Very pleasant hotel, although a little tired but the accommodation was fine and the staff friendly. The hotel was opposite a nightclub and Ann having stayed on Saturday night heard nothing. No exit problems from the nightclub although there was evidence of discarded food, chips and the like, but that did not spoil our stay. Would certainly go back again. Parking a little difficult as there were only eight spaces in the hotel car park. Plenty of public parking close by. However, if you are a blue badge holder and can find the spot outside the hotel, you can stay there all day and night and for as long as needed displaying your badge.

Great staff. Friendly and helpful

We stayed with friends and the only thing I can say as a negative was our 209 was very noisy and it went on until the 4am.
Apart from that the food was excellent the rooms were very good and clean.
Just unlucky to get a room in the Main Street.

The chef does one hell of a Massala omelette!!

Delightful hotel, close to shops and town centre. Really friendly staff. Clean room decent for a business tree.
2.5
Excellent central position for exploring Salisbury. Good breakfast. Rooms recently upgraded.

Nice place to stay, excellent location for Salisbury centre

Really well refurbished hotel, excellent breakfast and convenient parking
2.0
Generally a great hotel, best in town, though this time I had a tiny single room that was really too small. But usually the rooms are fine and I recommend.
2.5
A very reasonable choice, but with some limitations. There is limited parking on site, but I got a spot. The room was fine, but did not have a fridge. The bar was reasonable but had a limited selection of beers on tap.
2.5
An excellent value hotel, ideally situated for visiting Salisbury on foot. Very good breakfast. Parking could be an issue if booking in late.

Just a heads-up for travelers staying on a Friday or Saturday night: If your room faces the street there is a night club and bar across from the hotel. The club is extremely noisy and doesn't shut until about 2 or 3 am. It was impossible to sleep with the noise. The hotel was full and couldn't move us to a different room, nor were offered any form of compensation.
Our room was also very modern and lacked the character seen on website images... those are only for the "heritage" rooms.
2.5
The hotel was nice and quiet. The staff were helpful and friendly. Shops and restaurants were a very short walk away.
2.5
Parking difficult but staff were very helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant

The place is renovated and very clean.
It is a combination of old houses merged in one - it makes some kind of a maze and e.g., in our room (Nelson) the bathtub was in the room about 8'' above the bedroom.
There are 3 floors and no elevator. The stairs are narrow.
We stayed 2 days - we have used small shampoo tube when we arrived and were hoping to get a new one next day - but it did not happen. Frugality is good but to a limit.

Best hotel in town. I stay often. The staff try and succeed. Rooms mostly fine tho some a little cramped.

It's a little far from the station, but close to the city center.
The room was clean, had a bath with sufficient hot water, and was comfortable.
Staff told us that drinks at the bar on the first floor would be half price.

Nice place, friendly people for the most part. No washcloths which is very odd.
1.5
I chose the hotel because of the location, which is fairly central, and because it said it had free parking. It does not and I had to use a nearby multi storey at an added cost of about £20.
The decor is a little tired and shabby.
The breakfast was disappointing, with little choice for a buffet.
I would not recommend the hotel.

Nicely updated room. Friendly and helpful staff.

Nice location, room was a little small but did have A/C, breakfast staff where 1st class service and breakfast 10/10

City centre. Had to park on the street, as small car park behind was full and pay from 8am while we had breakfast.

Unfortunately this is one where I’m confused about the reviews! I thought the stay was ok, but certainly nothing better in terms of comfort than a popular chain hotel.
I upgraded my room, but still completely clueless as to what the upgrade was for. It certainly couldn’t have been for the bathroom as it was very dated, cramped and took 5 minutes to setup the nicer shower. It wasn’t for the bed or the pillows because they were far from comfortable. It wasn’t for the air-con which worked fine if you don’t mind it sounding like an old zanussi washing machine, and it couldn’t be for the luxurious space or views as that wasn’t there either.
I appreciate the building is original and historic, and the bar area is ‘quaint’ but surely comfort is key and this could certainly do with a refurb!
As per title, I would have scored it lower but the breakfast was excellent and this made the stay - and the cost - easier. Unfortunately it won’t entice me back.

Great to stop off at after long journey.

Our stay at the hotel was comfortable. Since the hotel has no lifts, it reserved our room on the ground floor, in the courtyard.
The only unfortunate thing was just one step that you had to go up to get to your room was a lot higher than normal steps and I found that if i didn’t have the door handle to grab on to , I would have struggled

The building was charming and the staff welcoming.

My second visit to the Merchant's House and again made to feel very welcome.
Particularly recommend the breakfast and the team that serve you.
Look forward to revisiting again.

The staff and facilities were excellent, as was the breakfast. The Hotel was well appointed, clean, well organised and had character. On the downside, parking is limited and awkward in manoeuvring; only about 8 or 9 usable spaces, then it’s off to an expensive public car park. There is a nightclub opposite so on our Friday and Saturday night stay, we were able to enjoy their clients’ revelry until the early hours from our front-facing room. The room itself was good, but lacked storage space for unpacking and, with no lift available, the 36 stairs and a confusing maze of corridors, steps and fire-doors made for a difficult arrival and departure with luggage. In the event of a fire, I’m not sure we’d find evacuation that easy. So, a very nice hotel with excellent staff but not sure we’d return for the negative aspects.

Drinks were very expensive

Yet another perfectly satisfactory stay. This remains the best hotel in Salisbury, even if some alternatives have more spectacular premises. This one is properly run.

Nice room, good breakfast. Very clean. Air conditioning was delightful during a heat wave. Easy walking around Salisbury.
5.0
The rooms are peaceful, beautifully organised and very clean.
The breakfast was exceptionally well cooked and the sourcing of food was explained.
The area is quiet but conveniently close to all the main attractions

It wasn’t the most luxurious hotel ever but it did offer a great pub with breakfast. Good people. Our room was a double on the second floor with exposed beams, high ceilings. Great feel. Kids were in a basic room on first. Felt very very plain. Super location for southern England road trip. Stonehenge… we flew falcons near Bath.

The room was large and comfortable. Our room faced a small courtyard so was very quiet, and had direct access to a small parking area.

The staff at the Merchant House were simply fantastic, great service and very friendly

The front facade is deceiving as it hides a delightful quaint country escape, run by a fantastic family and excellent staff. The room was recently updated, quite a good size, and very comfortable. Firm comfy mattress, welcome drink at the bar, walking distance to the heart of Salisbury with included “first come first served” parking made this a very delightful visit for me. I would stay here again if in the area.

Loved our stay! Everything we wanted to see was just a short walk away and the staff was so friendly. They were kind enough to let us leave our luggage while we toured Stonehenge. We would definitely stay there again!
