The scenery was magnificent. The location was perfect and the community was very pleasant. Beautiful hidden gem.

Amazing place in Castara. Our room was directly on the beach. Amazing facilities and a wonderful host. Wished we could have stayed longer and will definitely return. This hotel and the host were the best part of our week in Tobago.

My husband and I, arrived on Saturday night 17/6/2023 and stay two nights. We had a wonderful time at this place and enjoy everything that is there to enjoy and engage. We would also like to state that Owner of this place add to the wonderful experiences

Our spacious clean room had air conditioning, but no glass on the windows. Wooden slats and heavy drapes. You can listen to the surf all night long. The view from the decks (we had 2) was amazing. The sea is so beautiful. We were right on the beach and close to the restaurants. Their is no shuttle, but taxis are available at the airport. ($55 US) Once you arrive, the hotel owner, Ansel, will help arrange transportation and tours. One of many highlights was eating fresh fish for breakfast that Ansel had caught the night before.

A great room in a small block on the beach. Well located for everything you need in the village and run by a charming and helpful host! A wonderful experience in a quiet unspoiled vilage

Beautiful views. Clean. Great service, friendly! Convenient stores and dining which was amazing (D'Almond Tree Restaurant)! Bring some big spray tho!

Our balcony had a view of the beach. We could snorkel from the beach, and we were able to hire a young man to take us fishing and snorkeling at nearby beaches. It was a very relaxing stay. Good breakfasts! ATM didn’t accept our cards, so bring plenty of local cash.

Right on the beach, exactly where you would want to wake up in Castara. More of a quiet part of the beach, but the busy market and restaurants are in a few minutes walking distance.
Amazing staff, we really felt like home.

The perfect getaway on the beachfront, lovely sunsets and hummingbirds. Lovely accommodation, courteous service and tasty buffet breakfast...continue the good service.

The hotel is right on the beach. We were there during low season so very few actual restaurants were open. There is a small grocery across the beach, so you can purchase essentials. There is also lots of very fresh and wonderful street food.
We had two rooms that connect. I think they were the Whale and Crows Nest. Crows nest is a tiny room with a double bed and an outdoor kitchen with an amazing view. The Whale was very large and had two double beds and an inside kitchen. My only complaint was their was barely silverware for 3 people.
The bay was amazing! The water is clear and warm. The waves were extremely gentle.
The drive to Castara is not for the amateurs. The road is very windy and you drive on the left hand side. We thought it was worth it. Castara is beautiful, quiet, and the people are very friendly.

What is shown on Expedia is not what you get. The actual property that was booked isn’t on the beach itself but rather a short walk to the beach. The ocean view is obscured by trees and buildings. There was no soap or shampoo in the suite we booked had to go to the lodge on the beach. The breakfast was great though.

As a family of 5 it is often hard to find suitable accommodation but this was perfect. Two linked rooms (one upstairs from the other) both with their own terraces and good, quiet air conditioning. Kettles, ovens, toasters, microwaves, fridges and hobs all available. Ancle and Tracey were friendly, welcoming and helpful hosts. Castara is beautiful. Dont miss swimming with rays from the beach at little bay and helping the fishermen bring in the catch on big bay. Watch hummingbirds from the deck and snorkel from the beach. Really relaxing and non touristy. Thanks for having us!

Beautiful beach. Clear water. Wonderful and quaint area nearby. Nearby store for essentials and many other shops. A very unique place and area.

Great location steps away from beach. Rays swimming can be viewed from porch. Close to market and fish hut where you can choose your fish and they clean it for you on the spot.
Great snorkeling sites. Snorkeling trip with BBQ lunch on the beach was awesome.
All things considered my girlfriend and I had a wonderful holiday.
Thank you to Ancle George and staff.

A bad start due to having to spend 4 1/2 hours outside the airport, which closed soon after we arrived at 0120, as the pick up didn't arrive, was compounded by disappointment at the room we were allocated. We don't recall seeing photos of the budget double room on the Expedia site but it was dark and depressing and we would certainly not have chosen that for our two week stay. However the misunderstanding about the pick up was soon cleared up and we upgraded to a double room on the floor above, at extra cost, which was bright and spacious, with a terrace giving a view of the sea and beach. Tracey, who we think is the Assistant Manager, was very helpful and did everything she could to help us to settle in. Breakfast lacked variety though the one or two local dishes included were tasty. Perhaps it would be more accurate to describe it as a 'simple breakfast' rather than a 'continental breakfast'. We met the Manager Ancle on about the third day and felt he was not very communicative. However as time passed we understood that this was just the general laid back way of the local people and no offence is intended. In fact Ancle kindly went out of his way to obtain a jar of mango sauce for us that we liked, at his expense. The hotel itself is well located on the beach and within walking distance of cafes and shops - although they are not always open during low season. Generally a nice hotel but could be improved with a little hospitality training to meet international standards.

Everything about the Naturalist--from the lodging, to the staff, to the location--is perfect. Theres not a lot to do, per se, but thats exactly what we wanted.

The Naturalist is perfect in every way. It's easy to find, clean, comfortable, peaceful, and the views are spectacular. Ancle George and his staff are friendly and helpful, and Castara is a wonderful place to stay. I will be recommending this place to my family and friends, and if you are considering a trip to Tobago, forget about any other resorts - go with the Naturalist.

Upon entering the power was off, we dropped off our bags and left to find food in walking distance to the resort. We returned to an air conditioned room, to find two cold beers and freshly cut watermelon :). Local eateries and two grocery stores nearby within walking distance. The beach was breathtaking. The bed was uncomfortable but it was perfect for my birthday getaway with my fiancé for some R & R and to lay on the beach and soak up some sun.

Ansell, Tracy and company are wonderful hosts and their hotel has a marvellous location right at the side of the beach. Castara is perfect for those wanting a more authentic Tobago "lime" than can be obtained in a resort hotel.

It hasn't even been a week since I left The Naturalist, and I am already planning when I can go back. I travelled solo for 2 weeks in Tobago, and Castara was where I spent my last 4 nights. The Naturalist wasn't even my original choice, but when I got there, was I ever happy my first choice fell through! My stay was amazing! Literally ON THE BEACH, this accommodation boasts a wide variety of room/suite styles. I stayed in the Tuna room, which has a forest view from a great veranda where I was entertained by all sorts of beautiful birds, my 'alarm clock' rooster buddies, and the lulling sound of the ocean. It's a smaller room, but perfect for a single traveller. It was so nice to have the privacy I wanted, yet the opportunity to mingle with others as I wished over a great light and tasty breakfast available each morning with local treats. Ancle the owner, Tracey, and the entire team are a great group of friendly, laid back, and helpful people who clearly love it there. The vibe is unobtrusive and relaxed, just as Castara as a whole is. If you are high maintenance, this is not the place for you! But, if you are looking to unwind, find some balance and just truly soak in the beauty and authenticity of Castara, this is a perfect home base to do it from. This is one of the few accommodations that doesn't require a good hike up and down the lovely, yet very steep, roads in the village. If you want beach, this is the place to be. I had everything I needed, and cant wait to get back
