Welcome to Shady Oaks Cottage!
Sit on my front deck and enjoy the view the lake! Incredible sunsets.
Looking for an old time lakeview cottage? I am a charming 80+ year old cottage. I still have some of my original hardwood floors, and knotty pine wainscoting. My 2 original bedrooms are small, but they work for sleeping. The main bedroom (3 bedrooms total) was added on many years ago, and has one of those king beds to stretch out in. Did you know that king beds did not even exist when I was built! Updates have been made over the years, so you can enjoy the comfort of my central heat and air. Or like our granny's did, open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. All my beds are fairly new, my couch and loveseat both recline and are brand new, as well as my 40 inch smart TV.
You will stay with me because you want more than a cabin, but less than the fancy condo's downtown. I have a great firepit out back with a supply of firewood for your enjoyment. The firepit can double as a wood grilling option, or you can use the charcoal grill. I also have a wonderful, covered patio with party lights and a radio. The local station plays a lot of oldies. I have real comfy cushioned chairs on the patio. Two of the cushioned chairs even rock - just like someone's granny used to. Check out my indoor and outdoor games. Your stay with me should be for making memories.
I have a nice view of Hamlin Lake from my front porch and most of my rooms. The view is partially blocked by some trees, but none the less, the sunset emits a nice orange glow between the trees and makes me smile. You are only a 2 min walk to Hamlin Lake's South Bayou Park & boat ramp. The park includes a small playground for the kiddos. Bring your kayaks, paddle boards or boat and use the public launch at the South Bayou Park. This park has free parking and launching (no super large boats at this launch, but it will work for most ski and fishing boats). You can even get ice cream and bait at the Waterside Resort store across the street from the park.
Location, location, location. There are beaches, shopping, 2 lighthouses, the downtown area, and the State Park - all within a 10 minute drive. The 2nd lighthouse does require about a 45 minute walk to reach it.
I should have most everything you need for your stay. My lovely features include central heat/air, washer/dryer, nice size kitchen with coffee/waffle sideboard fully stocked for morning coffee and waffles. Fully stocked kitchen with stove, full size refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender, waffle maker, crock pot, baking dishes, pots, pans, dishes - it's all there. Includes some pantry staples such as coffee, sugar, creamer, waffle mix, syrup, salt, pepper, cinnamon, steak seasoning, and a few others.
I can sleep up to 6. The main bedroom has a King bed. Bedroom 2 has a bunk with a double (full) bed on the bottom and a single (twin) bed on the top. Bedroom 3 is set up with an extra long twin bunkbed that can easily sleep teens or adults. Linens are supplied for all the beds. I currently only have one bath. Only mansions had more than one bath back in the 1930's when I was built. You will have a set of towels for each guest, soaps, and shampoo.
Roku Channels, Weather Nation, and many other streaming channels on the TV. TV's were invented before I was built but did not become popular until more than a decade later.
I am a clean older home with many updates. Located in a quiet resort neighborhood. So please enjoy yourself, but no large gatherings or loud parties as they would disturb my neighbors and are against the township ordinance. This property offers easy convenient self check-in.
** Allergies? I am an older home and moth balls have been used in my past winters. If you suffer allergies, I may not be the right fit for you. :(
Easily park 4 vehicles in the driveway (garage not included in rental). Max of 4 vehicle + trailers allowed.
Location, location, location. This place has it. Pick me!! Pick me!!

The property was perfect for our needs. We visit Ludington twice a year to visit family. The house was perfect for our needs.
The beautiful town is worth the trip for its on beauty. We travel 10 hours to see my daughter and her family. The kids are young under 10 with two grandmas and an aunt we enjoyed the house so much. We were able to cook family meals together, enjoy card games at two big tables, the outside is set up for family fun as well, with a fire pit, corn hole etc. It is located across the road from the lake if you want water activities. The house is one level for those who may need No stairs. Good parking by kitchen door for bringing in luggage and food etc. It was 3 bedrooms, two room with bunks and a hugh master with a new washer and dryer. Only three of us stayed over night at the house but it was sure nice to have room for the kids to play inside and stairs etc. Location is only a few miles from Ludington Beach, shopping and restaurants. WE loved it and will use it again! Judy

The house was absolutely perfect for our needs and what we were looking for in a week-long getaway. My 3.5 year old loved the bunk beds and the king-sized bed was a dream. It was super helpful to stay in a place that had a washer/dryer and AC. The host paid close attention to details and made sure to include all the basic necessities (spices, cooking basics, aluminum foil, all the pots/pans, detergent, linens, etc.) so we didn't have to worry about bringing them. The fire pit was also a nice addition. The collection of old VHS and DVD movies were also a hit with the kids. There's plenty of space in the kitchen/dining/living area for everyone to spread out. Great location in terms of driving distance to downtown Ludington (~10 min) and the state park (~10/15 min). The only downside - and this is nothing against the host - is that we're really big into walking and there aren't any paths or sidewalks and the roads can get pretty busy. We would definitely recommend!

This house had everything described and was a perfect location for us to do a fall color tour. The kitchen was well stocked and we were able to enjoy the fire pit one night. The two smaller bedrooms were a little tight but met our needs with no issues.

Great family vacation!
Our family has enjoyed vacationing here the past 2 summers and we love it. The accommodations are nice and clean and the cottage is stocked with all the essentials. The location is perfect - easy access to Hamlin Lake and a quick drive to beautiful Lake Michigan.

Nice place
The house was a nice place to stay as we went out on excursions to Lake Michigan and Hamlin Lake. The King sized bed was very comfortable, and the full-sized washer and dryer proved to be helpful. W enjoyed the house atmosphere much more than the hotel feel. The kitchen was well-stocked with the necessities even though we didn't do a lot of cooking.
The one problem that we had is that the A/C was putting out quite a musty smell, so much that we had to keep it off. The owner, Laura, was very responsive and answered all of our questions quickly. She had someone come check it out but they didn't find the problem. We managed to solve the problem by turning off the A/C which made it hotter than we wanted, but we still had a nice stay. Laura was very personable and attentive, which we really appreciated even though the issue wasn't resolved. We stayed for 4 days.
About Hamlin Lake: We rented a pontoon boat from Sunset Bluff Resort for only $45 an hour (best price we found by far) and they were super nice. We did find that Hamlin Lake was a bust because it is so shallow and weedy almost everywhere that we were afraid we were going to rip the motor off even in the middle of the massive lake. In the future, we would skip Hamlin Lake and spend another day at Lake Michigan. I bet jet skis or kayaks on Hamlin would be more fun.

The house was comfortable & conveniently located near stearns park & ludington State park. My kids loved the stocked pantry. We also used the fire pit outside to make smores. We had a great time in Ludington & recommend this property.
