About this house rental
We rent our 24ft, 130 HP Pontoon Boat to guests at below market rates and its available at our dock. Call or write for more information.
Our cherished lake home is located on a point on Chief Lake, former residence of the World Record Musky (now residing on a wall at the Moccasin Bar 17 miles away in Hayward, Wisconsin). The home has a beautiful wood floor and cedar paneling throughout the main living area. It has three bedrooms for adults and a large cedar paneled "bunk room" with four single beds on the far end. Kids can play loud without disturbing their parents on the other end.
All appliances are like new, and a 50-inch smart TV with Direct TV service provides entertainment along with my old stereo from college that will plug into an iPhone. Kids and dogs play in a 1 3/4 acre wooded yard.
A 30 foot sand beach and two docks make for great swimming and lounging in the sunshine. Also, there's plenty of room for hitching boats large and small.
The Flowage is among the more famous fisheries in this part of the country, with an annual Musky Hunt tournament which takes place in September. Walleye, crappies, large and smallmouth bass and northern pike are also favorites throughout the Flowage. Many particularly serious fisherman come from far and wide to ply their skills.
Dining is available by boat at two nearby locations and more places throughout the 17,000 acre Chippewa Flowage. Touring the 300 miles of shoreline and nine lakes that form the Flowage includes a walk beneath a blue-heron rookery; a walk on one of several floating islands populated with tall trees; having a picnic on a sandy beach on one of the dozens of islands; visiting the dam that forms the Flowage and many other interesting sights. Campsites are available first-come-first-serve on islands throughout the Flowage. Best of all, 95% of the Flowage remains in its natural state, undeveloped. Bald eagles, beavers, bears, otters and even an occasional wolf are often seen.
The World Lumberjack Championship happens in Hayward each year in July and the Lumberjack Bowl puts on performances all summer long. Just down the road from Hayward is the famous Cranberry Festival in Stone Lake in October.. And Hayward is also the site of one of the world's great cross-country ski races, the Birkebeiner. The 4th of July is an American classic that includes baseball, picnics, amusement rides and ends in a dazzling fireworks display. Don't want to go into town for fireworks? Some of the resorts put on a show as well. But most special of all for Hayward is its very own annual Musky Fest in June when main street overflows with fun activities. There is no end to all the things for families to do in the Hayward area.

This was our 2nd time staying at this location on Chief Lake. The home is perfect for 2 families. The only issue this time was the 4 twin beds in the kids room had uncomfortable mattresses. A couple of the kids slept on the couches instead because of the twin mattresses not being great for sleeping on. Hopefully that will be updated before we would return again next summer!

The property is amazing. Easy access for elderly into and out of the cabin, docks were great for our fishing boats and pontoon rental, the cabin was spacious- we had 10 people and we didn’t feel like we were on top of one another and the view was breathtaking. We did lots of fishing - catching bluegills, crappies, and muskys.
The views of Chief Lake are breathtaking.
The property manager, Barbara, was fabulous - she called to check in with us upon arrival and towards the end of the week again to see how everything was going.
This is a property we will definitely rent again.

OMG we caught our limit every day of various panfish which we were fishing for. Also caught northern pikes, walleye and bass. It’s the best fishing we ever had there ! This is our fourth stay at this property so obviously we love it. We have stayed at various properties but they weren’t near as comfortable as this one. The furniture , including beds, are so comfortable. It had cable, Netflix etc. It sits on a point on Chief Lake with gorgeous views of the bay and the flowage . The lot is massive with two very nice docks with a bench on each one. There is a boat lift available and plenty of parking space at the large dock. The view is breathtaking from the living room. We had goslings , eagles, loons, and herons in abundance. The kitchen is the best stocked kitchen we have ever had. There is a Keurig fyi. Barbara the property manager is so pleasant and really does a great job in making sure your stay is comfortable . She is available for any questions you may have .
There’s plenty of room for large groups yet cozy enough just for the two of us. The A/C works great . It was so nice to walk into a cool place after driving from Omaha, Nebraska . There’s a screen porch a little rough looking but it has a large table and chairs to sit and relax on. It was great for our fishing gear . For any future guests bring yard guard and lots of big repellant. The mosquitos are bad this year because last year’s crop never froze out. Thank you Scott for sharing your beautiful property !

The first impression of the property was 'deferred maintenance' and 'deferred upgrades'. However, our stay ended up being a wonderful vacation with friends. The kitchen lacks for nothing, the beds were comfortable, and the lake views truly spectacular. Barb was great to work with!

This is our fourth stay here so obviously we love this property. It sits on a huge lot, on a point of Chief Lake. The lot size is truly incredible providing views and privacy . We enjoyed the two docks and had plenty of room for our boat. The fishing was slow but we still had a great time. We had pileated woodpeckers, loons and eagles all over. The cabin is very comfortable and the kitchen is truly well stocked with every utensil or pan you would need to cook meals. So many places have skimpy kitchens . Not this one. There weren’t any spices , oil or anything left from other guests but we knew that and brought what we needed. The king beds are super comfortable with nice linens. It was so nice having a washer and dryer in cabin so we didn’t have to pack sp much.
Our only disappointment was the yard wasn’t mowed and we had mice. We couldn’t find any traps so we bought some and set them out. We caught 4 mice but didn’t see any more after that. This is our first time seeing mice. We had plastic buckets to seal our food in but unfortunately had to toss everything when we first discovered the mice. We left stuff out on counters that the mice got into.
Barbara, the property manager is wonderful. She was very willing to get the mouse traps but since we were in town we did it.
Overall this cabin is wonderful. The outside just needs some care. The windows are not able to be opened in the living room and kitchen . We really missed being able to get the breeze in. The yard should have been mowed for our arrival and some old citronella candles tossed out that were laying by screen porch. The door to screen porch needs replaced as well but the inside of porch was good. Nice big table on porch and two tables inside to dine on. We saw a canoe but didn’t use it .
Overall a wonderful property with a great lot and super location. Chief lake lodge is very close to launch a boat. We already booked our stay for next year because the summer is filling up fast. Thank you Scott for sharing your place.!!

Location and property is lovely. Well supplied. Loved the opportunity to get out on the Chippewa Flowage.
Would definitely come back. My grand daughter got to catch her first fish off the dock. Definitely a memory to cherish.
I managed to catch a 3lb small mouth bass and my husband got a 4lb largemouth bass out on the Flowage. The boat ride suggested by the owner to Crane Lake was wonderful.
I suggest the cleaning crew lift the couch cushions and vaccum(we noticedbecausrwe missed placed something and we're looking) and watch for cobwebs in corners and on lights, though I understand these things are inevitable.
Surface cleaning was excellent otherwise!
Loved the outside space and the inside space.
We had a great week!

A piece of paradise with awesome views of the lake. Our grandkids enjoyed the sandy beach and everyone enjoyed boating on beautiful Chief Lake where we saw loons, ducks and bald eagles. The home was large enough that all nine of us had plenty of room to relax, read, and cook our meals. The table in the screen porch had a table large enough so we could eat together while enjoying lake views without bugs We definitely hope to visit again!

The Pristine North
This is a beautiful place. We love it here. The house is perfect for our family group. We used the screened in porch for meals and playing cards and games--like being outside. The view is beautiful. With two docks, swimming area and plenty of fish in the lake, what more could you ask?

The best experience for a relaxing get-away, on a gorgeous, peaceful lake. Highly recommended.

My father, my brother and myself grew up on the Chippewa Flowage, spending over 20 years every summer on it. While our old favorite, Timberlake Lodge, has long since been sold after the Guerra's moved on and passed away, we were overjoyed to find a place on Chief Lake.
The property was easy to access and we (luckily) bumped into one of the property managers, Barb, who graciously gave us a tour. It was clean and tidy, with newer appliances and good indoor lighting. The property, despite being built in the 60s, did not show it's age due to the care and maintenance.
The grounds were expensive and clean, the views offered are not given their justice in the listing photos. The accomodations we're exactly what we needed for our party of 5 adults and 3 children (5, 7, and 9). While we did not swim due to the colder weather, it is obvious they have a great swimming area that has a shallow walk out, as well as a ladder for the deeper areas.
The kitchen was full equipped and we lacked nothing when it came time to enjoy meals. The dishwasher was a huge plus. The bathrooms were clean and offered generous hot water and good water pressure. No well water taste at all, and we were able to full water bottles straight from the faucet.
The fishing was a little lacking however they fish cleaning station was a plus. We consider this our first of many returns to the Flowage and we would not hesitate to book another trip at the property. The owner was easily reached and willing to answer all our questions. Even got an email that we inadvertently left items at the cabin and that they would be returned.
If you're looking for a family stay on the Chip, look no further.

Beautiful Property, Perfect Experience
The best experience for a relaxing get-away, on a gorgeous, peaceful lake. Highly recommended.

This property is just as described plus much more. We spent as much time outdoors as possible, enjoying this peaceful water frontage from all directions on the point. The birds and wildlife are abundant and added to every quiet moment spent soaking in the view. The wall of windows in this home are the “crown jewel”, always allowing you the Northwoods experience. While some of the furnishings are worn, this home is very comfortable and provides plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy. The amenities of a washer & dryer, garbage disposal and dishwasher on lakefront property are a big plus for us. The owner, Scott, is gracious and very responsive. Barbara, the property manager, was very helpful and available to us whenever we needed her. All in all, our 4 weeks here was wonderful! We recommend that if you are looking for a spot to share with your family that provides a little bit of everything “Northwoods “ this is it!

This was our family's first stay at the Chief Lake cabin and we'll definitely book again. The accommodations were as described and much more! The house was very clean and the owners have the home well stocked with so many necessities and creature comforts.... really helped make our stay more enjoyable! The property is a private setting, in a great location on the lake, with a beautiful shoreline! We enjoyed meals on the screen porch, spending time at the beach, and telling stories by the fire. Thanks for sharing and allowing us (and the dogs) to enjoy your home!! The Hill family

Once you find it (thanks Scott!),, it is a gem of a place to enjoy a family vacation. Kids had a great time on the beach, adults had a great time on a rented pontoon boat. Fishing good early in the week then tailed off later on. Didn't matter, we still had a wonderful time for the entire week.

This is our 3rd stay here, and we had another wonderful week enjoying the Northwoods. The owners were always responsive and even ordered a pack and play when we inquired about renting a crib. Barbara met us at the cabin, which was sparkling clean, and showed us all of the updates. She was also available to answer quick questions during the week. We are hoping to return next year!

This is a wonderful lake property, located on a point with spacious grounds. The lake house was beautiful. We had plenty of room to spread out with 9 adults. Our group included grandparents with two daughters and their families- three adult grandchildren. Great fishing. kayaking , and swimming.

Beautiful location! Listing was accurate, and our family enjoyed all of the amenities. Docks were in excellent condition for tieing off our boats, with access to electric for charging trolling motors. Very nice sandy area for kids to swim. We caught a TON of fish, and really enjoyed evening bonfires at the fireplace on the point. Best family vacation we have ever had...Thank you for sharing your little slice of heaven with us!

Awesome Summer Vacation
We had a wonderful week at this cabin! Very quiet and secluded. Room for everyone, the views are absolutely amazing and it was very hard to leave. We brought a boat and spent plenty of time touring the flowage and tubing. We didn’t catch a lot of fish but it was a very hot week! The sandy beach is PERFECT, we spent a lot of time there. Had a few dinners at Chief lake lodge that you can travel by boat to get to and food was good as well as friendly staff. The cabin is aged and some things are outdated, but you have to remember your in the middle of Wisconsin and your there for the outdoors. Kitchen is big and the screen porch is an great bonus to put all the coolers and extra chairs that you will need to bring. All in all it was a wonderful getaway and I can’t wait to book our 2021 week! Thank you!

Beautiful location on the lake
We love coming to Chief Lake! The location is awesome and the water is so clear for swimming! We love having a swimming pier and a boat pier. Due to Covid we stayed at Breezy Point all week with no excursions. We loved spending time on the pontoon, canoeing and fishing.. The house has ceiling to floor windows and the view is lovely. Having them cleaned prior to the stay would have been a nice bonus! The house is charming but is due for a bit of TLC in some areas.

Special classes northwoods cabin
The cabin has everything you need: well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds, big windows overlooking the lake, lots of room and a screen porch. The lake water is clean and swimming nice off the dock. The Flowage is not your typical Hayward area lake experience, very few amenities near by but lots of wildlife. We enjoyed a very nice 2 weeks swimming, boating, kayaking, and paddle boarding.

As always we thoroughly enjoyed the property. It has a full amenities as well as a wonderful view. I hope to return next year.
