Build a beautiful resort village on a favorite Hatteras Island location, and they will come. The Cottages at the Cape are the closest rental units to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in Buxton. They share a long border with the national park and are literally steps from the beachfront. Bring the bikes, because Buxton’s unique shops, restaurants, and lighthouse are all very close. Forget the 4WD vehicle - those in the know have discovered that the three jetties to the east of the cottages produce some of the best fishing, surfing, and swimming on this island. Walking to the south will take you to open beaches, the famed Cape Point, and if luck is on your side during the summer, a few sea turtle nests (be careful to stay outside the barriers). The interior has been professionally-decorated with comfortable and fun beach décor. You'll have access to an outside shower and a patio. An escape to the cape never looked so good as at Cottages at the Cape.

We love the views from this home and how close it is to the ocean. You can hear the ocean at night when you are sleeping, which we love. This home is well laid and comfortable. We spent many evenings and mornings on the screened in porch.

VACASA should have informed us the access (handicap access as well) was closed and has been for 9 months!

Sometimes it’s hard to find a good beach house for just 2 people. Very happy to have found these cottages in Buxton. The house is very well appointed. Kitchen has basic needs. We brought 2 of our favorite pans with us, but we could’ve made do without them. Ice maker in freezer was a big plus! Blender works well but was missing the inner part of the top. My hand worked fine!
Beds are comfortable. Screened porch was so nice! Could eat outside bug free!
There is really no downside to this house or location. The beach closure did not affect us and there were no issues with smell, so don’t let the reports/articles about it deter you.
Oh-if you have a pet be careful with the yard around the house- there are little prickly pear cacti all over the place. The large grassy space in the cut-de-sac is where you should take your fur baby. Even then, be prepared for beach burrs.

This is the 3rd stay in these homes and there will be more to come. If there is anything needed they are available and willing to help. Unfortunately, the beach was closed due to the old navy base leaving their piping behind and is leaking. We were aware of this.before coming so it was not a shock upon arrival. There are plenty of options available to go fishing and beaching though. This is a secure property and always feel at home here. Thank you for helping make another great vacation.

Closet door in master bedroom needs to be fixed and blind in other bedroom needs fixing

Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay. Location was perfect and you could hear the waves from the deck and master bedroom, even with windows closed. Beds are soft and supportive but the pillows go flat quick.
The one bad experience we had was the keypad on the front door stopped working on the second use. They do not supply a key. Battery was fine, what happened was the breaker for the door flipped. Apparently this is a common occurrence in these houses. Issue was resolved within an hour. Luckily it only happened once.

The house was nice and perfect location. All though the entry door needed to be repaired, overall great place!

Good location with easy walk to the beach.
The sound of the ocean from deck and back bedroom.
The accommodations not so good. Neds maintenance, no screens on windows, and most notable, no blankets or comforters.

This unit has views of the beach from one of the bedrooms and from the screened porch. The place is clean and spacious for a family of 4. The washer and dryer in the unit is a huge plus for long term stays. You also have access to a pool that is a 10-15 min. drive from this house.
This place is good value for the money. The downside is the apartment is very bare and the furnishing is a bit dated. There are areas with peeling paint from the ceiling. The window blinds also need to be replaced especially in the bedroom with the beach view since it is missing some pieces. The window blinds issue becomes a bit annoying at night since the light from the lighthouse flashes through the windows every 15-30 seconds.
Also not included in the listing but there is a charcoal grill near by the entrance.

The scenery outside the master bedroom window and the living room windows. Storage room on the ground floor and access to a large freezer are big pluses. The location is perfect.

A Wonderful Retreat
This house is within walking distance to the beach where some of the best fishing goes down and Buxton is a fine little beach village with shopping, tackle supplies and fun activities nearby.
The house is clean with plenty of windows for all round great views. We have already made reservations for next year and so look forward to returning. There are some maintenance issues that would make our stay so much more pleasant. All in all, we consider this neighborhood our favorite place to fish and escape the routines of home.

Great Visit in October
the house is so close to the beach and has a great view of lighthouse. The home has many things that you need for a party of 4, We even hosted a local couple for dinner. One thing missing was a cork screw.

Cobia #3B
Cobia #3B was everything you could need to be in Hatteras to go drum fishing in October. House was extremely clean when I arrived. Will be back.

Awesome location and view!
The Cobia duplex backs up to the former Cape Hatteras Lighthouse location, within a few steps of the Buxton Beach Access Ramp, and a wonderful view of the lighthouse. 2 bedrooms, each with a queen size bed, and 1.5 bathrooms. Washer and dryer are nice to have on hand in the house. There is a carport for 2 vehicles, and an outside faucet for washing the sand off. Plenty of closet space, and the screened porch is great for enjoying morning tea or coffee and evening libations. The kitchen is mostly stocked - stove with oven and pots and pans, dishwasher, full-size fridge, and toaster and toaster oven. Some utensils, dishes and glassware. Rental comes with linens - sheets and towels. Bring your own: spices, corkscrew, paper products, kitchen towel and cloth, etc.

Spacious with a short walk to the beach
I loved having a room for all our outside gear and kayaks. The home had plenty of room so we did not feel cramped. I had to contact the management office because their was no soap of any kind or other amenities one would expect to have on arrival. Annie was very helpful and we were able to pick up the dishwasher soap and other itmes items which appreciated. I also sent pictures of damage I found on arrival. It is not the fanciest place to stay and needs some maintenance but it was a perfect for us. I would stay here again.
