Welcome to East Wind.
When I was a teenager in the mid 70's we would boat over to Bald Head Island, up Cape Creek and go ashore near Bluff Island. It was a quick hike on a path first made in the Civil War, thru the maritime forest to body surf on East Beach. We had so much fun playing in the emerald green waters. The waves were perfect, a beautiful Conch found with even a short walk down the beach. Bald Head Island was undiscovered country: beautiful, wild, an adventure!
Guests are amazed by the privacy and beauty of our ocean front property. A 500 foot driveway leads to East Wind. Once there one will be surrounded by the natural beauty of Bald Head. East Beach to the front, Cape Creek to the back and a 40 acre private nature preserve to enjoy exclusively. Guests see expansive natural views like one would see visiting a ranch out west, except it's at the Beach!
Watch the sunrise over East Beach, enjoy a glass of wine while the sun sets over Cape Creek, or if one is so bold, take the private nature trail and see the Bald Head I grew up with in the 70's: beautiful, wild, an adventure.
The beach experience at East Wind is unmatched. With private beach access you're just steps away from the best beach on Bald Head, East Beach. The prevailing currents on East Beach keep the muddy Cape Fear water to the south, making the waters on the beach a beautiful emerald color on most days. Also, the prevailing southwesterly wind during the summer make for beautiful wave action. The wind blows against the waves holding the crest longer. Since East Wind is at the end of East Beach drive, our property provides the most private beach experience on Bald Head Island. It's amazing.
If one likes history, you will feel right at home at East Wind. Our cottage is decorated with period antiques and has an extensive seashell collection. A cannon from 1525 guards the driveway (earliest known example of a bronze cast cannon recovered from a new world wreck. Seen in picture below). Four bedrooms, each with a private bathroom, are decorated in soft pastel colors. Three bedrooms have a queen bed. One bedroom has a double bed. Each bedroom occupies a corner of the house and provides both ocean and marsh views! The middle of the house has an open floor plan with a kitchen overlooking Cape Creek, a dining room in the center of the house, and living area with a large flat screen TV overlooks East Beach.
A bonus downstairs playroom makes for a great place to land in between trips to East Beach. The downstairs area has a nice living area, large flat screen TV, bathroom, and foosball table. This room was designed to have fun in! (Bonus playroom is connected to the house by outside stairs so it is suitable for older children or supervised younger children.)
East Wind has three golf carts, two 4 passenger golf carts, and one two passenger golf cart 'truck' great for grocery store runs, four bikes, 6 beach chairs, paper products, linens, wine / drink refrigerator etc. Temporary membership in the Shoals Club or BHI club is available for separate purchase by guest.
East Wind is a cottage and is perfect for small parties of 6 or less. We do not accept reservations for parties larger than 6.

East Wind has a great combination of privacy, beautiful views from all sides, and a well maintained house. We ate many of our meals on the covered front porch, with amazing oceanfront views and a constant breeze. We enjoyed sunset views over the marsh and explored the private nature trail.
The house was well stocked with everything we needed. Best golf carts and bikes that we've had on BHI. Our kids enjoyed having their own space in the basement. Ron is a wonderful host and provided detailed information prior to our arrival. We hope to return again in the future!

East Wind is a truly magical home and location. BHI is already remote and East Wind takes it a step further via its location as the Northeastern most home on BHI. The antiques in the home are a great touch and the books written the family that explain all of the pieces (and native wildlife) are great reads. Layout is great as well with a bedroom in each corner and a bathroom attached to each bedroom. The downstairs rec room is a bonus as well. The wraparound porch is great for viewing of the salt marsh (and sunsets over the marsh) the ocean, and the maritime forest off in the distance to the north. Amazing home and gracious host!

Very difficult to do justice to this house. It is everything you would hope for and more, because its not only the best located house on the island, it is extremely well maintained and the Owners make you feel at home. You will not only enjoy your vacation but also experience and learn a lot about Bald Head Island history. This home and everything in it and surrounding it are a true gem.

Wow! This is the best property on the island and it isn’t close. An absolutely one of a kind unique experience surrounded by nature. Being so close to the best beach on the island and a private nature trail is absolutely unbeatable. The house was one treasure after another. Ron was super attentive and a pleasure to work with. wonderful escape
If you love nature and the beach this is the place. Private location with both marsh and ocean just steps away. My teenagers loved having the downstairs room to hang out in. I have to admit I was a little nervous at first about all the antiques in the house but reading about the history of them was awesome. Very relaxing enjoyable week to get away from the craziness.

Most Beautiful Property on the Island!
If you're looking for seclusion, this house hits the mark. With the ocean accessible in the back via a short board walk, to dunes on both sides and the marsh in the front, this house offers the perfect views of everything Bald Head has to offer. The home is beautiful as well - 4 good sized bedrooms with views at every angle. Add to that, 16th century furniture and many historical artifacts that round out the house, or should I say, the home. The home is on 40 breath-taking acres. It offers a wonderful nature walk through the marsh. All in all, the best experience in Bald Head Island.

Its almost hard to believe this property exists. It is even better than the pictures in my opinion. Everything was well maintained and stocked. Rec room on first level is nice bonus. Views are unreal. Will be looking to book again next year.

Exceptional Experience
This home and its location made for an exceptional Bald Head experience for our family. I don't think we have had a better time in the 17 years we've been going to Bald Head. The home and its artifacts are fascinating. The nature trail and opportunity to learn about plants/animals was a great adventure. This home has everything you need. We like to cook and the kitchen was well stocked and user friendly. We ate dinner every evening at the dining table on the deck with incredible views. The owner gave great instructions that made our time at East Wind simple. Beautiful views, beautiful beach and wonderful, welcoming home. This place is what Bald Head is all about. I can't wait to return.

Outstanding Location
Our first trip to Bald Head Island was for the beach; we keep coming back for the marsh. Wake up to the sunrise on East Beach and watch the gorgeous sunsets over the marsh. Amazing Property and Great owner
We had a truly wonderful week stay on Bald Head Island at East Wind. The house's pristine location and direct connection to the nature preserve make it an "exclusive" stay that we will never forget. Ron's easy going nature and quick to help demeanor made the whole rental process easy and stress free. The house has more of the feeling of going to a relative's to stay rather than simply a furnished rental, everything gives you the impression that a family story lies behind each item and decoration. The walks on the nature trail and the fishing from the pier made my son very happy. The walks along the secluded beach made me very happy. We have stayed on Bald Head a number of times over the years but this will be the most memorable stay we have ever had.

Lovely!
Our family was privileged to stay at East Wind in early April. From the first phone contact with Ron until the last moment we were there, the experience was beyond expectations. Ron was friendly, informative and completely reliable in his communications. Very assuring when renting sight unseen from across the country. We walked into an immaculate, lovingly furnished home with the warmth and coziness of a favorite relative's home. It was full of interesting shell collections, books about local history and nature, and very cool antiques. Our daughter prepared a scavenger hunt for her 10, 8 and 6 year olds based on the notebook the owners had compiled about the wonderful nature trail. The ocean! Magnificent! The beach walks were heaven. A few short steps from the house. The listing and photos do a good job of representing the home, but it's even better "in person". The local food market is well stocked. "Old Baldy" was fun to visit with a beautiful view at the top of its 108 stairs. The turtle conservancy is a great place to visit, both for kids and adults. The foosball table was fun, and we all appreciated and enjoyed the golf carts. It felt like a lot of thought and consideration went into meeting the needs of vacationing families, and the house was well supplied. It was with reluctance that we said good-bye to this very special place, and we hope to be back.

Great week in July!
We loved staying at East Wind this summer! The beach was wonderful, the house amazing. We loved the antiques and the seashell collection. Everything about the house made you realize how many fun summers were had there. It was even more beautiful than in the pictures. Our 4 children adored the nature preserve. They explored daily and saw pelicans, egrets and a host of other animals in their natural habitat. A great sight for those of us usually stuck in the city. It was our 9th summer at Bald Head and East Wind made it the best one yet!

Best Ever
We have been taking vacations at Bald Head for 16 years. Its' natural beauty and privacy are what have always appealed to us. What we also love though is that each time we visit, there are new discoveries. I think we could spend a lifetime at Eastwind and not stop discovering! We have never enjoyed a house on Bald Head as we did Eastwind this past week. It truly must be the most perfect and unique property on the island being situated oceanfront and adjacent to the Middle Island marshes. The latter gave us private access to boardwalks and piers that provided fantastic bird and nature watching as well as best ever fishing. We enjoyed the tennis at Middle Island Club and we loved having 3 carts. Eastwind is a very clean, well cared for and comfortable home with each deck providing a spectacular view. This was our first time renting a VBRO property and the owner was wonderful to deal with. We can't wait to go back and give it the highest recommendation.

Your home is unreal and the property is seriously breath-taking. We walked in an everything was taken care of - coffee ready for brewing, water in the refrigerator, paper towels, etc, seriously everything. The bikes, the umbrella, the kids toys all ready for use was wonderful too. Last thing, but it's a big one... the apartment downstairs - WONDERFUL! When the kids woke up early we could take them down to play, watch tv, eat and everyone in the house didn't wake up. Thank you. We are thinking of coming back for one more week before school starts.

East Wind a true jewel
Imagine a place on the beach with uninterrupted vistas. East Wind is that. To the north are dunes extending the length of the island without a single house in view. To the west is the beautiful marsh and a few homes on Middle Island several hundred yards away. To the south are the adjoining houses on the street. The closest is 200 yards away. To the east is the ocean. Paradise with no real neighbors but the rest of Bald Head just a golf cart away.
The home is beautifully laid out with two bedrooms plus baths on each side of the main living and kitchen area. Would I recommend this home? Enthusiastically yes!!!
