About this house rental
Centrally located oasis to relax and rejuvenate.
Guatemala has a very imaginative spirit and we tried out new ideas with this house, such as putting the main living area "up top" so that you could enjoy more light and views than are typically found in a Spanish colonial home. When you walk into the foyer, you’ll be drawn in by the large windows that capture light and views of the bluest sky and lush garden. You’ll see the handiwork of the incredibly talented people in the craftsmanship, furniture, and art of the home. And you’ll see Agua Volcano looming above the lush surrounding hills.
The main living areas are on the second floor with inviting spaces throughout the property. Cook a meal in the modern, open kitchen and then enjoy it on the adjacent terrace with a view of the volcano. Cozy up in the “cave” with comfortable seating and an inviting fireplace. Rinse off the day’s exertions in the cooling plunge pool and then lounge around and nap in the nearby pergola or Adirondacks. Enjoy morning coffee and the warming sun from the swivel chairs on the terrace. Have drinks, play board games or make art in the formal living and dining room. Watch the game or a favorite movie in the TV space at garden level. In all areas, most of the furniture has been custom-made for comfort since Guatemalan furniture is notoriously uncomfortable.
The four bedrooms each have an ensuite bath. On the garden level, the primary bedroom has a king size bed, views of the volcano, and an outdoor shower in the private secret garden off the one-of-a-kind bathroom. On the same level is a queen bedroom with stone walls, handmade tile floors and a custom shower. Off the entry is the “bunk” room with 4 twin beds, and a special red bathroom with spa tub. Upstairs, closer to the main living area, there is a second primary bedroom with a king size bed, fireplace, marble shower and vaulted wood paneled ceiling.
The house is a 10-15-minute walk from the south of town to the main "Parque Central" that forms the center of charming Antigua. This is a UNESCO World-Heritage site with fantastic Spanish Colonial architecture dating back centuries. From our house you can walk to Central Park, to any number of restaurants, coffee shops, tiendas, churches, ruins, Spanish language schools, and the village market where fresh fruit and vegetables are sold by indigenous farmers.
From Antigua you can also take day trips up to Pacaya or Acatenango volcanos, over to Lake Atitlan, down to the surfing beaches, or visit any number of coffee farms or villages rich with Mayan culture. There are also many 1-day or 1-night packages to visit the Mayan sites of Tikal. Guatemala is a fabulous destination!

My wife and I along with 2 other couples stayed at this beautiful home for 6 days this past August.
The house is stunning. Much bigger and Luxurious than it looks in the photos. The house is designed very tasteful and each room is very spacious. We had more than enough space. The Pool was refreshing during the Hot part of each day. The Kitchen is fully equipped if you like to cook. The Patio and Terrace were very comfortable. The atrium and lighting throughout the Home are out of a Magazine! Lastly, the plants throughout the outside of the home are gorgeous. The Gardener is very talented at maintaining the grounds.
The location of the home is just outside of the main area of downtown Antigua, on the south side. Antigua is a 9x9 grid that is very walkable. We walked into the downtown each day. (Maybe a 15 minute walk to the Central Park of Antigua) Generally we always like to stay right outside the action to have some privacy as well as being close enough to all the stuff to do. We loved the location. We also thought the best Cafes and Restaurants are closer to this home than the downtown. La Escalonia and Meso Panza Verde were exceptional!
2 Maids, a Gardener, and a Window Cleaner come 2 times a week to help keep the house pristine and the plants thriving! They showed up promptly at 9am on Thursday and I believe they were gone in 3 hours. We barely noticed them and they were very kind. Elma (house manager) and Sonja (owner) were both responsive and very helpful!

We extended our stay in Antigua and our hotel could not accommodate us. We reserved Sonja’s house and could not have been happier with our decision. Elma welcomed us. The house is stunning. Ultra comfortable beds, great showers, fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, beautifully landscaped backyard. We used the pool daily and enjoyed multiple seating areas. The furnishings, tile work, architectural touches are first rate.

Our recent stay at this beautifully designed house in Antigua exceeded all our expectations. The property is even more stunning in person than in the photos! Nestled in a wonderful location, it offered peace and quiet in a secure area and easy access to heart of the city, making it the perfect base for exploring.
The host was very responsive and helpful. The house itself was immaculate, with spacious rooms that comfortably accommodated my family. Every detail in the design and decor added to our overall experience!
Thank you for an unforgettable stay! We are already looking forward to coming back.

The property is absolutely stunning. The owner of the house is very attentive and helped me plan my trip to Antigua since it was my first time. On top of that there’s also a house manager that helped with anything during our stay. I would highly recommend staying here, you will not regret it.

Our second stay at this property confirmed what we knew from our first visit - it is a true gem. The house is architecturally striking, managing to beautifully blend Guatemalan style with design. The space is also generous - offering plenty of room to relax and unwind after your day.
Location-wise, the house is a winner. It’s nestled at the end of a quiet street only 7 blocks from the heart of Antigua
The host, Sonja and the house manager, Elma are both fantastic. They are communicative, responsive and clearly care about their guests’ experiences. They went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable.
Overall, we were just as pleased with the property the second visit as we were the first. A unique and comfortable retreat right in the heart of Antigua. Highly recommended!
