The location is beside the lake.
The room carpet have stains it looked dirty. Bathtub curtain edges are frayed it is too worn out. The dinner buffet, no fish, only beef was served. No coffee or tea, only water for drinks. The breakfast buffet, no desserts or sweets nothing. Food lacks variety. All hotel staffs including cleaning staffs should wear facemask.

the location was great, right on the lake, with view from my window
i like its only 2 floors so not a tall building
windows large, great view
i found it odd, that i could not buy food at the restaurant, not even a coffee
breakfast nor dinner was included in my price but when i asked to buy something , i could not
in the morning , there was no coffee. the cafe opened at 11 am
they would not serve me a coffee, so i had to leave the hotel, and nice view to go to family mart to buy a coffee ?
ridiculous
just let me pay for dinner or breakfast or open the cafe earlier. the staff did not speak english and were a bit rude

This was my second time staying here and it did not disappoint. The view is stunning and access to the private beach is a real highlight. The room can comfortably accommodate 4 people. Makino is a great area to stay.

The staff at reception were welcoming and courteous. I'd never visited this part of Japan before so, travelling by train, I ended up arriving well before the official check-in time. A warmly welcoming lady at the Tourist Information at Makino Station gave me a map and explained the appox. 1km walk to the hotel. (She was there again next morning to say 'hello' then, when I went for the train to Kyoto, wave 'goodbye' to me ;o). As I had arrived early I had time for lunch in an (for me) improbaby located Indian restaurant: 'Raju', about 50 metres from the hotel - highly recommended. And there isn't much else around: a couple of beach-side cafes that close early and a convenience store (24 hours). I'd not been to this part of Lake Biwa before, so the evening walk along the shore line was memorable, the views magnificent.
I emphasise again, the staff at reception were welcoming. From occupancy in the car park I would guess that the hotel was at best a third full. So, why require a first-time - and, now, last-time - visitor to hang around for two hours before giving out the key at the official 15.00 check-in time? Whoever makes such decisions should add some flexibility to their undoubted 'customer service' ethos. The 'Grand Park Hotel' has probably seen better days. I doubt they'll return if the hotel management remains so bureaucratic.

Hotel provide shuttle to and from train station.
Distance far away from train station, lack of public transport to attractions around Biwako.

amazing view - bit of a gamble this one but paid off - breathtaking
tired rooms with poor facilities but worth it for the view - comfortable enough

The room had attractive wood paneling.
The breakfast which was supposed to be very good was far from it ! Eating time was 7:00 ~9:00, we went at 8:15 and they had run out of several things which weren't replaced so all the people after us had even less choice. I have had many, many breakfasts in Japanese hotel, this was very poor by comparison. The view, ( which you pay extra for ) is blocked by pine trees and under our window were tents, a rubbish pile and a parked truck, not the promised beautiful view of Biwako. I wrote an email to the hotel several days before our stay but they never bothered to answer even though Booking.com promises 24 hour answer service. The room was small and old with burnt lamp shades and scratched furniture, the windows don't open and there was nothing but a toothbrush in the way of amenities. I would not stay here again

The location is ideal--right on the lake. The room was comfortable with attractive wood paneling. We had a great view of the snowy mountains.
We arrived a little after 2:00 in the afternoon and had to wait until 3:00 to check in.

Q little old and lack of maintenance on the carpet

The hotel had a couple mentions on the responsibility towards the environment and therefore the effort to minimize the waste of resources with details such as the use of water and the replacement of bath amenities.

The staff were very kind and offered to send us to the station so that we could catch the community bus in time. I recommend dining at the restaurant because it offers a great view of Lake Biwako
We arrived in the evening and had to walk to the hotel, it was a 12 min walk but the roads were dimly-lit and there was almost no one else around.
