Lots of privacy and security, felt safe, host was very gracioous and responsive to my needs. location was very close to the Jeffrey Jump bus line to the loop. Great value. Appreciated being able to use the kitchen.
Nothing bothered me I really liked it.

Nothing.
The location. The state of the property from outside. The neighbourhood.
4.2
Not one thing.
First, the property is in an industrial area of south Chicago. The outside of the property was unkempt. The lawn was 10" high. There is junk in the yard. I texted 45 minutes prior to my arrival (at 3pm). I recieved a reply at about 3:40 stating check in is not until 5pm. Not a usual check in time. So I texted at 3:45 stating I had arrived. Waited out front for 10 mins, no reply. So, I went to the door where I was greeted by a rude young man. I told my story and asked if I could check in early. He said yes, as long as I gave a good review on google and on booking.com. I chuckled and said I would be happy to, but not until after my stay. He said no, either I give review now or I had to wait. But if I gave the review I could come in early. I said "Wow, very unethical. How about I just cancel." He went inside and a woman came to the porch. She introduced herself as curator. So I asked if she minded if I came in early. She reiterated that I had to give review first. So I asked her to please just cancel my reservation and I will drive back to Detroit. She said fine and she would refund me my money. At this point, the young man came out again in a violent manor, trying to intimidate me. I felt threatened and retreated to my vehicle. He followed. I thought I was going to have to defend myself. Don't stay here. I would not trust the neighborhood with a nice vehicle. Stay away. I have not recieved my refund as of yet. I was supposed to have my money by now.

Proximity to Chicago Midway Airport
Non-responsiveness of the host and you are left stranded on the road at 10pm in the night waiting for her to pick the call and hand off the property keys.

The Cleanness, location accessibility was Good.Staf was Good.
There was a thin black guy in my room.who was not in Good Attitude to me and others as well.

I spent 5 days here during spring break. I was so happy to stay here because this hostel is always clean, safe, quiet, and cozy. The owner, Jessie, was so friendly and nice. She always welcomes me with her beautiful smile. I arrived here pretty late night, but I could check in smoothly. This hostel equipped everything all you need. (hair dryer, towels, silverware, kitchen, and laundry machine) You do not need to bring your stuff. I just can't believe that I can stay here with cheap price. If you consider that where you have to stay in Chicago, I highly recommend here, "Happy Homes." I will stay again here if I visit Chicago again.
Plus) Mark was also friendly and nice. He most helped me stay well here.

It was trafficking
Promised other guest but they never showed. Promised all girls dormitory but it has a guy that lingered around. Also they didn't have proper locks for door. It was a key under a plant pit outside. Owner never showed up to introduce herself. I waited for an hour or so

Easy, fast, cheap, everyone was super friendly and quiet and helped navigate the city as it was my first time there
Honestly probably just the fact that there was no TV or window but I was literally only there to sleep for 4hrs then leave so I didn't need it anyway

friendly host - Jessie

This is my second time at Jessie's home, she's very nice and hospitable as always.
The house was warm and comfortable.
Near the metro station.
Highly recommend to anyone visiting Chicago.
Nothing to complain about.

I like the way the house is made and painted. The manager was welcoming and nice.

People are so nice here and the host is really welcoming. Our beds was on the third floor, but it was terribly cold at night. Had to buy a sweatshirt but it’s not a big deal :)
The kitchen is great, has everything , but not enough forks at all :( Common area is clean and comfortable, not noisy. Great experience. Thank you

it is Near the station
Nothing special

The bed
No heat, added extra blankets instead of turning on actual heat, whereas my room was in the back of the house, in the attic with my wall being the outside wall, without any actual heat during the night.
4.2
The beds and the room are really comfortable, the common bathroom was always clean during our stay. The price is great for the value. It’s a bit far from the city center (30 mins), but the metro station is close.
The only problem that there were ants in the kitchen (when we put food to the table)

The convenience, price, and friendliness of staff and fellow travelers made 5430 a Happy Home.

The host was really kind and was cooking pancakes the first day!

Jessie was incredibly friendly and offered her knowledge of Chicago.
It was really affordable and close to the red line station.
I was also able to store my baggage for the day before departing for the airport.
I had an absolute amazing time visiting Chicago.
I would stay here again as it was cheap and extremely easy to get into the City but the likelihood would be that I would try and stay more central so that I can experience Chicago by night.
You would hope that people staying here were like minded people. Unfortunately, somebody, or people decided that it was OK to cook at 2am and then again at 3.30am one Saturday. This was not acceptable especially as my room was off of the kitchen.
I had to ask for toilet paper for the bathroom, it ran out more than once. I couldn't understand why there wasn't a stash of it in the bathroom.
There was plenty of storage in my room, however, with the exception of hanging some clothes in the open wardrobe, everything else was full of other stuff. Some interesting stuff in the bedside drawer! Luckily, there was an extra bed and a desk that I used to keep some stuff on..
The decor is also quite dark. I understand that it is probably so that it doesn't show the dirt as much, but with curtains that don't open, it makes for a dark space.
I was advised not to use the trains after 2130, so never saw Chicago by night. I was always back at the accommodation by 2000. There were definitely some stories I could tell about my time in the redline 🤣 It was during my last day walking around the local area that I was made to feel uncomfortable. I was glad that this was the last day otherwise I would have always been looking over my shoulder.
There was also a slight issue in regard to communication and how I would get my deposit back, but this was sorted out quickly.
