About this house rental
3 blocks to H St. or Union Market and 5 blocks to Red Line Metro. We are close to all that Capitol Hill and the H Street Corridor have to offer.
Our home is nearly 120 years old, but we have lovingly restored it without gutting the charm out of it. You'll find all the modern amenities in a classic wrapper. Combining marble, glass, granite, stainless, original hearts of pine wood flooring to create warm and beautiful spaces. Stay in a piece of history in a city steeped in history.
Guests will have the run of the main home on floors 1 and 2 (there is a separate apartment on the garden level that is used by me and my family on occasion). The home has 3 bedrooms upstairs (All 3 with Queen Beds) and one queen sofa Sleeper on the first floor. It also has two full baths. Finally, it has 3 Flat Screen TVs. One 46" big screen TV in the 1st floor living room and a 2nd 46" in the Master Bedroom. Both also have Blue Ray/DVD players. And then we also have a 32" flat screen in the 2nd biggest Bedroom. All 3 of those TVs feature Verizon FIOS Cable TV. We also have FIOS high speed broadband wireless internet, a fully equipped kitchen, and outdoor deck and patio with a propane gas grill.
We are close to everything in Capitol Hill monument and museum-wise ...either by the Red Line Metro (subway), by bus, or by car. (You don't really need a car, thanks to the various public transportation options, including the Capitol Bike Share system). There is a bus line on Florida Ave. 1/2 block away and on K St. two blocks south. H St. is full of cool bars and restaurants and is only 4 blocks away but far enough to avoid the noise and the crowds (it happens to have a free trolley car running east and west on H St. too). Also, Union Market (2 blocks away) is a great place to hang out, get coffee, fantastic Gelato, fresh bread, fish, meat, vegetables, and fabulous gourmet cheese. The wine selection and prices at the Italian specialty store Litteri 1 1/2 blocks away is fantastic! I will also provide a more comprehensive set of restaurant recommendations upon booking.
The Red Line Metro (DC's subway) is only 5 blocks west, Bus lines at Florida Ave. (1/2 block away), K St. 2 blocks south, or H St. 4 blocks south. Convenient to Balt/Wash Parkway, Rt. 295, and Rt. 395.
We can interact as much as our guests would like to interact with us. We have a second home about an hour away and a guest apartment below the home that we sometimes stay in. If we are there we can interact personally if the guests would like to. Otherwise we are quite responsive to text/email/phone for questions and/or advice. English is our native tongue, but between us we speak French, German and a bit of Spanish. We love showing off our city and the many sights, sounds, and aromas you can find in it. Let us help you plan a day according to your likes, interests, and the amount of time you have available.
We'd like people to treat our home as if it were their own...be comfortable, but respectful. Absolutely NO Smoking is allowed in on our home please and NO pets of any kind. You may smoke on the back patio if you need to. Our severely autistic child is deathly allergic to cigarette smoke and dog dander/hair. Please, Please, Please, DO NOT SMOKE ANYTHING in Our Home. Security deposit funds will be used to professionally clean our home if you smoke in it. Thank you in advance for respecting this rule :)
Check-in is at 4pm and Check-out is at 11am.

We went on a family trip to see the sites of DC. We ended up having to drive to the metro everyday but once we got there(only a 9 min drive to Union station) it was easy. Parking at the house is definitely challenging but by day 4 I was able to get used to it.We used Spothero for parking our 2nd vehicle. The 1st location was 1544 Marion St. and was a nightmare. Terrible customer service and no open spots. Then after many unanswered phone calls, they were texting with me. Asking for pictures of the vehicles parked in the wrong spots. It took almost an extra hour to find another parking spot.We ended up at 524 Rhode Island & it was great. So definitely stay away from the Marion St. Address as its a alleyway and terrible for parking. Back to the house, it was nice. The kitchen could defintely use some updated pots, pans, skillets etc. The skillets were terrible and we definitely had to rethink our meal plans after seeing the inventory we had to work with. More bathroom towels also would be helpful. The biggest complaint we all had (there was 8 of us) was the STAIRS! The wooden stairs were so loud to walk up and down. No matter how big or small you are, there was no quiet way to go up and down without waking people up. By day 2, we were trying to limit going up and down to avoid the noise. The 8 of us fit comfortably in the house. There was plenty of sleeping space (we brought an air mattress also so all the teens could sleep in 1 room).Overall, it was a nice trip & home.

We enjoyed our stay! It was a safe and clean place. Greg was very attentive and responded to all of our questions and concerns quickly! If we ever visit DC again this is where we want to be! Thanks Greg!!

We loved being able to walk to the national mall as well as buy groceries for our stay from this location. The place was clean and homey. Greg was great to communicate with and responded quickly to some tourist questions we had. We would definitely recommend this VRBO to family and friends. The only tricky part was the parking, but that pretty much goes with any big city.

I am wondering if you would be willing to
Have a journal for guests to sign in? We loved the Taco place right on the corner. (Far east taco) the metro is less than a mile. The heat in the house is funky. So we were hot upstairs and cold in the kitchen. This is typical in an older house. Very resonantly priced for a family of 5. I would have liked to have some type of spray to clean the counters, specifically for the stone. My highlights separate from the house was the Holocaust museum and the Spy museum. Joan

Historic home in NE DC. Well stocked with all the essentials. The nearby H St and Union Market entertainment districts have been revitalized. The house is 10-20 min walk to Metro, coffee, restaurants, etc..

We had a great time staying at this old house. Our host, Greg, could not have been more accommodating and made sure we could contact him for anything.
The kitchen was more than adequately stocked and Greg provided high quality coffee, spices and condiments.
We had a 4 yr old who loved the kid’s easy chair and all of the games provided.
The beds were comfortable.
Everything was very clean.
We will definitely stay here on our next visit to DC.

Love the house! Greg is easy to deal with and extremely helpful.

Really nice and convinient place to visit Washington. We were able to do everything with public transportation from the house.
Confortable house for our 3 days stay, with clear and detailled explanation of Greg really helpful for shops and restaurants in the neighborhood.

This house was a perfect fit for our group of pssychologist students presenting research at a convention. The rooms were relaxing and the ceiling hooks were intriguing! We loved our stay and the host was wonderfully responsive and helpful.

This home is well kept and worked great for our family with teens & a tween. The location was perfect for visiting the city and we utilized the capitol bikeshare system frequently. Wonderful to have a parking space that was off street parking and the home is so close to Trader Joes and Whole Foods - walked to both! We appreciated Greg's communication when needed and all his recommendations of how to get around and where to go. The neighborhood could be noisy at night but it was also the week of July 4th. :-) The noise did not interfere with our stay, and we were looking for a property in DC and close to all the places we wanted to visit so that is what we expected. The home felt very secure and there were lots of games and things to do already there so we would not have needed to bring any board/card games along. A great find in DC!

This vrbo provided the perfect vacation spot for a grandkid trip to Washington DC. The location made it easy to connect by Metro to all the sites we wanted to see. The layout of the house, amenities and neighborhood met or exceeded our expectations. Greg was quick to answer all our questions From the 7 year old to the 70+ year old, we all gave it a big thumbs up.

You really need a new cleaning service. Floors, showers, kitchen countertops were all filthy. The BBQ was a fire Hazzard due to grease. I expected better as a preferred provider.

Worked well for our group of 8

Poor . My stay was 5-3-23 through 5-9-23. I was put out on 5-9, although i should have been allowed to stay the night of 5-9-23.
Was accused of smoking in the house, but only smoked in. The bacyyard.

The owner is very responsive; the house is old but in reasonably good shape; there is a private parking, a plus for the neighborhood; the amenitys, like kitchen and bath supplies, are adequate; the location is near grocery stores, resturants, the metro and shopping. It can get a little noisy in the night as street noise from nearby Florida Ave does penetrate through the windows. For our DC trip in which we spent the greater part of 7 days, in the area of the National Mall, the house worked extremely well. The Metro is very efficent and approximately 1/4 to 1/2 mile away. My first VRBO experience was positive!
4.7
Busy city setting for this home. Expect city noises and activity. There was a smoke (cigarette) smell in the front upstairs room and living room, perhaps from the building next door. Other than that, the house is clean with linens supplied. Thank you!

Our family enjoyed a great experience in DC. The row house is conveniently situated, close to the Metro Line, a Trader Joe's Market, Union Market and a beautiful campus for Gallaudet University. The home itself exudes history, with lovely brick, beautiful wood floors and vintage staircase. If only the house could talk; I'm sure would share many stories.
4.7
Location was excellent with a 10 minute walk to the Metro and reasonably quiet streets. Living room was super comfortable for 4 adults and 3 teenagers. Kitchen appliances were very nice but could have used some cooking utensils and other accessories. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would rent again!
4.7
Superb communication and instructions from host. Kitchen well stocked with little extras. The only surprises were positive:)

I stayed here with my husband and and 3 kids. There was plenty of room for all of us. In fact, there was a couch in the living room that we never used because the other 2 couches and chair fit us just fine. The dining room seats 8 people. The kitchen is well-appointed. The washer/dryer was a life saver! The property looks like a historic house and the flooring is hardwood like a historic house, but the plumbing is not historic- it works great! The bedding was very comfortable. There is a Giant Supermarket close by that you can buy your groceries from and if you're driving in, there is a parking garage off of 3rd Street for your groceries. Speaking of parking spot, this place comes with 1 spot that is directly behind the house. Now, the owner said that he is able to park his minivan there, but it is a tight squeeze. I will say that I agree, but with prayer, my husband, and the many criticisms from my kids, we were able to fit a Yukon there and down the little alley that runs to the next street south. The neighborhood is safe and we had no concern the entire time. We either walked the 15 minutes to the Redline Metro for NoMa-Galludet Station, or we took an UberXL (there are 5 of us). I had a difficult time prior to this vacation trying to figure out how I would get us to the sites and back again, but I used an app called City Mapper and that helped a ton! Also, the owner has some books and one of them is a 2016 Fodor's DC book and the map on the back page certainly helped me plan too with regards to which Metro station I would want to go to! The owner also keeps maps from museums, etc and that is helpful because if you wait to get a map until you go to one of the Smithsonian museums, they will want a $1 donation. Also, the owner has a Giant Grocery Store rewards card and 5 Smart Trip cards (for the Metro and Metro Bus) and most of the cards already had some money on it. This place is a great find! We spent $200 on groceries and that bought us 4 big dinners and that was so much better than the $75 we spent on 1 lunch at a museum that didn't even include drinks! Also, before grocery shopping, check out to see what is already at the house as it was fully stocked with certain items that we didn't need to buy. Overall, fantastic place and I think that we had 1 minor issue, but the owner got back to me really fast and it was resolved! Great place, great owner, great time. Pick this one!

All seniors, on family get together. Location a bit on the noisy side for us. Helicopters flying over at night are quite frequent. Sirens going off also.
Grand old lady of a house, accomodated our group well. Everything worked.
4.7
Lovely location however did not start off well as we were given the wrong key code (on my knees in the dark and rain!) Finally got in after calling owner. Cockroach on floor of a very disorganized kitchen. Sofa bed was comfortable but took 2 people to pull out. Shall I go on?

The house is in a fabulous location. If you are most interested in a convenient location, a clean house and a decent bed, this house is perfect. It is also very spacious. It is easy walking distance to Union Market and the H St. Corridor.
The downsides are that it is very loud at night because it's so close to Florida Avenue, a busy corridor at all hours. If you are not used to city noise, be prepared. Also it has not been renovated (except apparently the kitchen and bathrooms) in a very long time so is pretty worn out. Furnishings and decor are a mismatch of oddities. It is truly a historic building but it isn't historic in a charming way.
The outside of the house needs a good power washing to get rid of cobwebs and such but it has great curb appeal.
The owner was very responsive and easy to deal with.

Stayed at this lovely home along the H Street corridor for family vacation. Location was great - walkable to Metro and bus and able to get anywhere in the city. Enjoyed a couple of restaurants at Union Market. Host was great. Plenty of communication and recommendations. My only suggestion is that the home needed wine glasses and kitchen dish towels! Hardly earth shattering and did not impact our time but would make it even better for the next group.

Our 5 day stay with 5 grandkids was wonderful. The house was close to downtown. We used Uber XL. This 118 year old row house is charming. Could use a little upkeep. We had a great time.

Great space for our needs. With 8 of us we loved having run of the house. Union Market was so close as was the free H Street Trolley. The owner was very responsive and helpful.

Girls Trip
It was a beautiful home, conveniently located to access many forms of transportation. Walkable to several grocery stores. We had a few minor glitches with the house, but the owner was very responsive and problems were quickly solved.

This home is exactly like the photos. Very beautiful and clean. Communicating with Greg from the moment we booked this place was easy and full of awesome information. From Greg's message we knew where to eat, shop, catch the Metro and pick up the DC bikes. Greg addressed any issues we had directly and quickly . Our only critic would be doing a little front and back yard beautification/ weed cleaning. The patio set was very inviting, but all the weeds/grass around the front and back made it not inviting to sit out. Be advised there is a large dog next door that barks very loudly as you enter the house from the back.
Although we had to cut our trip short, this house met our needs to the fullest.

We came to DC for Medical reasons and Greg immediately made us feel like we had made the right choice. The house was simple, clean, but with all the amenities in a easily accessible area, groceries and dining all within walking distance. Greg made sure we we made it to town and we’re able to get in within minutes of our arrival. We parked our Kia Seltos and Ubered to Dr. appointments during the week and to the National Mall. We quickly became addicted to Far East Taco on the Corner (the Mango Love Rice Bowl with Shrimp & Elote Corn) and Litteri Italian Market at the Union (Sausage and Pepper Sub). We cannot thank Greg enough for all the support for what could have been a very difficult time. Thank you again and again!

Beautiful old house. Had no trouble parking on the street. Everything you need is supplied in the kitchen. Walking distance to Trader Joe’s and Union Market. Perfect for our family of 6.
