Location, Listed building, Early Check-in.
Noisy uncomfortable bed, Bathroom not very clean, No room information provided e.g. Wi-fi code, etc. Bathroom tap not labelled hot/cold which meant we were reluctant to drink the water.
We paid extra for breakfast which was basic full english, no choice of bread for toast (white only) no refill offered for tea/coffee. We informed at booking that my wife is vegetarian expecting at least vegetarian sausages but was offered the basic full english without the bacon and sausages, which amounted to one fried egg on white bread toast and a portion of baked beans, he did knock £3 off the breakfast bill though.
The landlord wanted payment at check-in rather than check-out which made us feel that the money was his main interest not our comfort and stay.

Lovely spacious room, very comfortable bed, very quiet, lovely and clean and the staff were very polite and friendly and the breakfast was great I would definitely recommend this hotel and the food

We went to a gig at the piecehall in Halifax and booked to stay at the griffin as all the inner town hotels were full, but honestly it was so much better than stating in a generic hotel. The room was large, bed super comfortable, great en suite, the temperature of the room was perfect, I often dread staying in a chain hotel as they seem to get so hot and stuffy, and normally struggle to sleep, but this was perfect, and the staff team were really friendly and welcoming. It was really easy to get a taxi to and from the town centre and not expensive! If going to a gig in Halifax I would definitely recommend staying further out of town!
Complimentary Toiletries in the room

The Gent who owned the place had only just taken over but he was a pleasant chap who was helpful and attentive.
It looks like the menu is going to be very interesting as he has Indian food (his wife like mine Indian) to come online so someone will get a treat!
Nothing really it was clean, functional and very reasonable and served the purpose of our stay which was for a family party in Ripponden.

Very helpful let us check in early which was very handy as we had a wedding to go to close by. We had drinks in the bar later and the bar staff were very friendly. Our room was very clean and a nice comfy king size bed was great to sleep in. A great full English breakfast went down well to soak up the wedding drinks.

The bed was comfortable and the hosts were pleasant
We booked this before change of ownership as last year it was a lovely place to stay. We were not advised of this so hadn’t booked anywhere to eat. The landlady did try her best to accommodate us with food but it was all Indian food and very spicy which neither of us can eat. Also Karaoke night on the second night which was right under our bedroom and people were still talking in the yard under our bedroom window until the sun started coming up the next morning 😡

It was lovely and the new owners couldn't do enough for us. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Nothing really.
On the face of it the room was well presented however the bed was a rickety metal frame and squeaked when I moved through the night, didn't sleep at all. The LED light above the shower flashed light a strobe and was very annoying. No decaf coffee as an option. The access to the building was difficult with having to slip out the back door in the early morning and late evening. More of a room in someone's house than a hotel stay. No breakfast which I thought was disappointing and inconvenient although I could have overlooked this in the small print but didn't seem obvious.

We had a great stay. nice big room and good pub downstairs. owner is lovely. Quiet location and plenty of parking available. recommend family to stay here for our wedding near by.
Really liked that there was a fridge always a bonus
Would be 10 out of 10 if they started doing breakfast. And maybe another hour on checkout would be great

Lovely relaxed stay. Very reasonable price for a a stay in a lovely location.
The room was clean with everything that was required provided.
Nice friendly atmosphere and although the rooms are above a pub, there was no noise disturbance.
Definitely would stay again!
Would be better with breakfast 😀

Room was big and clean. The area is beautiful.
The reception was poor, it was hard to find the way in, no one answered the door and we had to telephone to be let in. The man who met us was pleasant but he didn't offer to help with luggage and I am a 64 year old woman with osteoporosis and I had a heavy bag to carry upstairs. My husband had to carry both our bags. The room was big and pleasant and warm, but the shower floor was very slippery. We were there for two nights and our tea bag supply was not replenished nor was the room cleaned or tidied after our first night. The room wasn't expensive but for the same price we could have had have had a room with breakfast and better service at a nearby hotel (I chose the Griffin because I remembered it as a warm, welcoming place from my youth). The carpet on the way to the exit was very dirty as there was no mat for people to use to wipe their feet when they came in. The exit was dangerous, there was no light and my son fell down the step on the path. Moreover, we stayed on Sunday the 18th December 2022, a very icy period, and the whole of the path and the block paved exit route was covered in black ice. I couldn't even stand still without slipping, and I had to resort to crawling across the paving on my hands and knees to reach a neighbouring garden lawn where I could then walk more safely on the grass. The exit route should have been gritted and salted to make it safe.

Great location for wedding at 'The Venue' mill down the road. It is about 30 min walk up a steep hill but there is pavement all the way and we took coats and boots! The room was very cosy and warm with a mini fridge and tea making facilities. The bed was comfortable and lovely clean bedding. We were allowed to check-in a little earlier (due to the timings of the wedding) and were given a key and code to access the building later on. Staff were very friendly on check-in.
Main negative was no offer of a cooked breakfast but we knew this in advance from reading the reviews so it wasn't a surprise. Yorkshire tea bags would have been good in the room (rather than unidentified round ones not in a sealed packet) and some biscuits are normally expected on a tea tray. The carpet was very stained in the corridor area but mainly because it was a light colour as it was clean. Everything else was very good.

Comfortable bed
Good location
Shower needs attention as was not draining in 2 rooms
No breakfast due to staff shortages
