The dinner alone gets a lot of points. Easily some of the best food I have ever had at a ryokan. The Men’s Onsen is a bit small outdoors. It was difficult to get my large western body (5’10”, 185lb) in the outdoor pool. The indoor pool was nice. The biggest problem is the old wooden floors. Upstairs neighbors had kids and I got virtually no rest. The tranquil atmosphere of autumn in the mountains of Japan was disturbed by little giants trampling overhead. Overall, great place, but I hope you get lucky with who stays above you.

Very nice location (in the hills, near the bus stop, 10 mins from Ashi lake). Easy check-in (although English is nearly non-existent). Good structure, rooms are nice and wide, traditional futon beds, hot fans and air conditioning. Working at the garden since like a year. Did not found any onsen/public bath. A little overpriced for what it has to offer.

The hotel is nice however the access to its remote location is terrible during winter or early spring when snowing. The only public bus to this Ryokan stopped operating. We had to take very expensive taxi (>8000yen) to reach this place. getting out of it on next day is even harder as there is no taxi coming to this Ryokan and the hotel staff asked us to walk 40mins to the nearest train station! It was still snowing that time and we had 3 kids with us! It is not possible for us to walk this far with big luggage’s as well. Luckily we finally able to get he Hotel staff to send us to the train station in his own car. Really thanks to the 2 young men tnb he didn’t front desk. front desk can’t speakers mich English as well...

This was my first time staying at an onsen ryokan, but it was much better than expected. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional. The room was roomier than what I imagined, but I guess I was staying at a place meant for two people by myself. Dinner was excellent, and the breakfast buffet was great too. Dinner was fully Japanese while the breakfast was continental with a heavy Japanese slant. The onsens were great. I'd recommend using the bath in the early afternoon or the early morning before people start arriving if you are not comfortable with stares. The outside bath was a bit small but charming. The only bad thing I can say about this place was the fact that it's a bit old, but that's to be expected from some place that's more than 300 years old. It was very clean though. Will stay again, next time with another person to play table tennis with.
