This was our first time ever at a bed snd breakfast. I wasn't sure what to expect. I'd say Intimate would be a good word, and friendly. Laurie the owner welcomed us personally, and there were two other couples there. The morning communal breakfast gave us a taste of the local fruits and breads, all hand preparec. The room was comfortable and while there's no A/C, there was no need due to the local nighttime climate. It wasn't near the downtown district, but turned out to be a plus. If you visit Hilo, I highly recommend Old Hawaiian Bed and Breakfast! Thanks for great 2-day stay.

Amazing b and b with a lovely breakfast of local fruit and homemade baked goods

My husband and I stayed there for four nights and we had the most wonderful time there. Every morning was a different type of fresh cut fruit, mostly grown in the property and home bake goods. It was delicious! The room was small but comfortable and was exactly what we were looking for. The property and location was great too. It was a 10 minutes walk to rainbow falls and 5 minutes drive to downtown Hilo.

Thoughtful room decor. Very clean and functional. No TV so I caught up on my reading, that is a huge plus. The breakfast offerings of ample fruit and baked things were great. Wonderful and relaxing

Very clean and very well organized. Very quiet and peaceful. Breakfast is absolutely phenomenal with plenty of fresh fruits and variety of breads. Hosts are very friendly and helpful in providing recommendations. Would definitely go back.

We loved our stay here: Beautiful grounds, peaceful neighborhood location, comfortable large room, delicious healthy breakfast, friendly hosts. We'll stay here again when in Hilo.

The hosts are very friendly. The breakfast is great with local fruits and homemade breads. The grounds around the house are beautiful making breakfast on the porch very enjoyable.

Amazing b&b! Dae was a wonderful host. A tucked away home where you will be surrounded by nature and its sounds. Highly recommend. We will be back!

In a quiet, pretty residential neighborhood but not far from places to see and eat in town. It was such a nice sanctuary after driving in town traffic and loved falling asleep to the sound of frogs. Relaxing room and nice bathroom; no television, but was able to stream on our laptop with the wifi. Breakfasts on the lanai were lovely. Was introduced to some new tropical fruit, and Lory made two kinds of delicious baked goods each morning and sweetly offered to pack leftovers for us to take on our outings. Would absolutely stay here if in Hilo again!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is located well above Hilo in a very quiet neighborhood. We walked up the road 1/2 mile to see the Boiling Pots on the river and also admired the varied uses of hardened lava in people’s landscaping. The breakfast was sumptuous! Two kinds of homemade breads, a fresh smoothie, tropical fruit cup, yogurt and eggs. Welcoming and accommodating hosts. Next time we will opt for a larger room than Bamboo, which is small for 2 people.

This is our kind of BnB - simple but everything we need, quiet and natural surroundings. The lanai is shared between the three rooms and has a small fridge, microwave, and electric kettle. Breakfast featured fruits picked from the trees on the property.

Great host great breakfast fabulous view. Very nice room. Yes the driveway is intimidating! Between the twisty road and steep drive and unfamiliar rental car I would not feel comfortable going in and out at night for dinner after dark

Everything was Amazing !

Perfectly tranquil setting. Comfortable room with gorgeous view from window. The outdoor kitchen was convenient and the breakfast was amazing. The hostess gave take away bag for day trip and shared recipe of delicious monkey bread. Would highly recommend

The owner, Lory, was kind, courteous, a great baker and a wealth of knowledge about the island. Her B&B is in a great location to see the sites that Hilo has to offer. We had a wonderful experience!

We stayed in the smallest room, which was the only one available for our dates. Bathroom was tiny, but bedroom was fine, with a king bed. Absolutely everything you would need is there, or on the common porch, from guide book to umbrellas to insect repellent to beach towels…you get the idea. Common fridge on the porch, along with microwave, dishes, kettle for tea or hot cocoa.beautiful backyard stretching to the river, very peaceful. Breakfast consists of a fruit smoothie or fresh squeezed juice, a lot of fresh fruit, boiled egg, 2 types of delicious homemade bread and/or muffins, yougurt, coffee or tea. Our hostess- you only see her at breakfast unless you call her, is very pleasant and informative. Walking distance to Boiling Pots, and 2 minute drive to rainbow falls. Maybe 5 minutes to downtown Hilo.very enjoyable, relaxing stay. Would definitely stay again.

Very nice stay. Breakfast was excellent! Property was beautiful! Lieu and Hana were very friendly and helpful! Felt like we were family! Would love to stay again.

Lori, the owner and our host, was wonderful. A before breakfast walk to the Boiling Pots usually meant a lot of, "friendly good mornings" to and from the neighbors out with their dogs. Breakfasts on the lanai were not only delicious but included freshly baked banana bread and fruit from trees growing on the property. As a side note, the water is exceptional coming from a municipal source. Lori also spent whatever time we needed to answer questions and relay pertinent information about the area. A bit of a drive to downtown Hilo but quick and easy. Regarding the rooms, and we didn't consider this a downside, as it is easy to see in the photos on their website, but it should be noted the Bamboo Room was a bit compact for those used to the expansive nature of modern upscale accommodations. So if that is a problem, one of the other rooms may be a better choice. No hesitation, we would stay there again, in the Bamboo Room, and recommend it to anyone going to Hilo. Steve and Linda

Lovely place, close to airport, helpful and congenial hostess and very reasonably priced.

A lovely little B&B in Hilo in a nice residential neighborhood, and only 1/2 mile down the road from Boiling Pots. Our room was clean and comfortable and the owners were very welcoming. The homemade breakfast each morning was excellent, and Lorie was even kind enough to pack us a breakfast to go one morning when we left super early to go to the national park. Would stay again!

Perfect in every way. Host was helpful. Breakfast presentation was outstanding. Room was more than expected

Great property! Just know, there are a few animal noises but that’s to be expected for the area. We loved this place and the breakfast was great! Lory was a great host.

The host was awesome and so friendly! The view from the lanai where we had a delicious breakfast was beautiful and peaceful!

There was very poor lighting on the walk to the house. We had to use our cellphone flashlights to light our way. Our name was on the room door, but without a light we couldn't see it...There were no lights in the parking area at all, and no lights on the steps. It would have been nice to know there was no A/C as well. The ceiling fan was appreciated, but all of the textiles felt damp. Very nice breakfast, lovely staff and host. Great lanai and Spike (the cat) was very friendly.

The property owner is delightful and the property is lovely, even on a rainy day.

Lory greeted us when we arrived and showed us to our room which was lovely and bright. The property has fruit trees and you can walk back to a nice river view. Breakfast on the lanai was very good, fresh fruit and delicious baked goods, especially when Lory makes her healthy muffins and macnut banana bread. Easy drive to town.

We had a lovely stay at this B&B. The property is a beautiful setting, the presentation of breakfast was lovely, and we enjoyed conversation with the host. After some vigorous days of hiking, there was a nice tranquil place to relax on the lanai and enjoy the view.

Our first experience on B&B type stay. Located on an old charmed house with nice well-kept backyard. The highlight of our stay was the daily breakfast. A sumptuous breakfast with tropical fruits. Spiky the cat, was super friendly. Great Stay. Reminds me of my hometown - Malaysia

Delicious breakfast with many native fruits!

The Old Hawaiian B&B has a gorgeous backdrop. You’re close to Rainbow falls, and the backyard is a tropical oasis. Downtown Hilo is a close drive. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruits, smoothie, yogurt, boiled egg, and baked goods. Hospitality was great.
Only thing to note is that there’s no AC, so the rooms got quite humid, warm with a musty odor (even with the windows open and fans).
