Beautiful and clean home. Amazing host who replies quickly. Great home base for Acadia and Bar Harbor. I am already missing Maine and this gorgeous location.

Returning to Maine, we wanted a comfortable home base from which to explore. We loved the rustic charm of this house - it had all the comforts and modern amenities we needed, while feeling cozy and relaxed. It felt like an “old soul” with “deep wisdom.” We are eager to imagine a return to the area and this house.

I loved everything about this home, the road it's on and the surrounding area. Close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia to make day trips easy, yet at the end of the day you get to escape the crowds and come back to a place so peaceful and inviting that you feel like you really have come home. From the country kitchen, the comfortable bedrooms, the large, yet cozy, living room, the owners have created a space so charming I never wanted to leave. The home is beautifully decorated. I felt like I had stepped back in time, you could feel the history, the generations who lived there and all the love that the owners have put into maintaining that feeling. The fenced in yard and private courtyard were a huge bonus. Our dog was in heaven. The only minor inconvenience was that there was no WIFI when we arrived due to a power outage from a storm that passed through the day before. In order to get back on line in a timely fashion the owner asked us to buy a router and he will reimburse us. This was unfamiliar territory for all of us, as this had never happened to him or us. We did manage to purchase a router and get WIFI back, though I would rather not have spent vacation time doing this. But storms happen and it was nobody's fault. The rest of our time in Maine was wonderful and this home was the perfect place to return to after a day of adventuring around the area.

We stayed with our adult children and were thrilled to wake up each morning in the gracious and casually beautiful Cape Cod house with lots of light and views of Maine typography, pine trees, fields, and very pretty flowers. There was a sense of privacy and peacefulness as well as spaciousness for each of us to spread out to talk, to read, to cook and to eat. The kitchen was excellent for cooking and shared meals. We hope to return.
The house is only a few minutes drive from Frenchman’s Bay. There are trails for hiking just off Punkinville Road which is used by high school track students.
Being able to visit with dear friends who who live nearby made the visit perfect.

The owners of this property have invested a lot of thought and care in their ongoing efforts to restore this house. The kitchen was well appointed, the linens good ones and garden pleasant. We throughly enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I are both biologists and we loved this house and yard. The fencing provided a secure area for our midsized dog and she loved it. We normally stay on the quiet side of Acadia but loved the opportunity to explore the Schoodic and the local trails at this location. The hosts were great at responding quickly! We would definitely return to this quiet, homey house!

We could not have been happy with Steven's house. It was even better than pictured, if that's possible. The house was clean, beautifully decorated, with a well stocked kitchen. As writers, we wanted proximity to Acadia without the crowds, and this place was just the ticket! We thoroughly enjoyed our days hiking and writing, and then making dinner and building a fire in the cozy wood stove on chilly autumn evenings. Our Norwich Terrier was also in heaven: there is a lovely 2 mile loop in the Nature Preserve down the street, and a whole flock of wild turkeys made twice daily appearances. We would rent this house again in a heartbeat!
As other reviewers mentioned, the Dunbar Store is great for quick groceries. The local wine shop has limited hours: we took advantage of days in Acadia/Bar Harbor to get more substantial groceries at the Hannaford, and stock up at the wine shop in town.

Charming, historic yet comfortable house in Sullivan Maine provided us with the perfect bolthole to rest and relax after exploring the many natural wonders of Down East. Our doggie loved it too! Be sure to visit the Dunbar grocery store for fresh old fashioned donuts in the morning and a vaviety of provisions (lobsters too!) for a charming yet unpretentious local experience.

The rental process was so easy and the host responded promptly to all my questions. The house was in a nice location, close to restaurants, shopping, hiking, the ocean. We brought our 2 dogs along and we thoroughly enjoyed the fenced in yard. It was very private and relaxing. The house was great, tastefully decorated and had everything you could possibly need. It’s such a beautiful property and also a great place for stargazing.Steven was a very responsive host. If you need a place to relax and enjoy nature, this is it! We saw deer, turkeys and what we think was a bear cub. Loved it!

We enjoyed relaxing in this remote antique home. It was perfect to rejuvenate our energy after the art show in Bar Harbor.

This place was perfect in many ways. Location was close enough to everything we wanted to see and do, and the property was perfect for us. The second we walked in, I didn't want to leave! So quiet and relaxing. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this property!

Place was very nice. Helped out a little by unclogging the bathroom sink drain, replacing some light bulbs, and, because it's sooooooo dry, watered the garden & flowers. Would definitely come back again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Steve’s 18th century home. If you’re looking for both comfort and character, you can’t go wrong here. It’s a spacious old house, all on one floor, filled with modern conveniences—broadband wifi, a powerful gas stove, cable TV with streaming services like Roku—and decorated with a brilliant eye for color and collections (the latter from milk bottles to woven baskets). The grounds are charming too, with old fruit trees, a meadow across the way, and a sturdily fenced-in yard for dogs. Our Corgi loved it! It’s a truly beautiful spot, and Steve couldn’t have been more attentive and kind, even from afar. The neighbors are also nice! We had a truly wonderful time.

Maine dream location
This house is charming, comfortable and has the most complete kitchen I have ever rented. Steve responded quickly to all inquiries, provided lots of information in his personal letter as well as pamphlets stacked in the kitchen. Beds were sublime, wood stove easy to use, well lit and cheery rooms. The proximity to Acadia National Parks made it easy to hike all day and return for dinner. Winter Harbor was our favorite location for seafood supplies and a newer grocery store called Dunbat

My family of four (and our dog) loved staying in this impeccable home. The house and spot in the country are beautiful. The proximity to Acadia and other interesting spots is great. The morning sun in the living room cheered all. And the owner was lovely to deal with. We'd happily visit again. Highly recommend.

Quiet and relaxing home get away
We loved the house, with its open floor plan and country feel. The area was quiet and the stars magnificant at night. No problems to report. The owner is quick to respond to any issues and address them. The location is well suited to hiking trails accessible from the house, and swimming ponds and lakes are nearby so you don’t have to drive far to have fun. We enjoyed our visit very much.

We spent a week in this charming house in Sullivan, Maine. It was all prepared for us when we arrived, with beds all made up, towels in the bathroom, and everything nice and clean. The kitchen is fully equipped with dishes and cookware, and people are encouraged to help themselves to left-over condiments in the fridge. We had a very comfortable stay there. The location is great because there are hiking trails right off the street that the house is on, about 20 minutes away is a tucked-away beautiful pond for swimming, the picturesque Schoodic Peninsula is close by -- this is part of Acadia National Park and has a loop that is great for biking; the town of Ellsworth with lots of major stores is within easy reach by car, and the larger portion of Acadia National Park (Mount Desert Island) is about 45 minutes away. There are also a number of good restaurants in the area. I would definitely recommend this rental.

Charming Maine Getaway
Our family of four, along with our dog, stayed in this charming 2 bedroom home in a rural area of Acadia National Park. We had a wonderful time, and this was the perfect place to stay with all the comforts of home. The house is a light-filled, well maintained, comfortable and peaceful retreat, and we enjoyed traveling to different parts of Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The owner provided everything we needed and gave excellent directions and recommendations for area restaurants and hiking spots. I highly recommend this home!

My daughter always wanted a rustic house for our week long vacation to Acadia and this house perfectly suited our requirements. It has all the amenities of modern day living with atmosphere of an old house. The location is specially well suited for visiting Schoodic point which is Acadia's mainland park. Even commute to the Bar Harbor and Mt Desert Island(MDI) is not bad at all... We cooked during our entire stay and never faced any difficulty. Though the cell phone has poor coverage inside the house, owner has a landline(of course we never used it) and WIFI Internet is a plus. Owner's interactions were very pleasant and Steve has provided all the necessary help.

Lovely, comfortable, well-equipped and appointed.
Everything about our stay at this old farmhouse in Sullivan, Maine was perfect. The layout is fairly open for a house of this vintage and the rooms at the front of the house are sun-filled and comfortable. Although situated close to the road, there is little vehicular traffic. Easy-to-moderate conservation trails and blueberry-covered ledges are behind the house. Several charming harbor towns and peninsulas are within a 10 minute car trip or morning's bike ride.
Our dealings with the owner were cordial and efficient. Instructions were clear and not oppressive. All amenities and details about this house in the listing are accurate.

Charming house, rustic but with all modern comfort
we had a very nice time in this charming and rustic house. The owner is very meticulous with the details of the house, one can enjoy the rustic life style but yet has all the modern comfort. Not to mention that the house was so well stocked with everything of needs, such as spices, from olive oil sort of condiments, down to Qtips. Steve, the owner was very considerate, he send me few emails to make sure I know how to turn on the heater and the suggestions of where to eat on Sunday.
The house is very quiet despite its next to a road. Rarely there were cars that came by. It has 2 bedrooms, living room, and kitchen all on 1 floor, but it was very spacious. We cooked and ate in a lot, and the kitchen worked very well. The TV has HDMI, which I wished I knew because I could have brought the Apple TV. Every slept very well in this house, the beds were very comfortable, one queen and one full, plus air mattress if one needs it. Both BR were connected to the Bathroom, and it has a washer and dryer.
There were plenty Mosquitos just like rest of Maine, but the screen doors worked very well. This house is close to frenchman's bay, our kids had a lot fun there dig out some mussels.
Overall, we really enjoyed the house, had a nice country living experience. In fact, we extended 2 days of our stay.

The perfect getaway
Such an incredible home to nestle into and escape the hustle and bustle of every day life. The combination of historical farmhouse, well manicured garden and close-by coastal sights make this retreat the perfect get away. The owners have done a superb job dressing the interior in with elegant antiques to match its exterior charm. Its location is just enough off the beaten trail for a quiet rejuvenating moment, meanwhile your outdoor attractions and breathtaking landscape sights are just a short drive away. All in all, worth every minute of your time!
