About this cottage rental
Little Thumb sits on the water's edge on Damariscotta Lake, under pine and oak trees. Blueberry bushes line the shore. It is surrounded by water on three sides and looks south down the long part of the lake. The cove to the east is a favorite feeding place for heron, osprey, and bald eagles. Dangle your feet off the private dock, and watch ducks paddle by. Let the loons lull you to sleep.
We offer weekly rentals during the summer. We offer longer and shorter stays in the shoulder seasons. This is a seasonal cabin and is not available during the winter months.
The kitchen, bathroom, and bedrooms have been totally remodeled. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, and center island. The bathroom has a washer and dryer. The living room has a propane stove and full views of the lake. There are two bedrooms with blankets, pillows, and quilts provided. Sheets and bath towels are standard. Please bring your own swim towels.
We have a Webber charcoal grill and grill tools. We have a stone fire pit and grate.
The cabin sits on an island which is now attached to the east side of Damariscotta Lake by a causeway. A wetland has grown up beside it. There are only about 10 houses and it feels very private.
Walk or bike along the dirt roads. Kayak or canoe from the dock. Fish in the cove. Or just relax and enjoy the views.
Swim right off our dock. The water off the dock is often too shallow for diving. It is deeper by the swim float. The lake water level will vary. You can swim to the float or paddle there from the dock.
We keep two kayaks at the cottage, a 14' Necky Manitou and a 13.5' Perception Catalina, plus two paddles, and life vests. You may bring your own kayaks too. Plus you can rent kayaks, canoes, or paddle boards and have them delivered. Please let the life vests drip outside before bringing them inside.
If you wish to rent additional kayaks or a canoe you can make arrangements with MidCoast Kayak in Damariscotta. They will deliver and pick up right from the cottage.
There is a sand beach at Damariscotta Lake State Park, 10 minutes from the cottage.
There is a sand beach and ocean swimming at Pemaquid Beach in New Harbor, about a 1/2 hr from the cottage.
We have a private well so you do not need to bring bottled water to drink or cook with.
Sheet sizes: We have one queen-sized bed and a two of twins beds.

The spot on the lake couldn't be beat. The location is beautiful and the house is clean and cozy. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars because one of the reasons we rented it was to use the kayaks and one has a broken seat, which meant we couldn't go out together.

We keep coming back to this beautiful and well maintained cottage. Very peaceful. Great location.

We could not have been more lucky to stay at Little Thumb! The view of the water is just unbeatable. We spent most of our time outside swimming, kayaking, around the bonfire, on the dock, or out in nature somewhere else. The kitchen is well stocked and the beds were very comfortable, perfect for our family of three. Highly recommend the swimming hole near Damariscotta Mills for young children - went went twice! We enjoyed our stay very much and hope to return.

Natalie's property is very cozy, comfortable and the perfect vibe for this location on Damariscotta Lake. decor is cheerful and colorful, and the cottage has all the needed appliances and extras, like oil/spices for cooking. kayaks are available, which is a nice feature, also a dock for those who have watercraft to get around the lake. A perfect vacation spot! Natalie is a wonderful host!

Our family had a great time. The lake is beautiful. Fishing from the dock until dark! The cottage is gorgeous and relaxing. If you want to “not think” and relax, this is the place to do it.

Worthy of Maine Cabin Masters. The most tasteful ly decorated cabin we’ve been in so far.

We enjoyed a delightful Memorial Day weekend at Natalie's cottage. The indoor space was just as beautiful as promised, with views of the water from three sides! The location was remarkable: near a couple of other cottages but on the edge of an quiet cove. Aside from a couple of passing fishing boats, we had the area almost entirely to ourselves . . . plus the ducks, loons, and osprey. Songbirds filled the treetops, the stars at night were brilliant. Mitch at Midcoast Kayak delivered our canoe early and exactly as specified. And Natalie's welcome and communications were all top-notch. Many thanks!

Better than I imagined-- the pictures were accurate, but the cabin is way nicer once you see it. You can tell that quite a bit was done on it recently.
Natalie thanks!! Going there off season was sooo peaceful and being on a huge lake sitting out on the deck was a wonderful plus.

The property was wonderful. It was extremely quiet and relaxing. We were able to have a couple of fires in the fire pit before the rain came in. It was great relaxing by the gas fireplace while looking at the autumn leaves and listening to the rain. There was so much interesting bird activity on the lake too. I only wish there had been a pair of binoculars there to observe them closer. Overall, it was very nice. Attention to details and comfort was exemplary. Thank you Natalie for sharing your wonderful abode!

We have never stayed at the cottage in the fall before. Beautiful and quiet time for our stay. Loved seeing the Pumpkin Festival in Damariscotta.

We had a positively wonderful time this weekend! It was so quiet and peaceful here. We heard loons, a cormorant, beavers hard at work, geese and we watched an eagle fly overhead.
The cottage is charming, the kitchen easy to work in and the bed was SO comfortable! We slept so well.
Thank you for a wonderful visit, we hope to come again!

Little Green Thumb was close to many attractions and restaurants while offering the amenities of a quiet oasis by the lake.

This year was my fourth year staying at Little Thumb and it was wonderful, as usual. I love being on the lake, swimming, relaxing, reading..

We had excellent weather all week which made it more wonderful than ever!!
I have been to this cabin at least 6 times.
There is only one other visible house.
The new propane fireplace made the house very cozy and the warmth was needed. I love the room darkening shades! My loving partner made the stay special!! The location was perfect!!
It is a very comfortable place to stay.
God willing, I will be back next year.
The front door key does not seem to work well.

Very nice lake cottage, secluded cove with lots of waterfowl , fish and birds. Nicely equipped kitchen. Everything we needed. Beds reasonably comfortable. Brought own sheets and towels as I did not want to do wash at end of our stay.

Sometimes you dread to see a vacation come to an end. Sometimes you REALLY wish you could stay even longer. This was one of those vacations.
Cottage on "Little Thumb" isn’t a place to stay, it’s a place to unwind. One can get anything they want out of their time here. The host provided everything needed and the cottage itself said "Welcome back!" every time we opened the stained-glass front door. The dock gave us the chance to laze away a sunny day, after awaking to the loons calling one another through the foggy mist earlier that morning. We believed the same loons to be present and calling as we were fortunate to watch the full moon rise over the Damariscotta Lake during our stay. The enclosed porch was a perfect place to sit and read one rainy afternoon. Chipmunks, hummingbirds, woodpeckers, cedar waxwings and even a couple of muskrats were additional treats.
The cottage is conveniently located to anything needed or wanted but is tucked away enough to provide you with your own sense of space. We enjoyed our time and hope to return in the near future.

We had a great time staying on the lake. It was nice and quiet and the kids caught fish right off the dock. The cottage was spacious and well equipped. Exactly as advertised. We can’t wait to return.

Beautiful views of the lake full of singing loons and the occasional bald eagle. Wonderful stay with the family.

We had a very nice stay. Damariscotta is a cute town with nice restaurants.

The camp was cozy and comfortable, very private and quiet. Our only issue was with the trash and checkout. To get the linens washed, trash taken to the transfer station, clean counters, etc., pack up and get out by 10 was challenging. Making checkout at 11 would be a big help. We loved having the washer and dryer, overall we loved it!

The cabin was exactly as it was described. My friend and I spent a very quiet week decompressing from a long school year. She fished every day and I kayaked every day. Even on cold & rainy days, we enjoyed turning on the gas fireplace and watching a movie, reading a book, or napping. Everything we needed to cook or stay at the cabin was available. We didn't leave the cabin for two days...:-). Very lovely and quiet vacation.

PS: The sound of the loons and the fresh air in the cabin are a bonus.

Fabulous location directly on clean, quiet, secluded lake! The cabin is clean, well equipped with everything you need, comfortable! Beautiful lake views from every window! Perfect spot to enjoy peaceful lake time, but not to far from local coastal towns like Damariscotta, Rockland, BarHarbor & Camden for shopping, restaurants & boating/sightseeing adventures! The whole experience is spectacular!

Summary: Design is great but Function is lacking—(1) cabin should be properly cleaned and prepared for guests' arrival, (2) working remotely is a concern with the poor wifi, and (3) the listing should clearly express that the dock is not always available, due to the dock not being a fully floating dock.
The Good: Cabin is lovely, location is great, beds were comfortable, and it was quiet during our stay.
The Not-So-Good: Prior to arriving, the host messaged to say that the cleaners had not had time to clean the windows and floors (although we booked 7 months in advance). After 14 hours of travel, we were excited to sit on the dock and enjoy the evening; however, the dock was in pieces in the backyard. We messaged the host and she stated that the water level was currently too high for the dock to be put in; over the next few days, we inquired again about the dock (since we noticed other docks in the lake) but the host said that she didn't have a fully floating dock. Finally, on Thursday evening, someone showed up to put the dock in the water so we were able to enjoy the dock for one full day (rather than the six that we had planned for). Overall, it seemed as if the cabin sat empty all winter and wasn't cleaned and prepared for our arrival. On the night we arrived, in addition to the lack of a dock, the picnic table and fire pit were covered with tarps and we had to search for the outdoor chairs. Although it was easy to locate the kayaks and paddles, we could not locate the life vests; a search of the cabin, shed, and outdoor spaces yielded no results. Finally, I checked the storage space in the cabin (a sort of small attic) and found the life jackets there. As the host stated, the windows and floors were not in great shape; however, the rest of the cabin didn't fare much better—we had to scrub the coffeepot, microwave, and dishes before use. Also, the listing indicates reliable, fast internet but we were unable to work using the wifi; we would wait several minutes for a page to load with no success. We traveled into town to work at a coffee shop a few days and, when working at the cabin, I used my data.

Nice little cottage with everything you need. Sunsets are awesome with the sun beaming on the fall colors reflecting off the lake, it was like the woods were on fire. Lots of places to go that are only a short drive and then back to a peaceful cottage.

It was private and perfect!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at lake edge in this well-equipped, lovely cabin. We kayaked, watched loons and herons, and walked the island roads. Well located for exploring the Mid-coast.

We are 3 long-term (40+ years) friends looking to find a good place and a few days to spend some precious time together. Here we found the perfect place. It was cozy, comfortable and well appointed. Conveniently located on a secluded road in a beautiful spot on the Lake. We loved our time together here.

I have been at the property a good 10 times. It is my favorite summer escape. There is profound quiet here!!!
The property is simple but absolutely perfect!!!

After losing both my parents (my son’s grandparents) this past year, we decided a trip to Lake Damariscotta together would do us good. As the summer was booked, but fall is typically not an option due to work and school, our host worked with us in finding an extended weekend in the “shoulder” season. The cottage is a true, elegant, lake cottage.

Beautiful lakefront location. Very quiet.
Property is well maintained. Owner is very attentive. Can’t wait to go back!

Little Thumb is a lovely cottage right on Lake Damariscotta, a wonderful, big lake. Lots of swimming, kayaking and sitting on the dock enjoying the view. And there is a lot to visit in the area: beaches, walks, fun towns, art exhibits... This was my third year renting Little Thumb and I was very happy with it. Natalie, the owner, is very friendly and helpful. I plan to rent again next summer.

This is our second stay at the property. We love the location and the house is very comfortable. Very grateful for extra fans, as the air near the lake is pretty still.

Impeccably maintained cottage right on the lake. A quiet spot for the most part with easy access to amenities in Damariscotta.
