What’s nearby:
This home is a quick drive from multiple access points to the Oregon Dunes and ocean
beaches including the popular access just out South Jetty Road, and the city of Florence is five miles north. The charming Old Town section of the city
is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants.
You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The
coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean.
Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to
experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Bring your camera!
Paddle Siltcoos River between Siltcoos Lake and the Pacific Ocean. This slow-moving,
three-mile river is so ideal for paddlers that it’s a designated Canoe Trail.
Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are
offered daily.
Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road
where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force
the crabs out to the ocean.
Siltcoos Lake:
The largest lake on the central Oregon coast is also one of the region’s best fishing lakes, especially for warm water fish including largemouth bass.
It also is one of the few lakes in Oregon where you can keep a wild coho salmon in season.
Siltcoos Lake is a sprawling 3,164 acres located between Florence and Reedsport in the wonderful dune country of the central coastline.
Siltcoos is one of the most celebrated largemouth bass fisheries in Oregon and is among those mentioned in our article, Best Largemouth Bass Fishing in Western Oregon.
You’ll find tons of good bass cover all over the lake here, including fallen trees, drop-offs, points, islands and numerous coves and several longer creek arms. There also are some docks, especially where there are a fair number of private homes along the banks on the west and north sides of the lake, many clustered around the communities of Dunes City and North Beach.
Bass will often move up into the shallower water during the spring, when they spawn just off shore, and they can be aggressive then. They will stage a bit more off shore at other times.
Crappie also like to hang out around structure and may be found in shallower water during the spring. Sunken trees and pilings are good places to start.
Also, the lake is known to have good populations of less-pursued species including yellow perch, sunfish and bullhead catfish.
Trout are not the primary quarry for anglers here, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife does stock a modest number of rainbow trout here. Look for those plantings to take place in late winter or early spring (March and April are good times to check the stocking schedule linked below).
Native cutthroat trout also live in the lake and its tributary streams and may be kept as part of your daily trout limit.
The coho salmon fishery here opens in October and runs through December. Fishing for these fish is usually not productive until significant rainfall draws in these large fish, which most often happens in November.
There are a modest number of coho caught and kept here, but it’s a fairly unique opportunity. Boaters catch most of the adult coho, often by trolling wobbling lures in the creek channels the salmon use to return to their home streams.

House was very nice with lovely view. I did not realize it was so rural. It is actually in Dune City rather than Florence. Ice maker was frozen up. We worked on it and got some ice but frozen at bottom of container. Need more towels, gas for fire pit.

Loved staying here with our dogs. Daughter stayed at similar rental in other side of Florence so we could visit for breakfast or dinner. Will definitely rent again as perfect location for a dog friendly house. Next time though we need to make sure what lake we’re on. And both our parties stay on that end of town as phone service was challenging. Loved house though.

This was a very nice home with a nice view of the lake (albeit partially obstructed by trees, but still had a full line of sight down to the lake). It was perfect for sitting out on the deck and watching the sun go down. The foosball table was a hit and there was a lot of space for everyone to hang out and relax. Watching the deer in the front lawn was also an added bonus.

Place is beautiful and clean. Beautiful view. Easy hosts to work with and they respond quickly. Come to the beach every year. It was a fun time being up in the trees. Great access to the lake and ocean.
We enjoyed our stay and will be back.

It was exactly as listed. The place was very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. It was very well stocked. Would definitely rent again.

I rented this house for Memorial Day weekend with a group of adult friends. The house was very clean and a good size for 5 of us. Beautiful lake view from the deck, and lake access to Siltcoos or Woahink is really close. The fenced back yard was perfect for the two dogs that accompanied us. We had several issues with the home that were addressed immediately, and we really appreciated that. Bring your own paper coffee filters for a basket drip coffee maker.
Overall, it was a fantastic place for a weekend with friends and dogs on the lake.

The house was lovely and met all of our needs. Quiet area and beautiful view. Close enough to hwy 101 to get to all the places we wanted to go but far enough away we did hear road noise. A great stay for the family.

Our stay was over all a nice stay. Started off a little rocky.
House wasn’t cleaned yet made it a little stressful but after contacting the property management company they had a team out to clean and we’re able to get in the house in a couple of hours.
On the positive side the house is in a quiet neighborhood and the yard is large. It’s stocked pretty well and has everything you need.

Beautiful, clean home. Plenty of space for our family, but also had a cozy feel to it. The most comfortable mattresses we've had yet at a rental. Clean kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies for home-cooked meals. Great outdoor sitting area with a fire pit for ambiance. There was even a friendly neighborhood cat that stopped by for loves numerous times during our stay as well an adorable woodland rabbit in the area. Wi-Fi worked very well too, easily making up for spotty cell service.
You simply can't go wrong with this property for an amazing, memorable vacation or with Jim as a host. He's the best host we've ever had; very kind, helpful, and easy to communicate with. You can trust that any property with him as host will be well maintained, clean, with plenty of supplies, and any issues, should some arise, will be taken care of as he genuinely cares about the well-being of his guests.

This house was absolutely beautiful and came with everything you’d need for a nice weekend in Florence. It smelled and looked clean, had plenty of space and the kitchen was well stocked. We can’t wait for our next trip to Florence to stay at Jim’s beautiful home!

Great experience staying at this location! It was clean, spacious, pet-friendly and had plenty of entertainment if the weather wasn’t cooperating. Cell service was spotty but Wi-Fi worked great. Would stay here again.

The property was a very nice and updated home off the Lake. It felt very much like home. A little bit of a drive from Florence, but worth tranquility of the property. A hot tub was all that was missing, but the fire pit was nice for gathering. Highly recommend this location and will likely stay again in the future.

We enjoyed our stay at this VRBO outside of Florence, OR.
The house was extremely clean with a lovely far-off view of a lake.
Extremely quiet location which is a plus for us.
Our only problem was that we arrived after dark and had trouble finding the driveway!

Great view of the lake and house was very clean and cozy. Really liked the fenced backyard. We had a great time!
