----THE SPACE----
—Some fine print first:
HeathBrooke feels like a second home because it is. It is not a business or investment property. It is not rented out simply as a money maker. It’s a traditional vacation home for getaways with extended family. So guests are expected to treat the property as a family's home and not just another rental property. The owner takes great care to be sure guests have a clean and comfortable stay with everything needed - plus some.
—Things you'll love:
-Central location (More details below)
-Large *wood burning* stone fireplace
-Wraparound (fully covered) porch with a swing, rocking chairs and other seating
-Fire pit area
-Well-stocked kitchen
-100% cotton towels and 100% cotton sheets. Real down comforters (seasonally).
-Five TVs with streaming services and access to lots of actual TV channels. (You can watch live events like local stations and the ACC network instead of just streaming options that air reruns or require subscriptions).
-Traditional design in an updated mountain farm house with antiques and rustic touches. (Not a cookie-cutter log cabin)
-Updated tile shower, vanity and fixtures upstairs.
-Highly-rated Sonos speakers that can fill the cabin with music.
—More details:
The final five minutes of your drive to HeathBrooke will bring you up a curvy mountain road to Seven Devils. HeathBrooke greets visitors with a large front-and-side porch just above 3,700 feet in elevation. Depending on the season, beautiful sunrises can be seen from the front porch or from any of the front windows. The fire pit can be enjoyed year round. Firewood for the fire pit and fireplace is often provided, but it is not a guaranteed amenity.
The cabin is well-furnished with furniture and décor that will make you feel at home.
A speedy WiFi signal reaches every room and out onto the porch. Televisions in the living room, each bedroom and the loft have reliable service with an expanded channel lineup (much more than basic channels). Each television accesses local broadcast channels/networks, Spectrum cable channels and streaming services (via Spectrum’s Xumo box or Roku).
If you enjoy cooking meals on vacation, you'll find the kitchen to be one of the better-stocked kitchens available in a rental cabin. The handcrafted dining room table seats 6 to 8, and the kitchen counter has four seats. A four-burner grill just outside the kitchen makes it easy to grill for a crowd.
Firm mattresses, plus soft, clean and comfortable bed sheets and bath towels will noticeably enrich your stay. The 100% cotton bed and bath linens are included in your stay. Leave them and your trash for housekeeping to take care of. A few toiletries may be available in each bathroom, but you should bring your own soaps, shampoos, lotions, etc.
—More on the LOCATION:
HeathBrooke's location is great for people who want to be out of the way but still close to everything the High Country has to offer.

—A note about HEATING and air:
Baseboard heaters provide heat in each room. Each one is independently controlled by a **thermostat that must be set in each room.**
As with many mountain homes, cooling comes from ceiling fans and mountain breezes passing through open windows. HeathBrooke does not have central air conditioning. This is quite common in the High Country where temperatures are rarely high enough to warrant a/c.
—A note about PARKING:
It's totally possible to fit three cars at the top of the driveway, but few guests do that well without driving off the pavement near the house. If you anticipate driving more than two vehicles, or if your two vehicles are large, please take care. Please see the rules section below for more information.
—A note about WINTER TRAVEL:
Accessing HeathBrooke on the paved streets of Seven Devils is rarely a concern. Whenever traveling in the town is hazardous due to snow, ice or a combination of both, a flashing sign at the base of Seven Devils Rd. will be clearly illuminated. When the sign is flashing, the town’s “chain law” is in effect, requiring Chains, Snow Tires with Studs, 4WD/AWD or a Combination of those. Reservations are not refunded due to road conditions. Snow plowing of the driveway is not a complimentary or guaranteed service.
—A note about SERVICE CALLS:
The need for maintenance or repairs during your stay is rare, but if the need arises please keep in mind that HeathBrooke is not a commercial property. So there is no maintenance crew on staff. Just like your own home, 24/7 maintenance/repairs may not be immediately available, especially in this rural area with a small college town.
—A note about TRASH SERVICE:
There is no on-street trash collection in Seven Devils. Guests should leave trash inside during their stay to avoid encounters with bears. On the morning of check-out, trash may be left in the trash cans outside near the side entrance. (Confirmed guests receive more info.)
—One things you may not love:
With current seating, only five people at a time can gather in the living room, unless others sit on the hearth, the cushioned ottoman/coffee table, the floor or kitchen bar seats. (Notice the seating in the photos.) It's not a problem if everyone rarely gathers all at once. An additional seating/TV space is in the loft.
—A note about PENALTY FEES and HOUSE RULES:
VRBO only has room for three rules in the rules section, so this space was needed to include rules #1 and #5 here. They have been added based on previous guest experience. Requesting a stay confirms your understanding and agreement to these rules.
1.) Please stay on the pavement of the driveway, especially near the house/porch. Tires onto the grass/ground soften the dirt and contribute to damage and erosion. Please take advantage of the pavement further from the porch. If tires run over the grass/ground near the porch during your stay, there will be a $250 fine.*
2.) Don't take anything that's not yours. ...but do leave the trash, and leave it inside until checkout morning, please. On check-out morning, put *all* your trash (including refrigerator contents) outside in one of the trash bins so it can be collected.
3.) Don't act in a way that causes damage to something. (This includes cookware. Knives & other sharp edges should not be used on non-stick pan surfaces.)
4.) Take care around the natural limbs incorporated into the loft railing. There are natural & unfinished points & edges.
5.) Don't have a group of more than 8 overnight guests without prior approval. There is a $15 fee for each approved person beyond the 8-person limit. There is a $250 penalty fee for unapproved overnight guests. Gatherings (such as daytime visits) of larger than 12 also require prior approval.*
* A security camera in the driveway detects when vehicles arrive and leave, and it helps regulate rules 1 and 5.

Guests loved the cozy and warm vibe, felt like staying at a family cabin. Highlights were the fireplace, upstairs shower, and spacious rooms. Would definitely return!

Can't say enough nice things about this home! Beautiful location, super clean, comfortable beds, AMAZING upstairs shower, awesome fireplace, and well stocked kitchen! We took a weekend getaway to snow tube at Hawksnest and couldn't have picked a better home away from home! Definitly keeping on our listed of "loved" vrbo homes!

We stayed at this home with another family for New Years Eve weekend. We took our kids tubing at Hawks Nest which was a quick and easy trip. Communication with Brandon was easy. The home was clean upon arrival. It had everything we could need. The upstairs shower was lovely. The living room was nicer than pictured. We had flurries during our stay but no significant snow or ice so no experience in poor driving conditions, no difficulty getting to home. We have traveled to this area several times and would stay at Heathbrooke again.

Home was just as described, very comfortable for our family. The area is very beautiful. Close to everything we wanted to do.

Loved the warm and cozy vibe. Felt like you were staying at a family member's cabin rather than a rental. Highlights were the fireplace and upstairs shower. Porch was very nice, but no mountain view from there - you have to look out the shower window upstairs or walk down the driveway for the mountain view. Plenty of room for our group of 6 ladies (5 adults, 1 child). Would definitely stay again!

Very nice and cozy cabin. Close to where we were visiting “Hawks Nest” plenty of wood for a fire and super nice host.

The title says it all. We spent TEN days here and could have/ would have stayed longer if we were able. It was my husband and I and our four children ages 8-12.
The kitchen has EVERYTHING you could imagine. I mean EVERYTHING. I usually travel with a pot, a pan, good knives and a griddle because most rentals have crappy kitchen set ups and I really enjoy cooking. Plus four kids;) Allllll the cleaning supplies were provided. Extras of everything. TP… paper towels… garbage bags. Everything was SPOTLESS. There were a plethora of linens and towels. The beds were comfortable. Couches were comfy. Decorations were 👍👍. Everything on the inside was amazing. I would actually like Brandon to come and organize my space. It’s clear that everything was done with intention. Nothing was spared. This is the kind of place were you just pack your cloths and enjoy your time.
Now let’s talk location… perfection. 10 minutes to a grocery story which if you’ve stayed in the area before you know that can be an issue. 15-20 minutes from all ski mountains. There was sooooo much to do. We loved day snowboarding at Sugar and then heading over to App mountain for night skiing. Hiking grandfather mountain. It was a FANTASTIC adventure filled 10 days.
The only thing I would say is DEFINITELY make sure you have four wheel drive in the winter months. We were fine but we saw a lot of mini vans off the side of the road leading up to the house. It’s super steep and winding. My Jeep did slowly roll out into the middle of the main road because I parked it on ice. I’m sure if there is video Brandon is watching laughing. Lawd knows the neighbors, plow guys and us were all dying.
We will be back. 1000% I recommend this place. Thank you for a wonderful vacation.

The property was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed cooking in the well stocked kitchen. It very much felt like someone's home instead of an impersonal rental property.
4.0 / 5.0
HeathBrooke was plenty of room for us to spread out in. The view was pretty in the morning, as the house faces east, so the sun brightens it up well. After about noon, though, it's kind of dark inside, with the mountain behind it and so many trees shielding it from the nice daylight.
Lots of counter space in kitchen, and lots of cabinets, but not lots of available space to put your own things. We ended up leaving a lot out on the counters. King-sized mattress wasn't very comfortable, but the coverings were plenty warm. Once the floor heaters are turned up for a while, they seem to do a good job, except for the air coming in through the window glass. When it was just a decent chill, it wasn't bad, but it took quite a deep cold turn at the end of our visit, and it made a major difference then.
It's quite a curvy, ascent up the mountain to reach the house (and then the steep driveway,) but you find that you're kind of doing that everywhere you go while you're there anyway, so it becomes one of the prettiest drives! And it really is located pretty centrally to Boone, Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain, Banner Elk, Sugar and Beech mountains, so even for hiking, you have quite a selection with relatively short drives from this house.

Enjoyable Weekend Getaway
We were very pleased with our recent stay at this cabin in Seven Devils. The location is terrific—close to both Boone and Blowing Rock to hit all the major attractions. Everything was in working order and as described. We especially enjoyed the fire pit and outdoor area. It was a very peaceful and pleasant experience.

Girls GetAway
Great property in a terrific location. We were a party of four women & each enjoyed our own space. The kitchen was well-appointed with lots of extras. It was a terrific home base for lots of different hikes & even the Virginia Creeper. Check-in was super easy & owner was a great communicator which was much appreciated.

Six senior ladies for a girls trip
We loved the fireplace and used it a lot. The dining room was great for our meals and for playing games. We loved the firepit and porch... sadly we had rain so we didn't get to enjoy the firepit as much as we would have liked to. Brandon.. the owner was very accessible from start to finish and made sure that we enjoyed our stay. We hope to make it our annual trip.

Wonderful experience
Wonderful experience. My wife and I return to Western North Carolina for several weeks every year to enjoy the fall colors. Heathbrook Cabin was one of the most comfortable and well appointed cabins we have rented. We hope to return next year. Jim

Wonderful stay in Seven Devils
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heathbrooke. The outdoor space with large porch and adjacent fire pit was our favorite part. Our kids loved the loft also. Only word of caution is the natural wood in the loft railing is not meant for protecting small children. We had to watch our toddler very closely. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful visit
We came with our 4 kids (2 teenagers, 2 three year olds) this house was a perfect fit for us. We had a great time and felt very comfortable from the time we walked in the door. The stair railings are spaced pretty far apart so that was the only safety concern. We enjoyed the large porch, the fire pit and the indoor fireplace. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking and accommodated several people at one time. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at home most days. The only recommendation I have would be to make the stair case railings and upstairs railings more safe for small children.

Winter vacation from Florida
Absolutely loved the heathbrooke. Communication with Brandon was always quick. The location of the home was perfect. So close to do many things that we wanted to do on vacation. Saw many doe's walking the woods behind the house. We had three adults and five kids all under the age of 16 and was more than plenty of room for us. The nice big fireplace in the living helped keep us Floridians warm after a long day on the slopes. Would recommend to anyone and we will definitely be back!!

Christmas at the Cabin!
We stayed over Christmas and the property had Christmas decorations which aided to the aesthetics of the cabin! The cabin was clean, and the cabin was completely stocked with everything we needed (aside from a tea kettle, so we used a pot to boil water which was fine with us. I’m only mentioning in case the owner wants to add one).
Everything was cozy and we had an absolutely wonderful time. Looked exactly like the pictures. Our intent was to go skiing for a Christmas gift to our children. The weather warmed up that week, however we were still able to go to sugar mountain for 3 days and took a trip into Boone to walk around and look in the shops. In the evenings we lit a fire in the massive fireplace and watched Christmas movies or played games. The fireplace was stocked with firewood and kindling! They thought of every way to accommodate guests and made it easy for us to help ourselves!
The area around the cabin was very nice. We took a few walks in the nearby neighborhood. The porches on the cabin are wonderful too!
We couldn’t have enjoyed ourselves more ☺️.
My only complaint was that I felt like the bed was a little hard and I woke up with an aching back. However... I do have a bad back so that is common for me. My husband slept well. All the beds have very cozy linens and blankets! Very inviting!
We would stay there again! We loved it!

Beautiful home, well equipped with everything you need. Lots of small conveniences - plenty of towels, throw blankets, well stocked kitchen, wood for fire pit, etc. Really great location, close to Boone and many other attractions.

This was a beautiful location high in the mountains (did not miss A/C even in August).
This was a comfortable home to stay in for the week while moving my daughter into her first appartment. We were quite comfortable without A/C even during August. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the humming birds. We even saw a few deer. It is a quiet neighborhood with friendly neighbors (people wave to you).

4 nights in the mountains
Was a nice property. Central location to Boone, Banner Elk, & Grandfather Mtn. House nicely updated but upstairs shower was difficult to use without getting water all over floor. Without A/C upstairs a little stuffy as it was in 70’s during our visit. Very well equipped kitchen.
