Amazing place. Really friendly staff. Great cocktails and food on offer. One of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. Would definitely recommend.
4.0
Have stayed here several times before. Think there are a few new staff, didn’t have the same friendly atmosphere as previous times.

All good

Lots of character; very good staff; a pity there is no lift service.
6.0
Staff did their best but there were large queues for the bar and staff struggled to find clean glasses and tables were not cleared. Breakfast was very average with tea and coffee running out and not replenished and staff not noticing, the same with milk and juices, cups and teaspoons. A classic case of owners trying to run a busy hotel with the minimum number of staff and little attention to detail.
8.0
Ideally located for walking to town or walking around the water meadows.
We received a free upgrade which was nice. Room was spacious and had a lovely view, however it was on the top floor of the old building which had no lift and involved a climb of three sets of steep stairs - good exercise😅.
Only criticism - shower mat mouldy.

Very disappointing stay I Would like to be refunded for room 6 that I stayed in. My room was very dark, lighting was inadequate. The curtains didn’t fit the window properly. The bedroom smelt of vomit my guests in the next door room agreed. I complained to the manager an excuse was made that I wanted two rooms together & that was why i had room 6; however, I hadn’t mentioned that this was a necessity when I made the booking! My room had no outlook and was next door to a maintenance room where men were coming through & past my window, please see attached pictures. I paid full price for this room if I had been shown this room before I made the booking, I would never have made the booking or insisted that I didn’t have this room. I arrived & had to get ready for a wedding & paid extra £20 to get my room early to change into @ midday I asked at this time for my room to be moved due to the above . I couldn’t even see with the lighting in the room to put my make up on, staff moved my room but the key didn’t open the new room door my son alerted reception but i was left standing for ages waiting outside the door for someone to come and help me, I was running out of time so I went back to the original room to get changed & put my make up on in my childrens room for a wedding. it’s not worth paying for an early check-in for 12pm arrival as other guests got it f. I would Like a full refund the situation put a great deal of stress on my stay, which should have been an enjoyable

The view from the hotel was lovely. Staff friendly. Good entertainment on the Sunday evening which was a nice surprise.

Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting, friendly staff, delicious breakfast and super comfy room!

The hotel is in a lovely position overlooking a river and fields with balcony seating, perfect for the time we stayed there as we had lovely sunny weather.
The only criticism was that the fan in the bathroom wasn’t working and the hairdryer also stopped working however these have been reported and were being looked into.
We paid extra for breakfast which we enjoyed but the coffee wasn’t very nice at all and is served out of metal jugs. A coffee machine would be better which most hotels now use when it is a self-service set up.

Pleasant, historical hotel, Very interesting. Sited on the meadows it is a wildlife haven.

The only issue I have is the lack of bedside table, but in such a small room one would not be practical.

Booked my room 6 weeks ago and stated that we needed a double room in the main hotel facing the pond. However, we were allocated a room in the annex building. A member of staff at the reception said they did not see the request and apologised. However, we were told all the double rooms had already been allocated. The room in the annex had the following problems: no phone connection to the reception desk to report any issues etc; very poor wi-fi reception - kept cutting off; hair dryer not working; weak shower flow with difficult temperature controls; hair dryer wasn’t working; no bath mat; very noisy location- sleep disturbed at 5.30am and 6.30am with loud noises made by delivery vans; insufficient electrical sockets, with some sockets needing a round pin plug - unable to charge iPhones. Very disappointing! However, staff very polite, friendly and helpful.

The hotel is in a beautiful location with idyllic surroundings and has wonderful staff. My only recommendation would be the regarding the decor which is a little dated, especially in the bedrooms. Highly recommended.

The room overlooked the outdoor terrace which was a little noisy

The hotel location is fantastic, walking trail is on the door step, it’s so beautiful and peaceful with full of buttercups in the meadowlands. Wonderful National Trust Houses and Gardens like Melford Hall, Lavenham Guildhall and Ickworth all in 30 minutes driving.
Besides the sound proof is weak, room #8 is good size for a single occupancy, although I paid for a double room.
Staffs are very friendly and helpful.

Decent hotel, however I’ve stayed in better places in London for the amount of money payed.

Kettle was filthy tv not working or internet. One staff on for food for breakfast it was a shocker
8.0
Comfy and spacious room even though it was on the 3rd floor, with no lift. Good exercise for one with mobility issues! Lovely views of the meadows from the room, easy to bird watch. Swan nesting nearby was an added attraction.
An improvement could be made to the continental breakfast, not up to Premier Inn standards
8.0
The staff were attentive and friendly, room cleaning and restocking was on demand and was efficiently done when we wanted it. The room was at the top of 3 floors, with no lift and a narrow stairs. This would have been a problem if we had been disadvantaged in any way (or just much baggage). There was a late night fire alarm incident where all residents gathered in the reception. The staff did not really take charge and were not sure about how to cancel the (false) alarm and had to call someone for “codes”. The evacuation process could have been serious in a real emergency. Apart from this, it was a very nice stay in Suffolk, the hotel was very convenient for exploring the area.

Not many choices in Sudbury. The Mill is fine but basically average.

Lots of character, enjoyed the bar and location. Breakfast could have been better.

Nice place to stay for a stopover. That’s all I can comment on as that’s what we did. Paid for a king room which was on top floor. Had a great view of the moors surrounding and the nesting swan. Lovely and warm. On site restaurant was great. Food was ace. Water wheel still turning in the bar. Would stay again if I was in the area.

Friendly and helpful staff, picturesque setting, first class food

Pretty disappointed, having stayed at the mill a few years ago , it sadly is not as nice as it was . Had booked a superior room for the view of the meadow and ponds , however the building had scaffolding all around ( which we were not made aware of when we booked ) and our windows were covered by scaffolding . The bathroom tap was very old and dirty . The restaurant only served the same menu as the bar which was disappointing and breakfast was pretty poor as it had run out of a lot of the food bu the time we entered at 9.30 ( it was from 8am-10am) there were other people that complained .

Property was exactly as described. Breakfast was tasty with plenty of cooked options.
We had dinner in the restaurant on the first night and there was plenty to choose from and it was well presented and cooked.
8.0
Interesting location, alongside pool/river. Although the turn off from the main road can be tricky if there is traffic. The facilities are not luxurious but they are just fine -- basic but comfortable room, good dining facilities -- huge breakfast, two good evening meals. And the staff, from front desk to wait staff, are anxious to please.
And an easy, if a bit hazardous, walk to central Sudbury, Gainsborough Museum, etc.
Definitely would recommend if staying in Sudbury.

We has a nice stay at The Mill. Reception and breakfaat staff were very friendly. Easy on site parking. The room was very comfortable and attractive. The only small issue was the shower. Plenty of hot water but very weak hand held showerhead on a wall bracket. Other than that, we will stay again as we have in the past.
3.0
A lift would have been advantageous as my 80 year old mother in law was on the top floor, and had to navigate 3 levels
4.0
Great views across the water meadow and opportunity for pleasant country walks.
Town also nearby with shops and restaurants.
Unfortunately the hotel did not make up the room unless specifically asked.

It was our nieces wedding, at the start complete mess up with my booking, everything was excellent apart from there was no lifts and we were on the 3rd floor in the end I didn’t want to even go up to my room I felt sorry for other family members with children/prams etc

We only had an overnight stay but staff very friendly and helpful, the property by definition is old and so I guess difficult to keep. The room was clean and comfortable and we had a lovely stay. Would definitely recommend it as a good value place to stay.

Spent two nights, booking a twin room to get a river view.
Pleasant hotel, with friendly staff and reasonable, good-value food. Decor slightly tired in places but excellent bar area overlooking the water wheel.double room

the hotel was good, little out of date, the shower was very old style and dripping water

Long delays in restaurant well over 30 minutes for each course to arrive took over 2 hours to have dinner
