We had a great family getaway. We especially loved the screened in front porch, private beach, and the generosity of the hosts!
4.7
We enjoyed our stay. It was relaxed and enjoyable ! The only comments I would like to make for fix, not so much negative ! Water pressure in the showers was low, the back porch door closure jammed and we removed it, laid it on porch table to secure the door. Private beach alot of seaweed, kids not able to play in sand or water

Nice big house. Friendly neighbors.

Truly amazing stay! The house is terrific and a great place to be out of the way of the bustle, while still remaining close enough to nearby activities. Like i said, we were blown away by how much better the property is than the listing gives it justice!
It was a bit confusing to find the first time, as the number isnt displayed on the road. But if you have sharp eyes, you'll find it. If you want to swim, pay attention to what the tides are doing. But the water was amazing. Only true complaint: many of the windows were hard to operate, or almost completely inoperable. But this had an extremely limited impact on our enjoyment of our time there.
Check in and check out also super easy. Would stay again!

The house is very big and accommodating. The yard and beach access was a major plus. There was a cockroach inside which was slightly off putting but not a huge deal. We requested sheets which they kindly provided. Communication was great and check in/out was seamless.

We all - seniors to toddlers - enjoyed our stay here! Wonderful to be on the river, and also convenient to Williamsburg!

There’s a lot about the property that isn’t described well in the post such as you’re next to another home where people rent long term-not only sharing a driveway.
The house is very “80s” and has some updates such as the kitchen floor but also has very old carpet along with mouse traps that still had the dead mice in them.
But the location and private beach is a plus and the house does comfortably sleep 8-10 people.
My BIGGEST concern with this property was that the host NEVER communicated with me after he received all the money for the rental AND the number on his site isn’t his, it sent me to some park service.
This was a big deal for us as we paid extra for linens only to show up and NONE were provided. Thank goodness we found the “emergency sheets” or we would be having to go purchase sheets.
Won’t be going back but it was perfect weather so we stayed outside on the beach all day long.
If you’re just looking for a place that’s only a shell with furniture to make food and you’re fine with bringing ALL your own things but want a private bay beach then this is the place!

Overall nice house, big enough for the family to spread out and have their own space. Location was perfect and the neighbors were friendly. The house was clean but could use an overall deep clean.
4.7
The house was large but needed to be cleaned more thoroughly. There was enough room for the 8 of, 4 kids and 4 adults.
The private beach was the ENTIRE reason we booked this house and the beach was unusable. The amount of seaweed made the beach impossible for us to enjoy. While I understand it washed up, there has clearly been so much built up that it wasn't all just from a day or two. The smells was horrible. We had to spend most of our time driving to find a beach all of us could enjoy.
When we arrived we panicked as one of the garage doors were open, and after a phone to call Greg it was explained that he had people renting the home that shared the driveway with this one. The renters were nice but we didn't appreciate the child asking as all about how long our stay was going to be, or if we were going to use the beach.
This home also needs upgrades. The TV in the playroom was very old and the DVD player was unfortunately broken so the kids couldn't use the TV. The toys in the room were nice though and we appreciated that. I wish the bedrooms or at least the other bigger one upstairs had a TV.
The air-conditioning worked but it was so inconsistent that none of us could be comfortable. The wifi also went in and out multiple times through the stay.
Greg was very responsive but we wish we felt less 'catfished' about this property, especially for the price.

Our family of 7 enjoyed this home! There was something for everyone to do! My 8 year and 11 year old especially loved the beach area. They caught so many crabs and spent hours there! It’s close enough to the parks but far enough away from all the town life. We had deer, frogs, lizard visitors. The space of the house was perfect as well as a fully stocked kitchen! Neighbors are extremely nice too! Would recommend picking this home!

My group had so much fun with the private beach! The canoe was such a great amenity along with the ping pong table. Would definitely say to make sure you bring your own toilet paper and paper towels etc, but other than that had a fabulous stay in an absolutely beautiful area. Would recommend this vacation to anyone.

We stayed the week for our spring break and the property did not disappoint. Besides the well appointed rooms and the kitchen the luxury of the private beach felt most special. It was hard to step away from the shores of the York with such lovely weather, however we did manage to explore the historical and significant sites that were so close to our stay. With every visit we find something new and look forward to another visit soon.

We had a wonderful time .

This home has an amazing view! Lots of beds to accommodate a stay with a large family. Unfortunately the house was not very clean. We were visiting my parents who live locally so we were only at the house to sleep at night, otherwise it would have been a bit harder to tolerate. Especially for the price, having to pay for a linen package, etc. I expected a 5 star experience, & it fell short.

I was so excited to find this house just one street down from my parents home in Hayes!
The house itself was comfortable and clean, though it involved a little bit more BYO then I am used too. I also wanted to let the owners know that I did see some termites around the front door of the unit, as well as the communal downstairs restroom. As the majority of the house has hardwood features, I would highly suggest getting a fumigation done, to prevent any damage to the house.

The house and location are really good. Nice little sandy beach. The house is well kept and equipped, glad I went with the linin/towel package. Only thing I'd like to see would be an outside shower.
4.7
The location was great and we loved the outdoor set up. The kitchen was nice and was a great gathering place. The layout of the house is interesting and could spend some more time on cleaning. Overall enjoyed our experience!

The house is right next to the water with a small beach and has a beautiful view. The kids liked playing in the sand but couldn't really splash around in the water too much due to jellyfish, crabs and a lot of sea grass. That didn't keep them from wading in it though and they really enjoyed their time on the beach.
The house is spacious with lots of room for our families to spread out. I wish that it was cleaner -- there were dirty vents, dusty shelves and it looks like nobody has ever cleaned behind or under the furniture. The bathrooms and kitchen area were clean.
My biggest concern during the trip was that the neighbors spent time in the yard while we were there. They would set up a hammock down by the beach and hang out down there with the kids... which made us feel uncomfortable using the beach. They were also mowing and trimming up near the house while we were in the house. I felt a little uncomfortable having a stranger running the trimmer right outside the window where I'm eating dinner with my family. Don't understand why that can't be done between renters when nobody is in the house.
All in all, I'd recommend the house, but wish that the situation with sharing the yard with the neighbor would have been made more clear.

1. What a beautiful property, the view can't be beat and watching thunderstorms over the river was amazing!
2. Plenty of room!!!! Family of 7...we were quite comfortable.
3. Super convenient to Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown and we even spent a day at the Virginia Air and Space museum in Hampton (about 45 minutes away).
4. If you are traveling with kids....this is the BEST house for hide and seek that I have ever stayed in. We played every single day of vacation!
5. Owners very responsive. We had to contact them because the AC died (in August!). They had someone out to repair it very quickly to make sure our stay was comfortable.
6. Hot tip...bring toilet paper and paper towels. While the owners do ask that each guest leave some for the next as a courtesy, that doesn't mean the previous guest followed that procedure. After a long drive we arrived all having to go and 2 squares of tp in the house lol.
7. The towel/linen package includes bedding and bathroom towels. No kitchen towels. I never realized how much I use kitchen towels until I didn't have them...bring those too! Otherwise kitchen well stocked to cook and eat.
We look forward to staying again our next trip to Virginia!

Great property to stay at

Great for large group
We had two families staying, and there were plenty of places for all of us to sleep. The large kitchen made it easy to prepare meals for everyone, and we were able to sit together and eat at the large dining table. We didn’t use the water as much as we would have liked because it rained most of the week, but there are lots of places to go that are just a short drive away.

Nice location but ....no toiletries?
Let me start by saying the property is in a very nice location, private beach, beautiful big yard, ample parking too.
Once you get inside however, a property this size barely had enough soap and toilet paper in it for a family to use without running out the first night. Maybe most renters drive and don't have an issue either bringing toiletries or driving 20+ min to Walmart to buy them but I personally flew in from Georgia so it wasn't easy rationing toilet paper. Also, the property isn't the cleanest. That always strikes me when I see it in rentals because they all charge cleaning fees, so the expectation is for it to be very clean when you get there. Some spots behind furniture looked like they hadn't been touched in months. The furniture is outdated.
The kitchen was great and having laundry appliances was also great. Ping pong table was a nice touch, the paddle boat too.
The kids enjoyed the bunk beds and the beach.

We loved our stay at the Getaway! Highlights or the property include the well equipped and spacious kitchen, high speed wifi, comfortable living room and bedrooms, plenty of bathrooms, the upstairs kids play area, and of course the beach! The location was close to shopping centers, grocery stores, and pharmacies. A short drive to all the area attractions like Yorktown, Jamestown, Williamsburg, and Busch Gardens made it a convenient and easy to plan our days. It was so nice to come to what felt like a home-away-from-home after a long day in the parks. Having a washer and dryer was also a major plus! Would definitely recommend and will book again for our next trip to VA. Especially well suited for families with young ones.

The overall experience was excellent. The only issue we had before arriving was that we hadn’t heard from the host with lockbox information. We had to google him to get a phone number. Once corrected it was fine. If someone claims to be a “host” I think they should provide toilet paper and trash bags. Also they left all the tv remotes with no batteries. Not a huge deal but not very host like.
The house was very comfortable and we had no trouble navigating around the area.

Lovely holiday weekend
We had a little hiccup at the beginning of our stay but otherwise the place was absolutely perfect. Big enough for our group to spread out when we needed space but several large congregating areas that fit everyone. My 4 year old loved the selection of toys and the adults loved all the equipment for the beach. Your own little beach on a holiday weekend was amazing. Will definitely stay here again if we are in the area.
