About this cabin rental
We have a beautiful Cape Cod style cabin on Lake Hartwell, approx 40 min from Clemson, SC, and 45 min from Helen and the North Ga mountains. The cabin sits on a very large lot and is in a cove with only a few homes. Freedom Lake Cabin is clad in cedar and wood, inside and out and has a spacious open floor plan. The den has an open vaulted ceiling with a flat rock hearth and wood stove providing rustic lodge-like ambiance in a relaxed and comfortable setting. It is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing vacation with family or friends.
Wooden decks wrap around most of the home, providing beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding forest. There is also a screened in section of the back deck with a table and chairs for outdoor dining. The huge front porch has rocking chairs and a porch swing and is the perfect spot to relax and read a good book or just enjoy the atmosphere.
The den area upstairs has YouTubeTV live streaming on our Roku stick. A dining area sits adjacent to the den and overlooks the lake. We also have WiFi Internet.
The home has a full kitchen upstairs complete with a JennAir range top for cooking, an electric oven, dishwasher, microwave and coffee maker. The home also has a second kitchen in the basement with a range top and a second full size fridge in the garage.
The master bedroom upstairs has a king-sized bed and is furnished with several antique pieces from the Southeastern US. The master bathroom, just off the master bedroom, is newly renovated and has a shower/tub combo. The 2nd bedroom upstairs is also furnished with several antiques from the area, including an authentic iron bed.
The home has a fully finished basement. The wood-clad den area in the basement has a TV and a karaoke machine with hundreds of songs available.
The home’s 3rd bedroom is in the basement. It has a queen sized-bed as well as a smaller twin bed. Just off this bedroom is another full bathroom with a combo shower/tub.
Outside of the home, there is a BBQ grill.
The property sits on Lake Hartwell, in a quiet cove. The oversized boat dock has a covered storage area for a boat as well as a sundeck perfect for sunbathing. Kids (and some adults) seem to love to jump off the sundeck into the lake.
Note there is a set of steps that lead down to the lake. It's not recommended for those with physical limitations.
Pontoon boat and Jet Ski rental is nearby in Lavonia and Gumlog. More information is available upon request.
Whitewater rafting and zip line tours are also nearby in Long Creek, SC, a short 45 minute drive. For more info, visit
This is truly the perfect vacation spot for families looking to get away from the big city and enjoy time together. The close proximity to Clemson and Athens also make it a perfect spot to enjoy a football weekend. Great fishing, swimming and boating await you here.

Wife's dad passed away unexpectedly. Daughter graduated high school. All the arrangements where complete exhaustion. We chose a vacation for a break and to be with family.

This little, well, it actually was way bigger than I thought, but it was just the two of us, so we had plenty of room. We would definitely go back. The master bath has been redone. There are other rooms that show the age, but the house was clean and perfect for us. The master bed is the only bed used in the house so I can only speak to that but it could use an upgrade. Owners were very very fast in responding. We had no issues and would recommend to anyone.

Too steep for handicapped husband to go down to lake
Entrance was very hard for husband to get into. My son inlaw flushed the hot water tank, which got rid of the odor. He also repaired drip under kitchen sink. We loved the cabin and it was perfect way to relax and spend Christmas.

This cabin worked just fine for a 3 person work trip. The stairs to the basement can be tricky if carrying a load, but there is a back door on the basement level for convenience. Communication was excellent!

First of all, I booked, paid, then was told the cabin was already rented for that week. Then they tried to up the price. When we arrived, the place was NOT clean. The bathrooms were hideous, pee and pubic hair left on toilet around the seat and around the bottom. There was a layer of dust on just about everything. The counters in the upstairs kitchen had a sticky residue on them. The throw rugs were dirty. The only thing that was relatively clean were the sheets on the bed. Thank goodness we brought our own pillows! No way would I lay my head on the pillows provided! The trip down to the lake was treacherous. Not suitable for children or the elderly. I went to sit outside in a rocking chair and it collapsed with me in it! We were told there was a ping-pong table…there wasn’t. There were cornhole boards but no bags and no level ground to play on. All in all, this was the worst experience at Lake Hartwell I have had. I do not recommend this place.

We arrived on a Tuesday and check in was effortless. Plenty of room for entire family of 10. Lake was beautiful and we really enjoyed the front porch. We knew the walk to the dock was steep but you really get your exercise. We loved the cabin and the host was the greatest.

Awesome cabin. Wonderful amenities and location.

It would be nice if you would have a picture of the stairs leading down to the lower level as they are very steep and not suitable for older adults and children. The property needs maintenance and the deck needs to be repaired. The steps leading to the house are very difficult for older adults to maneuver.

A group of 10 Moms had a delightful time, very well equipped, home atmosphere and immediate response from Owner, he was wonderful to work with :)

My husband and youngest son fished in the National Fishers of Men Bass Tournament on Lake Hartwell. The property was perfectly located close to launches for scouting and also near Greenpond Landing for the weigh in. There were several activities nearby for the kids to enjoy. The cabin was lovely located in a very quiet neighborhood. GPS brought us right to the front door.

The cabin was perfect. Cozy and spacious at the same time. We had a perfect christmas, we baked cookies, Karaoke,
and had wood burning in the fire. The cabin felt warm, the water was always hot. The decoration was lovely. We are looking forward to making more memories at the lake cabin in the future.

I came with my older kids (19 down to 6) and everyone had a great time. The house is comfortable and fully stocked and the kids had a great time in the water (and with the karaoke machine). The bedrooms were comfortable and the deck, porch, screened-in porch, and the dock were great for sitting and reading. It would be hard for someone with mobility issues or for families with very young kids. I highly recommend the cabin!

We had a great time, lots of fun. The cabin was plenty big enough to accommodate 8 adults, although we were only two. They had everything anyone would need. There was plenty of things to do. Very comfortable and relaxing.

Not one thing to complain about! Even the walk down and back to the lake allowed us to get out steps in! Fully stocked house, very comfortable! Can't wait to go back!

This was the first time I/We have ever rented a VRBO. As with anything new, you are nervous, reluctant, and there are so MANY uncertainties. The Owner of this VRBO walked me through EVERYTHING! The Hamilton Brothers have clearly been doing this for awhile! I would highly recommend this VRBO. It was clean, SAFE and exactly like it was listed! Their communication with me throughout the process was GREAT. (As a first time VRBO person, I sent a few messages.) They responded very quickly and I NEVER once felt they were “out of the loop”! Great Stay and DEFINITELY 5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

30th Birthday fishing!
We stayed at this beautiful house for 5 days and wished we could've stayed 5 more. We went to celebrate our son's upcoming 30th Birthday. Everyone enjoyed the fishing. And our little guy loved being able to swim right of the dock. My mom loved sitting on the screened in deck drinking her coffee. The house is older but we could tell well loved and clean with plenty of space. We felt like we were at home and loved every minute. We are hoping to come back in the fall for more family time. Thank you to the Hamilton brothers for sharing such a wonderful place.

Cozy
The Cabin was very cozy and very well kept, the location of the property is amazing and the snowfall made it look like a winter wonderland.

Dirty and issues with bugs
The scenery was amazing, there's no denying the peaceful view of the lake. Beyond that, the cabin was quite dirty. There were dead bugs in the windows, the stove was caked in grease, the carpet looked like it hadn't been shampooed since the 90s, and the liner on the beautiful claw foot tub was peeling. We tried to pull out the trundle bed but ended up not using it due to the trash and used socks underneath. My husband also got completely covered in bites while sleeping. We found a bug crawling on a pillowcase and assumed it was a tick but wondering now if it's actually bed bugs. Wishing now I would've taken a picture now. We still had a great trip, but these things left much to be desired.

Rustic cabin in the woods on a lake
Ideal setting & setup. Fully stocked, ideally decorated, nicely private. Large enough for the 6 of us. If we'd been there longer or at a warmer time of year, we would have used all of the fun amenities. As it was, we were so busy being a family just enjoying visiting & relaxing that we didn't even turn on the TV during our 4 day stay.
Only negative was cell reception, which was fine outside but spotty inside. No big deal, but something to be aware of b4 you go.

Clean, comfortable home with Lake access.
We really enjoyed our stay.! House was clean & comfortable and our grandsons fished day & night off the dock. Our son was able to keep his 17’ boat tied up for quick use. It is a steep walk & lots of steps to the dock which can be tough on us Seniors but we still enjoyed our stay.

Wonderful lake property
We had a wonderful mini vacation at this property. The owners were very hospitable and got back to us immediately about any questions we had about planning our trip. The house is very spacious with a wonderful lower level suite. They outside deck is perfect for an evening grilling out and relaxing. We truly enjoyed use of the spacious dock with boat access. We can’t wait to plan our next vacation here.
