Lovely place, very hospitable hosts surprising us with home baked goods and lovely fresh fruit and eggs everyday. The whole experience here was impressive. We’ve stayed at many VRBO’s and can’t say enough about this place 😊

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay on the Big Island. Appreciated all the thoughtful things you did, like leaving fresh fruit and delicious homemade muffins for our arrival! What a treat to taste the hand-picked fresh fruits grown on your property. It really made us feel welcome, especially with the late arrival and being pretty hungry after the trip. Nothing like a fresh taste of the island and the sound of the frogs outside, to let you know you've arrived! Plus, great directions, so we were able to find you even in the dark - also love the little lights outside guiding us to your place every time. Your suggestions for where we could find things and looking into the Manta Ray booking on our behalf, really saved us time and made our holiday so much more enjoyable. Loved the binder that you put together with restaurant and beach suggestions. Thank you for being great hosts and making our visit fantastic!

Second time staying here and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Great hosts!! Plenty of space, great view, cooler weather being uphill a ways from the water. A really nice place to get away and relax. Plus it's just a short drive to great snorkeling.

My family of four stayed here for ten days in June 2023. We had a great time all around and enjoyed this space immensely. Tina and Keri are gracious hosts, and we appreciated the homey feel of the place. The property information on the listing is accurate and there were no surprises. I recommend spot if you are looking for simplicity, a laid back feel and excellent proximity to many fun things to do! Fresh fruit, yummy muffins and fresh eggs are an appreciated touch as well!

Super clean unit
Ultra comfy bed and pillows
The host was ultra-sympathic, avalaible and helpful
The cats, dogs and chickens were pretty cool as well
Muffins were just EPIC !!!
The location of this place makes it a really nice spot to relax at the end of your daily activities.
We stayed there 2 weeks. We went to many beaches, the volcano, the Mauna Kea Summit and we played golf a lot. We enjoyed coming back before the sunset and relax outside on the lanai and admiring the view.
5 stars says it all !!!

Such a sweet spot in South Kona. The property embodies the natural wildness and beauty of the Island. Tina & Kari are excellent, experienced hosts. The added touches of baked goodies, coffee and fruit embody the spirit of aloha. Accommodations are very comfortable and well appointed. Feeling relaxed and rejuvenated from our stay at the Hideaway.

We going coming back! The home was clean and comfortable with all kinds of amenities. We lacked for nothing—beach chairs, mats, towels, snorkeling gear, coolers. Tina and Keri made us feel like honored guests. They shared their farm fresh eggs, papayas, fresh roasted Kona coffee from their property, and other homegrown fruit. It’s true what others said about the amazing warm homemade muffins and generous fruit platter greeting.

After reading several reviews for this property, my bar was set pretty high. However, it lived up to every expectation. We arrived very late at night to delicious home baked muffins, a lovely fresh fruit tray, fresh orange juice and Kona coffee beans. Every morning we feasted on fresh fruit and eggs from the property. In the house was a comprehensive binder that told us everything about the house and the surrounding area including best beaches, snorkeling locations, places to eat. Tina and Keri were very lovely, generous and gracious hosts. They were there to answer any questions we had and gave us lots of great advice. It was the perfect getaway place for my husband and I.

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our South Kona Hideaway experience. The spacious lanai offered a fabulous view. No traffic sounds - only birds and nighttime coqui frogs. The Lanai unit was clean, well equipped and roomy. I enjoyed preparing meals at the outdoor kitchen! So great! The muffins, fresh fruit on arrival and fresh chicken eggs were a bonus. As were the resident kitties - we miss Ditto! Also, we were grateful for all the beach/snorkeling equipment that was available for use. Nothing was lacking! Thank you, Tina, for being an attentive hostess and for being around to answer our questions and to enquire about our day’s activities.

Tina and Keri were fabulous hosts! From the welcoming warm muffins to the fresh fruits and eggs, they were generous and kind. The evening view from the deck can’t be beat! The facility had everything we needed, was clean, and comfortable. The ladies gave us many helpful suggestions as far as activities and dining. It felt like we were leaving good friends when we left. We highly recommend staying here!

South Kona Hideaway is truly a paradise retreat. From the start, we were greeted with the most delicious homemade muffins and a fruit plate picked fresh from the surrounding garden. The lanai apartment was spacious, bright, and thoughtfully filled with amenities. Our hosts truly made us feel the Ohana spirit. It was here that we could lounge on the deck, facing the ocean sunset, and not regret skipping a day of tourist sites. Situated in the Captain Cook coffee coast region, it’s close enough to the town attractions & beaches, and far enough to embrace the quiet and friendly neighborhood. And as much as we want to keep this gem our secret, we can’t help but rave about our stay and how much we look forward to returning.

We had such an amazing time staying at South Kona Hideaway - it really was the perfect first week of our honeymoon! Very clean and well set up, super comfy bed, everything you could need. Peaceful with the most stunning sunsets to enjoy on the balcony, and then as the sun goes down the frog chorus begins - wonderful! Tina was the perfect host, her homemade muffins were to die for and the tropical fruit platter, freshly squeezed orange juice and coffee beans all from the farm were such a treat. Tina was so helpful with top tips on things to do - we did everything and loved exploring the area. We really did have the most brilliant time and would love to come back one day! I would highly recommend this property. Thank you so much for welcoming us and looking after us so well. Mahalo.

The South Kona Hideaway property is perfect for easygoing travelers! It is priced appropriately and is the opposite of a luxury resort - and that's a good thing. You feel like an old friend visiting the locals. Tina and Keri are both incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. At the end of most days, we told them about our activities and they helped us plan the next day's adventures. All of the extra touches mentioned by other reviewers are true. This includes the homemade muffins awaiting your arrival (the chocolate chip ones are divine), all the snorkeling equipment you need, fresh eggs from their chickens (who we liked to feed our leftover lettuce), fresh avocados and other local produce (including site-grown Kona coffee), their friendly cats Ditto and Lester (who can be avoided if you're not a cat person), the dazzling sunsets from the back lanai, the comfortable sleep number beds and the effective bedroom air conditioner. We also enjoyed their recommendations regarding snorkeling locations and the great local restaurants (including Black Rock Pizza, Teshimas, Shaka Tacoz and Kaaloa's Super J's). The property fits the Big Island laid back vibe perfectly!

What a great place to get away from it all and taste that Aloha spirit! This place is immaculately maintained with a bunch of little extras thrown in. Tina and Keri never slow down and they bring that tireless work ethic to the way they take care of their guests.

Authentic and Delightful
One of the many reasons we like The Big Island is the diversity of landscape, climate, and accommodations. We like cooler weather, some rainy afternoons, authentic landscapes (read "non-resort") and kind, down-to-earth people. South Kona Hideaway offered all these, with many extra delights. Tina and Keri were caring, helpful, and generous hosts - sharing their farm's bounty of fruit, extraordinary estate-grown (theirs) coffee. The warm-muffin greeting was delicious and so appreciated after a very long day of travel. The outside camp stove/oven worked just fine, with all the various cookware we needed for (their chicken's') eggs-over-easy, grilled salmon, and pizza. The lanai was perfect for our yoga practice; some of it covered for shade and rain-protection. The location is a fairly quick drive to Kona. Staying very near Captain Cook, is -- for our taste -- ideal. Mahalo, Tina and Keri!

Oasis in Paradise
How do you put into words everything this incredible place has been to my husband and I throughout our three week stay? We have been to Big Island many times but this was our first VRBO stay. The setting is breathtaking, as are the sunsets, lush tropical flowers in abundance. The extremely clean accommodation is roomy and equipped with everything one needs, and then some. The hosts even provide loaners of everything one needs for the beach and snorkelling. The king sized sleep number bed gave us such comfortable sleeps at the end of our adventurous days, However, what took our experience to another level was our friendly, kind and fun hosts, Tina snd Keri. And yes, as we’d read in many other reviews, those muffins were divine….waiting to greet us upon our arrival, as well as a beautiful tropical fruit plate….oh, and fresh coffee beans, right from their property! The resident hens were so kind as to regularly provide us with fresh eggs! Though we are more “dog people” we fell completely in love with their cat, Ditto. We will leave here today with a lump in our throat as this place, and it’s hosts, have touched our hearts, but filled with such amazing memories. Mahalo Tina and Keri for providing us such a special experience. We can’t wait to return, and to stay with you on our next trip. Ginny & Scott

Amazing Place
Off the bustle of condo and hotel land, it was perfect for us. Dark sky night viewing without the drive, fresh chicken eggs, resident cats and a symphony of coqui frogs to sleep by. We were snorkeling rats everyday and location was perfect, short drive to beaches. Dreaming of when we can go again. Tina and Keri are wonderful hosts.

A week of paradise!
I love to read reviews, but am terrible at writing them and normally skip the opportunity but I had to make an exception this time.
Tina and Dr Keri were absolutely wonderful hosts ! We picked this as a home base for snorkeling and couldn’t have been more pleased. We were greeted with the most amazing muffins (fresh out of the oven) and a fresh fruit plate on our arrival Tina’s advice about everything was spot on and I even made my own guacamole thanks to her guidance and freshly provided avocados.
There were fresh coffee beans right from their farm and a grinder available. I’m not normally a coffee drinker but they offered iced coffee suggestions and I was hooked!
The local area information notebook provided for the unit is very detailed and accurate which was especially helpful for snorkeling. It’s so helpful I would actually take it with us on our day trips!
Sunsets on the lanai were not to be missed! I highly recommend
a stay at South Kona Hideaway!! We will definitely return to this treasure on our next visit to Big Island.
Mahalo to Tina and Dr Keri for the perfect end to my husbands work conference.

Wonderful hosts and beautiful setting
This is a perfect home-base for exploring the Kona-side of the Big Island of Hawai'i. Perfect for a couple, and there is a sleeper-sofa in living room as well. Beautiful view of lush vegetation from back-porch, and the hosts accommodated our needs, and more.

Love the property! Located just far enough from the business of the strip, but within a short distance of beautiful beaches, good restaurants. We enjoyed the homegrown fruits. Avocados, coffee and homemade muffins! Glad we had the opportunity to meet Tina & the pups! Hope to come again.

Wonderful stay
We had a great time in South Kona. Great snorkeling nearby (with the snorkeling gear onsite) beautiful sunsets. The property was very clean and comfortable. Tina went above and beyond with delicious muffins and fruit that was grown on the property. The fresh coffee, eggs, and produce were wonderful. It was great to enjoy or morning coffee overlooking the ocean view on the deck. We would definitely stay again!

Stay here. It's great!
Our hosts welcomed us with hot, mouthwatering muffins and fresh fruit from their farm. The view is fantastic. Nice clean kitchen, sleep number bed, fast wifi, easy parking and plentiful hot water for the shower. In the evening the soothing coqui frog chorus will lull you to sleep (yes, those are frogs, not birds making that sound). Like everything on the Big Island, it takes time to get from where you are to where you want to go because of distance, winding roads and slow speed limits. So take that into account when doing your planning...and perhaps plan to spend a few more days!

Great hosts, close to snorkeling
Our favorite things at this rental: Tina’s snorkeling tips, the fruit and coffee grown on site, the breakfast muffins, the lanai and the super comfy sleep number bed. The host provides an information book full of everything you need to know about visiting the area. And if you don’t find it there, Tina will answer any questions you have.

Wonderful hosts, great sunsets!
We stayed in the Lanai for two nights and would go back in a heartbeat. Tina and Keri were so generous and welcoming. The fresh fruit and baked goods were a real treat. The Lanai is in a prime location close to fantastic snorkelling. It felt like a home away from home and it was a pleasure to stay there.

Our second visit to South Kona Hideaway!
A wonderful place to stay! This is our second visit, and it was just as good as we remembered! Tina and Keri have thought of everything you might need and provided it for your use. Immaculately clean, charming and cozy, and the sleep number beds are so comfortable! We got special enjoyment from the chickens strutting around the property and from one of the cats who seemed to know that our long stay had us missing our cats at home. The proximity to Two Step, where you can find some of the island's best snorkeling make this location, nestled among the fruit and coffee trees, just perfect! We'll be back!

In a secluded area with lush green backyard, very relaxing and quiet. Watch sunset from the window.
The owners were very gracious, Baked muffins, provided fruits (papaya, passion fruit, banana, avokado), made us feel at home. Greeted us when came back from our day trip. Provided very good instructions and maps for us to get around the area, very helpful.

Beautiful, relaxing, friendly, peaceful, and great location.
West Kona Hideaway is the ideal place to stay if you are looking to get away from the resorts and crowds but want a good central locale to get around on the Island. My son and I stayed at the Lanai unit, and it had everything we needed, plus loaner beach equipment and helpful advice from the hosts. It is spacious, the rooms are clean and attractive, the grounds are beautiful and fragrant, and it is quiet except for the lovely ambient sounds of the birds and other animals (loved the roosters, chickens, tree frogs, cat, and geckos). Tina looked after our comfort and needs, and her baked goods were terrific. So nice to have a peaceful home base to return to after running around all day: this place is a gem and so are the owners.
