About this house rental
We’ve lovingly remodeled close to 90 percent of this home, which is a private South West Ridge Road residence with five bedrooms and three and a half baths. After a hard day of skiing, hiking or biking know that you’ll come back to one of three queen sized pillow-top beds or two very kid/teen/tween-friendly bunk rooms each with both twin and double beds. The back two bedrooms each have access to the large second level deck where you can take in the view of the sunset, valley or some of the frequently visiting deer. Bathe in one of two spa-like bathrooms with heated floors and custom tile. One bathroom has an oversized shower, the other a jetted Jacuzzi tub for soaking weary bodies. High-quality towels and linens are included in the rental fee.
Climb to the top floor to the huge main living area and be awed by the view! (It is, in all honesty, what made us fall in love with the property.) French doors will take you out to the newly built third level deck where dinner and drinks can be served in the warmer months. If dining outside isn’t an option, don’t worry. Our huge dining table comfortably seats twelve (or more!) guests and still has a west-facing view. The well-appointed kitchen features stainless steel appliances, microwave, blender, crockpot, coffeepot (or a French press if you want to be fancy) and plating for twelve. Fire up the cast-iron gas fireplace and cuddle up on the large sectional couch to watch a movie or game on the 55” HD TV with 100+ DISH Network channels and a DVR. It’s not far from the couch to the custom-made, hand crafted, one-of-a-kind bar. (If that seems like too many descriptors, you won’t think so when you see it. It is a stunning piece.) Behind the bar is a sink and small wine refrigerator to keep reds cool or whites cold. We’ve got games and books to occupy guests of all ages. Take a seat in one of our UVA rockers to read a book, study a trail map or just soak in the West Virginia skyline. Finishing out the top level is a large half-bath.
The basement level boasts one of those two bunk areas; a foosball table and mini-fridge (for intense matches); a full bathroom; and a media room with projector, 96 inch screen, gaming system, and surround sound. After an active day, this is where you want to watch movies or play video games.
Condo rentals can be crowded, noisy, and check-in is often a bear. That’s not the case at the ‘Hoo House. You’ll drive straight to the door, park in a private driveway that easily holds six mid-sized vehicles and type your unique access code into the door. Snowshoe’s free shuttles will collect you at the top of the driveway and take you to and from the village with just a phone call. The house is about a half mile from the Western Territory slopes, so if you and your ski/snowboard boots are up for the “hike” the slopes are within trudging distance.
This is our beloved home away from home, so we’ve included many handy features like USB ports in many of the outlets throughout the house, a Sonos sound system that can connect to any smart device for playlist listening (with a free APP), and free Wi-Fi. Additionally, we are a family with young children, so the house also has a baby gate, highchair, two Pack –n- Play cribs (and sheets), toys, books, kid-sized dining implements and other assorted kid-related necessities. We know traveling with kids involves a lot of stuff. Because you’re wise enough to rent the ‘Hoo House, you no longer have to jam your vehicle full of said stuff. We want to keep our home family friendly, so we insist that our home be pet and smoke free.

Despite the collegiate name, this is not a college party house; minimum age for rental is 25 years.

Cabin was beautiful and clean! We did have problems with the double doors in the living room not opening! Also the coffee put leaks! Owners very responsive!

We enjoyed our 5th time staying at Amy and John’s. We had a few issues but they are always quick to respond and help is navigate things that happen when it’s below 0 in a mountain! Just make sure to check all the front doors to make sure they are locked tight, as high winds can blow them open if not! Looking forward to coming back next year!

We can’t say enough about this property! Everything and more than anticipated. Perfect size for our large family. Location was awesome, shuttle service worked out very well and the view was breathtaking! We enjoyed watching movies in the theatre room after a long day of skiing and snowboarding and playing games at the huge dining room table! Kitchen had high-end appliances and had everything we needed! Of course, being greeted in the morning with several inches of fresh snow added to the weekends enjoyment! We will definitely be back!

Great home to gather with family and friends. Great location; with easy access to the village via shuttle that picks you up at the driveway if you don’t want to drive. The home is very spacious and has all the essentials. Amy was very responsive and accommodating. I will definitely book again in the future.

This house was a perfect fit for our group. The convenience of having the shuttle come directly to the house was great! We had young kids in our group so it was nice that the house came equipped with some baby items (pack n plays, bouncers, toys, etc) The owners were very quick to respond to all my messages before and during our stay. I highly recommend this property and would definitely rent again!

This is our second time staying here. It is wonderful home situated on the side of the mountain close to the Village at Snowshoe. Gresat house with plenty of room to spread out. The ski shuttle picks you up and drops you off on a regular basis and if you would like you can walk to the end of the road and drop in or out on a run. No doubt an excellent place to stay if you are there for a Winter or am thinking Summer visit.

Family getaway
Me and my family enjoyed the property very much. It was nice and open. The owners were super helpful with anything we needed. And the kids loved watching movies down stairs when we weren’t on the slopes. The views from the porch are also breathtaking in the evening.

4th Time Staying - love this property
This was our fourth time staying at the Hoos House. Plenty of space for our whole family to space out and kids to play. Plenty of towels and wash cloths. Owner is always great to talk to and quick to respond to questions.

Beautiful family mountain getaway!
The house was big enough for an extended family thanksgiving vacation, including a very well-equipped kitchen (pots, pans, everything else we needed short of a can opener!), lots of space, incredibly close access to the ski resort, and, as advertised, gorgeous mountain views. The hosts reached out to us ahead of time, and were gracious in answering our questions and providing tips. We couldn’t figure out how to operate the gas fireplace stove, but the downstairs theater room made up for that!

Snowshoe wedding weekend
first time to Snowshoe, enjoyed our stay at Hoo House with the family......close proximity to the venue and shuttle worked out too....well setup for small children, used the pack-n-play, toys and nice little playground plus movie room for the kids. Adults got to hang out on the 3 porches and enjoy the mountain vista's, big dining room table and hi-chair came in great too, beds were comfortable, and plenty of space...played foosball one night too. Just for feedback, the home could use some cosmetic work painting etc., it was clean but the appearance made it less appealing than the pictures......the kitchen had a broken drawer face (which i fixed back best i could with what was on-hand, had no toaster, no paper towels, there was also a broken picture and frame left in one basement window.......overall I'd give it five stars as it certainly met our needs and the owner was great to work with, Thanks for having us.

Summertime family fun at the Hoo House
We truly enjoyed our time at the Hoo House. There was plenty of room for our gathering of 6 and nice amenities for our 2 yr old. (brought our own gate for top of stairs which was a necessity) The views from the floor to ceiling windows facing the awesome mountains of WV were a daily delight. Sunsets were breathtaking. Keep in mind there is no AC so summer rental gets warm at times on the main living floor. More screens in the windows would help air flow to really cool things off overnight. You might want to consider bringing a fan along if you rent in the summer.
Our family loves to cook together and this was the best stocked kitchen we have encountered (needed to improvise to open a bottle of wine as no corkscrew was in sight – casualty of an earlier renter perhaps?) with ample space for preparing food . Nice large table for indoor dining or evening game time when enjoying time on the multiple decks was not an option. If you like outdoor games, we converted the driveway for a corn hole tournament and used the trees at the edge for our hammock. Even with these activities there was plenty of room for our 3 vehicles and bubble chasing by my grandson!
Linens were high grade and bathrooms on each floor add to convenience. Hand towels and more dish towels would be our only suggestion. Our family enjoyed the “movie room” in the basement for watching videos and playing games on the X Box. A fun night out at the fire pit introduced our 2 year old to his first marshmallows! The neighborhood doe wandered over to watch the festivities as well. We enjoyed watching her along with her fawns every day.
Amy was a joy to work with and answered all our questions/needs quickly. We would definitely rent here again!

Amazing Stay
Our group had a great visit to Snowshoe thanks to John and Amy! The place had an incredible view, was very clean and spacious, and extremely accessible to the mountain. John and Amy could not have been more communicative or helpful! We all wished we could’ve stayed an extra day, and will look to return soon.

The Hoo house was a great destination for my family to have their first ski vacation with new grandchildren. It has a very open floor plan, large spacious rooms, convenient bathrooms, beautiful views.

Great house!
We really enjoyed our stay! The house had plenty of room for our group. The kids loved the movie room and spent most of their time there, even just to play. It was wonderful to have the kids occupied while the adults relaxed. It snowed the whole time we were there, and we didn’t get to enjoy the full view until the last hour before we left, when the sun finally came out. Even so, we loved the yard, surrounding trees were beautiful and the deer were very friendly! Amy was great at communicating when our house was ready and quick to respond when we needed a plow to remove the wall of ice that the street plows created in front of the driveway. The shuttle was convenient and we didn’t have to use our cars until we left. All wheel drive was a must for leaving, though! We would definitely stay here again!

So much room for our family and beautiful views from balconies. Host was always available and courteous. We feed the deer out of our hands which was unbelievable. The cleaning of the place could be better but we had everything we needed. Loved our visit.

Excellent Vacation Home Away From Home
Beautiful home with gorgeous view on top of Snowshoe Mt. The owner was very informative of the house, places to eat and COVID restrictions for skiing. Our grandsons loved the toys, books, tree house and play room downstairs. They even built a snowman on the balcony! Our family of 11 enjoyed every minute with plenty of room to spread out and even relax when needed! Hope to stay again soon!

We had a group of 10 including teens and kids. We absolutely loved our stay. The weather was foggy and rainy so didn't plan long hikes or drives. However just enjoyed chilling in and walking in the clouds around the house. Fall colors were in peak and we couldn't have enough of it. We cooked all meals and had all utensils, cookware and table placing enough for 10 people. We didn't have to shop for any grocery but the Wildcat grocery store is very closely should you need any essentials. We very much wanted to enjoy the treehouse and fire pit but couldn't do so due to rain/drizzles. There is no cell service as in pretty much anywhere in WV Mountains. There is WiFI to keep you connected. We had an issue with WiFi for one day but not due to device but because of weather and all the fog. We contacted Amy to let her know and she tried contacting the provider. We still enjoyed the total detox for most of that day.Amy also called ahead of our trio and provided all the information about the property as well as things to do around including hikes.Kids made a stop-motion animated lego movie under name "Hoo-House Productions" and we all enjoyed the premier in the theatre room!! Things you can do in rainy weather.Only suggestion we can add is about having an exhaust fan in bathrooms.Overall a wonderful stay and we will certainly come back again.

The view from this property is absolutely impossible to describe, and pictures cannot due it justice. Every photo we took could be an amazing postcard. The owners are super friendly and helpful, and we loved every minute as did our kids!

Great kid friendly home
This home is lovely - lots of thoughtful touches and upgrades, including a movie theater room, wine fridge, and all the cooking tools you'd need. But for us, the best part was the kid-friendliness of the home - toys inside to play with, movies, and tree houses outside. This place was great for our first distanced getaway. Thanks!

Family Ski Trip
I was pleased with this house for our ski trip. It had plenty of room for all of us.
Once we arrived we did not have to drive our vehicles for the rest of our stay. The shuttle would pick us up and take us where ever we wanted to go. The view from the house is beautiful. Sledding down the drive was the best when the snow started to fall. I would absolutely rent this house again.
