This place was the best!!! It was perfect for our family and the ease of access to the beach was a HUGE bonus! The house was clean and well decorated! The selection of books and DVDs were great too. We loved sitting on the deck and the deck off the master. There were also plenty of chairs for everyone in our family to borrow for the beach along with sand toys and pool toys! We will definitely stay here again!!

Everything about this cottage is first rate . The pool and hot tub only added to the satisfaction of the property. The view from the balconies every morning and evening were amazing. The house itself was well decorated to enhance the beach experience. We all had a great time again this year.

This was our second stat at Sonrise, and it was just as amazing as the first! The view can’t be beat! The home was perfect for our family of 4 and the kitchen was well stocked. The pool was great after a morning spent on the beach. The decking has been redone since our first stay, and we loved eating lunch and dinner with an ocean view…much better than you can find at most restaurants! My wife has been vacationing at the outer banks since the 1980s, and she said this home reminds her of those simpler trips with her family, and we are now making those same memories with our girls. We 100% recommend Sonrise!

The location was perfect! We could walk right over to the beach, and not worry about the 4 lane highway. The home was more than enough room for our family. There were 4 adults and 2 children for reference. The pool was awesome for the afternoons! We did less mini golf this year because the kids wanted to swim instead. Huge win!!

We were very pleased with everything at the house .The house was perfect for our needs. Pool and hot tub added to a great week at the beach. Location was excellent and hearing the waves from the ocean crash in the evenings from the balconies was an experience. All in all we had a wonderful time ! Looking forward to next time !

Where do I start? We couldn’t have asked for a better vacation. Everything was great. Susan was a pleasure to communicate with, making sure we had a memorable stay. Her house is in the perfect location convenient for everything, the beach, shopping and food. We LOVED the pool. “Sonrise” was stocked with everything we could have needed from the kitchen to, books, games and pool/beach gear.

The “Sonrise” beach house was in a great location. The beach directly across the street was a plus for us. The host was extremely helpful when an issue arose and stayed in contact with me. She wanted to make sure we were satisfied with our stay. The pool was nice and lots of beach chairs and pool toys available to use.

The place was just like the pictures & clean. A quick walk & you’re at the beach. The pool was a big hit of our stay & it was great! We had one small weather related issue & Susan was easy to reach & quick to respond. Wonderful stay!

I brought my mom who is 73 here for her fist visit to the OBX. We had the best time! The view was beautiful. The place was spotless clean. The pool was amazing!!

On arrival property was clean and in good condition. Talking to Susan informed us of great restaurants which we throughly enjoyed. We decided we could not make up our mind of what was better pool or beach so we enjoyed both. One of the best vacations we ever had thank you Mercer’s for sharing your cottage with us.

My family and I had an amazing OBX vacation at this home. Susan was super easy to work with and so friendly. The property location was exactly what we were looking for. Close to the beach and local stores just down the road. The children enjoyed time on the beach and then hours of fun in the pool. We were thrilled with how easy check in/out was. Lovely place to relax
This was our second year staying here. For our family it is the perfect size and location. We like a quiet low key beach stay and this delivers. Easy check in and out. If there is ever a issue Susan replies promptly. We will be returning next year!

A Positive Stay!
The cottage was clean and cozy. Listing is accurate regarding 500 feet from beach. Easy access for many walks on the beach and catching the sunrise! We even got a little kayaking in which was easy to do being so close to the beach. The kitchen was fully stocked. Many restaurants/bars within walking distance. Pool and jacuzzi were enjoyable. 5 minutes to Walmart to get groceries. 20 minutes to Wright Brothers Memorial and Jockeys Ridge which were both excellent! 30 minutes to Roanoke and fresh fish at ONeals! An hour to Hatteras Island. We will be back to OBX and staying here!

Great property!
This ocean view home had everything you need for a relaxing stay in OBX. Susan, the homeowner was very responsive to any questions prior to our stay. We had a beautiful week at the beach and would enjoy the pool every evening.

This was our second stay at Sonrise. Great location, so close to the beach, great pool, and close to shopping and restaurants. The property owner is always a joy to speak with and responds quickly to any communications. My family and I cannot wait to return next year and stay at Sonrise!!!

Wonderful house and location!
This was our first time using VRBO. It was a great experience! The home owner responded quickly to my questions. The house was as advertised and absolutely lovely! The pool was an positive asset. A walk across the street and we were on the beach.

Making family memories❤️
This cottage was perfect for our family vacation. We took our daughter, son-in-law and 2 granddaughters. Loved the beach decor. My granddaughter even counted items on the wall! (95). Location was convenient for the beach. Spent many hours in the lovely pool. Having several decks gave us options to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather. Cottage was well supplied with anything we needed. Owner even offered suggestions for restaurants. We would love to return someday.

Perfect beach vacation
This was the perfect beach house for our family. Where do I start? Susan the owner was amazing responding to questions before we went and after we got there. For us wanting a quieter beach vacation but yet close to restaurants etc this had both. The house has the perfect view from the many decks which was key also. The decks had amazing furniture that just were inviting and comfortable with that cup of coffee or cocktail. The inside was the perfect beach atmosphere we were looking for also. You can tell this place is loved. It has everything you need. The beds and pillows were all comfortable along with the furniture in the living area. Then to top it off there is a pool and hot tub. The pool was perfect for our little granddaughter and the hot tub was nice for my husband. I hope I haven’t forgotten anything. Thank you so much Susan for helping us making amazing memories. We are definitely returning next year!

Wonderful house for a wonderful week.
I had a week getaway with my mom and sister and we had a great time. The house was the perfect size for us. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub and the quick walk across the road to the beach. The house was clean and comfy. Susan kept in touch and made sure we got down there safe. We had one problem with a toilet and she had someone there to fix it while we were at the beach and we were never inconvenienced. The location is great as it is not as busy this far up the beach. We loved the house and will definitely stay here again.

September Sonrise Stay
Our family had a great time staying at the cottage. You could view the ocean and be there in literally seconds from the driveway! Super great location being a short 3 minutes from the grocery store. Sad we didn’t get a chance to use the beautiful pool due to cooler weather.

I want to say the owner Susan was very kind. The house location and pool was nice. I'm sorry though we will not return. All beds were extremely too hard that we unfortunately had to purchase a bed topper to be able to stay. We felt that the house could have been cleaned much more thoroughly. Deep and surface cleaning is lacking and it did feel more like a rental property. This is not intended as a negative review. These were our observations and preferences. Do not hesitate to stay in this cute beach house if those few issues are not a problem for you.

Beach theme
This beautiful home is sea shell and beach theme. Everything was perfect from the location to the home. Owners are nice and were there when needed to answer all questions. Great Pool and hot tub. Beach is within a couple feet away. The view was amazing.

I want to say the owner Susan was very kind. The house location and pool was nice. I'm sorry though we will not return. This property was perfect for our family. Great location right across the street from the beach, the pool was fantastic, and we were close to shopping and restaurants. Susan, the property manager, was wonderful to work with and always got back to me quickly. Great place to stay. We look forward to staying again next year!

Summer 2019
Sonrise was much better than the pictures showed. This was the perfect house and location for our 2 families to spend the week. A few short steps to the beach, a wonderful in ground pool and quiet neighborhood. The owners were great to work with. Answered all questions quickly. Needed to contact the owners during our stay and even though they had some personal issues going on, they were fast to answer and resolve a minor issue.
Will definitely be staying at Sonrise in the future. Loved this house and all that it offers.

Perfect location!
This home is exactly what we were looking for. It is so close to the beach and has a wonderful pool and hot tub. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. King bed, two twins and a sofa bed upstairs with jack and jill bath and queen bedroom and another bathroom downstairs. The home was very clean! It is very close to groceries stores and restaurants. We enjoyed the abundance of outdoor seating to relax on the pitches and also near the pool. There were plenty of beach chairs, boogie boards and pool floats already there. Also enjoyed using the charcoal grill. Highly recommend this rental!

Perfect Family Beach Getaway
This house was perfect for our family of five with easy access to the beach, close proximity to all of our favorite OBX restaurants, a refreshing saltwater pool, and beautiful ocean views. We absolutely loved our week at Sonshine. The owner (Susan) was attentive and friendly-great communication leading up to as well as during our stay. We would definitely want to stay here again.
We were pleasantly surprised to find many pool toys/floats, an abundance of sand toys, boogie boards, beach chairs and umbrellas, and many other child-friendly amenities throughout the home including children’s books, stuffed animals, toddler-sized forks/spoons, puzzles, a high chair, and booster seat. We did need to childproof a bit (we have 2 and 4 year old kids) by moving breakable decorations out of reach and renting a baby gate to keep the kids off the stairs. I would highly recommend renting a baby gate to anyone with small children.
All appliances were in good working order. The beds were comfortable. The house was clean, well maintained, and nicely decorated.
The negatives were very minor. 1) The covered/screened-in deck was not rainproof and water pours down through the ceiling from the top floor deck during periods of heavy rain. My husband and I enjoy watching thunderstorms, but we got rained out on the covered/screened in deck which was a bit of a bummer. 2) No Tupperware. We had brought some ziplock bags, so only a minor inconvenience. 3) I didn’t realize from the listing that the laundry was outside (off of the carport), which was really only an issue when it was raining.
We noticed that the spacing of certain pickets on the upstairs railing appear too wide (my 2 youngest kids could fit their heads through a few spots). Fortunately my children are old enough to listen to momma to not do that again. When I discussed my concerns with the owner, she indicated she would be working with the maintenance company to ensure the railing is up to code.

Sonrise and owners were spectacular
My husband and I have not been on a ‘local’ vacation in several years so I was a little skeptical about renting a house through VRBO. We searched the area we wanted for a place with the required amenities and the Sonrise Cottage was in the results. After reviewing the pictures and descriptions we both decided this fit our needs for our last vacation all together as a family (children are growing up 😞). We reached out to Susan and inquired about the home. She responded very quickly. The process was very smooth. The day we arrived the cottage was just as described not to mention clean and beautifully decorated with a perfect beach theme! There was a note waiting for us with she and Tom’s phone numbers should we have any questions or concerns. They even offered to share some great places to eat or things to do. They were very helpful.
After we returned home and unpacked my husband realized he left his prized Yeti cup (Father’s Day present) in the dishwasher after running it the night before. He contacted Susan and she mailed to cup to us right away and refused to accept payment for the postage. This was totally unexpected and unheard of in this day and time.
I would not only recommend this home to any family looking for a great place to stay in a great location, I will stay here again myself!

Family Getaway
Sonrise was awesome, it was clean, well laid out, decorated beachy, and the pool and hot tub were great. The location was the best, beach right across the street. My family from Iowa came to visit and had never seen the ocean, this house and location were spectacular for them. The house was so cozy it made you feel like home. I would definately rent this property again. Susan makes you feel very welcomed.

Perfect family getaway
House is conveniently located across the street from the ocean. Has a wonderful fenced in private saltwater pool with all the conveniences one could ask for. The house is well maintained, charmingly decorated, and big enough for an average sized family. Kitchen is well stocked with dishes, appliances, and most everything one would need to cook with. We loved the screened in porch, balcony, and other decks to hang out on. This house has everything. Absolutely loved our stay at the Sonrise and hope to be able to come back again. The owners are very sweet and caring and made sure everything was to our satisfaction.
