized puddles.
We loved our stay and highly recommend it. Susan and Mark made it easy for us and gave us great tips.

This was the quintessential relaxeling, unplugged stay. With nature as your neighbor, my wife and I had our own little private beach in a beautiful bay, we see turtles floating by to check is out was the only disturbance. A great neighborhood for a jog or just lounging on the upper deck watching the stars (lots of shooting stars during our stay), it had all we needed. The host go above and beyond to make sure we had all we needed with frequent contact to arrange a day on a boat or water taxi straight from the cabin to Harboour Island. Would love to come back. 5 stars

Mark and Susan’s place is extremely clean and beautiful. They are two of the nicest people you will ever meet. They are very accommodating and quick to respond to questions. We spent 8 nights there and it wasn’t long enough. The view is gorgeous and the property feels very secluded but is still located close enough to restaurants and grocery stores. We would highly recommend staying here and we would love to stay again in the future!

Best VRBO Experience To Date
Stunning vacation house in an amazingly beautiful location. The house an immaculately kept, modern 3 story beach house, well-appointed with full modern amenities, with your very own private beach within 50 feet from the front door on one side and a saltwater lagoon on the other. It boasts hardwood floors throughout, with floor to ceiling windows in the living/dining room and master bedroom. With a wraparound lanai on the first floor and another half lanai on the second floor surrounding the master bedroom, with wooden benches and tables for outdoor dining. The third deck rooftop overlooks stunning views of both the crystal clear turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean and the salt water lagoon. The rooftop is well equipped for hosting, dining, dancing and enjoying drinks while watching the sun set. The house is ideal for a romantic getaway, and or family and friends get-together. Although the house has AC, it is not needed as the Seabreeze keeps the house cool day or night. On the ocean side and approximately 200 feet from your private beach there is a dock where you can catch a water taxi or take a fishing boat charter. Next to the dock, is the inlet to the lagoon that goes behind the house, which you can explore and fish with the kayaks provided by the host. Additionally, right at the inlet is a turtle sanctuary , where you can swim with sea turtles. The turtles will eat right out of your hand. The hosts were great and very helpful, providing local information (restaurants, sightseeing, shopping, car rental, fishing charters, etc.) and kept in touch throughout our stay to ensure all our needs were met without being intrusive. I have very discerning tastes and expect great service and demand nothing short of perfection. I don’t normally review unless the experience is completely lacking or it exceeds my expectations, this is the latter. I have visited over 300 cities in 76 countries around the world for business and pleasure and I can honestly say this was one of the best vacation experiences to date, truly a 5 star experience in every way. I usually don’t visit the same place twice, but was o impressed, I plan on coming back next year. I highly recommend this the Lazy Turtle. Mark & Susan, thank you so much for being such wonderful hosts and for an amazing experience.

Lazy Turtle and Mark and Susan are outstanding! This was our 2nd trip to Lazy Turtle within 1 year. Before the end of the trip, we were already planning our next two visits!
The house is made with such care - everywhere you look you can tell that much thought went into it. The view from the main bedroom is outstanding and I wish I could wake up like that every morning. The house has everything you need for your stay. The beach associated with the home is absolutely perfect as well. My boyfriend and I brought our paddle boards from the States and paddled every day. The critters that show up around the clock are so entertaining. Even if you decide to spend a day around the property you will surely be more than satisfied!
We go to the grocery store from the airport before arrival and stock up on items needed for cooking during the week and snacks for the beach. The grocery store is about a 20-30 minute drive so I would recommend planning in advance to ensure you have your essentials.
While I want to keep Lazy Turtle our little secret - Mark and Susan are the kindest homeowners and the world should know of this perfect gem within Eleuthera. Staying here truly feels like home and we can't wait to return to Lazy Turtle and Eleuthera!

What a treat! I’m reluctant to tell others just how lovely this property and hosts were but here we are. Our stay was just perfect! We couldn’t have wanted anything more. Our hosts greeted us upon arrival and ensured we didn’t have any questions or concerns. Hosts sent clear communication as soon as we booked, complete with directions and some good tips for our stay. We regret not staying longer! Location and amenities were perfect. We would love to return!

Excellent visit
Our stay at the lazy turtle house was fantastic from the beginning. The hosts were very good about communication both before and during our stay. The house was beautiful, clean, and well supplied. The location was perfect for us, as it was private and quiet, and you could roll out of bed and walk to the beach in a minute! You definitely need an SUV type vehicle to get to it though because the road is rough. Being able to see and even swim with sea turtles every day was a dream come true! We definitely plan to return to the lazy turtle!

Stop looking - stay here and start enjoying
From the first contact it was clear that Mark and Susan really cared about how they created and presented their property; and the location was everything it appears to be. A gorgeous view of the turquoise bay from different floors of the house; steps from Bottom Harbor beach; viewing turtles in the lagoon behind the house; snorkeling with parrotfish, tangs, sergeant majors, and more than a dozen other species, lobster, turtles, rays, snappers, and groupers just off the beach with brain coral and anemones. Just go. Eleuthera is filled with the kindest people, and the Whale Point community takes it to another level. From the moment of arrival to departure you will be amazed. Mark and Susan provided thoughtful suggestions for activities that can suit any appetite. “Eleuthera isn’t for everyone” but my only regret is not staying longer.

Absolutely beautiful and well thought out home that had a simplistic modern beach vibe. Mark and Susan were awesome and quick to respond if you had a question or needed a recommendation. We truly wish we could have planned a night to hang out with them!.
The home overlooks the water and is just a few steps to a calm bay with turtles everywhere. Stunning views, we promise to come back!!! Thank you Mark and Susan...we’ll be back to get our lost sock left behind😂

There is so much to say about how perfect the Lazy Turtle house and the location is! The house itself is beautiful and the view is spectacular. We loved that it was off the beaten path and it felt like our very own private beach. Mark & Susan have thought of every little thing that guests could possibly need- from great recommendations, all the way down to the thoughtful tropical flower arrangement! We saw lots of wildlife & had so much fun exploring the island. It was hard to leave, but we can’t wait to return!

Nice stay at the Lazy Turtle
First time to N Eleuthera Bahamas. Attended a family wedding near the house. Mark and Susan were great hosts. Met us at the boat dock and gave us a nice tour of their home. The house is really very very nice. New, Open, Modern, Comfortable. A great experience. Mark even was kind enough to drive us to our family's resort when we departed. I give it 5 stars and a must do rental. I would suggest renting a car for part of your stay. Nothing shopping wise or eating wise near the house. As advertised. :)

I don't know where to begin - this house is perfect. We were there for three weeks. The Lazy Turtle is an immaculate, private treasure. Every need has been anticipated and met beyond your expectations. The house is not only beautiful to look at, the furnishings are comfortable, the AC perfect, the overhead fans are quiet, the kitchen is fully equipped, there is music, and the wifi can support all your needs including watching movies at night (on your own screens) or two people on zoom calls during the work day if necessary. You are steps from a lovely beach on a harbor that is full of turtles, starfish and other wild life. Whale Point is very remote, which we really loved. You will need to rent a 4 wheel drive car for your stay. Mark and Susan are right around the corner, ready to meet any need (Vegetable peeler? Coming right up! Yoga mat? No problem.) We had weekly housekeeping and they did an amazing job. It is easy to take a day trip to Harbor Island for dining, shopping or mandatory Covid- Testing. The water taxi is $5.

Beautifully secluded
The Lazy Turtle was nothing short of GORGEOUS. We stayed while enjoying the warm weather and beautiful sunshine. The walk to the beach was shorter than expected as the road you have to cross to get there isn’t much of a road as it’s more of a hiking path 😂
Definitely will need a off roading type car to get to and from as we heard the islanders don’t want to pave the road because they don’t want people who don’t live there to come down the road to the gorgeous lagoon they have.
The house is 3 stories with the 3rd story being a porch-type level and roof top deck. The pictures are very accurate, except the time of year we stayed there (January) the beach was much smaller.
Since it is a small island, there is a “large” grocery store (about the size of a smaller American grocery store) about a 20 minute drive away.
Mark was very responsive and commutated well. He even helped us figure out what kind of fruit it was that we bought! We had Alexa playing music from spotify the majority of the time we were in the unit- so nifty!
Using the kayaks to explore and see baby sea turtles, starfish, and sting rays was amazing as well!
You’ll have a blast at this GORGEOUS unit!! Definitely worth the trip!
