About this house rental
*Back after longterm renting!!!*
Built in 2002, this all log structure features all the comforts of a home, but we call it a cottage as it sits lakeside, is decorated with life's comforts in mind, and offers the serenity of lake-life with ocean access nearby. Enjoy a morning fishing or kayaking/SUPing, then hop in the lake that reaches 80 degrees by mid-July. For the more adventuresome, bring a boat for sailing, waterskiing, or just a cruise up and down this 12 mile long lake. Our place is at the narrow end, a mile above the dam that separates the lake from the Damariscotta River and offers low boat traffic, great fishing, and a dock location where you can enter and exit the lake in about 6-8 feet of water. Come enjoy this piece of paradise offering kayaks, SUPs, a canoe, private dock, and float you can swim to. At day's end, return to the peace and quiet of your 3 bedroom log home with a screened-in porch spanning the width of the cottage and extending 14 feet toward the lake added in 2012. Rain or Shine, this is the place to be. Oh, and don't forget those cool Maine evenings where you can enjoy a blanket mid-summer! If that's not enough for you, the quaint town of Damariscotta is only 5 miles away and offers boutique shopping, great restaurant options, a full service grocery store and a place or two to grab a cocktail!

Had a great time with the whole family, kids 10-16 yo. Very quiet beautiful seeing. Clear lake water. Ready water access. Few motor boats passing by. Plenty of paddle boards, kayaks and canoe. The flatting trampoline was a hit. Easy access to town (less than 10 minutes), the fish ladder and seaside parks.
Chap, the owner, was pleasure to work with.

We really enjoyed our 2 weeks at the Nest. Spent so much of our time in the newly repaired screened porch listening to the loons, owls and other birds. The cabin had everything we needed. Chap was very responsive to anything we needed. He even brought a big lobster cooker over a couple of times. We loved that he took us out on his pontoon boat. The kitchen is small but it worked for us. Those staying upstairs really appreciated the a/c units as it was warm. It’s a short walk to the lake where we enjoyed the kayaks and floats. Water was warmer than we expected for Maine. Nice remote location but still close to quaint towns and Boothbay. Thanks for a wonderful relaxing stay.

The house was absolutely beautiful, spotless, and so relaxing located up a short path from the lake. We chose this lake because it is 10 miles long and we rented a ski boat for swimming and water skiing. The home was incredibly stocked with any gadget you could dream of wanting, in addition to a fabulous gas grill. We would relax each morning, and then head out to the lake for paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming and enjoying all the toys the owner provided including a water trampoline. For all of us, the best feature was the lovely screened in porch overlooking the lake. We would eat dinner here and enjoy sitting around relaxing with the view. Each evening we laughed our heads off with the many games that were provided in the closet. Town is very accessible for restaurants and food shopping. Best of all were the loons on the lake with their plaintiff cries, an incredible huge owl that flew in on a branch near the house, and a deer we spotted running across the path. It is a wonderful home to spend fun, relaxing family time, and we all loved the experience.

Our family of 5 had an amazing time at the Loon's Nest. We enjoyed all of the available activities. We kayaked, paddle boarded and our children especially enjoyed the water trampoline and the large floats in the water. The cabin is roomy and clean and the screened in porch was nice for having dinner on and playing games at night. Our family cannot wait to go back again!

It was August, the lakes healing, warm waters invited us every morning and afternoon to climb off the well equipped for sunning and swimming dock. Good thing too, because the view from the house and the lodging were so perfectly designed that it was hard leaving the comfy leather couches or the lounges on the screened in porch. We were even able to have a fire a few nights in the well designed fire place with a hearty stack of wood to burn, too. We come back every year and this year was a bit more social than our usual stay - the house accommodated gratiously as did the sourrounding areas of Maine to discover, especially the Farm Markets (with fresh, just picked strawberries, home made dilly beans and the cheeses). Our guests were most impressed! Our host was most gratious and easily responsive when we needed to contact them about a situation. The house was so clean it still looks new. Highly recommended Home away!

We have stayed at The Loon's nest for a number of years now. Every year the cabin is ready for us - clean and a welcome start to a wonderful week in Maine. Chap Kistler is always terrific about letting us know if there are any issues to be aware of- there was some very minimal water dripping in the bathroom this year - but he warned us about it before hand and had already called the plumber to take care of it. We always appreciate having a heads up and knowing that he is on top of taking care of the place. We only wish there was WiFi for the times you need to keep in touch or stay connected before or after a day of fun. Cell service and internet connection via mobile phone is tough and spotty in rural Maine. We'll be back again next summer for sure - the best rental cabin on Damariscotta Lake!

We love this place! Whenever we're here we feel calm and relaxed. The tranquility of the Lion's nest helps us regroup and center ourselves from the hecticness of the outside world.

We have been coming here for a long time now and wouldn't have it any other way! The Loon's Nest is a wonderful place to go to relax and rejuvenate! There is so many things to see and do in the surrounding areas or you can be just as content relaxing on the deck or sitting on the porch listening to the loon's and other sounds of the woods! There's so much to do in the area that we would love to stay two weeks instead of just one!

We loved our vacation on the lake! Our family comes every year and haven't been disappointed yet! It's a great way to start our summer season. The area is beautiful with lots of sight-seeing and adventuring to do if interested. We could even be quite content to stay at The Nest, sitting on the dock and kayaking on the lake all day. Area restaurants are fabulous and everyone is as friendly as can be. Wonderful family memories!

What a great place to unwind and relax! The peacefulness of the screened-in deck overlooking the lake with birds chirping and loons calling is unmatched. With Pemaquid Point nearby, the wonderful stores in Damariscotta to shop in, the Hardy Boat out of New Harbor to see the puffins and seals and Monhegan, the great eating places all around like King Eider's Pub, The Cupboard Cafe, Muscongus Bay Lobster Pound and Round Top Ice Cream, it's a miracle that I ever dragged myself away to come home! I didn't even get to some of my usual places this time like Camden Harbor or the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath or the hiking trail at Dodge Point! Chap and Kim obviously take great pride in providing top-flight accommodations in the woods of Maine for others to enjoy what they have enjoyed for so many years -- a place that is clean, well-managed and certainly well cared for. If you want fun and relaxation in a comfortable home away from home, you can't do better than the Nest!

The Loon's Nest is just about the perfect Maine Lakehouse. The house is very well appointed. These are the best beds I've ever had at a VRBO rental, with a great comfortable couch, huge Samsung TV, and even the furniture on the screened in porch was great. My family and I come to Maine for a week every summer, and have come to Lake Damariscotta for three years in a row, and this is the best house we've had. The owner was great, the setting was very private, and this is one of the best lakes in Maine. You can't go wrong here.
