lovely period building. gorgeous decor.
We booked for Monday night only to arrive and told the bar and cafe was closed on a Monday. also all the staff were leaving once we arrived and we were handed the front door keys to let ourselves in and out. it was very strange to be there all on our own and no one else there. plus if I had known the bar and cafe were not open, I would not of booked for the Monday . maybe advise the customer of this as they book.. Very trusting I must say. also we were told if we needed milk to go downstairs and behind the bar into the fridges there and help ourself. 😳😳. dinner party story to be told for many a year to come. 😃

The Stables is a beautiful guesthouse with gorgeous boutique interior and so central to everything

Breakfast was exceptional and there was a lot of it. Beautifully cooked and presented. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The decor is very elegant and the location is perfect being on Birr’s smartest street.
Nothing.

the location is very central and there’s a gorgeous shop and cafe on the ground floor.
the shower wasn’t clean and there was a half empty shower gel bottle in the shower used by a previous guest. there was also the wrapper of a biscuit packet down beside the bed and the coffee machine didn’t work. the shower was electric with little power. the mattress could also do with being upgraded.

We loved the peaceful stay in a boutique style, yet intimate location. Room was a comfortable size will beautiful high ceilings and old features. The breakfast was so tasty, great attention to detail and the staff were attentive and friendly.
That we didnt book in for two nights!

lovely property, completely dog friendly & very comfortable

Excellent breakfast, the porridge and cooked breakfast on offer was exceptionally good, and the atmosphere of the dining room was calm and relaxed. The ambience and Georgian architecture was a delightful contrast to the usual impersonal modern hotel, and we enjoyed browsing in the emporium. The electrics in the bedroom were quaint and the TV was too small for the suite of the room, but these are minor issues.
TV needed updating as mentioned.

This was a fantastic stay. We used to stay in a nearby hotel but The Stables is by far a better, nicer, quieter accommodation and will forever be our default place to stay when we come to Birr. It is wonderful. Great staff, great rooms, comfy beds, and wonderful breakfasts.

Lovely room and great food! And dog friendly.

Lovely spacious room; it was absolutely spotless. We arrived late and emailed Caroline to say that we’d be late - she replied straight away and was so accommodating. Great location - walking distance to pubs and restaurants and such value for money. Brilliant breakfast and the girl who served us was really friendly and helpful. Very impressed with our stay!
Wouldn’t change anything.

The property is a large building in a Georgian style tree lined avenue and is very well furnished with lots of interesting decorations and fixtures. The owner runs a very popular bistro style cafe on the ground floor and outside in the old stable yard, the food and coffee was excellent and I have never had a better fruit and granola bowl anywhere! There is also an emporium shop in the old stables building to the rear which sells upmarket house decorations, pictures, light fittings and ladies clothes.
Only a very minor comment in that there are a limited numbers of available socket outlets in the bedrooms, largely because the bedrooms are so well equipped with Sky TV, kettle, hairdryer, etc so charging phones can involve detective work to find a spare one!
