About this house rental
Journey back through time and experience all that was good, familiar, comfortably sweet and endearing about country living. Forest Road 385 is a glowing example of a French Country Homestead and one of the first of its kind built in the Vail Valley. This stylish abode boasts an exemplary mix of rustic and refined, vintage and sophisticated. It exhibits a comfortable casual elegance that is never ostentatious, but feels authentically homespun. Whites brighten the decor. Quilts, drapes and even shower curtains seem ‘hand made and handed down’. But there’s nothing lacking in terms of modern convenience and everything has a bright, clean and airy quality about it. Bird pictures and black and white photos of forested landscapes create an atmosphere of naturalism that is distinguishing. The definition of antique is having value because of its aesthetic or historical significance. An antique treasure that isn’t antiquated, Forest Road 385 is the perfect country ‘home away from home’ in the heart of Vail.
Here is your chance to sleep comfortably in a historical landmark! This wonderful 4 bed, 3 bath single family home on Forest Road is a quick, scenic three minute walk to the fine ski slopes. Much of the fashionable furnishings and appliances are new. Off the back deck is a gorgeous forested area with a babbling brook, and the home is an approximately 8 minute walk to Vail Village. Overall, this iconic masterpiece is a wonderful value for those looking to be in the midst of all the action!

We stayed six nights to ski at Vail. The house is comfortable, well furnished, and a close walk to the ski slopes. We enjoyed the comfortable living room, kitchen and large dining table. Outstanding overall.

Week Stay in Vail
The property worked perfectly for your week stay in Vail. It met all the requirements with enough bedrooms and bathrooms for our crew. The kitchen was well equipped. It was a short walk down the hill to the Vail Village.

Great Location!!!!
Location location location!! Walk to end of road to ski down to catch chair lift. Walk to Vail Village and Lionshead Village.
Plenty of room for entertaining.
The “bedroom “ on main floor is setup like a separate studio apartment with 2 twin against wall. Toe to toe. Bathroom on main level is through that room.
Downstairs are the other three bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The King master was roomy and also had a door to outside. The hall bath didn’t work for our stay. Which made things awkward for the tother wo bedroom occupants as they had to come into someone’s bedroom to use facilities. We were reimbursed for 1 night by Vacasa for this inconvenience.
While this “historical” home needs some upgrading, it definitely was a great deal. And again the location!!
If bathroom was working, we would have had a perfect stay and would go back.

Very comfortable home!
We absolutely loved this house and the location. It’s about a 7-8 min walk down the hill to Lionshead Village. This home truly feels like “home away from home”. Wonderful family gathering area in the kitchen and living area. The kitchen was stocked with every single thing we needed for our big family meals. The upstairs bedroom with the 2 twin beds is a very large room, perfect for big or small kids. Property manager was super responsive and accommodating. We loved our stay in this home!

Nice location, but...
The house was very close to town; however, had I known that it was not on a bus route, I would not have rented this house, since an 81 year old was with me. It is within walking distance to town if you are fit and if you don't mind the snow and ice. Walking down the hill to the village in winter is treacherous, and we did not have a vehicle. The driveway was completely iced over and down a hill to the house, so attempting to drive down to the house would be foolhardy for anyone without 4WD and maybe even with it. The house is definitely not suitable for anyone with mobility problems, but if this is not an issue for your party, it is a good location. I was able to walk to the slopes and ski to the lift, so that was nice. The house was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. All was well until the heat quit the 4th day of our stay. It was not able to be repaired, and Berkshire Hathaway moved us to a beautiful condo in Lionshead Center. John was wonderful to us and very helpful in this process.

This is a charming house, well equipped and professionally maintained. Amazing location. We couldn't be happier and would love to return.

Bring your Vintage 80's one piece ski suit!
We had a wonderful stay at the Classic Chalet. It is a throwback! A very roomy layout- living area and a studio bedroom upstairs, the three other bedrooms were down. There are quite a few steps from the parking down to the upper level (if mobility is an issue). Our only problem was there was a rhythmic squeaking noise in the master bedroom everytime the gas came on for either the furnace or water heater. I couldn't block it with earplugs. The management sent a few people out to look at it, but it persisted the whole week we were there.
We walked from the Chalet half a block to the ski run- you are under the Lionshead Gondola and the Born Free Lift just uphill from the bridge into the base. At the end of the day, it's a bit of a hike up the hill to get back to the chalet (come down Simba or Born Free- look for where they unload the sleds on a red landing). There is room for a car to load/unload at this point, but no parking.
The place is on a beautiful lot surrounded by multimillion dollar homes. It must be quite scenic in the summer. It had plenty of uncovered parking- though we had to jockey cars around each other.
In the winter, this is not really walkable to town- it is a curvy, steep, icy road and probably would take 30 minutes to get to the village (highly recommend 4 wheel drive). In the summer, you could walk on the ski run right into Lionshead- a bit of an uphill back. We did not see any town of Vail transportation.

value property-worked for our family visit
This house is very convenient to Lionshead as it is no more than a 5 minute walk to the gondola area. I was disappointed with the very 2 suggestions/items needing attention--
Intermittent and weak WiFi. You could not conduct business on it for sure. Secondly, while the kitchen was equipped with many pots and pans, they were without tops and very old. A new teflon pan selection could be purchased at WalMart for under $50 and go a long way in helping renters cook(I have owned 3 rental homes!!). Thanks, John

Mountain-side
This house was perfect for a multi- generation family of 8.
Do be prepared to walk down & then UP the mountain road into the village. You have choices whether to walk down to Lionshead or into Vail Village.

amazing location on the best street in vail
This house was SO cute and charming. It had everything we needed for our stay and the location was phenomenal. 5 min from lionshead and 10 min to vail village. ON FOOT!!! Its a beautiful walk too. The beds were comfortable and there's plenty of places to sit and relax. We really loved the charm of this older Vail home over the newer rentals. Its managed so flawlessly too. The only thing we wished it had was a dvd player for those rainy afternoons in summer. My kids got restless. The wifi is a little spotty but from what we heard in town, its a town issue not a property one. Super easy to access the house in the summer. Worth every penny.

Vail ski house
Great location; walk 100 yds to slope. Kitchen was fully equipped, new appliances. Bathrooms a bit dated, but fully functional, lots of hot water (everyone can shower right off the slopes). Be sure to get a 4WD vehicle; driveway is steep, and could be tough to get out if it's snowy or icy. More than met our needs & expectations.

Great house and location!
Loved the house and location. The house was authentic amongst the huge mansions, which we enjoyed. The house was also clean and welcoming. Thanks for a great stay!!

A dated gem tucked in an amazing area.
It is dated with many off limit closets. It’s functional. This is perfect for a family. There are plenty of sleeping options. The location ON the mountain is ideal. We’d definitly stay here again.

Fantastic location - Walk to the Villages!
We loved our stay. The house was great for our group of 8 - spacious, clean, well-maintained home. Everything was seamless from booking to checkout. LOVED the location - easy and pretty walk to both Vail Village and Lionshead and nestled in the woods. Felt secluded but so close to the action. Would definitely return.

Great place! Would definitely stay here again.
Really enjoyed the unit. Great common spaces, very comfortable, ski-in / ski-out (with a short walk), spa access was clutch! Comfortably sleeps 9 (3 queens, 3 singles).
Only downsides were 1) not in town, so need to drive if you want to go to dinner, and 2) finishes are a bit dated. But for what our group wanted, this place was perfect! Would definitely book again.

Great location for skiers; walk past 3 houses and you're on the slopes. Very clean and comfortable house. It was a great place for our family Christmas.

What a peaceful, low-key place - great location!
This is an old mountain house with all the charm that implies, supported by good upkeep and modernization where appropriate. It's nothing fancy but the feeling it exudes of being settled and secure is wonderful.

Please change your directions tips because Forest road is closed in the middle on winter time. We lost 30 minutes because of this and hit by snow storm, our car stuck on east Forest road and we went home on snow with luggage...And was waiting towing to 3 am...
And give normal driveway to guests - car can not drive out from premice
