This is a small hotel but very clean and comfortable. Nice location next to the rail station with a 10 minute walk to the city centre. The price was reasonable and affordable. The owner was friendly and helpful.

receptionist was excellent. Explaine everything well.
I booked the hotel as near car rental also it had a restaurant.
However the restaurant is only opened lunchtime. I think this should have been made clear. There was no restaurant near the hotel, and arriving late pm you need this.

I had a 2 night stay here while I was visiting Ranville. Olivier was extremely helpful and the hotel was directly opposite the train station which was great. I would definitely stay here again.
4.3
This listing is an insult to expedia. It is directly across from the train station with lots of "bros" just hanging around. The hotel itself is in a narrow door, no first floor rooms, up at least one flight of steps, down a dark, narrow hallway, all the way with filthy and torn carpet. The bed was like sleeping on a board with a sheet. We paid for two nights, after hearing the guy next door cough all night, left and did not go back, got a different hotel. The town is dirty with very few places to eat and the hotel does not serve evening foods. DO NOT BOOK

Directly across from the train station. Cozy rooms.
No elevator, however only 1 floor.
4.3
Right across from train station. However beware of hours hotel receptionist is not there and hotel is locked. Unable to store my bag at reception when arrive before check in tim of 17:00. No bag storage at train station. Super inconvenient. Also found a bed bug and got bitten!!!
4.3
Cheap and nasty. No parking
4.3
Good service. Kind owners :)

The hotel is 2star and is. The rooms then are small but shower/toilet good. It is run by Oliver and his wife and he is very friendly and helpful.
This revue is at the beginning of July 23 and there is major road works going on to get to the hotel. However there is a tram service every 5mins to the town centre for 2e.
4.3
Super convenient near the station. Owner waited around for me to arrive, great service, exactly what I needed.
4.3
No on site parking, after certain times parking is free
Close to train and bus station
4.3
Old building. Right across from the train and bus so you hear the noise because you have to have window open due to no air conditioning. No elevator. I stayed 2 nights. Bed was comfortable. Car rental right there so easy to see the surroundings area
4.3
A great little 2 star hotel. Convenient, friendly owner/operator and had all the basics at a great price.
4.3
Not a hotel for a long stay. Fair enough for a one night pass through.
4.3
I would highly recommend this hotel. Railway station is opposite so great if you want to use the trains which will connect you Bayeux Paris etc. All the trams and buses pass here too so easy to get about Caen.
My room was spotless and cleaned every day could not fault it. The staff are friendly and very helpfull if you need any information just ask them.
The reason for my trip was to visit the D-Day sites and i found it an excellent base to expore from. A big thank you to the staff for a plesant stay.

The gentleman that arranged the check in and operated the restaurant was most friendly and engaging. Closest accommodation to train station. Quiet room. Comfortable room.
4.3
Couldn't be closer to train station which was important to us! Room is small with basics but clean! Staff are friendly and accommodating!

This is a cozy little hotel. I love the idea of mixing the restaurant and hotel like that.
I didn't have problems sleeping despite sleeping with an open window just next to train station and tramway station. But sensitive people might want to bring earplugs.
Neighborhood might not be for the faint heart, but its not that bad - and most cities in France feel that way to me anyways...

The bar area also serves as the lobby and check-in/check-out area. Coffee, tea, beer, wine, other drinks, sodas, juices and snacks are available daily from 7:30 a.m.-8:00 p.m; weekends from 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m..It was a very pleasant stay. I felt very comfortable. My room is cleaned everyday. The main train station, Gare de Caen is just across the hotel. There is an underground at backside of the train station that leads to the city center with many cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, the historic area, etc....Everything is within a walking distance.

Very nice staff, one of them speak english, they help me during my stay.

Very convenient location right across from train station

Spent one night at La Consigne. It's a small hotel directly across from the Caen railway station. There is a lot of renovation going on right now so it's a bit of a mess getting around. Room was clean and a bit sparse. But it was perfect for my needs... a quiet night near the station. Breakfast at 7 Euro was very good. If you go, you need to arrive before 9:30 PM to get the key before the small restaurant closes. WiFi was quite good. Plenty of hot water. No fridge/minibar. No elevator.

Our stay was very good. The room was spotless and quiet. Lovely lunch in the cafe and a nice breakfast to start the day.

It is a very nice hotel. Clean, comfortable as well as very good service. The hotel is very close to the Cean train station, but not that close to the city center.

Very convenient location. Staff was outstanding.

We arrived really late but were made very welcome and shown to an immaculate room.

Great little hotel to stop at between trains, staff were exceptionally helpful from early checking to directions. Close to the William the Conquer castle, very modern city as all the old buildings were destroyed during WW2

Nice hotel - great location. Close to Eiffel Tower and restaurants.

Opposite the Caen rail station and the central city tram stop. Attached restaurant and café good value. No lift.

We needed a place to stay for a few days while in the area. This was the perfect place. This hotel was right across the street from the train station. The rooms we small and there is no elevator. The main entrance is also the counter to the cafe, so they give you a side door key to access the stairs to the rooms if the cafe is closed. Lots of food choices within easy walking distance. We walked into town from here and also caught the train to Bayeux for our Normandy tour. One major issue we had were the locks to the rooms. You needed your room key to lock the door from both sides. We ended up leaving the key in the door, while we were in the room. Didn't want to be running around looking for the key to get out our room in an emergency.

Exit train station doors and look across the street - Voila, Hotel La Consigne! Perfect location for me and my daughter arriving late in the evening. Last thing you want to do is have to look for your hotel in a strange city at night. We notified the staff in advance that we were arriving late from Bordeaux due to the train strike in France and they kindly waited up for us to give us our keys. The next two mornings we enjoyed the simple but tasty continental breakfast provided by the hotel in the café downstairs. For only 7 euros you get orange juice, coffee, yogurt a croissant and baguette with butter and jam. Across the street at the station you can catch a tram into the city center (about 5 minutes) or you can walk 15-20 minutes. Tip: take the shortcut through the train station and go downstairs and through the tunnel to get to the other side. The best part about the Hotel La Consigne is by far the staff. Julian speaks English well and he went out of his way to help us plan our visit to the Caen Memorial and Mont St. Michel. He gave us tips and advice and even booked our taxi to the Brittany Ferries for us on our last day.

Right accross from the train station, the place is old and the rooms are small but it is clean and the staff are amazing, they helped us with a problem with the car rental and they took our luggage upstairs. Perfect for a one night stay, honestly i woudlnt stay more thanone night in Caen, pretty uggly and boring city
4.3
A quick, convenient 1-minute walk from the train station. There is not a lot else in the area, but a couple of restaurants were open late enough. The hotel itself is above a small cafe of the same name and they serve a small but perfectly sufficient cold continental breakfast there in the morning. Staff were unassuming, quiet and polite.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel La Consigne. The staff were pleasant & very helpful regarding information on events happening in the City of Caen. We were told of the Memorial for veterans everywhere & travelled by bus to visit this... It was amazing & would not have known about it. Also, we were in Caen to find the gravesite of a relative from World War II, but were unsure of how to get there. The hotel keepers suggested we rent a car... We were apprehensive of driving in France but it turned out to be a wonderful day.. As we found the gravesite & then travelled to Juno Beach as well. Just a great experience. Thank you

Located just in front of the SNCF station and very close to a large shopping and eating district this hotel is perfectly placed for the traveller and the visitor who wants to see the sights of Caen.

We spent four nights at this hotel, and were very pleased. The room was clean and comfortable. We had rented a car, and never had a problem finding parking on the street outside. The restaurant connected is nice, and you can get a good breakfast for an additional 7 euros, which we did a couple of times.

I stayed here for 3 nights in February 2013 and was very pleased with the quality of the hotel for the price. It was very clean when I arrived, there was enough heat in the room despite it being cold outside, the bed was comfortable, the shower was very good by European standards, and the bathroom was clean. Everything appeared new. The Internet connection worked well. It is located literally directly across the street from the train station, which was extremely convienent for day trips I took to other towns in the region, yet it was still only a 20 minute walk to the castle and a nice pedestrian area with lots of restaurants (or you could just hop on the tram which stops right outside the door as well). The staff were kind and kept my bag on the day I checked out so that I could go explore the city some more before catching my train.
