About this house rental
This charming retreat sits at the top of Hickory Hill Road near Mirror Lake on a gorgeous 1.5-acre piece of property just a mile from the heart of downtown Highlands. The snug interior is a combination of heirloom/folk charm and contemporary amenities, including central air conditioning and furnace, Smart TV with live television, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO Max. Also, DVD player, washer/dryer, and a full-sized fireplace with ample dry firewood stored beneath the porch.
The house has three bedrooms – two twins, two queens, and a king – each with its own full bath. The two front bathrooms were recently fully renovated with walk-in showers. The modern master features a cozy king-size bed, expansive bath, walk-in closet, and its own deck. The dependable kitchen includes a classic stove and range, full-size refrigerator, and all you need to prepare a delicious meal.
The large screened-in back porch is where you will want to spend most of your time, listening to the wind rustle through the trees, hearing the birds sing, and breathing the clear mountain air. Enjoy a glass of wine while preparing steaks on the grill, or follow the path that leads to the secluded pond.
Spring and fall are great times to enjoy the front yard fire pit. Another option is to take a short walk down Hickory Hill to feed the ducks on picturesque Mirror Lake where you might also be inclined to cast a fly rod or cruise the serene waters in a kayak or canoe. Just beyond Mirror Lake is the new Highlands Plateau Greenway trail that will lead you on a scenic hike along a gorgeous nature trail, or directly into town if you are so inclined.

We enjoyed our stay. We were unclear on what to do

We stayed here for a family wedding that was happening in Highlands. The house was very clean, well stocked with anything we could need. The beds were all very comfortable. And we spent most of our time there enjoying the big screened in porch! It was a perfect place for us!

We enjoyed this beautiful 3 bed 3 bath home. It's was decorated nicely with room to spread out. Didn't really mind having to use the ice trays! We would absolutely rent this home again. Locked ourselves out and the owner was very helpful when I contacted her.

My family and I stayed here for a wedding--it was perfect. The house is lovely with a lot of interesting art and decorations. We did have a toddler, so we took a minute to child-proof and put some beautiful but breakable things up higher! We are already planning our next trip and hope to stay here again!

Highlands family home full of folk art and memorabilia. Updated bathrooms and very comfortable bed in main bedroom. (Did not try others). Great screen porch for rainy Highland days. Very convenient location

It was the perfect house for a weekend stay! Spacious rooms with a bathroom in each, and the highlight was the peaceful back porch where we spent most of our time. The location of the house was also great with an 8 minute drive from downtown. Would absolutely recommend!

There were 3 couples in our group attending a wedding in Highlands. The property was wonderful and perfect for our group. Having 3 bathrooms was ideal and LOVE the back porch. Would absolutely stay again!

So peaceful…after a rough day hiking we brought food in and had dinner on the back porch. Wives loved the added touches and pottery accessories. Definitely 5 stars

We’ve stayed here several times. It’s out top pick.

We had a wonderful stay here and would have liked for it to be longer! The house is warm and inviting and well furnished. It is very roomy, with three bedrooms and separate in-suite baths, much more a real home than some mountain cabins in the area. The large screened-in porch on the back is delightful, and a special memory of the trip was sitting out there during a heavy rainstorm. In addition, we have always loved the Mirror Lake area, which is a great area for walking around, and it was a pleasant surprise to learn that there is actually a trail (paved most of the way) that can be taken right into town. We would definitely stay here again and look forward to the next time..

Great Getaway to Beat the Heat
We were a group of ladies on a golf trip and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The back porch was such a great place to relax and visit. Loved the primitive artwork and pottery collection. Convenient location to shops and dining but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. Very comfortable beds!

Tranquil
I absolutely loved the house. It is exactly what the listing says. Property is beautiful. Easy to walk from car to house ( I’m 73).
My favorites were the sound system, back porch , pottery, art work and retro kitchen.
I’ve been renting in highlands for this weekend for 30 years and this is the best yet!

We were gone a lot during the day, but enjoyed it during the mornings. Perfect location to town kitchen Well stocked even though we ate out most of the time. It was 50’s era cottage perfect house for our family. We will be back

Needs attention
I really wanted to like this property as the location is very convenient but it needs some TLC. The house is dark with a very musty smell and looks like it hasn’t been updated since built (1960’s?). Dirty, stained area rug and bath mats in master bed/bath and black mildew/mold on the bedroom ceiling. We did not use the other bed and bathrooms as there were only two of us. A good deep cleaning and updating would go a long way in bringing this house up to standard. I will not rent this again until done so.

Awesome Vacation Rental
This is a beautiful house and location. Kitchen was stocked so well. Beautiful screened in porch. Private lot, nice big backyard, washer and dryer were great. I highly recommend this place!!

Great screen porch!
Beautiful and quiet setting with a screen porch and yard to enjoy! We loved sitting on the porch and listening to the birds. We were also thankful that there was plenty of parking and it is easy to get in and out of the driveway. Our only concerns were that the light switches in two of the bedrooms do not work so you have to cross the room in the dark to turn on the light and the fact that the showers are only bathtub/shower combinations which caused trouble for my elderly mother. Overall it was a great month in the mountains!

Great place, love the art. Love the back porch and surrounding grounds!
A very nice place to stay when in Highlands! The master bedroom is on other side of house from the other two bedrooms, so nice to have a place to retreat from the noise of family gatherings.

Cute Mirror Lake Cabin
Loved the large screened porch, and the location close to town was very convenient.

Great place to relax with friends.
Mountain cabin atmosphere decorated with many antiques and interesting collectibles. Five stars in all categories except online description " overlooking Mirror Lake". After a thorough search, we located a small stream and a murky pool of water hidden in the underbrush along the back property line. This was a small disappointment in an otherwise great place to relax and enjoy our weekend. We would choose this house again when we come back to Highlands.

Great mountain getaway
My family really enjoyed our stay in Highlands! This is a nicely furnished, extremely clean 1950's era cottage. There was plenty of space for our family of 5, and our older kids enjoyed roaming around the large backyard. It was too cold for us to use the screened in porch, but we could imagine getting a lot of use out of it in warmer weather.

Great Christmas Getaway
We had a wonderful time in this cabin! It is old and some may call it outdated, but why go to the mountains and stay in a new, state-of-the-art house? This was exactly what we wanted! Check-in was a breeze, while others traveling with us had to jump through hoops to get keys for their rentals. The owners were only a call or text away, and made life very simple for us. The location of the cabin is out of the way (which we wanted), but still close to town, hiking and snow tubing. Due to the freezing temps, we were not able to take full advantage of the incredible back deck, but we will surly return in the early fall next time to do so!

Run down
House did not present as pictures. House mostly 50s and not updated. Had to kick open door to get onto back porch. Mildew on ceilings in living room and master bedroom. No blackout in the master. Dishwasher didn’t work. Driveway covered with leaves and no one ever came to blow the driveway clear. Back deck was covered also and not blown clean. No clocks in bedrooms or living room.No TV in master. No radio. No ice maker. No bath soap. Gas grill cooking grills were dirty.

What a great place in Highlands!
This property was much better than expected. The listing doesn't show how unique and upscale the furnishings, artwork, and decor are. The house is older, but it has been furnished to be wonderfully comfortable and well equipped. The three bedrooms were perfect for our group of 6 - with each having their own bath. Wonderfully comfortable beds with high quality linens. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and had the most gorgeous pottery. There was a lot of original artwork in the house and it was just fantastic. The property is large and private and super convenient to Highlands.

Highlands Mirror Lake Cottage
Clean, wonderful large back screned porch, private yard with charming small pond. Great Mirror Lake neighborhood. Convenient to downtown Highlands.

Mirror Lake
Want to be fair - location is fantastic and owner/property manager were the best. Inside of the house is dated. Clean, well cared for, but dated. I would go back in a second. But we were there for Thanksgiving and cooking/dinner was a little challenge. If it had been summer, there would have been no issues.
But overall - our stay was great. Responses were prompt and owners/manager were wonderful. BTW, the porch and yard are amazing. November trip didn't get to use it as much as we would have liked.

Screened Porch and Great Room was Wonderful but...
The location was excellent and the furnishings were comfortable and everything you'd hope for in Highlands, but I have to say the house needed a good cleaning, especially the kitchen and bath floors, and some tender loving care inside and out. I hope the owners give this sweet house the care it deserves because we loved the overall feel of it.
