The room smelled and no matter how many candles we burned or how many windows we opened, it still smelled. The window blinds were dirty and so were the window sills. The sliding doors were difficult to open and close from dirt collected in the tracks. One of the kitchen cupboard doors wouldn't stay closed and the bathroom door stuck and was hard to close. The beds were pretty comfortable but the couch and chair in the living room were like sitting on cinderblocks.
The space needs to be upgraded or at the very least it needs a deep cleaning top to bottom.
While the owner did respond when I reached out with questions, it was generally with a single word. There was never any elaboration that would have been helpful. There was no "welcome to my property, let me know if you need anything." There was no response at all when I wrote to tell her that the people upstairs overflowed their bathtub and flooded our bathroom at 11:00 pm one night.
I'm not saying don't book, but if anyone is going to pay good money that is not refundable they need to know what they are getting.

Our stay was great from start to finish, the unit was perfect for our family! We enjoyed the central location in Kauai, the pools and hot tub were great for kids. Laundry was easy to do down the hall, and we enjoyed using the grills on the property several times. We would definitely stay again!

Good accommodations. Great location.

When we checked we immediately began to find cockroach bait stations all over the unit. They were in every drawer of the kitchen (dozens) sometimes more than one in a drawer. There were massive roach motels in all closet areas and the bathroom along with storage area.
When I went to put out luggage in the master closet I noticed that bait stations had been dragged in there and chewed up! It was gross. Plastic bits were everywhere as rodents had chewed up the station to eat the bait. My husband has 13 years experience in pest control and that couldn't prepare us for the nightmare ahead.
In the morning I came into the living room and my husband hadn't slept a wink. He opened the sofa sleeper (same one in the listing photos) and the inside of the mattress was FILTHY! Literally. Rats had dragged bait into the mattress and chewed the bed up. There was rat urine and feces along with mold from when the waste had rotted. There was shredded bait stations and hair, trash & filth inside the bed and behind the couch. This place had not been cleaned!!! And I mean for a VERY long time. We found so much rat poop we were sick. Urine stains are in the flooring behind the bed. At that point we also had roaches dying all over the unit so I called the owner.
The owner admitted they have an uncontrolled rat & roach issue. She doesn't care! DO NOT STAY HERE! It was a nightmare. Ruined our stay on island. We lived on Kauai for 7 years & never experienced this level of infestation! AVOID.

We enjoyed our stay in Kauai. This place is central and we discovered this beautiful island. The pools and jacuzzi were nice. Near nice food trucks and grocerie store.
Magical stay. It was perfectly clean.

Interesting
The support person, Molly, was not helpful at all she either could not or would not answer simple questions such as can we get clean towels or linens her only answer was no one will do any cleaning until you leave. We were told when we checked in that they were not responsible for anything in the unit and we could call them for any problems outside. I’m pretty sure I won’t be booking anything through VRBO in our future travels.

Owner ignores my calls
The owner responded to a complaint I had but didn't solve the problem. We had to leave the premises a day earlier due to that and never received our money back.

Great place to stay
Great place for a short time stay. We are a family of five and it was a bit small for that number of person. Communication with property owner was cold and pictures on the sites aren't all accurate, but overall we had a very nice stay and enjoyed pool and jacuzzi!

Convenient, clean, and nice!
We came over for a quick trip from Maui and loved our stay! This is in a good middle point of the island so easy to get to both sides. The place is nicely furnished with everything you’ll need in the unit and for a great beach day. The complex had 3 pools and 2 hot tubs to soak in after a good hike. Check in went smoothly at the front desk. We’d definitely stay here again!

Poor customer service from owner of unit
This is not a reflection of Plantation Hale just this particular unit and the terrible way I was treated by the owner of the unit I rented. I saw other Plantation Hale units online that is in better condition. The unit is basic and outdated. There was barely full roll of toilet tissue and a 1 inch dead cockroach in the bedroom. I contacted the owner about the problem upon the first night of arrival at about 9 pm. To be fair, I wasn't aware that the owner was not local and resides in another state in a different time zone. As I described the problem to her she became agitated and accused me of mentally abusing her and causing her to suffer because I woke her up to about a bug problem. After a few minutes, she suggested I call her cleaning lady to take it up with her and continues to shout and rant at me. At this point, I decided this call was unproductive and asked about the refund policy. She said there was no refund and that I could leave anytime and she would not give me my money back. I told her I can no longer talk to her and she responded with angry "don't ever call her again". Afterwards I call VRBO customer service and filed a formal complaint on this vacation rental owner and they forwarded the details of this complaint to the owner or property manager in order to give them an opportunity to respond. To this date, I have not heard back from anyone.

The good and the bad
First the good. The bedroom furniture is very nice and the beds are comfortable. The living room and eating area are also very nice. There are two TV's and many amenities that were not previously mentioned. There are chairs (to take to the beach), boogie boards, an umbrella, beach towels and snorkel equipment. All of which was very appreciated! One of the pools was having maintenance done, but that was no big deal, there are two others to choose from and they are very nice!
Don't worry a bit about the chickens (which are everywhere), they do a great job in keeping the bug population under control. We saw very few bugs at all.
The location is really perfect as it's half way to either the north or the south shore and is very close to the airport which is nice when you're coming in late. It's also within walking distance to the Long's Drug which comes in handy when you need to purchase something quick.
Now the bad. I found the owner to be less than forthcoming with information. It would have been nice to know you must check-in at the front desk to receive your key. I was told (only after I asked) to go directly to the condo. Also, just so you know, the front desk has laundry soap and dryer sheets for sale. We didn't know this and purchased some. We left them under the bathroom sink. Hopefully, they will still be there to be used in the future. We also bought a small styrofoam cooler and left it in the closet by the kitchen.
The condo was clean except for the kitchen floor. I know it hadn't even been swept because we found someone's smashed glass phone protector on the floor. There was also a squished bug that I was never able to get off the floor and it was just plain dirty.
The cupboards still don't close. An attempt has been made on a few of them with velcro, which isn't working.
The pictures are a bit deceiving, they were staged so there's no flowers, no chocolate or coffee and no table on the lanai, which was the disappointing part. You can't eat out there unless you want to put the food on your lap, there is just a small, low table.
There was plenty of shampoo and cream rinse to last the almost two weeks we were there, but not enough paper towel, or toilet paper and there was never any bath soap. These are things you take for granted, but we had to go buy them.
All-in-all probably more good than bad, but the bad reflects a lack of interest on the part of the owner.

Nice property
Plantation Hale is a nice property in a very convenient location. There are two shopping areas with restaurants in walking distance. The beach is also a short walk away. The property has 3 pool areas, two with hot tubs and each building has its own laundry room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a good place to stay in Kauai.
We had two problems with the unit: the wifi was not working and we had to call the service provider ourselves to find out why. Molly did take care of the problem when I notified her but we had to make several calls ourselves first. Also, the unit is advertised as a queen sofa bed. It is not. There is a regular sofa in the living room and a blow up air mattress in the closet. I specifically chose this listing because I needed two separate sleeping areas. Having a mattress on the floor in the living room was not ideal.

Absolutely Idyllic!!
I stayed at the property from 8 - 13 May with my 75 year old mum and it was fantastic! To be honest, the unit could do with some TLC, but nothing that a handyman couldn't see to in a day - kitchen cupboard doors don't latch, rubbish bin is broken and has no lid and there are only 3 forks left!! But that in no way detracted from our enjoyment of the place. The beds are very comfortable as is the lounge which I slept on more than once :) It was like having a home away from home. I had been a bit concerned when I read some other reviews stating that it was noisy because it was near the main road, but I can happily say you can barely hear any noise. We hired a car and traffic jams were not an issue (you are on holiday people, relax!!) and it was nice and central to everywhere. Nice and close to the beach for walks, I couldn't say about the televisions because we didn't use them, but the internet was great. I'd have no hesitation recommending this place to anyone and would stay again in a heartbeat.

Clean, good location to travel to both north and south Kauai. Close to grocery stores, restaurants. Real good value for your money.

Excellent
We had a wonderful time during our stay. There was so much to do that we were not bored at all. Everyone
was so friendly and delightful. There were plenty of nice restaurants nearby and grocery stores and Farmer's
Markets if you prefer to eat at the condo, which we did. We enjoyed visiting with the locals and doing some
of the free things that were available.

Comfortable for a couple
We were pleased with the accommodations and the location was just great. The north Shore and South Shore were accessible. Kauai is a place to enjoy the outdoor activities and therefore stay inside was not important. Kapaa area provides good eateries, particularly check out Kauai Pasta. The hotels across the street provide easy evening opportunities. The suite is nothing special but suits the purpose.

Good location. Clean. "No frills" place w/small pool; 2 double beds, 1 Q sofa bed. Kitchen OK.
Good location - between North and South beaches. No swimming beaches nearby. Need a car for sure. Close to grocery stores and small marketplace. Short path to beach. Two double beds - comfortable but small. One queen sofa bed, but no pillows. Slow Wi-Fi, but adequate. Only one tiny bar of soap in bathroom for the week, so bring soap and shampoo. Kitchen has no hot pads, baking sheet, or good knives. One bathroom sink drained slowly. One kitchen cupboard would not close. But price was reasonable for those who just need a place to be at night. Owner responded promptly to email and questions.

Almost perfet!
This is really a perfect location to explore the island. About 40 minutes to go to the North Shore and about 40 minutes to Poipu in the South. We found everything in the unit that we needed. The only downside was that the phone was not working the entire time we were there which was very inconvenient. I informed the owner about this when we arrived and she had the caretaker of the unit drop off a new phone. This new phone didn't work either however and I informed the owner about that but nothing happened. The issue never got resolved until we left which was really annoying. Also the fan in the bedroom did not work when the light was off. I also informed the owner about this but she didn't know how to fix it. On the very last day when we saw the caretaker in person for the first time she showed us how to fix the problem. I wish the owner had put us in touch with the caretaker earlier so that my wife could have slept well for the 3 weeks we stayed there. The aircon is very loud so that was no alternative either. Aside from these two inconveniences and the missing support from the owner everything was great. There is Safeway and Foodland nearby and lots of restaurants in town (Kapaa). Lydgate Park for swimming is 5 minutes away. It's like paradise. Check out the farmer's markets on the island they are fun. There is great hiking in Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast. Also Kayaking Wailua river is great fun. The reception desk was also very friendly. Assuming that the invonveniences we experienced have been resolved I would definitely highly recommend this place and stay there again.

Nice family condo
We are a family of four: two adults and two children. The condo was in good condition: clean and everything was in order. The bathroom could use a bit of a refresh, but all in all, it is a very good price/quality ratio.
It is also conveniently located on the island. There are good restaurants nearby and the Coconut grove market, as well as the fruit market are at walking distance. If you like good cakes, you should pay a visit to Cakes by Kristin (www.cakesbykristin.com), they make the most wonderful lilikoi cake!
Kauai is a beautiful island, especially if you are more adventurous. The vistas are breathtaking, especially the canyon.
We enjoyed our stay at this condo and would recommend it.

Pleasant and convenient week stay
This was a comfortable place for our restful week-long vacation. The location was conveniently located so that we had easy access in exploring the rest of the island. Every morning, we took advantage of the five minute walk to the beach. The beds were very comfortable and we slept very well during our stay. The kitchen was a bit older, but had all necessities that we needed.
Owner was very friendly and helpful. We would definitely recommend this place.

Very Disappointed
I am a very frequent traveler and did not expect what we got. My Mom and I were there for the wedding of my daughter. The pictures on line were deceiving and the unit was well used and pretty beat up. Cleanliness was poor to fair at best. The ceiling fans were in awful condition and you could see on the ceiling where the dirt had been lifted from the fans. The "lanai" is not really such - you are in a dingy concrete area that is not clean. The screens on the door are ripped and beat up. We ended up with a mouse or mice ( not sure ) in the unit the entire time. The owner was responsive however and immediately had mouse trap paper laid down. We never did catch the mouse, but the sticky paper that was supposed to catch them ended up getting moved. Don't know how that happened - but it did. We finally located the remote for the TV on Day 4 when we moved the couch to try and get the mouse out with a broom handle. The TV is not operable without the remote and the owner was in the process of getting a new remote when this happened. The bathroom is another story. The shower is horrible and has peeling paint and rusted fixtures. It smells sour - most likely from the shower curtain. The towels were stained and one even had a large hole ripped in it. The sink did not drain well and there was some brown stain in the corner which we cleaned ourselves. The carpet also had a large stain when we arrived and we cleaned it also. Baseboards, walls, and switches looked like they had not been cleaned in years. On the positive side, the unit was close to beach, walking to Starbucks, and relatively quiet when we stayed there. The beds were comfortable and we tried to get out of the room as much as possible due to the rest of the place. If a mouse running around doesn't bother you, you will be able to sleep. I do have a lot of pictures we took if anyone is interested in advance. I also asked the owner for a refund on Day 3, but that was not an option in seemed. I would definitely not stay here again and I would not recommend it. I would pay more to stay in a place that was cleaner and more updated. Bottom line: You get what you pay for usually. This was a stretch for even that, but just be forewarned. I don't know how these other reviewers could be blind but everyone has their opinion.

Very cosy; close to many amenities
My wife and I enjoyed the stay at Molly's Plantation Hale unit! Very well appointed with the necessary items to maximize our enjoyment! Molly was very courteous and helped us with a few utensils to make our stay pleasant. I was surprised just how well Plantation Hale was run. The staff were awesome and were able to make sure we were well taken care of. There were 3 pool areas to enjoy and most of the time we had the whole pool area to ourselves :)
What is very nice about Plantation Hale is that it is very close to the beach (less than 3 min walk!); Because of its proximity we were able to walk every morning to the beach to enjoy the sunrise and then walk on over to Kapaa Village to get a nice Starbucks coffee! What an awesome way to start the day off right.
The kitchen was my wife's favourite part! Since we were there for a good long time, we were able to cook all but one of our meals at the suite. Kapaa has an excellent farmer's market every Wednesday. We got a lot of veggies and fruit there. A trip or two to the Costco in Lihue complemented our farmer's market visits with more long term supplies like bottled water and cereal.
I would definitely spend my next vacation at Plantation Hale and Molly has been such an excellent host. Communication with her was great and she got back to us right away :)
Thanks again, Molly! It was a pleasure.

Perfect place for our vacation with daughters
From the moment I contacted the owner, she was quick to respond and via phone, email and the Internet, our accommodations were set. Booking and payment was a very easy process which is very important to me. The condo is located in a very central place, registration staff provided great customer service, secure building and parking, it was nicely decorated and had the comforts of home. Finding something that fit all of us and was close to everything - Foodland, Safeway, Starbucks, Longs, restaurants/fast food and most importantly, THE BEACH - was a bonus!
I highly recommend Molly's condo to anyone who wants a nice condo for their vacation.

Perfect spot!
We stayed at Molly's unit at Plantation Hale for 7 nights. It was the perfect spot from which to explore Kauai! We loved being able to take day trips anywhere on the island, being situated about 40 minutes from both the north shore and the south.
The condo was clean, comfortable, well equipped with everything we needed, and could easily have accommodated 2 couples or a family. It is tastefully decorated and the flat screen tv and AC are great touches.
Wailua and Kapaa are home to some of the best (and more affordable) restaurants on the island, so we loved coming back here most evenings. Don't miss Hukilau Lanai (next to Plantation Hale) for dinner and Tiki Tacos for lunch! We also made use of the full kitchen and the BBQ's by the pool to cook for ourselves, and were happy to find a Foodland just down the street.
The beach across from plantation Hale is nice, especially for sunrise, but we found we were often exploring other parts of the island and didn't spend much time there. The few times we did wander down it was remarkably uncrowded (sometimes we had the beach to ourselves), which was nice!
Booking with Molly was a breeze, and the welcome coffee, chocolates & champagne were a lovely treat! Thanks for everything Molly, we hope to be back soon and would definitely stay here again!!
