About this house rental
PLEASE READ ALL INFORMATION PRIOR TO MAKING RESERVATION.
This Vintage home built in1900 was purchased as our family home in 1987 named Captain's Quarters in memory of my late husband, Riverboat Captain Mark W. Peters. Mark piloted the paddlewheeler Hiawatha, on the Mississippi River and gave guided tours on Lake Pepin. This is how the bedrooms came to be named. The Mississippi Room consists of a vintage style queen bed, electric fireplace and a private balcony. The Lake Pepin Room has a vintage style queen size bed and electric fireplace. The bedrooms have ceiling fans. In addition to the electric fireplaces and ceiling fans, the home has forced air heat and central air. Robes, towels, a shower mat and an extra blanket have been conveniently placed in each bedroom closet. The bathroom is conveniently located next to the bedrooms on the second level. The bathroom has a walk-in shower and a free standing soaking tub. On the main floor there is a washer and dryer available. The kitchen is fully equipped with an eat-in dinette and breakfast counter. It also includes a full size refrigerator with ice maker, range, dishwasher, microwave, 2-Way FlexBrew coffeemaker, toaster, mixer, slow cooker, and all the utensils and cookware needed to prepare a meal if you prefer to eat in. The dining room features a round oak table, gas fireplace, and French doors that open to a wraparound deck which has a charcoal BBQ grill, table and chairs. Living room has a Smart TV and Blu Ray Player. There is also a three season porch with board games, puzzles, books, and electric fireplace. Outside there is a small backyard patio and fire pit, room to play yard games. We provide four vintage style bicycles for your bike riding pleasure. (Available with advance request) Enjoy the peace and tranquility of a small town in a quiet neighborhood with off street parking for two vehicles only. Your visit may be filled with antiquing, wine tasting at area wineries, visiting the National Eagle center, golfing on one of the many golf courses, skiing or snowshoeing (snowshoes available with advance request) in the winter. Complimentary coffee, tea or hot chocolate available for relaxing on the deck or in front of the fireplace, a perfect way to end your day. My goal at Captain's Quarters is to make you feel welcome and comfortable and that when you leave you take a new memory to add to your life's journey.
For our guests' safety, we have a monitoring security light mounted at the exterior of the front door.

The house and decor was lovely. The only bad thing was going up the stairs every time you had to use the restroom.

My friend and I enjoyed being pampered with very gracious hosts who met us at their rental home to give us a tour of their exceptionally clean home and to explain how things work such as the tv, door lock.
We were given a basket of treats, mints and a rose by our bedsides, the coffee machine was set to go off in the morning at the time we needed, and a lovely note that made us feel very welcome was left.
The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. The hosts checked on us the following day to make sure we had everything we needed. We were even advised on what to do in case of a storm. Safety kit , flashlights, and weather radio was provided. We would definitely stay here again.

The hosts have really thought of EVERYTHING people would need in a home away from home - from fresh flowers, to flashlights to use outside at the fire pit, to fresh, delicious treats for us. They were very accommodating and attentive, making sure all was ok with us. We really enjoyed our stay and thank the hosts for their care and attention to detail.

The house was charming with many antiques. Beds were comfy. Denise had coffee set for us for the next morning and even chocolates in each bedroom. We went sailing on Lake Pepin which was thrilling.

Denise and Lyle were very communicative throughout our entire stay. They made sure that we had everything that we needed and we did. So many amenities, our first pot of coffee ready to go, cookies, charcoal for the grill, bath robes, games and books, everything you could want. The beds were very comfortable, and the bathroom was like a spa with a great soaking tub that unfortunately we did not have time to use. The only bathroom was located upstairs, which was not an issue for us, but might be for some. And as stated in the contract, there is an additional charge for more than two guests. Lots to explore in the area and Lake Pepin is only a short walk or drive from the house.

My Mom, Sister and I had fun get away girls weekend- took the self guided walking tour of the neighborhood- did some gourmet cooking and took a bath on the claw foot tub. We enjoyed the shops and boutiques, toured the laura ingals wilder museum in Pepin, WI and Lark Toys in Kellog. It was the perfect spot for a girls weekend- having three bedrooms was perfect- I could also see this home as a perfect spot for romantic get away- the hosts met us to show us the home - gracious hosts- they obviously put a lot of thought into this home. My sister and I stayed up late playing board games. We hope to visit again.

The property was great. The hosts were wonderful. Our flight was delayed and we did not get to the house until 3 am. They were there to meet us and show us around the house. We plan on renting again next summer. Thanks Denise and Lyle.

An absolute gem! A beautiful stay beyond words. Sits within a quiet neighborhood, this beautiful home is well taken care of and perfectly personalized. There are antiques throughout as well as modern touches, such as google and smart tv, blu-ray, and a record player.
The hosts have gone above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and welcoming. The pictures here can hardly describe the real life beauty of this lovely home. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. There are tons of things to do in the area between Lake City and Red Wing to keep busy. Although, the home and property have plenty of ways to relax and unwind. A 5+ rating!

Captain’s Quarters was wonderful for a “girls getaway “ for my two friends and me!! The entire house is well decorated and comfortable. The kitchen is very well equipped, the living room was comfortable and well appointed. Beds are very comfortable, and the bathroom is spacious and includes a lovely soaking tub as well as a shower.
The owner has taken great care in providing the “extra” amenities, like spa robes for luxuriating, an electric fireplace in nearly every room for ambiance and to take the chill off, if needed.
My friends and I agreed that we would certainly book the Captain’s Quarters again should we be in the Lake City area.

My sister and I were SO impressed with this beautiful home. The owners took care of every detail which went above and beyond our expectations. The house is well maintained, clean, and has everything and more that you might need or want. Special touches are everywhere from vintage record albums and record player to plush bathrobes and so much more. It is a very comfortable home and Lake City is a quiet, pretty town. We enjoyed some shops and restaurants, a paddle wheel boat cruise, a bike ride (bikes provided by homeowner) and simply relaxing at the house. We both would love staying there again. So glad we found this place.

Perfect spot for a Lake City visit
Thank you Denise and Lyle for a wonderful stay at your beautiful home. The house worked out so perfectly for a sisters getaway. We each had our own bedroom, and there was so much space to sit around and visit—whether it was the kitchen table, dining room table or with a glass of wine in the evening out on your patio. We loved the fact you had three classic Schwinn bikes for us to cruise through town on. (And that Lyle made a special trip back to the house just to help us adjust the seats!) Our favorite bike trip, though, was along the riverfront trail. The riverfront trail was also the perfect spot for a morning jog. And the location of your home made it perfect for a short side trip to Red Wing, where we spent some time shopping and hiking at Frontenac State Park and Memorial Park. All in all, your home with all its lovely decorations was the perfect spot for a relaxing trip. You’ve thought of everything that might be needed by your guests, from little treats to entertainment options to lots of travel information. We especially appreciated the recommendation for dinner at Kelly’s Lake House Grill on the River. Their outdoor patio and food were the best. Thanks again for your kind hospitality.

Our Second Stay
We enjoyed our first stay at Captain's Quarters so much last fall that we returned again for another quick weekend getaway. It's such a cozy home and considering that the weather was cold we knew it would be a perfect place to hunker down. We really enjoy eating meals, playing games, and listening to records by the indoor fireplace. The soaking tub is also perfect for maximum relaxation. It has everything you could possibly need and the hosts, Denise and Lyle are as kind and accommodating as it gets. There's something special about this place and we will certainly return again.

Perfect Retreat
My girlfriend and I were looking for a place within reasonable driving distance from our homes in the Twin Cities. We found the Captain's Quarters and couldn't be more pleased. The house is as cozy as it gets, making it almost hard to want to venture out much. We did get a great day hike in and then went back to the home for scary movies after a relaxing soak in the tub. The owners are incredibly kind and thoughtful and the home is a delight to relax in. We listened to records and cooked a hearty meal. We had everything we needed and more. Cannot wait to visit again. Highly recommended!

What a gem!
I had no idea I had rented such a beautiful place! A lovingly restored old home with so much charm, tons of space, the perfect oven for baking an apple pie and an amazing bathroom that made for a lovely spa-like retreat during our stay. So many little touches to make you feel welcome and even a chilled bottle of champagne to kick our anniversary weekend off right. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring Lake City and found way too many great places to eat. We will definitely stay again when we are in the neighborhood.

Blast from the past
The house is charming, comfortable and has a great kitchen. It is full of objects from the past. Particularly the 50's and 60'd. Remember LPs and DVDs. Played records again. Denise and Lyle are friendly and helpful. I would stay there again.
