Easy check-in/check-out. Staff was friendly, though we did get some incorrect info about what restaurants were open. Room has a bit of a musty/old smell, but otherwise clean. The blankets are a bit thin (but there were extras available), and the towels a bit scratchy. Great location, and lovely view of sunset colors!

Super quaint. Very old school hollywood. We loved it

A wonderful hotel, in a perfect location, with a friendly, helpful staff.

We loved our stay at Hill House. It is an older establishment so expect the rooms to be dated, but it was clean and comfortable which was most important to us. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. We would definitely recommend staying there.

Lovely place, sounds of the ocean, walk to downtown a favorite place of ours

Nice little inn. Very accommodating and clean. Had the feel of an older establishment. Loved the proximity to the little town. We walked everywhere.

This hotel needs a complete refurbishment. The room had peeling paint and wallpaper. The furniture was heavily worn. This hotel used to be beautiful and well maintained. I will not return.

Grounds need up keeping. Advertised as garden and ocean views but ocean views completely blocked off-deck is probably unsafe.
If you are a Murder She Wrote fan, this is the hotel that was in the series. Lots of pictures of “stars”in the lobby!

Only negative was noise of fans in bathroom.

Bar/restaurant wasn’t available, websites need to be updated. Pet fee seemed a bit ridiculous given the age of the hotel and the smell of bleach upon entry into the rooms was a bit aggressive.

Nice setting just a couple blocks from main downtown area of Mendocino and short walk to the ocean bluffs. The exterior looks charming but the interior is dated & tired. We had a pleasant stay and the price was very reasonable - just hope they keep it up better for future visits.

Very surprised to find last guest’s coffee still in the carafe!

Loved the wirlpool tub. Loved our spacious room.
No wifi in room... too far from server.
Check in clerk very friendly and informative.
Checkout clerk couldn't bother getting off of phone that was on speaker and clearly a personal call. All in all a great experience.

Disgusting musty room 126, run down place, no ocean view as advertised. Expensive and bad, never should be offered as a stay

Hill House provided a clean, quiet room, which is really all I needed. No communal aspect like a breakfast, but you cant have it all.

staff was friendly & accommidating- online it looked like rooms were only king beds- turns out, some double queens. The nice person@ desk was kind enough to change reservation to to a double queen instead of 2 king rooms- which is not clear online in making reservation.
Beds comfortable, rooms clean....some peeling wallpaper & a sconce light not working....but a pleasant stay & thankful for a last moment res availability + decent price

Property is old and rooms are dated but well taken care of. No microwave or refrigerator in rooms. Carpet should be changed.

The staff were very pleasant, I was surprised after reading the reviews. The hotel has a rich history of three shows and movies filmed in the area. Murder she wrote, Cujo and Karate Kid 3. The celebrities have signed pictures on the wall. The grounds could be better manicured but in all fairness there’s a drought. The charm of the rooms has tried to be preserved and it is walking distance to fantastic food in the town. A must see imho.

The staff was very friendly. However, the property is pretty old,e.g., there’s some black stuff coming out of water faucet…

Good size, clean room, nice view. Nothing fancy, but the location is perfect. Only downsize is that the walls are thin, so bring earplugs.

The hotel seems clean and understaffed. We stayed there four nights. If you count eco tourism it was good. The room was not cleaned or changed during the 4 days we were there. The Hotel coffee in the morning was not always there. The staff we did see was friendly and the location of the hotel is close to town but not in town. If you care about such things there is a cemetery right next door . The views from the room to the water it are great. The rooms were decorated very cute. The grounds are beautiful.

This is actually the Hill House I remember, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The only things I wish may have been different was a screen door with the slider, and when we checked out that we could enter the lobby and not have to go down to Main St for our cup of coffee. It's an older hotel, but we loved it

Nice property. Would have been nice to have breakfast available.

We enjoyed the actual property because it was clean, very convenient to Mendocino town center, and the rooms were lovely. I enjoyed the decor. The bathrooms were nice, but could use a little retouching. The lobby was quaint and had an antique house feel.
We had a poor first impression because one of the staff members, Kathy, was quite rude. Far from welcoming, I felt open animosity from her. We came there after a 4 hour drive and arrived an hour before check in. I acknowledged that we were early and inquired if our room was ready. She was gruff and was able to make me feel immediately unwelcome. I took my 9 year old with me and pretended that she hadn’t been rude, but then my daughter said, “Mommy, why was that woman so mean to us? You were so nice to her.” I am a person of color, so I wonder if that factored into it?
The other staff member who later checked us in, Alex, was hospitable and kind.
Kathy checked us out. I saw her interact politely with the couple ahead of us and then she was curt with me.
If she is the proprietor, I will be warning my friends and family away from this hotel. I am on a month-long road trip with my daughter and this was the first poor encounter I have had with hotel staff. I hope it is the last.

The front desk lady checking us in was so rude! We almost left told us she was not sure she had any rooms available and that she was not even sure the people coming in had reservations. meanwhile we were the only ones in the lobby at 5pm!!!! check in time was 3 pm. The property was very run down. The rooms were clean, but very outdated.

Comfortable, conveniently located. Very spacious. Rooms could use some updating and moderization. Lots of parking. Overall, very comfortable and quiet. Stayed 3 nights and would return again. Some grounds maintenance would tidy things up a bit.

We stayed 3 days. The place was clean, spacious and the staff very friendly and helpful. The property needs some TLC. It is a 5 minute walk from town. We would definitely stay there again.

This staff was extremely friendly and polite. Hotel itself is old and dilapidated. Some of the rooms are in good shape, but still have old issues. I wish I could use the word quaint but that’s not it anymore. The deluxe suite that I had reserved instantly gave my fiancé, an asthma attack. It smelled horrible and was full of mold. Unfortunately, the hotel clerk said you’re at the ocean and it’s a wet environment so basically deal with it it’s all this way. It is not. I stayed at mini hotels along the ocean and never had it stink so bad.
The grounds should have been kept more. The new corporate ownership needs to do some major renovation immediately I would give this place to stores just because of the staff and location.

The hotel is conviently located just off Hwy 1 in Mendocino. It is charming, but it's age is catching up with it. It is in dire need of repair and refurnishing. However it was clean. The webiste indicated that a restaurant is on site but alas it has been closed for years.
