About this cabin rental
Return to the serene days of past generations with this beautiful nostalgic Northwoods log cabin. This is truly the Northwoods vacation spot of your dreams - enjoy peace and tranquility on this beautiful private lake to unwind and connect with nature as the world becomes more distant!
Boulder Lodge is a gorgeous, newly restored log cabin/lodge situated on a private peninsula featuring over 470 feet of beautiful lake frontage, sandy bottom shoreline for wading or swimming, large boat landing on the property (free of charge), 2 fishing docks with benches; and stunning year-round lake views from every window - it is very much like your own private resort!
Our beautiful log cabin offers a great way to experience the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The Cabin is located on beautiful Little Sissabagama Lake (locally referred to as Little Siss), which is in the heart of the northwestern woods of Wisconsin, in between the towns of Spooner and Hayward, and is an easy 2.5 hour drive from the Twin Cities. The surrounding area is considered by many to be one of the finest examples of the Northwoods due to the diverse landscape, dense coverage of various types of trees, and an abundance of fish and bird populations. From the forested shorelines, coves, islands, and winding narrows to the ethereal echo of loons, it's a Northwoods experience straight out of a novel.
Little Siss is a private 'quiet' lake with nearly no traffic and is great for boating (up to 130HP motors), tubing, fishing (class A Musky lake), kayaking, and swimming. Boulder Lodge is also great during the winter season - enjoy great ice fishing just outside your front door, snowshoeing on the lake, cross-country skiing, and an open campfire under the stars!
Boulder Lodge has been a longtime landmark with a rich local history; it served as a training camp for many well-known boxers, including Karl Ogren who won the Chicago Tribune Golden Gloves in the 1930s. The boxing camp (Boulder Lodge) also hosted Jimmy Braddock - which was the world heavyweight boxing champion in 1935, and a film entitled "Cinderella Man" produced in 2005 was based on his career.
The Lodge is over 3,500sf and comfortably sleeps up to 12 people. There are 2 full bathrooms and 1 half-bath, 4 bedrooms (3 with Queen-size beds, and 1 with a Twin-size bunk bed), a large loft area (with 1 Queen-size bed), a grand 2 story exposed log living-room (which hosted the boxing ring during the 1930s training camp), a large fully equipped kitchen with state-of-the-art appliances (including wine fridge/cooler), and a very large walkout basement that is ready for entertainment. Enjoy bringing back some fun memories playing an arcade machine (free of charge) with over 400 top arcade games of the 80's and 90's, or challenge friends and family to a game of pool, ping-pong, or shuffleboard table - guaranteed to be a big hit!
The Lodge is also loaded with several comforts and amenities including central heating/air-conditioning, beautiful work-of-art natural stone wood-burning fireplace, washer/dryer, high-speed Starlink Internet (Wi-Fi), and High-Definition televisions featuring DirecTV and built-in DVD players in every room.
Bring your boat/pontoon - Boulder Lodge offers a large boat ramp/launch conveniently located just outside your front door. We also provide our guests with a rowboat and 2 kayaks free of charge. Motorized boat/pontoon rental is also available from a 3rd party vendor with free delivery and pickup to our docks.
We also allow up to two house-trained and well-behaved dogs, so, bring your furry family member(s) and enjoy the tranquility and privacy of your very own piece of paradise!

The property is just as advertized. We enjoyed kayaking and swimming in the lake on the warm days and the amenties in the home on the cool, rainy ones.

This year we chose to stay at this historic cabin. We comfortably slept 6 adults and 5 children and two pups.
Positives (in no particular order): Well-equipped and everything worked as it should, A/C worked well, dock fishing for kids and adults, swimming area and sandbar good for swimming/wading, internet excellent, TV excellent, the old arcade machine was a big hit, good hot water for showers and washing, huge cabin plus full basement with games, story of the property was very cool and movie was very good, local pontoon rental delivered and picked up the pontoon, plenty of towels, huge dining table, two very new docks, close enough to Stone Lake for basics, comfortable beds.
Couple of negatives: no sandy beach, advise water shoes, suggest a dump truck full of sand, kitchen needs more forks, lots of steps to docks and also cabin steps, needs more places to hang towels/swimsuits, suggest close line.
Over-all: 22 thumbs up from our family group of 11.

Wonderful place for together time and big enough for everyone to have their space. Love the big dinning room table so we all could eat together. The loft was a hit with the younger ones. We appreciate you sharing the history of the place and giving us the opportunity to create new memories.

We were a group of 8 women and had absolutely everything we needed. It is a stunning house and the surrounding lake-filled area is beautiful. We had perfect hiking on the nearby Little Siss trails. Since it was April, we didn't go out onto the lake but plan to next time we stay:)

We really enjoyed our stay at the lodge, as soon as you walked it and smelled that wood burning fireplace smell and saw the old log beams, you knew you were somewhere special! The location was amazing, close to town, but felt remote out there on the peninsula. Lots to do at the house, or spend your time reading and relaxing- it has it all! The views from the kitchen were my favorite, every room had an amazing view though! Would 10/10 stay here again!

Beautiful property surrounded by lake views. We enjoyed our family time playing games/ping pong/pool, watching movies (Cinderella Man!) & cooking. Beds were comfortable, showers were hot & kitchen well stocked with pots, pans, dishware and utensils. Enjoyed a yummy dinner at Pine Ridge (7 min drive). Hoping to come back in the warmer months to enjoy the lake.

Everything we could of possibly wanted or needed was at this cabin. An assortment of activities kept the whole family entertained and we couldn't have chosen a better getaway for Christmas! Christmas dinner was very close and left everyone stuffed. A great experience and many memories were made. Look forward to possibly returning in the coming years.

We were a group of 11; adults, teenagers and a preschooler.
Beautiful location for fall colors and outdoor activities. The lodge was wonderful and had something for everyone. The history of the lodge is an incredible story and preserves all the cabin comforts. The experience exceeded our expectations and we would love to come back.

Lodge was nice. Plenty of space and worked well for activities and social time. Are was nice and very quiet.

many steps, not easy for those who have a stair issues. Everything inside was wonderful. Rained most of weekend so didn't spend time outside.

Lots and lots of steps to access the front door and the firepit area. This was unexpected based on property description. Furniture cushions were not not very clean. Rafters and light fixtures needed a good cleaning. The property and home were beautiful, fishing was great, and we did enjoy our stay. Not recommended if making it up and down steps is even a small challenge for you.

We loved our stay at Boulder Lodge! The lodge is absolutely beautiful, exuding that old fashioned "up north" feel, while still providing every modern convenience you'd need. The hosts were easily accessible and great to work with. Would highly recommend!

We had a wonderful week at the lodge. It was clean and well equipped. It had everything we needed. The kids loved the pool table. The fishing was great. My nephew caught his first Muskie which he was VERY excited about. The property and lake was quiet and serene, very relaxing. Both docks require a number of steps to get down to them. The area designated as the beach area wasn’t really useable when were there because of goose poop. We had a lily pad and some other large floaties we tied off at the end of the dock and it made the perfect swimming area!

What an amazing experience our family had… we had 6 adults and 5 kids (age ranges 4-15) and we have some unforgettable memories of our time at Boulder Lodge. Our young boys loved catching bluegill off the dock & my teenage nieces had an incredible time tubing around the lake. My early morning coffee enjoyed from the kitchen overlooking the tall trees above the lake was something I’ll always remember. And the LOONS! What an amazing soundtrack to some breathtaking scenery. Highly recommend this historic and beautiful property!

The Heller family loved the fireplace and the pool table was a hit! We will definitely be planning another trip soon.

We had a wonderful time with our family enjoying ice fishing and all of the games downstairs. Cabin was beautifully updated. Only suggestion for improvement would be a new dishwasher. This one just doesn’t get the dishes clean. Other than that our stay was all we could hope for.

The lodge worked perfect for our group that was skiing in the Korte and Birkie. Scott and Dea were quick to respond to questions and the property had everything we needed for a multi family trip. We absolutely loved the setting on the peninsula. Several in our group snowshoed on the lake and nearby island. We can't wait for next year when we get to come back and do it again!

Limited Wi-Fi reception and peaceful surroundings! Couldn’t ask for a better way to disconnect.

The Iceholers had a great time fishing and making memories. The basement was cold but everything else was awesome!

Beautiful old lodge in secluded setting for 11 of us and 2 pets. Great winter views of forest and crappies biting through the ice. Plenty of space we needed for our group. We encountered some dripping from the ceiling in one bedroom from ice dams on roof, but owner responded quickly to have a crew clear this the next morning. Would love to return for a summer vacation.

It was a very nice home!

Exactly what we expected! All of us were able to have our own rooms. Can’t wait to return during the summer months!

We chose this lodge for our yearly family trip and were not disappointed. The grandkids had a fun time catching fish off the docks and we rented a pontoon from one of the local rentals. Campfires were a hit, our dog enjoyed all the new smells and the weather couldnt have been better. We recommend this lodge to anyone looking to get away from it all.

This lodge is a piece of heaven. Everything was as pictured. The lake itself is beautiful

We loved this rental. It was perfect for what we needed for our family. The bedrooms were spacious and the living room was huge, a great place to gather and let all the kiddos play. It also had tons of space outside and being on a peninsula gave us lake views from every direction. The owners were super quick to respond with any questions we had as well. Would highly recommend.

Came with our whole family of 5 grandchildren and had a great time. The lake is very pretty, we actually caught some nice bass, and lots of smaller sunnies. Plenty of towels, well equipped kithchen, lots of space. We would recommend this place.

My family enjoyed staying at Boulder Lodge. The lake is pristine and the kids had fun swimming, kayaking, and fishing off the dock. The lake is quiet and and serene, not much boat traffic. The cabin/lodge was clean and has a lot of history. Nothing but good things about this place. We will definitely be back at some point. If you are looking for a place with cell phone reception and high speed internet this is not the place for you. It was so great for the kids and us to unplug :) Thanks Scott and Dea!
