About this house rental
Classic Garden District Greek Revival home built in 1898, The Byrnes House has all the classical architectural details - fluted Doric Columns in a double gallery, Grape leaf and bow frieze, small pediment, triglyph entablature with large dental molding. Inside are 13 ft ceilings, huge windows, plaster medallions, giant pocket doors, etc.; renovated and updated with all modern conveniences.
In addition to the great architecture, the location simply cannot be beat. The Utne Reader listed the Lower Garden District #1 on their list of the Hippest neighborhoods in the US. Surrounded by restaurants, bars, antique stores, and unique shops, you will find this to be a most interesting neighborhood. PLUS, one block to the Saint Charles Ave streetcar, and you are a short ride to the Warehouse District, French Quarter, Canal Street, the River Walk, Mid-City, City Park, Museums, Universities, Audubon Park - everything great about New Orleans. Oh yeah, did I mention that the Mardi Gras parades pass one block away on St. Charles Ave.?
This historic building was home to 3 generations of accomplished men of the Byrnes family. Col. William H. Byrnes was born in Ireland in the year 1845. He came with his parents to America when a boy, and ultimately ascended to the presidency of the Hibernia Fire Insurance Co. Five successive governors of the state of Louisiana gave him the rank of Colonel on their military staffs. William H. Byrnes, Jr., was a Louisiana Senator who introduced legislation establishing Loyola University of New Orleans. William H. Byrnes, III, was the Chief Judge of the Louisiana 4th Circuit Court of Appeal.
***Note: Access to Bedroom #4 is through Bathroom #3 and up a set of narrow stairs. It may not be appropriate for the elderly, infirm, or toddlers. However, it is great for a gaggle of kids, or anyone else who wants a quiet, isolated space. ***

Beautiful historic home in a great location. Big well-stocked kitchen and comfortable gathering spaces. As other reviewers noted, there is exposed ceiling in one of the bedrooms, and the house could use some instructions/ labels for the alarm, TV, even some of the lights. AC worked great, and gated parking was a plus.

the greek revival is a gem. spent 3 nights in the house with six of my friends. all loved it. Maintaining such an old house with modern amenities is no joke and must not be cheap either. Hats off to the owner. House has abundance of everything you need. towels, spices, tea, coffee, pillows etc etc

The Byrnes House was the perfect stay for our family in New Orleans. The house is located in the Garden District full of beautiful homes and great restaurants. It was fun to explore this area and stay in a clean quiet area for our family. Then when we were ready to hit the busy French Quarter, it was less than a 10 minute drive or a quick hop on the trolley to be in the middle of it all.
The home was well furnished and so spacious as well as generous with its supply of sundry items. Dave the manager was a wonderful host. He had the home ready which included a baby crib and baby gates for the stairs.
We have stayed in many towns in many homes and this home is one of our new favorites!

We had a great stay. The house is big and beautiful. Its does need some maintenance and a deep clean. We would stay again, hopefully some of the not so great things would have improved.

The Byrnes House was the perfect accommodation for our family of eight in the Lower Garden district. Plenty of room, modern, well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms. One block from the St Charles streetcar, which took us right down to the French Quarte Walked all over the area - enjoyed heritage homes, great restaurants. Very safe. Some traffic at peak times, but otherwise very quiet.

While we are local, we stayed here for my daughters wedding so the whole family could stay together. The location was amazing and the host were always accessible and responded to all of our needs.

This house brought all the pleasant quirks typical to New Orleans. It's a very spacious and convenient place that I would love to stay at again! The host was very generous in letting us check out at our own leisure. My friends and I had a wonderful jazz fest experience staying there!

This is a lovely property in a great area of the Lower Garden District. The home could use a bit of maintenance and some upgrades to it. Nothing that should prohibit a comfortable stay but would add to the overall experience. Also, some more information provided onsite such as tv controls, alarm controls etc would be appreciated.

Fine old garden district. Lots of bedroom capacity. We were very comfortable. Off street protected parking. Landlord readily available. A great family memory builder.

I stayed at this house with a group of 8 for a bachelorette party and it did not disappoint. The pictures do not do the house justice- it is so much larger and beautiful in person. The location was perfect. David was such an accommodating and communicative host, and the house was stocked with linens and even extra toiletries in case we forgot anything. Aside from some mold on a shower curtain upstairs, the house was clean and we would love to stay again someday. Thank you so much!

We picked this property due to its close proximity to the Irish Channel Parade route during St. Patrick's Day weekend. We were also celebrating a 50th birthday party so we were going to have friends popping in an out, as well as attending the parade. David's house was a perfect backdrop to a perfect weekend. It oozes old world New Orleans charm. The location was perfect for walking to St. Charles Street and Magazine with no shortage of places to eat and drink. The house itself was made for entertaining with plenty of space downstairs with two gathering rooms and a decent sized kitchen and eating area. High ceilings really open up the space. The beds were very comfortable. The grand balconies provided plenty of relaxing moments people watching on the streets. We had one very small issue related to the internet, and David was quick to come out and correct the issue. We will definitely look to stay here again.

This home is a delightful taste of living in the historic Garden District and was very accessible to the Quarter, Downtown, Uptown sites and I-10. Magazine street restaurants and shopping just a 5 minute walk, as well as other stately GD homes. My favorites were the very high ceilings, chandeliers, tall windows and original polished wood floors. A very well equipped and clean home.

Great Historical Home in the Garden District. Close to great shopping and restaurants on Magazine Street.
House is grand and charming. Does need some TLC (scuffs and chips in paint; cracked transom window over front door; plaster falling off ceiling in middle upstairs bedroom). Besides these things we loved staying at the house. It accommodated 10 people easily.

We came to town for my daughter’s wedding, and we were delighted with The Byrnes House. Spacious rooms and comfortable furnishings were perfect for family to gather. The space easily accommodated the bride, mother of the bride and ten bridesmaids getting ready on the day of the wedding. We especially appreciated the beautiful natural light from the large windows, and the many mirrors throughout the home. The natural beauty of the house was perfect for photos of the bride and wedding party. The kitchen was well appointed making it easy to provide snacks and meals throughout our stay. The location was awesome to catch some Mardi Gras parades during our stay, and convenient to great shops and restaurants. The owner was easy to contact and responsive to our questions. I would definitely stay at this property again!

The house overall was charming. Lots of unique and a few quirky qualities that come from being built over a century ago - for us, part of the fun. Kitchen has been updated and was well appointed, which was important to us as we were traveling with family.
The location was fantastic. Quick walk to Magazine with lots of restaurants and shops. Also a quick drive to the French Quarter.

The house is better than the photos really show. It was more spacious then I expected. The location is fantastic. We walked to the street car daily for easy transportation. We walked easily to magazine street.
The owners were responsive. Parking availability is a plus. All ages had a great time. Our group of 6 ranged from 11-45 an there were more than enough beds. Someone with mobility difficulties might have trouble with stairs. There was plenty of space to spread out. Linens were fantastic. Laundry availability a plus. Well stocked for toiletries made it much easier for travel. It felt like a vacation.

Lovely historic home with amazing curb appeal in the lower Garden District! Location is wonderful - just a few blocks to Commander's Palace and the Garden District home tours. The kitchen is well-stocked, with everything needed to cook a feast. David, the owner, is extremely responsive to even the smallest (and biggest) requests! All in all, a fabulous visit!!

Bring the family and enjoy a home away from home. Great location close to the trolley line and yet far enough way from things that you can relax and enjoy the splendor of Old New Orleans. And the host is easily accessible and responsive.

We were in NOLA for our daughters wedding. The house was amazing and Dave (owner) was so accommodating. We hosted a luncheon after and the house was alive with 36 people who loved the experience. We decorated for Halloween since it was that weekend, and it was perfect. Very comfortable and kitchen well stocked. Just perfect.

We stayed here two years ago to start planning our daughter's wedding, and came back this year to finally celebrate it. The house was absolutely perfect for hosting family and friends who stopped by before the event. Everyone commented on how charming and quitessentially NOLA the house is. It is well stocked, comfortable, and an easy walk to everything. David is very communicative and easy to work with. Highly recommend.

We were in town for my son's wedding and this was the perfect place for us. We have other family that live a few blocks away so we knew what to expect regarding the location. We were able to host a few of our out of town friends from time to time for conversation/drinks so this worked great. The house was a little dusty (looks like it might have been a bit since the last guests/cleaning), but we saw the cleaning crew in action upon our departure and they appeared to be doing a thorough job. We would stay here again if we needed to and it was available.

We had an amazing time saying in David's property. They provided lots of clean towels and essentials. They also had lighter comforters for us to use as needed. The home stayed cool and was a quiet stay in a quiet community. It was very close to public transportation and great shops and food on Magazine. I think one of my favorite things about the location was Rabbit foot coffee just a few blocks over. David was easy to communicate with and worked with us on check in and check out. Excellent place to stay.

David was the most hospitable host we’ve had at a VRBO. There were so many amenities including Q-tips women’s and men’s deodorant, soaps, shampoos, conditioners, face cream, body lotion, makeup wipes, toothbrushes, toothpaste, even pink toothbrushes for kids! There was over 40 clean towels available, and the pantry was stocked with salt pepper, spices, oil and butter so we could make a couple dinners at home while on vacation without buying basics.
He truly treats his customers like guests in his home. He offered us a short history of the amazing Burns house while we were staying there and gave us recommendations for his favorite New Orleans Cajun lunch places. He is a true native and we really appreciate his attentiveness and care.

We loved our stay! The house is gorgeous and comfortable. We loved and chandeliers & spending time on the porches looking at the live oak trees. David, our host, was very accommodating & super helpful. He even helped get our groceries in the house when they arrived before we did. We would love to stay there again sometime.

David went far beyond what a normal VRBO home owner. His communication and kindness were appreciated. This was our first time staying with David, but not our last. The house is perfectly situated in the Garden District walking distance from parks, restaurants, history and culture. He was terrific at helping us to access the home and kind enough to let our luggage hang out a little longer than we anticipated.

This property has it all...location, amenities, style and new orleans old school grace. The rooms were all lovely and well appointed to make our stay as comfortable as can be. The location is perfect with the streetcar stop minutes from the front door. Thank you for a gracious and lovely stay.

This property was perfect for a family wedding. We came to town to visit with family and this rental had space and was convenient location for the festivities. The property was maintained and the owner was super helpful. Made the process super easy.

This house is authentic Garden District elegance. The way our Host David, anticipated our every need was just the icing on the cake. Our family was beyond comfortable in this beauty of old New Orleans. Our teenagers were so happy to have their own space in the attic of the house that accomodated their morden tastes without losing the general charm of the rest of the house. We have stayed in many different places in New Orleans and this is by far our favorite. Cannot wait to come back!

House was the classic Garden Dist look we hoped for and found. PLENTY of room for the 7 of us with much more to spare. Any amenity we needed was there. Rabbits Foot store and café a block away was amazing. A short walked to Commanders Palace for dinner. 1 block to the street car and within 15 min your in the quarter with a weekly $15 unlimited pass for the trolley, buses, and the ferry. 4 bocks to Magazine and anything you want. 5 min walk to Tacos and Beer for $1 Taco Tues with some good stuff.
On the support:
Asked about a Bluetooth speaker connection before arrival and David went out and install a logic link to the stereo right as we arrived so we could play anything we wanted from anyone's phone.
Coffee grinder worked but was partial broken and a new one arrived the next day after reaching out.
Thanks Davis and we thoroughly enjoyed the place and our family time together in your home!!!

This was the perfect house to experience NOLA. I’m so glad I didn’t hesitate. There were 5 of us celebrating my daughters 21st birthday. Right in the garden district, It was the perfect location for exploring and walking about. Magazine street is so close. That was the favorite for us. And only 20 minutes from the airport.
The house is beautiful, has everything you need and more. You feel like you are part of the city, even though you are just a guest. It was amaze!!
This was one of the best trips we’ve ever been on.
I love this property and the memories we created.
Rent the house!!!!

9 of us (3 families) stayed over a weekend of Mardi Gras parades and it was great. The location 1 block from St. Charles made setting up for the parades so convenient. The weather wasn’t ideal so it was easy to run back to the house to warm up or get dry. We loved the porches and the first floor living area the most. Quirky New Orleans home that was just what we were looking for.

Our family of 8 with ages from 18 to 76 years had a perfect stay! Our large group could spread out comfortably, and we especially appreciated the ample kitchen and bathroom supplies. The location is perfect for visiting the Garden District, Magazine Street restaurants and shops, and of course, the French Quarter. David is an excellent host, and always quickly available to answer any questions. Highly recommend!
