About this house rental
OUR SUMMER WEEKS GO FROM MON TO SUN. QUESTIONS SEND AN INQUIRY. GLAD TO HELP
Rock of Ages has been sitting on the shores of Lake Erie since 1861. It is built of native, local limestone, and is listed on the National Historic Register. There simply is not another comparable home on Lake Erie. It is wonderfully unique and fun to explore. It is very solid (like a 'Rock') and in great shape, but we have renovated the first floor, creating a new Great Room and state of the art kitchen with everything needed to cook for and dine 30+ guests.
Rock of Ages overlooks the Lake Erie islands and is in the quaint village of Marblehead and is only a hop, skip, and a jump from the east gate of Lakeside (The Chautauqua of Lake Erie) in one direction and the historic Marblehead lighthouse in the other. The lighthouse is a spot of natural beauty and the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the Great Lakes.
We have traveled around the world and this is our favorite place on earth! Friendly, down-home people, great entertainment (at Lakeside and the islands), wonderful local history, great boating and fishing, Cedar Point, and the waves and the winds of Lake Erie, are constantly there. What a place! From Rock of Ages's tower room is one of the best views of Lake Erie in the area. Come and see!
Rock of Ages has a 120-foot spacious lakefront patio and three other patios with plenty of furniture for sunbathing, eating and gazing at the lake and watching the boats and ferry to Kelley's island. Of course, you can swim off the flat glacial rocks right in front of the house. A large sandy beach is a short drive away. We still have the original limestone fossil walkways from when 'The Rock' was first built. There is a large hot tub overlooking the lake.
We have plenty of room for the whole family (8000 sq. ft.) and lots of bed and bath options. There is a first-floor suite with a king bed and its' own bath for those who do not do stairs. On the second floor each of the five bedrooms has a king-size bed and a private bath. The third floor is great for kids. Six bedrooms surround a large common area with a large-screen TV.
There is one king bed, one queen bed, 5 full-size beds, 3 twins and 4 rollaways up there. The third floor bedrooms share a full size bath and two half baths. You have already heard about the view from the tower room! It has a kingsize bed, its' own bath, and a roof-top patio. Folks will fight over who gets to sleep there!
On the first floor as well as the kitchen and dining/great room, there is a living room with TV. The first floor also has two half baths. The lower level - not really a basement (it was the old summer kitchen) is a large game room area with a pool table, ping pong table, TV, half bath, and tables and chairs. There is a backyard patio with two large grills. Rock of Ages has a large parking area to accommodate big groups.
Although it is wonderful in the summer with the windows open and the lake breezes, we do have air conditioning. Rock of Ages can be used year round and the lake in all its glory in the winter with ice and snow is something else!! It is a great place for business or church groups or special interest retreats and seminars, for example birders or artists.
Our rates are for the entire property, not per person as in an inn or bed and breakfast. NOV- APRIL (With the exception of the holidays). I offer up to half off the regular rate, depending on the size of the group. Please send an inquiry for more details and a quote. I am very glad to answer any questions, I know it can be a big job planning for a large group or family.

There were 22 of us. The littlest girls loved their “pinky” room. There are lots of stairs, so the oldest were very happy to have a first floor suite. But you do have to be able to navigate some stairs. The kitchen was extremely well stocked! The outdoor spaces will remain in our memories for many years! There are quirks in the house that were unexpected surprises. We loved our time at Rock of Ages!

Our family of 20 had a wonderful time at Rock of Ages. The house was extremely comfortable. We took advantage of every floor in the house and thoroughly enjoyed our family dinners together in the kitchen/dining area. The weather cooperated our entire visit so we enjoyed the bbq grills, the outdoor seating and even took our family pictures on the front porch staircase. Highly recommend this property! Marla is a peach to work with.

So spacious, the scenery was beautiful, host was great, definitely would choose this place again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the rock of ages and had a tremendous time! Would recommend to anyone who wanted to stay up by Lake Erie with a large group of people.

Our group of 30+ people had an AMAZING time in this beautiful home with breath taking view of Lake Erie. The house was so well stock with everything and there was plenty of space for all of us. The game room was definitely a hit since we mostly stayed inside Saturday since it rained. Our group managed to finished one of the 1000pcs puzzle with 1 missing piece. We will definitely be back and Thank you to Marla for always being responsive.

Was a very enjoyable weekend with family and friends who traveled to Marblehead for my daughters wedding.

Our book group loved Rock of Ages! Beds we’re comfortable and the waves were so relaxing! Much needed weekend away! We can’t wait to come back! Only downside is that we came during big season so they got into the house, but we didn’t notice them much.

Everything thing was great except the neighbors who kept calling the cops. Speed limit is 25 mph but neighbor posted their own signs to read 10mph. However our visit from the cops was a pleasure and told us that information.

ROCK OF AGES was a perfect place to hold our family vacation. It easily accommodated our group of 30+ with room to spare. The property is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need…especially the kitchen! The lake front outdoor space was peaceful and private. The owner responded quickly to any inquiries we had. Would definitely recommend it!

Very spacious house with gorgous views of the lake. We had 28 family members ranging from 3 months to 85 years and we never felt crowded. There was plenty of table space at meals. Kitchen was stocked with everything you could possibly need, including large pots. Large trees provided great shading. Local shopping and a winary within walking distance. Easy access to the water. You have beautiful views of the sunrise and sunset from the whole house, especially from the eagles nest.
Only suggestion is to update majority of the mattresses.

This property is very charming. The owner's have made an effort to keep the orginial sections as much as possible while adding newer amenities.
The kitchen is one of the best rentals our family of 20+ has seen. There are enough dishes, large pots etc. to perpare meals for this many people. One note, the main floor bedroom does have stairs to access from the kitchen. This is a great property for large groups.

Rock of Ages was a great venue for our family reunion of 20 plus folks. Marla was a fantastic communicator and made everything easy. House was well stocked with every kitchen utensil we needed for large group cooking and the vistas on to Lake Erie were amazing. Marblehead is a great little vacation town. Highly recommend.

The Rock of Ages is an amazing “home” directly on Lake Erie. It easily accommodates 30 + people of all ages. The kitchen has multiple of everything (even 2 dishwashers!) and is beautifully maintained. The lawn is large enough for multiple yard games. We saw beautiful sunsets and sunrises over the water. It is a perfect place for a large gathering!

Just a great place for a large family gathering.

Loved the property! Fully stocked with all the essentials – such as soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and including makeup remover wipes. As everyone has said – the views of the lake REALLY are awesome. Who knew there was a place like this in Northwest Ohio?! Nice to see an old property kept up and well maintained. I hope it makes it to 2061!

This was the second year our family reunion Thanksgiving was at Rock of Ages. It is the perfect place for our large group; the bedrooms are comfortable and private, the kitchen is open, large, and very well equipped. The view is fantastic and with the nice weather this year, we were able to enjoy the outside as well.

This house is "unbelievable" in every imaginable way.. The home is very historical-built in 1861. It is very large with high ceilings and spacious rooms and the inside is beautiful. It has been modernized in every way to satisfy all age groups.
The fact that it sits directly on Lake Erie with a large frontal property line makes it so enjoyable to not only swim and kayak as we did, but also to just watch the unobstructed view of Lake to view the sunrise, the sky and the many ships, boats and sailboats from the yard or from the many rooms that face the lake.
It has all the amenities a modern family could want. Since the actual beach is rocky, all sunbathing can be done in the beautiful yard area.
Our children and grandchildren loved it. This was the finest rental house we have ever stayed in.
I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for the ultimate location for a family reunion.

Our family had a great time. Twenty nine out of 31 attended at one time or another throughout the week. Couldn't have had a better time. The views are amazing and you can tell much thought has gone into making a stay fun with many things to do but still relaxing when you need quiet. One thought - the tower bedroom - hard for tall people to use.

What a beautiful place and location. Had room for all 30+ at the reunion and everyone was very happy. Would definitely recommend to anyone. Well done.

This property is amazing! The pictures do not do this house justice. It has everything! My guests enjoyed the historical home and enjoyed the modern amenities. We all loved having our morning coffee outside on the lakeshore and falling asleep to the sound of crashing waves. My family from Massachusetts kept saying, "I can't believe this is Ohio!" They said it was better than their summer homes on the Cape. The kitchen and common areas are all spacious and comfortable, allowing everyone to mingle and relax with the stunning lake views. Everyone is already checking out dates for a future stay! The host is beyond helpful and welcoming. Looking forward to our next booking with her.

We hd a group of 7 family’s staying for a local sports tournament. All adults had bedrooms with en suite bathrooms which was great! 3rd floor was perfect for kids. Grounds/yard are beautiful with plenty of space for activity and seating and beautiful lake view. Kitchen is super stocked! Absolutely everything you need is there! Far exceeds any rental we’ve stayed in for items stocked including bath towels, beach towels, paper products, everything you may need! Host communication was exceptional as well!

Great historic property right on the lakefront. House was clean, organized and the kitchen was fully stocked. Only thing that needs an upgrade are the mattresses which are old and not the most comfortable. Besides the older bedding, I would recommend this to friends and family.

This is what was happening - all at the same time:
2 Kids in basement playing ping pong
2 kids in basement playing pool
3 kids in basement playing dungeons and dragons.
One person playing the piano.
6 people playing a game by the fireplace.
5 people reading / crossword puzzles facing the lake
6 people playing another game around half of the dining room
4 people cooking
2 people watching the soccer game on tv.
3 people doing a puzzle
People were outside in the front, back, side, hot tub.
No group bothering any other group.
AND: if he people napping couldn’t hear a thing from the rest of the house.
32 people in one house for a week. Never a line for a bathroom. Everyone had privacy. Plenty of places to congregate.
I almost don’t want to give it such a good review for fear I won’t be able to get a reservation for our next reunion!!
The owner is filled with love for the house and is super organized. My family loves me for finding this gem!!

Great location. Lake Erie is in backyard. Very peaceful. Property is well maintained. We will be back.

We loved staying at the Rock of Ages. The house is huge with so much room to spread out. We came with our 5 kids ages 13-20. There was so much to do in the house alone from playing pool and ping pong to hanging out in the hot tub over looking Lake Erie. The kids LOVED having their own bathrooms and nearly every bedroom has its own!The location is great - right on the water in a quiet neighborhood. A 2 minute walk to the town with a few cute shops and winery. We enjoyed shopping local for the holidays and all the shop owners were so friendly. It's about a 15 min walk to the lighthouse, which is beautiful. We also found some trails within driving distance to for walks in. The bigger stuff - groceries, liquor stores, etc. are also just a 10-15 min drive away. The house is fully stocked with everything you could possibly need for cooking - which we enjoyed since we prepared a huge thanksgiving feast.Marla was a great host and answered our questions very quickly. If you are looking for a large, open space with lots to do in a very unique setting, this is the place for you. I can only imagine how amazing it is in the Spring & Summer!

The location and views are amazing! There were plenty of plates, towels, cleaning supplies etc for a very comfortable stay. Marla was very quick in responding to any queries. There were two of dishwashers, toasters, refrigerators, and many more kitchen equipment for entertainment of a big group. Overall, we had a great time.

The "Rock of Ages" was a wonderful place to connect as family, the only downside was having to leave .

There were 23 of us. This house accommodated each of us with plenty of space. The common area of the kitchen and dining areas were perfect for our group. We cooked meals together with a fully stocked kitchen. The bedrooms were a wonderful size and were quiet, in fact some of our group were singing karaoke downstairs and the bedroom above could not hear a peep! The house was remarkably clean! Like no dust bunnies and every room and bathroom was taken well care of. The house is right on the lake so the sunrises and sunsets were beautiful each day. We walked to the shops and winery in town. Definitely going back to the house with our group next year.. The house was perfect for us!

We started having family reunions years ago and this was the nicest house we've ever rented. The kitchen is great and well stocked with cooking and serving ware. This is one of the first times we could all eat in the same room at the same time. We had a wonderful week!

What a great place for our extended family gathering. It was so wonderful to see the cousins in the kitchen preparing dinner, to sit outside and watch the gravel ships, and eat altogether.
