The location is amazing, really lush green. Super clean property. Very good restaurant and bar (the best trout i had in my life). Greivin- the bird watching guy is very passionate about his work.
Nothing- everything was great

Town, photos = reality, kind staff, good food
If you use a wheelchair and/or travel with a lot of luggage, you might find it hard to move in the hotel facilities ... so many slopes.

Delicious!
Everything was great!

The room and grounds were beautiful. We saw and photographed quetzals near the lodge. Hot water bottles were nice for the cold night time temperatures.
We would have preferred better vegetarian options for dinner and breakfast.

The garden of the location is beautiful and there is a nice hiking trail right next to the hotel. You can also book multiple hikes/bird watching activities in the hotel. The morning walk to see the Quetzal was our highlight. The guide was very good and extremely friendly - and we saw the bird and got amazing pictures. One very nice touch was that they would put hot water bottles under your blanket for the rather cold nights.
The room was nice but rather simple. Wlan was only available in the common areas not in the rooms.

All of it, the location and grounds and trails, the room was very comfortable and had a wonderful view, the staff were so attentive and pleasant, the hot water bottle!

An amazing stay, the property is stunning with beautiful ponds, vegetation, birds, nature trails, a river with waterfalls and exceptional food. We were blown away by the details, including warm hot water bottles placed in our beds for warm sheets. If you love a lodge experience with a natural feel, this stunning place will exceed your expectations! The staff was amazing too. We went on the Quetzal birding experience and couldn't believe how amazingly special it was to see these stunning birds in person. Dinner and Breakfast were also amazing and I enjoyed trout from the property ponds in both my meals!
The only mention is the bathrooms have some wear with cracked and broken tile in the shower walls, but that didn't bother us in the least. It was a truly special place!

The Hotel facilities are absolutely beautiful and the service was incredible. Greivin, the manager was super helpful upon check in and also guided us on a really cool Quetzal watching tour.
The hotel offers a really nice breakfast in a beautiful dining hall, and also the interior design of the common areas is tastefully selected. We enjoyed a nice round of Billiard while having coffee and beers, and enjoying the cozy fire next to us. The staff really helps make your stay as pleasant as possible.
To reach the location I would suggest a 4x4 vehicle because the road is quite steep.
The rooms are beautiful but the bathroom could be improved.

The location was excellent for the views and the grounds of the property. Lots of hiking, fishing and bird watching. Very calming and peaceful atmosphere. The Breakfast was good but wish it had a little more variety. But for it being included it was great. The fruit was amazing as well as the coffee. The views, hiking and fly fishing from an amazing offsite location made it worth the stay.
I’m extremely disappointed in the lack of professionalism at this location. We were recommended this lodge by a few of the locals here in Costa Rica. We stayed for 3 nights 4 days for the start of our trip. And we were ready to leave after the first full day. The staff (besides the office people) Were incredibly rude and kept forgetting literally everything we asked for, which we didn’t ask for a lot.. We are super easy going people but I had to ask for milk 6 times for my coffee before my husband just went and grabbed it because the server was on their phone. We were the only ones in there… We asked for a boxed Breakfast for one morning, since we had a fly fishing tour scheduled for 7am in the morning and they said yes they could have it would be ready by 6:55am. We arrived at 6:59am the next morning and they “forgot” to make it and said it would be 15-20 minute wait if we really wanted it. We were upset since we had to leave and went without the breakfast we had ordered the night before. We asked if we could just get extra fruit to go and that took 10 minutes for just 2 bananas, a cookie and water. We Were late, and disappointed to only see a banana. Everything is extremely overpriced and they do not have a separate lunch menu, only the dinner menu. So we spent way more $$$ on lunch that we were not planning to. Rooms, and common areas were extremely cold for it being summer and we had to go to bed in a few layers and were still freezing. The little heater they provided didn’t help at all. The staff did not know how to communicate with the guests. We felt at multiple times that the staff would ignore us and not come to our table at all. It took us 25+ minutes to get our receipts for lunch and dinner because the staff would never come back. The price of the stay really was not worth it at all compared to other options in the area. I would look into somewhere else that is around this area or only stay for a day or two max.

Everything was great!! Amazing the area & the beautiful garden where Trogon Lodge is located. Topped from the whole staff! All are so kind & friendly! They take care about you from beginning of your arrival on, during your stay till your departure! Just perfekt service! The Quetzal-Tour with Mr. Quetzal Greivin was gorgeous! His deep love to Nature & his Quetzales catches everyone! It was an unforgetable Tour & we saw this beautiful bird with its long feathers several times! We also could admire a Quetzal in the garden of Trogon Lodge with him. Thanks a lot to all staff of Trogon Lodge that you made our holiday a special experience with you! Your friends from Germany

location was superb. Deep mountain valley next to a soothing river... can´t beat that. Rooms could be improved, but good overall. Better towels could also be a minor detail to improve.

The hotel and gardens are very beautiful. The restaurant is very good. Dinner and breakfast were very good. The only disappointment was the quetzal tour. The only thing we saw were the avocados which the quetzal eats.

The location, at the bottom of a valley, is sublime. A clear river runs next to it and many plants and flowers adorn the hotel grounds in a wonderful way. The arrangement of the rooms and the water features is beautiful. The bar and its decoration is another nice place, as is the restaurant.
Not much wrong with it, except that it is very cold in the restaurant in the evening and morning. No internet outside the bar and restaurant. Disadvantage or advantage?

Rooms did not have internet access, showers were old and they had no TV. Rooms are not comparable in quality to the rest of the hotel.

Beyond our expectation. A tranquil glorious setting with helpful friendly and knowledgable staff.
Grevin was a star.
Everything. The space the vegetation the room, the food, the service. You will not be disappointed.

The rooms are basic but have everything you need, even a heater, which is definitely necessary in this part of Costa Rica. The restaurant offers nice traditional and contemporary food, made with fresh produce. We liked the trail accessible from the hotel.
If you take the quetzal tour, make sure to bring extra warm clothes with you, as this is not a walk but you will be standing waiting for the birds to appear.
