We enjoyed our stay in Steuben. Ray was an excellent host and the house had everything we needed. The area is quiet and peaceful, giving us the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the ocean and of an adjacent brook.

The Downeast retreat is our favorite. I think this was our 6th visit. Ray and Jo are the best. It's perfect for our family.

From start to finish, we had a wonderful stay. We were greeted by Ray and Jo upon arrival and answered any questions that we had. The house was perfect in every way with such attention to detail. It is in a wonderful location tucked away from it all, yet a 20-30 minute drive to anything you may need. It is a quiet street directly across from the ocean. There is a stream on the side of the house. We enjoyed looking for tons of sea glass on the beach and hiking the Hollingsworth Trail at the end of the road. Ray's book with activity and food recommendations was perfect, but his actual conversations were even better. We look forward to visiting again.

Absolutely stunning view. Hosts Jay and Jo were amazing and gave us suggestions for food and scenic adventures. Our stay was peaceful and adventurous with all the walking paths we were surrounded with. I even saw a white deer (rare find). We have stayed at many places over the years and this has been our favorite.

We really enjoyed our time Ray and Jo’s Downeast Retreat. It was quaint and quiet and absolutely perfect. Ray and Jo were so kind and very helpful with their recommendations. This was our first trip to Maine and we couldn’t have had a nicer spot. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful Maine cottage with us. It was a memory that will last a lifetime.

We absolutely love this place, and Ray and Jo! They are so wonderful, they make sure we are comfortable and have everything we need and excellent tips on places to eat and see! The property is beautiful, well maintained with beautiful flowers and an excellent view. The porch looking at the water is our absolute favorite spot at the house. We were able to bring our dog which is wonderful. For us this house was located in a great spot, far enough away to not be packed with people but still close enough to go many places especially Acadia and Schoodic Point, and nearby tidal falls was so much fun! This was the second time we stayed at this house and we hope to do so again. Meeting Ray and Jo and staying at their beautiful place is an absolute must!

Exactly as pictured. Ray was a wonderful host and had great local connections. We hiked Pigeon Hill, visited Petit Manan and spent a day at Acadia, about a 30 minute drive away. Short drive to Schoodic Pennisula parks.

What a beautiful cottage and in a beautiful location. Ray the owner came upon our checkin and walked us through the local area. He took time to ask what we wished to get out of our stay and then plotted our way on maps he provided. We had the chance ti see some of the most beautiful places in Maine.
The location just and hours drive to many local attractions and if you wish to just stay close and not travel there are many local natures sights to see.
Over all you can just stay and have a quiet stay at the cottage or get out and be as adventurous as you choose to be. And who can pass up on all the local seafood to eat!

What a wonderful time we had at Ray and JoAnne's gorgeous cabin during our first visit to Maine! The cabin was so cozy and warm and features a very smart layout, letting the views of the outside in at every perfect spot. We arrived after a long, rainy day of travel and were greeted with fresh flowers, heated floors and comfy beds! The cabin was stocked with all of the necessities and very clean. Having Ray next door was such a huge bonus (and really a highlight of our time spent here)- so friendly and welcoming and full of great tips of what to do and see. We stayed Fri-Mon and managed to squeeze in so much. Schoodic Peninsula/Acadia, lots of great hikes, small fishing towns are all close by. We did a day trip to Bar Harbor and the busier side of Acadia but couldn't wait to get back to the Pigeon Hill area as there was much to explore just in that area. Our kids' favorite spot was on the beach across the street. I can't wait to come back and explore more! For a real retreat away from the hustle and bustle- this is the place!

The process of renting was smooth, start to finish. The cottage was cozy and comfortable, and the proximity to the water was wonderful. Ray provided suggestions of places to go and eat— which we’ll need to follow up on next time!

This is a perfect property for people who are looking for peace and quiet. It also is a central location for great hiking… including Acadia. The best part was the hospitality. Ray is amazing. We invited him to give us local insight and suggestions. He happily sat down with us and gave us direction. And he’s just a fantastic person. Humble, kind, and funny. 5 stars.

What a great place! You’re right by the water, where with can see yellowlegs walking around on kelp beds and terns flying down the equivalent of a bird highway. We spotted porcupines up the road. And the Hollingsworth trail in Petit Manan is spectacular birding. Nice beds. Lovely house. Terrific hosts.

This is a charming little getaway that was just what my husband and I needed. There are enjoyable hiking trails within walking distance and others that you can drive to. Visiting Acadia for a day trip was the highlight to our trip. Being able to bring our german shepherd made this a very special vacation. Thank you Ray and Jo :)

Perfect Downeast Experience
My husband and I escaped the summer heatwave in this idyllic location. The cottage is incredibly comfortable and well equipped and thoughtfully designed to take advantage of the view, cool sea breezes. My favorite part was sitting on the window seat, reading and listening to the water and shore birds.
The homeowner provided great information on local finds for food, hiking, day trips, etc. Located a bit off the beaten path, it is the perfect destination to relax, unplug and unwind.
We did a few day trips exploring the region. Bar Harbor and Acadia are very accessible from this location. There is so much natural beauty to take in; it is well worth the trip!

Winter getaway - just what we needed!
Ray is a terrific host and the cottage is wonderful. We loved it that Ray lives nearby and welcomed us and offered helpful info on hiking trails, restaurants that are actually open in December, and even a fabulous local radio station when he found out we all love music. It really made us feel special - that we were staying in a spot that is very special to him and meticulously cared for. The cottage is just as pictured and lovely. As you look out at the bay you also hear the little brook babbling on the edge of the property. We got to watch the snow falling from the big front windows and walk in it along the beach and quiet road. Gave the loft to the adult children and we stayed in the cozy first floor bedroom. Perfect setup for the four of us. 30 min to Schoodic Penninsula and an hour plus to Acadia. Picturesque drives to both. Can’t wait to go back to experience it all in another season!

Christmas in Maine!
Needed a place in Maine to visit relatives over Christmas....This place was just what we were looking for. Cozy home with everything we needed. Owner was personable and easy to work with. Sunrises were phenomenal! Will likely stay here the next time we venture up to Maine!

Perfect weekend getaway
My 2 kids (ages 9 and 12) and I stayed here for a short weekend getaway and it was exactly as described. The weather did not cooperate but we were still able to drive around Schoondic Peninsula and had a truly wonderful weekend. Ray greeted us upon arrival and was a wealth of information. Wonderful experience overall!

A hidden gem!
Where do I start? From my first correspondence with the hosts to our warm goodbyes, it has been such an enjoyable and memorable experience. The hosts, Ray and Jo, were super hospitable and attentive to every detail of our stay. Upon arrival, we were in awe of the cute cabin and its majestic surroundings. Just a stone's throw from the ocean, the cabin was warm and welcoming. We stayed over Thanksgiving and the cabinets were stocked with every pot, pan, and utensil was greatly appreciated. Right out the front door, there are so many great activities...hiking along the shore or up at Pigeon Hill. All this to say, that our stay was magical in every way. We will definitely be returning soon.

Truly A Little Slice of Heaven
I cannot say enough good things about our trip to Maine. From our host Ray, to the property itself, everything about our trip was magical. One of my favorite things was talking with Ray and learning about the area itself. Add to that the fresh lobster and clams that Ray caught us (and the homemade Maple syrup), and we couldn

Fantastic Stay
The property was very well maintained and in a great location to enjoy the beauty of the Maine coast. There are plenty of hiking trails very close to the house, and the beach is right across the street in case you prefer to stroll along the coast. Thank you to Ray and Jo for creating and maintaining such a great property and for being responsive and helpful hosts!

The house was incredible, but the host was even better! Ray gave insight and tips, weeks prior to arrival and when on sight, whenever we asked. Any questions we had, he was quick to go above and beyond. By far, our best experience yet!
Thank you Ray and Jo!
