About this house rental
This beautiful Carlsbad home is the perfect place to escape and unwind, or entertain and play. With four bedrooms, including a bunk room, large living and dining room, brand new kitchen, a private upstairs loft and bedroom/bathroom, and a backyard with hot tub and fire pit that is perfect for entertaining, you may never want to leave. But if you do venture out, we are located in the perfect spot tucked away on a private street with cul-de-sac, within walking distance to the beach, a short bike ride or drive to the downtown Carlsbad village, and great freeway access.
This home has been completely remodeled specifically designed to accommodate our guests. The downstairs living space is open and spacious with large windows that let in great natural light, with sightlines from the entry to the living room, dining room, and kitchen. The kitchen has been completely remodeled with beautiful countertops, new cabinets, and new appliances.
The downstairs bedrooms are comfortable and spacious, including the bunk room that comfortably sleeps six, and two other private bedrooms.
The upstairs loft/bedroom and conjoined bedroom/bathroom has a separate entrance and is the perfect retreat for those needing peace and quiet, or the perfect game room for guests wanting to laugh a little louder.
The backyard has a large table and outdoor seating, with a brand new hot tub for you to enjoy. The side yard also features an enclosed laundry room and an outdoor shower.
There is plenty of parking with two cars that fit comfortably in the driveway, and additional street parking in front of the house.
This home is one of the few large homes with air conditioning, making for a comfortable stay.
Although this home is located near the train tracks, we have installed double pane windows and additional sound-minimizing measures to help reduce the noise, but please know that these preventive measures do not sound proof the home. Children who stay at the home may even enjoy the sights and sounds of the occasional train.

Had a great time! The air conditioning was a real bonus as it was an unusual hot and humid few days!

Great capacity for a reasonable price.
The train noise isn't as bad as other reviews would lead u to believe.
A/c on main floor is excellent. No A/C to max second story master but the weather isn't hot enough so that it mattered much.
Quick and easy access to beaches and downtown Carlsbad

Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Is a very spacious set up with the rooms and outside sitting area with a hot tub and front porch to chill for a morning coffee. You are walking distance to the beach and very close to downtown Carlsbad. The train bothers you at first night, but you get used to it quickly and really is no issue.
We enjoyed our stay!

Our family of 6, along with another family of 4 had a great time here. Tons of room for the kids to run around and play. Just a short drive to any Carlsbad beach.

We loved our stay here! This home is very spacious and had ample room for our kids to run around. Tucked away in a quiet little coulda-sac. We'll be back!

We had a group of 11 ages 5-70. This place was perfect for what we were wanting. Plenty of room and close to the beach. The train was a novelty for our group and enjoyed the atmosphere with it. Management was a breeze to work with and responded quickly. We will be back.

We were looking to just relax and definitely did. From short walks to the beach to the amazing fireplace and backyard, this home provided some much needed downtime.

Overall, I was frustrated about this property, because at the time we booked it, the listing was new and NOT very accurate.
Some clarifications:
1) the "loft": actually a separate upstairs apartment that you must walk out the back door, up a staircase and enter in a code to access. This is where the king bed was, meaning it is separate from the main house.
2) Commuter train: When we booked, there was no mention of the train, which has been corrected. This train runs until ~12am and starts up again ~5am and if anyone is walking or driving near the tracks, the train sounds its horn. 3 of the 4 bedrooms were at the front of the house, closest to the tracks and you can hear the train horn very well.
3) washers/dryers are outside behind the gait to the house and are shared with units located behind the house as well.
4) there is no garage, pic is misleading. The garage was actually converted into the bedroom with the bunk beds.
Other issues:
1) there was no toilet paper and host said she would bring some over but never did
2) hot tub water was green and disgusting. However, host got tech out the next day and it was remedied.
3) no curtains on the windows, just blinds (not blackouts).
4) no privacy curtains on the giant patio door
5) no boxes of tissues anywhere
6) beds uncomfortable, linens old and dingy and/or dirty
Positives:
1) 10 min walk to Tamarack beach
2) there were beach accessories to use
3) convenient grocery store near

Loved staying at this property. The beds were comfortable and the house was very nice. The grandkids loved watching the train go by. The train was not disturbing even with its close proximity to the house. The beach was around a ten minute walk from the house. Beach chairs provided by the owner was an added plus. Great location near grocery store, downtown and area attractions. Would stay here again.

We had a great time in a very comfortable home. It was as advertised and our 3 families had plenty of room. After an initial issue that was fixed immediately everything went very well!

If you are looking a place beautiful home for a family to vacation this is it!!! It was so clean, comfortable and beautiful.
It was a perfect staycation. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
There is a train that goes by every once and a while. My grandson loved it, and the noice did not bother us at all.
We walked to the beautiful view of the lagoons and a short walk to the beach.
So glad I booked it.

Spacious place to stay. We were there for Legoland and beach. Legoland is right down the way and the beach is a walk away. We also walked down to the restaurant which is a bit of a walk but doable. Beds were comfy.

Spent Presidents week with our son, daughter in law and 3 kids. We went to Legoland, the zoo and the animal park. The house was perfect for us. The girls loved the bunk room. We didn’t use the room upstairs. Big table was nice. We brought games and puzzles and had plenty of room for the 7 of us.

Came to watch Georgia win second national championship. The house was great for us not to far to travel for game. Carlsbad is beautiful even in the rain. Plenty of room, comfortable and good access to Hwy and the beach

We were worried it would get cramped because it rained almost the whole time we were there but I was pleasantly surprised that wasn’t the case. We wished the dining table was bigger or that there was a small table on the side or something but all in all it was great. Internet wouldn’t work on the TV but who wants kids stuck to the screen all day anyways?
Nice beds, great outdoor space, open kitchen. We had a couple kids that loved the train so that wasn’ta downside for us.

The property location was optimal for walking to the beach or to the village. The layout made it so nice to have my family close but separate when we needed our own space.
The people who live behind caught us off guard when they walked by the window a few times and left the side gate open. But we quickly learned who they were.
Loved having a hot tub to sit in at night after a long day of hiking/or spending at the zoo.

This home was a wonderful space for our family vacation this past August. The home was very clean and even more spacious than we expected. The bunk room was perfect for the five young adults we brought and the space upstairs was a nice retreat. The backyard was a lovely setting to enjoy the outdoors while escaping the AZ heat and the jacuzzi was a great bonus! The home was well appointed and met our needs. The hosts unexpectedly brought two new, high quality skillets when they brought over extra bedding we requested. They were very responsive to a couple minor issues we had and were very gracious when there was damage we needed to report.
The home is located within walking distance of both the beach and Carlsbad Village (which was important in our choice) and only a few blocks from a grocery store. The only negative to report would be the train noise (which we were aware of when booking), which is very close to the home. It did not bother anyone downstairs but upstairs with the windows open (yes, trying to enjoy the cool weather!) the first night was rough. The next couple nights we closed the windows and used white noise and slept much better. Overall, this was the best place we have rented for a vacation and would highly recommend.

Great updated space for family or unrelated adults - excellent bathroom ratio. Huge living area and nicely equipped kitchen. Love the front chaise lounges and the back covered patio - great extension of the house - and the upstairs bedroom suite felt integrated to the house. Beds were SO COMFORTABLE. We were able to obtain an early arrival by messaging the owner in the app. We never got arrival instructions and had to ask for the WiFi code which we got from the owners. We had a major mixup on the house entry code - we were given the wrong one and the front door lock worked backwards. The owners were responsive - even giving us the correct code in the middle of the night (yikes!) and coming to the house on a weekend to fix the front lock. Yes, the train is right across the street. We actually loved it - close to YMCA Aquatic Center and beach access by using the gravel road along the tracks. AC worked great (same system downstairs and upstairs) and we loved the filtered water and ice on the fridge door. I would stay in this house again.

Beautiful Home-Close to Beach
I recently traveled to Carlsbad to visit my son in the Marines and had the most wonderful time with my family. The home is gorgeous and close to the beach. Everything was true to listing and the house was so spacious with an open layout that allowed me to cook and entertain all at the same time. It made for memories of a lifetime. The only advice I would say for people who like to enjoy the hot tub in the evening and the backyard with music it is not welcoming to anything past 10 p.m. even when it is just a couple of adults enjoying their vacation home they worked so hard to afford. We were respectful adults and loved the home, but it did make us worried about enjoying our evenings outside on vacation. The owners are very kind and understanding of their surrounding neighbors. Going back the end of August and would definitely stay again if it was available during my travel dates!

Almost-to-beach house, good but room for improvement
My group of extended family had a great stay at this property despite some mixed feelings about the house itself. The area has a lot to do and the walk to beach was easy. (Walk north along the train tracks, as lots of people seem to do, past the private property signs, to Tamarack.) The kids loved watching the train pass by from the front of the house.
In my opinion the house is really only 4 bedrooms however. There are 3 bedrooms downstairs and upstairs is 1 bedroom. Upstairs there is also a small living area with a worn sofa bed. There is a door between the living area and the bedroom upstairs but I would not consider this another bedroom. The arrangement worked out fine for us however but it may not for all groups. Also note that the upstairs is only accessible by an exterior staircase.
The train was fun for the kids but the train whistle can definitely be heard from inside the house, especially on the first run of the morning before 6:00. However unless you want to be a lot further away from the beach the train is something that is hard to escape in this area of the coast.
The house was updated and modern but missing a few things. The large living/dining area was great but needed curtains and/or more carpets for sound dampening. A floor mat by back door is needed, especially for when it rains. We could have also used more towels, washcloths and pot holders in kitchen. The bathroom needed hand towels and washcloths. Adding headboards would make the bedrooms look more put-together. Also missing door stoppers meant door handles could bang the wall if not careful and in fact there was already a hole by the front door when we arrived. The blender leaked out the bottom and some towels and bed linens had holes. Fortunately these are easy to replace and overall we had a good experience.

A return visit to this property and we love the layout, the proximity to the beach, village, and Seaworld. Open layout that accommodates large families well!

Annual Family Beach House
The home was perfect for all 9 of us. The owner was quick to resolve any issues. We loved the private entrance to the bedroom upstairs. The kids loved the bunk room. I would suggest more bath towels in the home and owner to inspect after housekeepers.

Roomier than the photos. Lots of parking.
8 adults and 2 toddlers had plenty of space in comfortable beds in this spacious, well cared for, clean house. Convenient location to beach, Legoland, San Diego Children's Museum, even downtown San Diego attractions. 2 car parking on the carport, lots of free street parking which was great since we had 5 cars to park.
The kitchen was large enough for 3 adults to work in it, and was supplied with basic pots, pans, utensils, flatware, nice big fridge, some non-perishable condiments and starter amount of partial roll of paper towel, dishwasher detergent, cleaning supplies. There were two kitchen towels, no extras. Owner brought over folding chairs for us which was nice. But since it rained for 2 of the days, we couldn't use the large patio table outside to supplement the dining table that seats 6. The kitchen counter has several nice stools. The handle to the patio sliding door was broken off, so we had to use pliers which we had in the car to unlock and lock the door to get to the outside stairs to go to the upstairs bedroom suite. Not sure how we'd have gotten outside to go upstairs if we didn't have pliers...
Having the separate keyed large upstairs bedroom suite was great. King size bed and cloud like sectional in front of a large TV, 2 closets and a 3/4 bath. Perfect for my husband and me and our adult son. Owner brought over an extra pillow as there was only 1 on the bed and brought over extra bath towels as there were not enough for the reservation number. Very responsive to communications. A family member brought over extra blankets for our son.
It was great to have the multiple beach towels in the hall closet, along with an extra comforter. If you like full sets of towels like a hotel or most rental homes, bring your own hand towels and wash cloths.
The washer and dryer are shared with the 2 other units on the lot, but not a problem to do our 3 loads. It was great to be able to do laundry. We brought our own detergent and dryer sheet. We never found the house supply.
The train is loud, especially in the upstairs suite that has a large window facing the tracks. We slept fine as we had ear plugs. But I could still hear the train with the windows shut tight since it was winter. No one downstairs had problems with noise.
Overall a very good deal for a family gathering!

Great Choice
We stayed here a few days with our kids and grandkids and it was a great place for us. The home is as described and was 5 minutes to Legoland and 2 minute drive to the beach. Very close to everything and easy access. Home was excellent shape, very clean and great set up. Enjoyed dinners on the back patio and grandkids enjoyed watching the trains go by. The home is close to the commuter train tracks but did not disturb anyone in our group. We got to meet the owner and she was very pleasant and quick to address any concerns. Will return again when we come back.

Great House - Would Stay Again
This is a terrific house - very much as advertised. It has good style and plenty of space. We had 10 people staying and 4-5 more visiting during the day, and there was plenty of room for everyone to hang out comfortably.
The walk to the beach is a little far if you are carrying lots of stuff (chairs, umbrellas, etc.), but it is easy to drop those off and have the rest of the group walk.
Any complaints are fairly minor. I would say that this house lacks a few of the little things that can make a rental especially comfortable; things like phone chargers, nightstands on both sides of a bed, a guide to local shopping and dining, clear check out instructions, etc. Notably, the Wifi connection is plenty strong, although it fades a bit in the back yard.
But as noted, these are minor and they are the only thing separating the house from a full 5 stars.
Most importantly, the house passes the acid test of whether I would rent here again. The answer is clearly "yes".

Nice stay for family
I stayed here with my husband, parents, and two boys ages 3 and 5. The location is great, with easy access to the highway, beach, and LEGOLAND. The only minor hiccup during our stay was a clogged drain in the bathtub and one of the sinks, but I was able to pick up a bottle of Drano to take care of that.
A lot of reviews have commented on the proximity to the train. It is close, but it didn’t bother me at all. In fact, my 2 sons LOVED it, and ran to watch it in the window every single time.

very nice set up for a family gathering
Everything about the house was good. There were 2 things that could be improved on. My dog could escape the back yard by going under the stairs into the next door back yard and if the workmen left the front gate open, he could go out front. The last 2 days of our stay the workmen were very noisy.

Short, but sweet.
We really enjoyed the hot tub and the fire pit. The beach was about a 10 minute walk with 4 kids in tow between ages 4-7. That was perfect for us as we didn't want to drive any more than we had to. Clean place and responsive owners.

Excellent family gathering house
This was the ideal layout for our family. There were 10 of us including 4 boy child cousins. The grandparents had their separate space, the kids adored the bunk room and the middle generation each had lovely bedrooms. The house was immaculately clean and well outfitted. Would definitely recommend this house and location to others seeking a house for a multigenerational family gathering
