Our second trip to Cat Island was incredible. Pigeon Cay beach is the best beach on the island with a good mile of powder white sandy beach to walk. The color of the ocean is spectacular and the location is perfect for the wind. We had a small breeze for a few days but were protected from the stronger winds. We did have to traverse over a few rocks to get to the main part of Pigeon Cay Beach but that was fun. The house is great and has everything we wanted and needed and more. The kitchen was VERY well stocked which was great because we cooked most of our meals. Good coffee maker, a comfortable bed, plenty of towels, and nice showers. We loved the outdoor shower with an amazing view of the ocean. We also really enjoyed the screened-in porch and ate dinner there most nights with some candlelight. The neighbors were all SO nice so I would highly recommend Pigeon Cay for your next vacation. Cat Island is beautiful.

This property is situated on top of a very high, and rugged cliff, with no usable stairs to the beach. After staying there a few days and after voicing our concerns about the stairs to the beach, they showed up and installed a railing
on part of the steps to make them partially usable. not disclosed in the listing.

House is in a beautiful location but is somewhat remote. One has to plan supplies like groceries or dinning out. Has access to a beautifully beach and others close by. Ideal for one who wants a peaceful vacation.

Loved it!!!
2 of us stayed at Carrie away for 12 days. We loved it! Maria the owner was easy to communicate with and the description of the house is very accurate. It was our first time on Cat island. Not knowing where to pick on the island we were so happy with our choice. We were able to explore the island top to bottom and side to side. The house was great! Loved being able to step onto the beach ( amazing water) swim, kayak and walk. The screened porch was helpful with the bugs. Which really were not bad..compared to other places we have been. We used the outdoor shower most of the time. Debby the caretaker is a lovely lady and very helpful. We would absolutely stay again and look forward to returning to the house and Cat island!!!

Relaxing stay at Pigeon Cay
We so much enjoyed our time at Carried Away! The owner was easy to work with. Property was accurate to pictures. Beach was pristine! Secluded with no one else in eye sight . This was our first time to Cat Island and it definitely feels like going back in time. No large groceries, no chain restaurants, most food items are shelf stable. We much enjoyed our vacation but a part of me missed the luxuries of a more populated area. Thank you for opening your home to use, we miss the sound of the waves already🏝

Spectacular View!
We really enjoyed our stay at this property. Kitchen certainly had everything you could possibly need - including a cock pot..very handy.
Highlights were snorkeling right off the beach, and walking over to the old church to snorkel.
We also loved our Island tour with Danny King. His wealth of Island knowledge, enthusiasm and professionalism made our Cat Island tour truly memorable!
When visiting out islands - be prepared for no see ums. We brought a variety of bug sprays and had 2 Benadryl tablets daily. They bite some people more than others, best to be prepared:)

Enjoyable Bahamas Stay at Cat Island
We really enjoyed our stay at Cat Island, probably more so than the other islands we visited. The next door neighbors on both sides were very friendly. Debbie, the housekeeper, was very helpful in arranging things for us. Danny King was great with the car rental, picked us up at night and took us to the house. The owner was very easy to deal with. Would recommend this house for healthy agile adults who can go down the rocks to the beach, and climb over the rocks to the right of the house, during high tide, in order to get to the long stretch of gorgeous beach on Pigeon Cay, and go for a stunning beach walk. The house worked for us.

Pleasant house in quiet location
Carried Away is one of 4 properties at the far end of Pigeon Cay, which is a nice, secluded part of the island. The house has lovely sunset views and has all the basics you need in a home, including aircon which is a godsend on hot days! Screened off porch allows for relatively bug free dining although you will still need bug spray, especially around sunset/twiglight as the no-seeums were out in force during our November stay. Debbie is extremely friendly and helpful and always on hand should you need anything or have question. The rooms are comfortable and the kayak was really helpful as it allowed us to paddle up to the main part of Pigeon Cay (we weren't brave enough to clamber the rocks to walk to it!). The island itself is beautiful and, for us, thankfully tourist lite. We were able to get all the groceries we needed on the island (New Bight has a couple of good stores, as well as 700 Wines, a great store for wine, spirits and beer). We ate out at Shanna Cove, Fernandez bay (both low key but very nice resorts) and Hidden Gems in New Bight, would recommend all three. I'd recommend car hire to go exploring, although you could probably do the island in two days, leaving plenty of time to relax on the beach and at the house. If you're looking for high-end, chi-chi resorts/villas then Cat Island probably isn't for you, however if you want relaxed island charm at its best then i'd definitely give the island a visit. Carried Away is a pleasant house, Maria was on hand with lots of advice on where to go, how to hire cars, getting to the island etc and the check-in with Debbie was very friendly and efficient. Would recommend both the house and the island.

Perfect Location - Peaceful and Quiet
This was our second stay at Maria's Carried Away and would stay again. The house is well cared for and well appointed, especially the kitchen. Debbie is so fun to talk with as she knows everyone on the island and is a great resource. If you are looking for party central this isn't the place for you. Do your research re no-see ums/sand fleas for prevention and after bite care. If you are a mosquito magnet you will likely be a no-seeum/sand flea magnet. Annoying but not so to ruin the holiday. There is a great hike out the front door and to the left to Alligator Bay. - about 6k. Beautiful views of the sea. If you are up for a more challenging hike ask Debbie how to get to Winding Bay. As you clear the bush you walk onto a white sand beach and there are no humans in sight.

A great home in a beautiful setting with everything you need to relax.
We love Carried Away. It's in a private setting with everything you need to enjoy a relaxing time right on the beach. The decks, screened porch, and direct beach access provide everything you need to read, dine, snorkel and fish. We enjoy walking the beach and bike riding around the island. The house is well outfitted for cooking and beach going. There are a number of local restaurants where it's easy to meet and mix with locals and other island visitors in relaxing settings with great local seafood cooked up fresh.

Peaceful Getaway
Carried Away was a lovely house to stay in - clean, well equipped with a large bright kitchen. Firm, comfortable beds.
Spacious verandah with nice shade & extra large loungers which were very much appreciated!
The outdoor shower was well thought out.
We enjoyed eating breakfast & dinner in the screened in porch which gave protection from the no-seeums.
Great location on a small beach with good swimming & very quiet.
The view from the house was stunning - turquoise sea & perfect sunsets.
Incredible night skies.
Debby was a delight, it was lovely to chat with her about the island.
Danny King was most helpful arranging our car rental & with giving us directions to a spectacular beach on the Atlantic side of the island.
Looking forward to returning to Cat Island & Carried Away!

Serenity.
My 90 year old mother, my sister, and I just spent the most wonderful week on Cat Island, staying in Maria's property. It was perfect. Her home is located on the most beautiful beach, with lovely native plants landscaping the property. The house is clean, beautifully maintained, and has comfortable furniture and amazing views of the ocean. We found every possible kitchen utensil, and as we cooked most of our own meals, used most of them! Maria's place is perfect for relaxing, regrouping, and recharging..... we aren't much for the night life, so we would wander out in the daytime, seeking a fish/shrimp/conch/ lobster lunch from one of the cafe's open this week. Most of the time we read, talked, walked the beach, used the double kayak, and just reconnected as family. We had a wonderful surprise one afternoon when we stumbled into a private birthday party at Da Smoke Pot, and the folks insisted we stay and join in.... thus was our introduction to Rake and Scrape music!! and everyone was so gracious to my mother, all calling her "Mom"... it was precious! I truly hope to return to this lovely place. Kudos to Danny King and his sister Debbie for their generous assistance and lovely advice. We always felt that we were in the best hands. Thank you Maria!

Gorgeous, private, and tranquil...we adore CARRIED AWAY HOUSE and will return as often as possible.
Debbie our caretaker is a true island gem. We requested fresh grouper and red snapper and Debbie delivered. The wood fire grill is amazing for cooking fresh fish. The beach is a rocky in the front of house but about 50 yards to the right is a soft white sand beach that's a real dream. Found many beautiful small shells. This will be our go to house on Cat Island. The people on the island are amazing. They are genuine and true and not just because we were tourists. Maria the owner of CARRIED AWAY HOUSE is amazing to work with and excellent communication always. A lovely and fun filled experience will await you on CAT ISLAND AND CARRIED AWAY HOUSE.

We stayed at Carried away the first week of July for 10 days, this was our third time in Cat island but the first time staying in Pigeon cay area. The house is exactly like in the pictures is not fancy but is very nice and clean, the porch is wonderful with the best beach chairs made of wood and comfortable thick cushions. We never used the gazebo we preferred the porch and the views from the house were amazing. The beach has rocks by the entrance to the water so you would need water shoes, but once past that the sand is so soft.Because of storms I think the sand comes and goes (I think there was more sand at one point maybe hurricane?) but at low tide you see a sandy beach it was beautiful! The water is shallow and warm and there are some areas to snorkel in the beach, we found so many shells and few sand dollars (the shells I found the most were turkey wings and angel wings and some others I don’t know the names)We love the outdoor shower even if the water pressure was not that good it was better than inside the house. While we were there we had a horrible storm one afternoon furniture went flying around and the wind ,rain, thunder and lightening was very scary we even saw little tornadoes in the water and of course we lost power for about 6 hours but miss Debbie was so nice she text and called to let us know that the whole are was affected, few hours later she even came to the house to check on us and to let us know she kept calling the power company and not to worry, the only problem was that the stove and water pump work with electricity so no dinner and no shower that night! But the power came back at 11:17 pm 👍 The only thing the house needs is a new mattress in the master bedroom and a new TV. This is very important. Please bring lots and lots of bug spray Benadryl and calamine lotion I usually don’t get bitten but let me tell you the ate me alive I got almost a hundred bites that drove me crazy for days and that’s with bug spray! 3 different kinds! the no see ums were inside and outside the house and it got worse after the storm. The only place that a got a little reprieve was in the bedroom because of the AC (AC only in the bedrooms)My sister joined us for a few days she got more bites then me the worst is she got an allergic reaction to the bites and she ended with blisters! She was miserable and it look horrible! for years I been trying to convince her to come to Cat island and now I think she would never listen to me again.

Perfect quiet beach house
We spent a week in June here and it was exactly what we were looking for. If you are wanting total privacy and relaxation, this is the place. The house is beautiful and has everything you need to prepare meals and relax on the beach.
Some tips to share that we learned as we went along:
Contact Danny King on the island for transport/car rental. He is very helpful! A car runs $70 per day and it is a must unless you buy all your supplies on the way in and choose to stay at the house the whole trip.
The snorkeling in the water in front of the house is really great! Don’t be afraid to go out a bit deeper to see big coral heads with loads of fish, giant barracudas, sea turtles and loads of colorful invertebrates. We loved it!!! Bring your flippers, as they have two masks and snorkels.
Be sure to bring lots of bug spray. The no-see-ums are 24/7, even inside the house (screens don’t keep them all out anywhere) and they’ll mess you up. With spray, no problems!
The outdoor shower is the only one you’ll use. Period. It’s amazing.
Be ready to completely relax in crystal clear, glass-like water with no one else in sight for days. It’s your own slice of pristine beach.
We loved it!!!

Beautiful house
We landed in Nassau and notified the care taker of the house we were able to get on the earlier flight. She said no problem. We contacted the car rental guy and he was there right on time. We followed him to the house where we met the caretakers husband who allowed us in. The home is beautiful and was super clean. The landscaping and grounds were nicely kept up. The views are amazing and the many places to sit on all the covered porches were awesome since it rained all six days we were there. When we got there the internet was down. The caretaker went out of her way to get it fixed the following day. In the meantime she had the neighbor come over and introduce himself. He gave us the neighbors code next to us so we could log into his wifi and use that to contact our family and check work email. Hubby did get stung by a scorpion while we were there when he went to put on his shirt in the morning so make sure you shake everything. The only complaint is that the master bed is very uncomfortable and slopes in to the middle. This makes it very difficult to sleep on a double bed with two people. It could use a microwave. The outdoor shower is wonderful, kitchen was well stocked, beach is the softest sand. This place is a great place to have a relaxing vacation even if it rains.

Beautiful place!
My wife and I spent a delightful week at Carried Away. Maria's home is very comfortable and easy to live in with a well equipped kitchen and a screen porch that we used for all of our home cooked meals. The beach and water are as close as the photos show and the gazebo is perfect place to read or nap once you've had enough sun. The kayak and scuba gear allowed us to cruise up and down island to visit some of the other private little beaches that line the Cay. Cat Cay has plenty of places to explore with little restaurants serving up delicious local seafood. Everyone we met was pleasant, helpful, and welcoming. We'll be back.

The house was perfect, with an amazing view perched over a beautiful beach
The beach was quite private and the sea was perfect for swimming. The house was well equipped with everything we needed. We loved the multiple lounging options of open and sunny deck, covered deck, screened in porch and palapala on the beach. The open living and dining area was spacious and the kitchen was well equipped. Comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms and everything was clean when we arrived. Also possibly the nicest outdoor shower I have ever used. Danny and Debbie couldn't have been nicer or more generous. Thank you Maria, for sharing your beautiful home.

Slice of paradise!
I really hate to say how great this house is because I really want to rent this house again and don't want to get shutout of future dates. But, oh well... It was fantastic!
The beach is very private. There are rocky outcrops at both ends which deters almost anyone from coming to this beach. There are a couple of other houses on the same cove as this house, but they were mostly empty the entire time we were there, and never heard a peep out of them. Over 2 weeks, we saw a total of 4 people on the beach.
The house gets great breezes from off the water (west) and over the island (east), so it stayed cool and we never had to use the AC.
The kitchen was the best kitchen I've had at any house I've rented in the Bahamas and I've stayed at 5 or 6. Lots of utensils, pans, pots, etc. Also, the house came well-stocked with things like toilet paper, sponges, etc. (which most houses don't seem to supply).
The real jewel of the house, though, is the outside shower. I think I took a total of 2 showers indoors the entire time I was there. Nothing better than a late afternoon shower looking out over the water after swimming all day.
We even had the Cat Island version of "Amazon Fresh". Reverend Johnson stopped by with a minivan full of fruits and vegetables. It's always a little slim-pickins at the grocery store, so it was nice to have it come to the house. (Note: Danny King has great veggies as well).
The screened-in porch was great for just lounging and drying off swimsuits and gear that you didn't want to get blown away overnight.
Lastly, Maria was great to work with and she was very accommodating with a last minute scheduling change we had to make with our trip.

What a great 8 days of sand, sun and surf. For this price there can't be a better place to stay on the island. The photos do not do it justice - absolute Paradise!
