About this house rental
PLEASE NOTE: The house is booked or I am in it myself through the summer and into mid-October, 2024. Generally I know the availability of the house for summer by March or April of the same year. I am not yet accepting reservations for summer 2025.
Beautiful, private oceanfront house on 12 wooded acres on Islesboro Island, Maine. Islesboro is a 20 minute ferry ride from Lincolnville, a few miles north of Camden. It is an unspoiled, quiet place. The nearby towns on the mainland are some of the prettiest on the coast.
The house has four bedrooms: two queen beds, one full bed, and a twin bed up in a tower; as well as a sun porch with a twin daybed. There is a full kitchen, satellite Smart TV, very good wifi (the island has its own municipal broadband), fireplace, washer and dryer, charcoal grill. The property has 840 feet of private shoreline, with mussels to find at low-tide, if you are diligent. There is a vegetable and flower garden that may produce well into the fall.
New and old renters take note! As of May 2024, the house has air conditioning in the three main bedrooms, large bathroom and living room, kitchen and dining area in the form of split system heat pumps.
The island and the house are low-key. Although there are many activities on the island in the summer -- public beaches, trails, little nature walks for children, community center activities, opportunities for sailing lessons, etc. -- time spent there is largely about relaxing, ambling around, thinking about what to make for dinner, wandering to the shore and back, looking at the sky and water. The island is not "developed"; there are a handful of wonderful little stores, a farmers' market and a cafe open in summertime and there are two grocery stores and a library, but that is about it. It is an ideal place to unwind and be away.
This is a whole-house, private rental. Dogs are welcome and the property and island in general is a paradise for them.

We were consumed with the entire vacation experience. Mary’s vacation home is far more than we expected. The home was warm and inviting while being perfectly situated in a True Maine experience.
We reviewed many Maine vacation homes before deciding on staying at this well equipped home that had everything we needed. Pictures and words can not say enough about the peace we found at this home on Islesboro Island. Mary is a great communicator, a wonderful host and is very gracious. We look forward to our next stay.

What a wonderful place this house is! The location & views cannot be beat. The house itself is lovely & filled with all sorts of comfortable spaces & antiques with just the right amount of patina. In a time where so many vacation rentals all have the same, cookie cutter, “on trend” feel, it felt so nice to stay in a place that is clearly used & loved by its owner. All that + easy beach access!! We all loved being able to go down to the water at any time of day to swim, watch seals, beach comb or sit & enjoy the sunset & fresh air. I don’t usually write long reviews, but this stay was so magical it warranted it.

Wow. By far the best rental I have ever stayed in! The most beautiful and peaceful place I have ever been and the home was so lovely with everything you need to be comfortable. My husband and I and our two dogs had the most amazing weekend and hope to return again!

This was the second time we rented this beautiful home. The house is set up for success in every way. The owner is great about staying in touch and provides information for contacts on the island should anything be needed. The views are stunning. It is quiet, peaceful and rejuvenating. We cannot wait to go again!

Absolutely AMAZING place! The home was so beautifully decorated with small touches of antiques. Couldn’t ask for a better view, wonderful beach for a very cold walk.
Would love to return for another stay when warmer.
Overall many fun factors about our trip and the ferry!
Thank you

Twice before, in 22 years of traveling, we have come across a location that felt homey and offered a place to just “be”. This stay was both these things on steroids. WOW! So relaxing, and lacked all the noise of vehicles, sirens, noisy people, etc., and just offered serenity. Highly recommended!

We spent a wonderfully relaxing week on Islesboro Island. Beautiful cozy home, on secluded spacious terrain. Magnificent views of Penobscot bay and opposite Turtle Head peninsula.
Everything about this place was perfect! Welcoming from the very first minute. Very clean and comfortable. Well-appointed with linens, toiletries and fine kitchenware. Appealing home library. For “hobby cooks”, the selection of cook books is an experience…
Mary was a wonderful host, very responsive to the few questions we had.

The home is beautiful and everything you could possibly need is there. In fact, the power went out our first night and within minutes the generator kicked in. Our family had a lovely time-complete r&r. The views from the outdoor decks are fabulous and there are paths down to the water. We will definitely be back.

This was our second time renting Mary’s house on Islesboro. It is the the north of the island; very quiet with absolutely incredible views. It is a wonderful place to just relax and let the world go by. Also, my two dogs love it. Will rent again!

Amazing and beautiful home on a secluded 12 acres…what more could you want. The ferry was very accessible and made shopping on the coast fun. Durkees market was perfect, groceries and handmade sandwiches and pizza!

This past October my husband and I spent a wonderfully relaxing week on Isleboro Island staying in Mary’s house near Turtle Bay. This property lived up to every picture we viewed when deciding where to go. From the amazing waterfront views to the incredibly friendly islanders, we enjoyed every minute. You have to quickly get used to waving at the occasional oncoming traffic because every driver waves hello. Whether in the town community center or The Island Market, people were so engaging, helpful and friendly. Natives out for a walk will gladly recite anecdotes and facts about the island if you take a moment to pause.
When we first got to the house we tried to guess when it had been built. My husband pegged it for some time between 1925 and 1940. It was actually built in 2005 but infused with an older charm that we fell in love with. From the period doorknobs to the claw foot tub and the endless nooks and crannies, it felt like a much older home. If that was the design intent, then it succeeds spectacularly.
We love to cook and the kitchen was wonderful. We had everything we needed from spices to every type of coffee maker. My husband has now converted to only using a French press. The sunny day room behind the fireplace living room had a day bed that became my husband’s favorite place to nap.
Deer walk through the yard almost every day and the ocean view is perfect from all rooms.
If you enjoy quiet and solitude with a wood burning fireplace, you will love this house.
Mary was a wonderful hostess and was very responsive to the few questions we had. We spent a week there and took one day to go antiquing on the mainland. Loved this respite.

This is a wonderful place, especially if you’re looking for a remote retreat. Everything is very comfortable, and the kitchen is abundantly stocked. When we go back, I’d like to do it when the Dark Harbor Shop and museum at the lighthouse is open. It’s a beautiful island and home, and we are looking forward to going back in the near future. Enjoy!

In March 2020, we had to cancel the 40th birthday celebration of our colleague and friend. Two years later found us in this beautiful house on Islesboro. This house was perfect for the four of us (all high school teachers). The beds are comfortable and the kitchen well-stocked. We had cold, rainy weather but a fire in the fireplace each night saved the day! We did manage one hike in the Turtlehead Preserve. I would love to return in warm weather!

This property is simply beautiful. The view across the bay to Turtle Head Point is amazing. There is limited access to the waterfront, but there are plenty of public access to the waterfront on the island.

This island and this home are paradise!! Great place to get away from it all. We went during off season so the island is quiet and the views are outstanding.
This property is a one-of-a-kind and I know if you decide to stay here you will find it as amazing as we did.

The Islesboro people were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our stay. (especially at the island market) The home was extremely inviting, and offered amazing views (especially from the tower where we could distantly see Fort Point Lighthouse) We had everything we needed as the kitchen was well stocked. Mary was very quick to respond and very helpful. We enjoyed our daily adventures, our seal sightings, our little hikes, collecting sea glass, and browsing through the host’s great selection of books. An all around wonderful stay on a beautiful property!

We needed to get away after a year of the pandemic, and opted for the 90 min drive from our home in Maine to Mary's home in Maine. We had the worst luck with weather—snow in April!—but hunkering down in Mary's home was just what we needed. It was exceptionally well designed, and everything we needed was where one would expect it and at an arm's reach. I got the weekend for a special birthday for my partner and our first born son, who had just turned one. The open floor layout was perfect for him to safely explore, and he got some stair workouts in as well. Even during the peak of the storms, we loved looking outside to the gently sloped lawn down to the ocean, and found time to explore the wet weather outside during the baby's naps. Thank you!

Very well maintained and perfectly situated on the north end of Islesboro. Great views from nearly every room. The house had everything we needed for a much needed retreat.

A bit tricky to find but worth the effort! Beautifully decorated cozy coastal home nestled in the woods. We bought local seafood on the way and cooked a great dinner in the fully equipped kitchen. Played games, watched movies and took lots of scenic walks around the island. A well earned weekend Maine getaway!

We couldn’t have been happier with our stay at this home. The location was ideal - right on the water surrounded by pine forest and the home was stunning and comfortable. We can’t wait to return. Thank you, Mary, for everything.

This was the perfect winter babymoon we were hoping for! My husband, myself and our dog rented this house for the weekend as one last trip before we add to our family. Mary was so easy to get in touch with about questions before we arrived, and even checked in our us during our stay to be sure we were settled in. The house is beautiful, clean and has an amazing view. Mary has many notes about trails to hike on which were very helpful. We loved the Turtle Head hike. The kitchen had everything you could need and more. There was firewood provided for a cozy fire too. I definitely recommend this house for a secluded quiet weekend with lots of hiking, amazing views and a cozy stay! We hope to go back at some point during warmer weather to check it out again!

What a wonderful property at an affordable price on the peaceful and scenic Islesboro Island, ME. The house and views are every bit as good as you see on the host site. My wife offers that this was one of her best-ever short breaks. Our host Mary made the booking and check in process very easy and her information dossier at the property was very helpful. If you want a quiet spot to contemplate, study, read, write or just chill, this is it.
