Creating a natural swimming pool.
The building or I should say…..the “cabin “ have no solid walls , if any WILDLIFE attack …..no safe shuttles! the walls are enclosed by net like “green house”.
The entry is too narrow!

The experience in a quite place in the nature.
The breakfast was quite simple.
The utilities and kitchen were dirty, the plates and tools were dirty and not at all clean to use them.
The pool is fill with fresh water but didn't have a proper treatment.
There wasn't enough water in the shower, was a bit complicated to take a shower.
The parking zone was complicated to park a car.

Stunning property and lovely owner. Stunning location. Really comfortable, and so clean. Natural pool was the highlight. Delicious breakfasts.
It was an eco toilet, so we couldn't flush the paper!

The place is just magical. The rooms are lovely and completely surrounded by the forest. You can hear howler monkeys in the morning :)

Lovely view of jungle, natural pond. Balconies.
Heat. No air conditioning. Poorly cooled.

The rooms were very stylishly designed and had incredible views of the jungle. If you want a stay off-the-beaten-path surrounded by the incredible beauty that the Caribbean Coast has to offer this is your place.
Our host, Ana, was very accommodating to make us an exceptional early breakfast (with two to-go boxes for my wife and daughter) as we had to leave early to catch a boat to Tortuguero in Moin. The food was amazing (both quality, quantity and presentation)!
The rooms could use a floor fan, as well as the ceiling fan, to circulate more air around the room as it was quite humid, but still tolerable without. It just would have been a bit more comfortable. The sounds of the jungle were quite noisy which did not make for the best sleep, but were expected given the location and was part of the experience.

La Shamana is a magical place in the middle of the jungle, a 10 minutes drive off the main road. The design of the reception and breakfast area is stunning, as was our bungalow. The pastel colours of the walls, an open shower with real plants as decoration, comfortable sofas and a lovely bed, a coffee machine - plus the terrace with a hammock with a view into the jungle, of course. Breakfast was plenty with fresh fruit and delicious eggs. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly.
The mosquitos were hard work. But using lots of spray does the job eventually.

The room was big and clean and offered a view of the jungle. This allowed us to see howler monkeys from our room. At the terrain we also spotted a sloth nearby and a green spotted poison dart frog.

Our room ("Deluxe Suite" - double bed private ensuite) was really beautiful! Spacious, the shower next to a tree was really cool and the view through the large windows was amazing, you really are in the jungle. You can hear the monkeys howl, all the birds, and occasionally some animal footsteps on the roof😆
Some general good-to-know facts about the place:
- the WiFi really is slow, you can send messages, but you can't really do much else (pages load veeery slowly).
- the were no curtains in our room, so we woke up with the sun at around 5:30am. That was fine with us, but If we would have wanted to sleep longer, that would have been difficult😄
Other reviewers mentioned problems with electrocity and running water, we didn't encounter any of those!
As beautiful as the room is, staying there ist not for the faint of heart. The windows all have mosquito nets, but these look old and we spottet several holes. We had mosquitos, moths, bugs of different sizes, spiders and geckos visiting us and I got to play the hero for my GF, chasing the biggest bugs out of the room. We we're very greatful for the additional mosquito net above the bed, less because of mosquitos than to keep bugs away from us while sleeping.
In addition there we're several huge spiders living right next to our door, which could bei intimidating, If you are afraid of spiders😅
So If you don't mind the occasional bug-visit, this ist a really beautiful place, otherweise you should maybe consider choosing a different one.

The breakfast was great. The location was great, but you definitely need your own car , otherwise it’s a $ 10 taxi ride each way to and from the property.
The room we had was directly attached to the kitchen, so you can hear everything that is going on next door, every thing. Every one speaking, cooking , coughing etc. So if i stayed there again I would just ask for another room. There are 8 rooms to choose from.

The peace, the ambience, the sounds, the environment was amazing. We were able to see wildlife up close and personal monkeys swaying from trees, various spiders, hummingbirds, lizzards etc..there was so much to see. The room was set up quite nicely. Breakfast was good, coffee, juice, eggs, fresh bananas and bread.
We had the option of doing a jungle tour or a massage. We choose the 2 hour Jungle tour and the tour guide Jose was great!
The host could have been a little bit more welcoming she seemed to have a slight off putting demeanor about her the entire stay.
The advertisement for a pool. In which there is a pool but it's said to be a natural pool. This is meant as the pool is cleaned by plants. The water was of a green color in which it resembled the color of algae. The explanation of why the pool was green and why it looked the way it did, was stated it was a natural pool and that's the way it was supposed to look. During our stay not a single guest was seen in the pool.

Great location amid the rain forest, nice comfortable lodge, friendly owner and rico breakfast. Whoever complains about cobwebs and bugs wherever should rethink whether an eco lodge in the jungle is the right thing for him/her :-)
That we could only stay for two nights

Basically nothing! I was not an ecologist but definitely this experience did not bring me closer to écologie!
First of all there were many restriction at all places! Do not threw paper in the toilets, do not wear your shoes inside, do not smoke, do not use electrical appliances.,. the place in the evening was infested with mosquitos ans the mosquito protection around the bed were having big holes through which mosquitos could access the bed cage! One pillow protection was stinking and I had to remove it! When the people next door were talking or taking a shower it look like they were sitting with you in the room! There was not really privacy in the bathroom! Access to the room is made through a rolling door! No fridge in the room! The breakfasts was not included in the price and an extra charge of $10 was requested! I order on for the next day but when I showed up for breakfast the owner has forgotten about it and had to leave because she had an appointment!
At the end we were planning to stay 2 nights but upon our arrival we decided to leave the next morning and found a better accommodation on the ocean front!

The concept is amazing and I think this is a fantastic way to be responsible with a hotel and respect what the owner has done
The location is amazing and you feel like you are really part of nature and in the jungle
Shower and bathroom done to a high level and the inside of the room feels great quality.
the sounds of the jungle as you go to sleep and wake up are lovely
oh yeah they have a natural pool which they don’t show on booking.com we didn’t go in but it looks amazing
The walls are paper thin, this won’t bother you if you can easily sleep through noise or if you’re neighbours are respectful.
However if you’re neighbours are having a normal conversation next door you will hear them like they are in the room talking to you. bring ear plugs trust me.
also I would have got breakfast if it wasn’t $10 as this is a tad steep even for Costa Rica, $8 maybe $9 would’ve seemed like a fair price. however I have heard the breakfast is good so for lots of people $10 is worth it, I’m just travelling and have less money.

La shamana is located in the middle of the jungle, nature is what you hear and what to see. lots of lovely details!
we almost didn’t see the staff, so a bit difficult to ask questions. would also have been great with fresh coffee or tea during the day, since La Shamana is remote.

very quite and nice place in the jungle...real eco-lodge...
10.0 / 10.0
The breakfast was great. The hotel owner was friendly and helpful, and you can tell the ecolodge was a labour of love. It is set in a beautiful location surrounded by the rainforest, so expect to see and hear the wildlife 24/7 (we would recommend ear plugs, so the howler monkeys don't wake you at 5 am). The rooms are comfortable and clean. When we inevitably go back to Costa Rica, we will be sure to stay here again.
Our only negative would be the drive leading up to the hotel is a bit hairy if you aren't driving a 4x4. But once you tackle it once, you know the pitfalls and how to drive up it safely.
