Wondeful staff and very welcoming and comfortable

Stayed for one night. So much character in this building. Staff very pleasant and efficient. Excellent car parking and the room very comfortable. This is an old building with all the quirkiness of a 17th century Inn

Interesting hotel, great staff, breakfast disappointing - full English looked great but sausage was case hardened and bacon dried out.

Beautiful old building. Welcoming friendly staff. In need of upgrading could be such an amazing place to stay.

this hotel is very quiet and surprisingly modern for an old building.

The actual hotel looked lovely but our room was in a brick out building behind the car park. It smelled quite musty, the single beds were pretty small and the bathroom was outdated with a toilet seat that barely fitted or was fitted wrongly.

Advertised air-conditioning which was the whole point of me booking here, it doesn't have any and the room was like an oven. Bathroom door was stuck so you couldn't open or close it which was embarrassing while using it when sharing the room. Breakfast was awful, raw sausages, thick lumpy porridge and brown mouldy grapes was the choice, alot of people were complaining. And no welcome pack or what to do in event of fire or anything. Dreadful place

This hotel is very good, The only real problem was we were there for my Birthday,We went out with family arrived back at about 10pm so we could have a drink and the bar was closed on the Saturday evening. So we and friends who were also staying at hotel could not celebrate my birthday. On the Friday it was closed at about 10.15pm . We assumed being a hotel it would be open so nobody had to drink and drive. Other than this our stay was Okay.

Very lovely old hotel. Easy to find & check in simple.
On walking to our room at the back it was unkempt we were in like an outbuilding as were our friends.
Very nicely done rooms with a fan which was needed on all the time as it was very hot. There were quite a few cobwebs & spiders in both rooms. Our friend’s room had a broken part on the mixer tap which we reported on checking out.

Unfortunately the chef burnt his self so no breakfast on first day. Evening meal found very expensive and it was very well done some items burnt. Breakfast 7out of Ten. Staff friendly rooms ok for old building

Avoid you will pay for breakfast but lucky if you get anything edible cold hard eggs o er cooked bacon, we wait 30 mins for eggs and there was a lot waiting so gave up, tried to talk to staff waste of time poor food hygiene cross contamination.

Lovely character property.
On arrival for an afternoon tea, couldn't check in early but offered the tea before time which was good. Afternoon tea was mediocre. Didn't live upto the website picture, but ok. Room was good except for a mattress that dipped so felt like you were sleeping in a slope. Very quiet area and a decent sleep. Breakfast was in the dining room with a good English breakfast variety. Not sure if catered for vegetarian as didn't see any alternative option. No serving spoons were out ready so had to ask and then had to share amongst various foods which probably is against health and safety standards. Could have invested in a coffee machine with options as all tea and coffee were sathets and very 1970's! Not everyone likes Nescafé! Not enough fruit options at breakfast . Just boxed cereal or cooked food.
Probably wouldn't stay again but pleasant.

Very pleasant place to stay - visit was for a cycle event so a comfortable relaxing environment was much appreciated.
Room was clean and everything worked.
Staff friendly and helpful.

Excellent building, tastefully modernised. Only criticisms were there was no covered bike rack and the only two real ales were both Greene King.
There are excellent local breweries, Ampersand and Grain come to mind plus local real cider so surprised they didn't have these kind of options

We had a good stay there it's our 2nd time of visiting the hotel

Stayed for a week and we absolutely loved it! The hotel has great historical significance and maintains a lot of its OG character and charm. The service was excellent and personal. We also had English breakfast which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Lovely looking property from the outside unfortunately the inside is in need of some TLC. We had booked and paid for two nights but checked out after one night.its a shame with the right experienced staff and some money spent on the place could be fantastic venue.

Hotel built in 1655. So floors uneven, everything a little wonky, massive iron key to room, food not at all good, staff sweet, it’s near my family too I’ve stayed here a few times.

Service was great and very friendly. Breakfast was excellent. Few little issues - TV did not work and our window had been left open which would have been ok except for the fact that the staff had their smoking break outside under the window so our room had a really awful smell of smoke which was so bad that it was still there the next day and did spoil sleeping in the room. Shower needed a curtain as couldn't help soak the floor as one not in place. Room 8.

Our stay was in the coach house, not the main hotel. Conversations, television sounds and snores from adjacent rooms were overly intrusive, and general maintenance poor. The hotel overall was acceptable but I would not be staying in the annexe again!

Room carpet was dirty and stained and overall room not very clean. No net curtain on a ground floor room so was overlooked.
Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Old rooms, shower hardly worked and rationed breakfast

Staff were not great! When I arrived at 20:30 they had already closed the kitchen. fortunately a pub close to the hotel had a completely different attitude and turned his oven back on so that he could cook me some food
I had to listen to a heated argument between two members of staff during breakfast with plenty of swearing!
The room was in need of modernisation
The hotel has great potential as it is a beautiful building but they need the right staff who understand hospitality

The hotel dates back to 1655 and is beautiful! The food is excellent and the converted stables that i stayed in were very nice and old.
Breakfast is no earlier than 7:30am which is fine.

Beautiful grounds. Beautiful room. Bed wasn’t very comfortable & I didn’t fancy the menu either. But overall I did really like the hotel and the hotel room.
2.0 / 5.0
Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet.
The evening meal and breakfast were both very good.
My only criticism was that the mattress was starting to sag in the middle which meant my sleep was a bit less sound than it might have been.
