Great little cabin within four blocks of historic downtown Fort Payne and a short drive to Mentone, Little River Canyon and Desoto Falls. The owners were very responsive. We’ll visit again.

First off, we are experienced travelers with a history of staying at inns and VRBOs, so we know what is possible. Second, if you take photos, and provide a description, it should match the property. The photos make it look like it's in the country. It's not. It's on a town street, and while it's a quiet town, it's not really a place for dogs. But the real problems are below: 1. There was a dead cockroach on the steps. It was really obvious. Had someone actually cleaned the house, it would have been removed. 2. The range did not work. We bring our own food. It was impossible to cook. The solution by the owner was to bring a hotplate...I've had hotplates. They don't get hot enough, and they are pretty rickety, and there was very (as in, almost no) counter space. You can't put an electric hotplate on an electric stovetop -- the hotplate requires a solid surface. If the hotplate had been placed on the counter, there would have been no room for prep work. 3. There was a used bar of soap in the shower. In this Age of the Virus, that's just not acceptable. 4. The owner and reservation clerk are not that communicative. Hours would go by when I would ask a question. If you own a property, you have to stay on top of this -- we've rented out property before, and if someone had a complaint, we jumped on it right away. 5. The owner sent her cleaner to the house to harass us. She yelled her head off, performed an Emmy-quality drama queen show, and tried to come in against our wishes. I had told the owner to NOT provide a hotplate (neither desired nor required, because of above). So when the cleaner said "I have to come in to plug in the hotplate", and I said "you are interfering with our quiet enjoyment" she threatened to call the police. That could have been an idle threat, but after that, how can you trust that something wouldn't happen to our cars while we were asleep, or that she would try to come in if we weren't there? It was just creepy, and the owner / reservationist failed to handle the situation as an adult owner of a property. TO RECAP: NOT AS ADVERTISED, NON-COMMUNICATIVE OWNER, NOT THAT CLEAN, HARASSMENT INSTEAD OF APOLOGIES AND REPLACE THE STOVE. The people who have written good reviews probably didn't try to cook -- whatever. Oh, and the door was open when we got there -- possibly a security issue. Buyer BEWARE. You will not be happy at this location. There are many other places. Highly recommend somewhere else.
