Our second time at this property! It is centrally located to so much of Acadia. Close to shopping and restaurants in Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, so many hiking options, right on Somes pond - it's perfect. The house was great for our family of 4.

We had a wonderful stay! Lots of room in the living and dining room area for us to gather as a family but plenty of bedrooms to spread out for some peace and quiet. Gorgeous view of the pond and lovely babbling brook running through the property!

We were looking for a convenient place to stay while touring Acadia and this cottage was everything we had hoped for. Only a few miles from hiking and biking trails as well as places for kayaking. Restaurants were also within 10-15 minutes in several directions. Would highly recommend it and would stay here again!

Beautiful location on somes pond. We arrived to a hot house and the manager came out with fans and a small window air conditioner was set up. The AC unit was amazing which kept the house comfortable the entire week stay running at night. Rent canoe 1/2 mile from house. Half price is at 5pm. Beehive trail get there early as it is person to person up the iron rungs (scary). Use the bus system and park at visitor center for the only free parking. Beautiful island and home.

We loved our stay at Somme's Pond cottage, it was such a great location and easy to get to all parts of the island from there. It also had such a lovely view and surrounding area. Everything about the house was as expected and very comfortable.

Great location to Bar Harbor and Acadia. Beautiful view of the pond.

We booked this wanting to stay in a quaint cabin in the woods and that’s exactly what this was! The kids loved exploring the creek and the house had everything we needed for a comfortable visit. Thank you for providing the setting for some amazing memories!

The property was exactly as advertised on VRBO. Great location just close enough to the amenities of Bar Harbor but a wonderfully quiet location in Mt. Desert. The sound of the flowing stream nearby is great to fall asleep to. Sunrise over the pond is spectacular.
The mamagement company is great to deal with. They are very responsive and thorough informing you about the check-in, check-out process. Would definitely recommend this property as a vacation rental.

The location and views were great. The property needs to be maintained. When we walked in there was a cob web going from the window to the refrigerator, about 12”. Not a good first impression. The bedrooms had cobwebs coming off the beds. They stress to read the guest book immediately but it is outdated. The directions for trash how to use the tv etc have old and new directions together, and directions for items that do not work like the fireplace. The cable and internet was out when we arrived. I contacted Susan who looked into the cable and there was an outage. The internet was never addressed and we were without internet the entire time. This was inconvenient for people who had to work remotely. Most of the outlets upstairs do not work. This would be a great rental if a little more effort was put into maintenance.

We selected this property in order to be on Mt. Desert Island in a quiet and scenic location. It met this criteria. The property has been owned by the same family since 1962, probably passed down a generation or two. It is gradually being renovated. Some areas, such as the combo first floor bathroom/laundry room were in pristine conditions. Other areas showed their age or were awkward to use. We were able to cope. The property manager responded quickly to help if we had questions. The home was lovely to return to after a day of hiking.

Perfect holiday home for a week with easy access to northeast, southwest and Acadia National park.

we've stayed in a myriad of places on MDI and this was one of our favorites. on a lake, canoe/kayak rental half mile down the road, for Long Pond. great location for getting to all parts of the island easily. house located back from the road, in beautiful mossy woods, "babbling brook" running past--a great sound "backdrop." very responsive rental agent. the slanted eaves in 2 of the 4 bedrooms might be a problem for tall guests. in general a very comfy house, with a long dining room table and plenty of views of the lake from the living/dining area (large--with long dining room table) and back deck.

This is my honest opinion about the property in general. We had a great time overall!
Pros:
Great location-babbling brook, pond and marshes
Plenty of towels and extra blankets
First floor bathroom was gorgeous!
Huge windows provide amazing views
Kitchen had utensils and cookware
Plates, bowls and mugs were adorable!
Carpeting upstairs was nice
House was fairly clean (cobwebs here and there)
The property managers were phenomenal and wonderfully helpful!! Gave us good recommendations on places to eat!
The 2 larger bedrooms had large comfortable beds!
Cons:
2nd floor small bedrooms and bathroom has a slated ceiling which is cute but hard on the head when you’re not used to it.
The two smaller bedroom beds were uncomfortable.
2nd floor shower has a VERY deep tub to step into making it awkward.
The driveway is primitive and tricky to turn around when there are 2 cars.
Large ants were found crawling around occasionally in the house.
The house is quaint but outdated in some ways. A little bit of updating would really make it more modern and more comfortable.
Bring your mosquito repellant. We did not use the grill because of the mosquitoes.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay! We appreciated the property managers quick and helpful text messages.

Although we had to cut our reservation short, the property was absolutely lovely. It is exactly what you would want for a family vacation. The sounds of the creek and the view of the marsh are spectacular. The house is comfortable, clean, and provides all the necessities. Susan was also extremely communicative and helpful during our stay.

Great location that gives easy access to both sides of Mount Desert Island as well as off-Island activities. The back deck overlooking the lake makes it all worth it. We watched a family of Osprey as the parents hunted for the young. One morning a couple of minks showed up in the stream, and a Barred owl seemed to make its home in the woods next to the driveway. House itself could use a little TLC, but based I’ll take that in trade for the location and the cost.

We had a fantastic stay at the Somes Pond cottage. The surroundings are truly beautiful. The pictures don’t do it justice! We definitely want to come back next time we’re in Acadia.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location was great, very accessible to dining and other activities in Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Southwest Harbor and Acadia NP. The cottage was comfortable, especially beds and living room furniture. Our stay was in the fall so the weather was very cool. Ample blankets were provided, although the bedrooms are too cold unless doors are left open. There is one furnace to heat the house and it is in the dining room. Both bathrooms had showers over tubs, which would be difficult for people with mobility issues. The upstairs shower is particularly challenging to use. The driveway is difficult to find and needs to be more clearly marked. This was the first time we had used this rental and we enjoyed it so much we hope to make it our preferred destination for viewing fall foliage. The property managers were excellent.

This home is amazing! This spacious 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home was everything we'd hoped for and more. Having been hikers to this island for many years (and generations), we've stayed in many locations and Somes Cottage tops them all. We were greeted with impeccable cleanliness. There are large windows facing the pond so you get amazing views from anywhere in the house. The babbling brook behind the house attracts all sorts of wildlife and, turkeys, herons, ducks, and geese visit the pond each day. The location is central to anything you may want to go and do - hiking, kayaking, dining out, shopping, etc. And there were many amenities included that we enjoyed - rocking chairs for reading, board games for rainy days, a washer/dryer on site, large comfy beds, a fully stocked kitchen, etc. Overall, a fantastic stay, and we can't wait to return!

We had a great stay at the Somes Pond Cottage. Traveled with my 1 and 4 year olds. Having extra bedrooms for the boys makes a big difference when we travel.
The house is an adorable cottage in the woods. The house is older and could use some updates however was overall clean, well stocked and exactly what we were looking for during our Acadia trip. The living space was bigger than we expected and the couch looked recently upgraded.
As for traveling with kids, we found this house reasonably safe for a 1 year old to wander around. We only had to move a few decorative items. There is a set of carpeted stairs inside. We brought a baby gate which was a little tricky to work with the stair configuration however it stayed up and deterred the 1 year old from climbing repeatedly. We brought a lock for some of the kitchen cabinets which was a big help. My 4 year old loved exploring the stream outside. We also were able to bring our dog along!
15 minute drive to Bar Harbor and 25 minute drive to Sand Beach and most of the Acadia hikes.

The location and setting of this house is amazing! So quiet, beautiful, and peaceful. Loved falling asleep to the sound of the babbling creek right outside the window. The house is very comfortable and it feels like a home, not just a rental. Grocery shopping and restaurants are about 10 minutes away which made it very convenient after spending active days hiking and sightseeing!

The property is as described in the listing. It is not new, but we found it very comfortable, maybe in part because we own a seasonal cottage in upstate NY, so we are familiar with the “quirks” that come with this type of property. Except for the kitchen, the living/common areas are larger than the pictures led us to believe so plenty of room to spread out. If there was any one thing we’d suggest as an improvement, for us it would be some loungy type outdoor seating for the deck, like maybe an Adirondack chair or two; and maybe a hammock by the brook 🙂. That said, a great stay and we’d book here again.

Great location on Mt Desert Island
This cottage was in a great location on the island to reach all the hiking and adorable small towns easily. It is quiet at the cottage with a great view of Somes Pond and there is a babbling brook to listen to when the windows are open. We would absolutely stay here again.

Wonderful location
Absolutely beautiful view from the porch. 30 min or less from anything we wanted to see in Acadia or around the island.
Convenient with grill, washer/dryer, dishwasher. Our family of 7 stayed comfortably.
Assuming the last folks that stayed didn't wash their dishes well, ended up washing everything before use but otherwise we have no complaints.

Great location, room for improvement
This property has a lot going for it. The location is great, on a beautiful lake, close to both sides of mdi, ideal in a lot of ways. It has a great deck and living area which we enjoyed every day.
The space however didn’t meet our expectations at the price we paid (Vrbo doesn’t allow us to say prices). It was not well cleaned when we arrived, dust, spider webs, and a very musty smell persisted all week. This building is definitely older, a cabin that was expanded with all the quirks that come with that- weird placement of switches (including on the counter by the sink, a bathroom light outside of the bathroom and a bedroom light hidden behind the open bedroom door??), the upstairs bathroom was very poorly laid out with a slanted roof (hard even for my short family), and a shower with a large (2’) step to get in. The kitchen had no space for dry food storage other than the limited counters which made for a challenge in cooking.
All these things are fine at a reasonable price. I would wholeheartedly give this 5 stars if it cost less. However, given the price our party expected more.

Very peaceful and beautiful
Looking through the sliding glass doors over sums Pond was amazing. At night time having a gas fired fireplace set a great mood to relax. Also dealing with the management of the property was easy and had quick response to any problems/needs that came up.

Quiet cabin tucked in the woods, but close to everything
The setting is beautiful, with views of sunrise on Somes Pond. Saw wildlife, including deer grazing near the house, and we heard loons and bullfrogs and the babbling brook right out back. The home is great for relaxing, and it had all the necessities. Central location to Bar Harbor, Acadia, and Northwest Harbor, and many scenic sea coast and lakeside locations and drives. The carriage roads are great, easy walks for nature lovers who like solitude.

Excellent location to visit Acadia and surrounding areas
This house was very clean and had everything we needed. Tons of room. There is a beautiful creek that runs by the house into the pond. The dinning room table is fabulous for playing games.

Secluded Get Away But Close to Arcadia and Bar Harbor
We visited October 11th to the 18th 2021. We had a wonderful time visiting Arcadia National Park and Bar Harbor. The weather was beautiful for most of the week, in the high 60’s and low 70’s. Our last two days were cloudy with rain. We used the last two days to fill our bellies with lobster, clams, and Bar-B-Que.
Check in was easy and we found the cabin clean and well supplied with kitchen utensils, dishes, and pots and pans. We enjoyed siting on the back deck looking out over Somes Pond.

A quiet delight!
Wonderful location. A little challenging to find . Amazing view and full of nooks and crannies where you can read a book or work on a puzzle. The stream is right near the house and amazing to hear as you drift off to sleep. The kitchen is small but well equipped. Hope to return soon!

Joyous Fall Stay
This cabin was exactly as presented in the VRBO listing. The cabin is beautifully located at the edge of Sommes Pond with a stream from a another pond/lake running beside the cabin. Is is a cabin in the woods and not a luxury vacation home. It is away from the hustle and bustle but located centrally to Bar Harbor, Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor. The cabin is quite functional with all modern appliances and the views from the living room and dining room table are breathtaking. It was a beautiful setting. The only recommendation would be to have a larger/more visible sign at the driveway which is somewhat hidden.. We arrived after dark and drove past the driveway twice before noticing the sign. We would definitely rent this cabin again on a subsequent visit to the area.

Somes Pond home
Beautiful setting and in a great location. We really enjoyed waking up to the Sun’s rays splashing across the pond from our bedroom window. Also having a babbling brook right outside the window was great.
Overall we liked the house… a few comments: The twin beds were uncomfortable for our teens. More pillows would have been nice as well. I had to change many lightbulbs (from the dim flourescent bulbs to brighter higher wattage bulbs. It was impossible to read at night. Dated furniture. The kitchen could also be better organized. Overall we really liked the setting and I think with some fairly simple upgrades this could be a great property.
We’ve been coming to Mt Desert for over 20 years and hands down love Somesville. What a great location. Thanks!

Scenic Spot
This was a great spot for our family vacation. Cottage was spacious and had everything we needed. The view of the pond is wonderful and the kids loved playing in the stream. Private location within minutes to Acadia hiking spots, farms, markets and restaurants. Highly recommend!

Beautiful site!
The house could not have been in a lovelier location. The only sounds we noticed were the babbling brook and some occasional animals. The furniture could use some updates, but it was exactly as advertised and we enjoyed our stay.
4.0 / 5.0
Central location/nature watching
Somes pond is a beautiful and central location. It seemed very quiet and less popular and was a nice contrast to the crowds of Acadia and Bar Harbor. Convenient 15-20 minute drive to all of our destinations. We all enjoyed watching the birds out the large picture windows and we loved bringing our dog to hike along with us. I deducted one star for the furniture-unfortunately the beds and living room furniture was old and uncomfortable. While we had an amazing trip, that upgrade would have made it that much more enjoyable.
5.0 / 5.0
Perfect
The house had everything we needed, was centrally located for sight seeing, fishing, enjoying nature. On our last night we were serenaded by a chorus of bullfrogs and a delightful show of fire flies over the pond
