About this house rental
Wharf Stables sits in the grounds of the private residence known as 'The Wharf' alongside Stratford on Avon Navigation Canal in the village of Wilmcote. Mary Arden's House, where Shakespeare's mother lived, is one of the major attractions in the area and is situated some 400 metres from the holiday let.
The village is also conveniently situated for those wishing to explore the Cotswolds, Warwick, Kenilworth and surrounding areas, in addition to enjoying the Shakespearian experience in Stratford upon Avon. Warwick Castle is one of the best preserved medieval castles in Britain..
The holiday let is a conversion of an old stone stable block. It was originally used in early 19th century for keeping the ponies used for pulling the carts from the Wilmcote quarry to the quay.
The accommodation consists of 2 bedrooms, one king size bed, and a super king with an option to split to 2 singles. Both bedrooms have en-suites (one with a bath). The holiday let comes complete with necessary fixtures to make your stay enjoyable. Including wifi, dishwasher, 42 inch TV with freeview, radio with USB and bluetooth, freezer and washer/dryer. It is fully centrally heated with heated towel rails and gas effect stove.
Wilmcote has good access to Stratford and, if you wish, the train is 5 minutes walk away. Walk down the towpath or jump on the sightseeing bus that runs regularly between the Shakespearean tourist attractions.
There is a general store in the village, 2 public houses and St. Andrews Church.

This was our first stay at Wharf Stables but I'm sure it won't be our last! The cottage was very well equipped, clean and comfortable and ideal for two couples sharing. The canalside location is stunning and perfect for nature lovers with rabbits, squirrels, swans and even munjac deer all seen in the garden. There are numerous places of interest to visit and good pubs/restaurants within a few minutes drive. Excellent!

From beginning to finish, we enjoyed our stay at the Wharf Stables so very much. In fact, so much that I cried when it was time to leave. Alan and Liz, Thank You for your kindness, for your detailed directions and additional information which helped us greatly. This trip has been a dream of ours for a long time. I would say our dream came true. The atmosphere was a dream all in itself. Loved the birds singing, Bertie the dog, the stunning setting and chatting with Liz. We loved it all!!

We had a wonderful time at this cottage, which was equipped with all we could need and more. It is situated in this quiet village, with the canal on one side as well as the local railway station. We loved walking along the towpath and seeing all the wildlife as well as visiting local attractions.
Thank you to our hosts Liz and Alan for letting us share their amazing piece of paradise....

We had a lovely stay at Wharf Stables in Wilmcote. Quiet area directly on the canal. It was close enough to get to Stratford for sightseeing and shopping and not too far from Birmingham where many of our family are located.
While I did not get to meet the owners my father met Liz and he said she was lovely. Everything was as posted in the listing. I will caution that for those from the US, there is a dryer but it only gets the clothes dry enough to hang and dry quickly on the line.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visits from Bertie the golden retriever. He was a joy to see in the morning for a quick head scratch and he made sure to say good night when we were around in the evening.
The cottage itself was perfect for two couples or a family of four. The bedrooms are on each end separated by the kitchen and living area. This worked well as we have some snorers and no one was bothered.
The canal path was a short walk on the road and we were able to enjoy a walk along the canal often. Be aware that the coffee shop down the road is not always open but the little store has an excellent selection of food and drink. There are many places to eat just a short drive away.
If I lived in England I would surely stay again. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We really enjoyed our first visit to Wharf Stables, it is a beautiful property in a lovely location. It had everything we needed for a short break. Alan was very responsive and more than helpful on the occasions I needed to contact him. The train station was a bonus just a five minute walk from the property. We will definitely be back in the future.

The cottage is one of the nicest we have stayed in. It is well looked after and we cannot recommend it enough. The location is perfect with abundant wild life in the garden and swans on the canal.

We had a fabulous 5 night stay at Canalside Cottage. The accommodation was hard to fault and worthy of a five star rating. The smallest of niggles were pillows that we found quite hard and a TV that lacked smart functionality. The weather was poor, so we found ourselves wanting to watch Netflix or Prime in the evenings which wasn’t available. These were very minor niggles and didn’t detract from what was fabulous accommodation made even more special with regular visits from the owners wonderful dog Bertie. It made our daughter’s week along with the wonderful array of wildlife present in the grounds. We would happily book again.

Very handy for the train and the canal side walks, Great base for visiting the Birmingham NEC shows also. Layout perfect with super king on suite bedroom at one end and a King on suite bedroom at the other end with the lounge / diner / kitchen in the centre so ideal for 2 couples with a separation zone.

We always try & get a week away for our husbands December birthday (twins). The choice of this cottage, in an area we were unfamiliar with proved to be just perfect. From the warm welcome from Alan & Liz on arrival to the cosy property everything could not have been better. A nice touch was the lovely welcome pack & the addition of the Christmas decorations.
The Stable was spotless & well stocked; the beds were very comfortable & the position overlooking the canal was delightful too.
We took a couple of train rides into Stratford Upon Avon - only two stops & did the local National Trust properties which had been festively decorated.
A few lunchtime meals in local pubs & the finding of Cobbs Farm for fresh produce made it perfect.
We can only highly recommend Wharf Stables & the Wilmcote area to you

The property is located on the banks of a canal in the grounds of the owners house in Wilmcote village, a wonderful location. Access and parking are easy with the owners on hand if required. The accommodation is immaculately clean and extremely well fitted out. We loved the fact that the building is an extremely tastefully converted stable with little clues left as a nod to it's history. The location is around 300yards from Wilmcote railway station providing easy access to places such as Stratford-Upon-Avon and Warwick. The railway is conveniently close but the only time that we heard any noise was when a steam train blew it's whistle. Alan and Liz are lovely people and great hosts, we will definitely try to book again.

Alan and Liz are awesome! This property is just what you want if you are looking for somewhere to stay while away and looking to relax! The grounds are amazing. We enjoyed watching the barges go by on the canal, the swans up on the grounds, the rabbits out everyday and we cant forget Berty the dog! He greeted us most days when we got back from wherever we were that day and we loved seeing him around as it helped us with having our dogs back in Canada while we were away!
We had texted Alan to see if we could arrive a little earlier as we got through the airport way faster than we expected and we were exhausted. He was more than accommodating! He was available anytime if needed during the stay and answered any questions right away. There is everything you need at this property to enjoy your stay! Close to shops to get groceries and close to Stratford for a nice day out! Alan and Liz have done a great job listing recommendations for food and places to go in their guest book as well as providing instructions for all the kitchen appliances etc.
We greatly enjoyed our stay and would have no hesitations staying here again!
Thank you both for an awesome 3 weeks! :)

We have now stayed at Wharf Stables during our last 3 trips to the UK from Western Australia. It is impossible to describe the feeling of peace and tranquillity that descends on us the moment we arrive.
The cottage is beautifully appointed and well equipped. The setting is unbeatable - from the cottage one can wave to people passing by on the canal in their narrowboats and watch a variety of wildlife including rabbits, squirrels, ducks and swans in close proximity to the cottage.
This is the perfect place to unwind and relax.

The property and location was perfect for our stay.
It was situated ideally for exploring the area.
If you don’t feel like venturing out you can sit and watch the barges trundling by.

Return visit to this idyllic retreat and so convenient for Stratford upon Avon and our daughter. Liz and Alan are the complete hosts and we were delighted at their generous recognition of Margaret's 80th birthday and Emma's 40th birthday on the same day. As Margaret says "what a way to spend your 40th birthday all those years ago".

Wilmcote is a small village just five minutes from Stratford upon Avon. The Stables is a beautifully renovated cottage on the banks of the river. It was the perfect spot from which to explore the area. We were fascinated by the narrow boats on the river and has endless entertainment watching them negotiate the numerous locks. Thanks Liz and Alan, your property far exceeded our expectations.

We had a great winter getaway at Wharf Stable to unwind before the Christmas festivities. High quality accommodation with everything we needed & lovely hosts (including Bertie the dog!). The Christmas tree & lights were a lovely touch. Well located for visits to local area including close train station. Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay in Wharf Stables very much. Tranquil suroundings, easy acces to Stratford by car or on foot and Birmingham and London by train. Good starting point for trips to the cotswolds. Perfect holiday home for one or two couples or a small family. Best service provides by Alan and Liz as well as Bertie, the dog.

This place is just exceptional and outstanding value for money. I can’t fault anything with the property. The view onto the garden and canal side provides lots of entertainment. We saw muntjacs, rabbits, swans, Moorhens - all enjoying the apples fallen from the tree. It’s a special place in a beautiful setting and the owners are very lovely and kind. The added extras did not go I noticed either (bread, milk, jams, shampoo, shower gel). Thank you Alan and Liz. We will be retuning in a couple of months time.

Arrived in the middle of a heatwave but was pleasantly surprised to find the cottage nice and cool, with the added benefit of a fan. The only downside was that there were quite a few cobwebs which could have easily been cleaned with a duster. Apart from that, it was a good holiday in a good location. Lots of good walks along the canal towpath, and a train station. The train can get you to all the main points of interest in the area. Great watching the canal boats from the grounds and cottage. Nice welcome pack and a handy little shop selling all the essential’s in the village. On the whole it was a nice relaxing week.

Wharfe Stables is a real home from home, with all we needed.
Lovely area to sit looking over the canal.
We visited Sudeley, Kenilwoth, Sezincote and of course Stratford which were all within easy reach.
Highly recommended.

Our second fantastic stay at Wharf Stables.
Yet again, Alan, Liz (and Bertie) were the most gracious hosts, whilst the beautiful garden and shaded canal walks provided very welcome relief from the heat!
Thank you, again, and we look forward to our return.
