There were tiny fruit/drain flies inside. Besides that it was BEAUTIFUL, but we had to eat outside or very quickly because the flies were all over anything you opened, drink or food. I'll still go back but I'm bringing fly paper traps lol. House is legit, it's a little older but the deck, view, and solitude make up for any of that by far. Still loved our stay, just annoying tiny flies.

great place with panoramic ocean view even better than the website. Loved watching the daily rituals and antics of the local harbor seal herd on a spit below the deck. Groceries are very difficult to purchase here, and super expensive, so bring food with you. Know that shops in Elk are closed Tuesdays and in Point Arena closed Wednesdays. We went everywhere on the wrong days!

We would absolutely stay here again. The interior was so cute, bright, and had views from every room.

Highly recommend staying here. Great views and fairly remote location. It was perfect for the three of us. Being visited by a deer was a plus as well.

Elk Rock Beach Cottage will live in our hearts forever. We absolutely fell in love with the charming town of Elk, as well as nearby Albion, Mendocino, and Fort Bragg. Even in the rain, the scenery was breathtaking. On sunny days, it truly felt like heaven. We were delighted by the sweet deer in our yard too. Everyone was super friendly. Just two minutes away, Elk Cove Inn is a hidden gem, much like this amazing cottage. It really is a luxurious, modern Oceanside retreat with unbeatable views. Thank you so much! We loved our stay in Elk!

Views, comfort, everything.

Can’t begin to describe how incredible the view and the deck is at this location. My boyfriend and I had the most relaxing stay here. It is private, serene, and a 25 minute drive to the town of Mendocino. We hope to make this an annual trip. Could not recommend it enough!

We found the house to be quaint and lovely. The amenities were all wonderful, from the fluffy bedding to the well equipped kitchen. The deck is stunning to say the least and it was where we spent much of each day. We have spent years coming over to the towns of Fort Bragg and Mendocino. This home gave us access to new areas to explore like Manchester State beach. Looking forward to returning!

Great spot to spend a quiet weekend. Well appointed kitchen made cooking a breeze.

The property was more remote than we anticipated. If you are looking for a true getaway, this is your spot. The local Elk grocery & mercantile store clerks were wonderful and full of ideas to fill our time. We took a trip to Mendocino and Fort Bragg along the beautiful coast.
The house was so cozy, clean & charming.
We will for sure return

The most incredible view! Perfect for a romantic getaway.

This was an amazing stay. Can’t beat the views and we’re surprised by all the wildlife we saw. Linens were incredibly comfortable and even with one bathroom and five people it was fine. Kitchen had everything we needed and couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more.

Amazing property with breathtaking views. No brainer so please book asap

We stayed at this property for my milestone birthday. The scenery and ocean sounds are so welcoming. Regional coastline, vineyards and Redwoods are spectacular. The house was plenty spacious, with a well-stocked kitchen and laundry nook. The bed linens and towels were super comfortable, and the fireplace was cozy. I would, however, shorten the front door code. The lock is very particular on how fast/slow you enter the current long code.

My family and I just wrapped up our very first trip to Mendocino and I am so glad I picked this jewel of a rental for our stay! The view was absolutely stunning! The cleanliness was immaculate and bonus we got to see a family of deer munch their way into the backyard! I highly recommend this property to anyone traveling to the Mendocino area!

We had a lovely stay at this renovated farmhouse. The place was very cozy, comfortable and clean. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. There is limited closet space and no chest of drawers, but with only two people, we used the second bedroom as our closet. The view from the deck was spectacular where you can see harbor seals and their pups on a sand spit below. We also had a few deer visit in the yard and the place was very private with no nearby neighbors. We'll definitely return.
P.S. While our stay was almost perfect, a few things could have made it even better. First clear directions on entering the front door. Vacasa provided an entry code, but neglected to mention that once you enter the code, while the light is blinking to turn the deadbolt key slot to the right. So we needed to call Vacasa and get a code for a manual key. The directions to enter and exit the front door are very clear in the binder inside the home, but that doesn't help when you're trying to get in for the first time. Also, there were no directions on how to work the TV. The manual said to refer to directions left on the mantel and there were none. Took us quite a bit of time to figure it out each time we wanted to turn on the TV. Also, the back deck door is a bit tricky to lock and instructions would be helpful. Lastly, it would have been helpful to have a plastic cutting board and laundry detergent. Next time, we'll bring both.

This is our third visit to this wonderful cottage by the sea. The views cannot be beaten. The cottage is always clean, and well-appointed with a relaxing atmosphere.
Highly recommend!!

The house was well provided for. Everything was perfect. The view and ocean were amazing. I would definitely book this property again.

We absolutely loved everything about this charming Elk coastal gem. The oceanfront views were phenomenal. Being set outside of town with a scattering of other properties in the area, star gazing at night was also incredible! 5 stars :)

The location is not accurately depicted it is on a cliff in a remote area with no cell reception and NOT in the town of Elk. The main source of heat is a gas fireplace that is not working. The electric heaters blow the circuit when plugged in. For the overpriced rate we were expecting so much more. I made over 15 calls to VRBO the customer service is full of lies and no call backs. I will NEVER use VRBO again. Customers beware.

The property was great though it was misrepresented as Cottage for 6. The two Bedroom Queen beds were great for 4 people. The sofa bed to sleep 2 might have been ok but there were NO SHEETS for the sofa and an unbelievably HEAVY OVERSIZED Coffee Table took up much of the living room; with the sofa opened there was no place to put the coffee table. We thought of standing it on end but it took 2 men to lift it. Fortunately we discovered the problem before our grandson arrived and asked him to bring a sleeping bag. Leaving the couch closed as a couch, we turned the coffee table to make a "T" to the couch. He slept with his head on the couch and his legs and body on the table. Not comfortable, but neither was the sofa bed because when opened, it was not full size and our grandson was 6'3". The offer table needs to go even without a sofa bed it filled much of the living room.

We loved everything about this little home. Bright and airy, with the most amazing view.
Someone before us broke the remote to the fireplace, so we couldn’t get the fireplace to turn on. The property management company had someone come out and make repairs the same day so we could enjoy a fire that night.

Fantastic property.

Such a treat for us to unplug and simply enjoy the gorgeous coastal views, hear the surf crashing below and anticipate each beautiful sunset at day’s end.
The charming cottage was so cozy as we enjoyed the fireplace each night. The kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed for our evening meals. We would certainly look forward to returning in the future. Thank you, thank you!

If you are looking for a peaceful place on the ocean this fits the bill. We enjoyed sitting on the deck sipping wine. If the evening is not foggy you can see the Milky Way too.

We( myself,my wife ,my mom} had a terriffic, relaxing time at this cottage. Beautiful views of the ocean out on the extended deck!! Cottage had everthing we needed. Would definitely come back to this cottage.

Thank you to Vacasa for making our booking, stay and prompt communication (thank you Kat!) when we had questions/concerns upon arrival. Appreciated!
The property is very clean, private and peaceful, million dollar view looking over the Pacific Ocean from 200 feet above and fully stocked with everything we expected and needed. I think most anyone would really enjoy their stay here. Also, it's only a 20-min drive to Mendocino Village.
On an improvement and/or suggestion note, and by no means is this a negative checkmark for this listing, but I'd like to mention it anyhow: both bedroom mattresses are very soft and sinks in the middle (not good for middle-aged backs) and the bed frames squeaks a lot (when changing sleeping positions it's very noticeable and woke each other). The bathroom window doesn't open as the locking handle appears defective (made for a steamy bathroom when showering)... and the front windows and kitchen windows don't have screens. Thus, due to a lot of flies from the field across the highway, we kept them shut as the flies became annoying.
Thanks again and we look forward to the next visit!
