About this cottage rental
'The cutest getaway cottage ever'
That's what Better Homes and Gardens magazine called this little retreat when it was featured a few years back.
We call it the the perfect place for TWO Lovers, TWO Friends, Couples, Sisters, Brothers... Rediscover the bond that brought you close in the first place, connect like you've always wanted to, gain a new perspective with that special person in your life.
Celebrate? Escape? No matter where you are in life, some alone-time away can make all the difference in the world. Intrigued? read on...
TWO is located on a 1/2-acre wooded property, on the northern end of Harbor Country in the town of Sawyer. The Warren Dunes 1900 acres is right next door, and the beach is about a four block walk. A produce market and butcher shop are on each corner, so fresh provisions are never far away. Oh, and the incredible sunsets... It might just be the best memory of your stay!
TWO is a special little place. It has a soulful feeling. Maybe it's the 100 year old trees surrounding the house, perhaps it's the original pine floors and architectural details that date back to the 1920's. Charm yes, but this is not your typical 'cottage.' The house had a complete architect-designed remodel in 1997 and has been kept true to its principles ever since. Private hot tub, screened porch, it's all here for you to enjoy. The moment you walk through the door, you'll be reminded of what a great little hideaway you have found!
NOTE: the stairs up to the lofted bedroom are steep and very narrow. It's a historic property and do not hide this fact. If you have mobility issues, take a look at the photograph provided and make sure you can access the loft.
History
Known as 'LePin Cottage' (Pine Cottage) this humble abode was built in the 1920's and was used as a grape pickers' shack for the seasonal harvest. The home had no running water or electricity, and occupants were resolved to use the (still on property) outhouse when nature called. As the area developed and the vineyards moved inland, the house was abandoned and remained an empty shell for many years. In 1995 the house was purchased by an architect and his wife, and they set out to make the 'Cottage in the Pines' their family retreat. The renovation was nothing short of amazing. The house was put up on stilts and a new foundation was installed. The entire roof and joists were removed to make way for the new second floor, and an accompanying shed was located in nearby Indiana and transported to the property. The original windows and pine floors were saved, as was the footprint of the structure. The results were stunning. So much so that the home caught the attention of Better Homes and Gardens magazine, which paid homage to the renovation with a six page feature in the July of 1998 issue. Today the story continues. Each and every weekend, new memories and stories are created, as couples, and friends relax and enjoy this special place.

My husband and I visited Western Michigan for the first time and we will definitely be back! This historic, darling property is located right next to Warren Dunes State Park, which is a sight to behold. The sunsets are gorgeous and who knew Michigan has such beautiful beaches. The house was immaculately clean and well appointed. We dined at phenomenal restaurants close by and we attended a Christian concert that was one of the best we’ve ever seen. We thoroughly enjoyed reading and having breakfast in the screened-in porch. We loved everything about our trip Sawyer and the Tiny House. We look forward to visiting again next summer!

We love old houses and enjoyed staying here. It was a one block drive to Warren Dunes State Park and close to Antique shops in nearby towns. We also drove up to St. Joseph and would highly recommend going there. We didn’t use the outdoor grill or fire pit but they’re there if you need them.Would go back again for sure!

A lovely chalet tucked in the heart of Harbor Country is waiting for you to fall in love with, like Hubs and I did the moment we turned in the drive. Comforting and cozy, this house hums with a positive vibe that speaks volumes about the premier hosts' ability to anticipate everything any guest could ever need, want or imagine. And so much more! If you're looking for beautiful beaches, sunny sand dunes and well-tended nature trails to enjoy with the kids or your special furry four legged friend, look no further. If you need a little more action, a host of upscale eateries, wineries, antique shops, a nearby casino and various other nooks and crannies are open for your excitement and adventure. Even if you just want a place to hunker down and unwind, this secluded hideaway fits the bill. The outdoor hot tub, wooden chain swing, deck chairs and screened porch provide the perfect place to recharge, regroup and rejuvenate. Request to reserve right away. You'll be glad you did, I guarantee.

This home is a wonderful getaway rain or shine.

We found the cabin perfect for our extended weekend visit to the Warren Dunes area. Host provided excellent restaurant and brewery tips, and we found the area easy and direct to navigate by car. Nothing is very far away, but there are not many sidewalks, but plenty of walkers/bikers and an extended trail just a short drive away for recreation. There were pet bowls, pooper scooper, lead, and ball on site for our dog. The yard was sizeable for running around with our pupper!

The cabin was exactly what we were looking for. It was just me, my husband and our dog. The cabin was exactly as described. Including the steep staircase that our dog would not go up or down so we did have to carry her. We are both younger, thin/average sized people so the tininess of the cabin was not an issue for us but I could see that it would be uncomfortable if you were larger or older. Everything was clean and comfortable. The beach was so conveniently close. The host was so helpful with recommendations for places in the area that were pet friendly. Everywhere we went seemed to be well, if not overstaffed with very friendly people. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back.

We stayed here for the first few days of our honeymoon. It was beautiful, private, quiet. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable and welcoming. They even left us a beautiful rose plant as “congratulations” on our marriage! We also left our water bottles when we left and hosts were kind enough to hold onto them til we passed back through the area at the end of our honeymoon. What a blessing to us!! This cottage is within walking distance to the beach by way of a little trail down the street from it. We hope to be back. Worth the stay!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this precious cottage in the woods. We were there three nights. It is a quick walk into Warren Dunes State Park. Falatics Butcher Shop is right around the corner, and it's a short drive to New Buffalo and our favorite place to hang out, Round Barn Public House in Baroda. The hottub was amazing too. It was a perfect place to stay for a getaway over the New Year holiday.

My boyfriend and I spent our anniversary here and it was the perfect getaway from Chicago. Only an hour and a half drive! The property was exactly what we were looking for. It is cozy, private, and charming. All amenities were perfect and the home itself is lovely. If you’re looking for a romantic stay, this is the place to go.

We had a blast at Two! Clean, cute, and comfortable cabin. So cozy during this cold time of year with the stove and hot tub.
Very stocked kitchen and bathroom with towels and all the essentials. Great collection of games and cards, too!
The stairs to the bedroom are steep, but the listing makes this very clear.
Hosts very responsive.
Thank you!

This is our second time staying here, and again, it was absolutely lovely. The cottage has everything we need, and is so lovely. The location is great as it is so close to Lake Michigan, and many restaurants are nearby. The wood burning stove and the amazing hot tub are our favorite parts. We really enjoyed being there and hope to again.

The place was adorable. The stairs were a bit scary- but we were warned. Wish we had time to stay longer.

The property was just as described. It had everything we needed to have a relaxing a weekend. If you enjoy staying at old, historical properties, this is for you. It isn't practical. The bathroom is small and downstairs. The bedroom is upstairs and difficult to access, but it's worth it. The owner has added lots of little touches that makes the place feel like home away from home.

Although the weather didn’t cooperate, the stay was quite nice. Lovely small A frame. Loved the wood burning stove. We felt like we were at home. Overall good experience and would recommend for couples looking to get away. Lots of wineries close by, and would recommend eating at journeyman distillery.

We had a wonderful extended weekend stay at the cottage to celebrate an anniversary. The house was clean, had a well equipped kitchen, cozy wood burning stove, relaxing hot tub & comfortable beds. As the photos show, the steps are steep however we - two larger adults - had no trouble navigating once we got the hang of them (keeping our feet positioned sideways was our trick). It is a great location within walking distance to Lake Michigan and easy drive to nearby favorite towns, wineries, restaurants, breweries, etc.. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

My husband and I had such a fun relaxing stay at this adorable cottage! Check in was super easy, the host was very quick to respond with any questions and the cottage is exactly as described in the listing. If you love the charm of an old house then you will love staying here!!! We enjoyed the hot tub (which was so clean and well maintained), fire pit outside and walking along the beach. We also loved all the local antique shops! Perfect little birthday get away for my husband & I!!! Would definitely recommend!!

We felt as though we were in an isolated woods and it was lovely. The cottage is surrounded by a small wooded area which isolates the sounds from nearby roads. The place was immaculate and well furnished. It was lovely!

This place was perfect for our extended weekend stay in Michigan. It's nestled in a small town Hyatt outside of St Joseph and South Haven making it just short drive away from two bigger tourist towns with so much to do. It's also right around the corner from Warren Dunes

This property was exactly as advertised and was the perfect place for two people to enjoy. The walk to Lake Michigan was easy, driving to the state park couldn’t have been easier. Watching nature (deer, squirrels & bunnies) from the screened porch in the mornings & evenings was a pleasant way to start & end each day.

Cottage was even better in person. We love the area and it was the perfect setup for a long weekend getaway. Property had everything we needed in the kitchen, tons of firewood and very clean. We will definitely stay again!

The uniqueness of this cabin cannot be understated. Although small, space is adequate for two due to the layout, never feeling cramped. The kitchen appliances were exceptional, the pots and pans were a pleasure to cook with. The location is excellent, short walking distances to the beach, hiking trails, and farmers market. Our stay ended far too soon and we would gladly come stay again. We cherished every second.

We had a wonderful time during our stay. Originally we had cancelled due to an emergency but then were able to make the trip. Eileen refunded us the entire amount so we could rebook. We really appreciated her working with us.
5.0 / 5.0
This place is great for a couple, and as advertised. You do have neighbors, but everything is quiet and there are enough trees for privacy. No problem with noise, and we spent a lot of time on the porches (both a screened and unscreened) relaxing, reading, sunbathing, talking, drinking, etc. and we did not even notice anyone else.
As for the cottage, it is cute and perfect for two (just like they said). The refrigerator is a bit small, but other than that all is good. Jacuzzi was awesome! After hiking the dunes, the "hike up the steps" will work your calves again, so please heed the warning about the steps. It is really not a problem, but if you have mobility issues do not rent the cottage.
As for the area, the Warren Dunes are awesome, and the location of the cottage is great. IMHO too far to walk with "stuff", but a 2 minute car ride and you are at the lake. Our day at the lake, we got there at 9am, hiked 3 hours, and then came back for lunch. It was nice to rest at the cottage for 2 hours in our own kitchen/bathroom, and then return to swim. Then came back to shower/etc., and came back a 3rd time for the sunset. It is that close! Also, if you want to visit the Indiana Dunes National Park, it is about 45 minute drive.
The produce market is awesome, and there is a decent grocery store in Brigman (about 10 minutes for just about everything else). Being there during the week, the restaurant choices were more limited. We went to New Buffalo twice for dinner.
5.0 / 5.0
Cabin was great for my wife and our dog. Walking distance to the beach as advertised. Perfectly working grill and enough kitchen amenities to cook for ourselves all weekend. Sawyer is a gem and this place is a nice place to take it in.
5.0 / 5.0
The proximity to beautiful beaches was fabulous 15 minutes by trail or 5 minutes to Warren Dunes State Park. Enjoyed St. Joseph for shopping and dining. Would definitely return for another visit.
5.0 / 5.0
We had a nice and relaxing time. The beach was a walk we enjoyed. The Jacuzzi was great in the evening. We loved that we could bring our small dog with us. The swing in the yard was very enjoyable to have my morning coffee. We would recommend staying here and look forward to a future trip.
3.0 / 5.0
We stayed for three nights at this property. The first surprise was that the staircase was so steep it was basically a ladder. The treads were about 4” deep. You had to use your hands to climb the stairs. Going down was terrifying.
There is also the world’s tiniest shower. If you weigh more than 200lbs this might not be the rental for you.
We arrived to find the AC window unit off and the place was hot and humid. It never did get dried out even with the AC on full blast the whole time.
The fridge is also very very small, with no ice maker and one ice cube tray.
The screened porch was lovely. The living room had a bad view of the laundry area. The lighting wasn’t great. The bed was comfortable, but there was no room for bedside tables, and plugging in a CPAP was an ordeal. My husband also hit his head on the eaves getting into bed.
All in all it was so so. Not telling people ahead of time about the stairs was disingenuous. It was a major problem for us. If you have any limitations at all on your mobility or physical fitness, this is not the rental for you.
