Nice spot, very European in feel, nice wood interior and backs up to the mission river. Walking distance to everything.

Would stay here again!

Very short walk to State Street. It was so nice to not need a rental car. The condo was perfect for our needs.

We took our 5 year old son for a 4 day weekend in Santa Barbara and what a treat! This place is small, yes, but has everything you need! We made breakfast every morning, packed fresh lunches from the fridge, and ate dinner out on the town. We walked to the beach, the pier, and several other attractions. The only “struggle” was the parking, but it was NOT hard to find a spot on the street.
10/10 would stay again!

The roof top garden was a treasure

My sisters and I rented all 3 units for a weekend reunion. We loved staying here and would happily return. Recommended!

Great location. Close to the beach, State Street and the Funk Zone.

An unbeatable location, Chapala Gardens is a favorite. Great WiFi and a bright and sunny upstairs desk location for remote work. Nice to have the shared rooftop terrace for relaxing and dining. Thank you Sandy for sharing this lovely spot!
4.8
Very nice place, easy access to everything. Could use a few finishing touches but appreciate its cost relative to other properties in the area.

walking distance to harbor, wharf, state street, beach and the funk zone. just the kind of unique and quirky accommodation that we love, matches the character and charm of SB. Had everything we needed for a great visit.

This place was really charming and included all of the necessities. Bed was really comfortable, and the upstairs balcony/patio was really cool (the back patio was a nice bonus, too). But honestly, we didn't spend too much time in the property because the location was SO great. With just a 5 minute walk, you can get to the beach or to the Funk Zone and its amazing bars, restaurants, etc. Being close to the train station (about a 3 minute walk) was helpful, too ... it does bring some train noise (which didn't bother us too much) but it made continuing our trip on to LA very, very easy. When we visit SB again, this place will be at the top of our list of housing options.

We enjoyed our stay in unit 3 and the location eas perfect for us. We either walked or biked everywhere. We love spending time in the funk zone and it’s only a few blocks over
We already have another trip booked The Chapala Gardens
Sandy was very responsive too!

Perfect location. Friendly host. Bedroom was a good size. Great patio. If using the pull-out couch to sleep, will take up the living room. Bathroom is upstairs, steep staircase so be careful. Shared rooftop garden space was really cool.
4.8
Very conveniently located, nice little private patio, suited our needs and satisfied our desires.
4.8
Perfect little apartment for 2 friends to stay and separated enough for when work needed to be done. The outdoors is nice with a little table but nothing fancy
4.8
Great location, clean, pretty quiet and charming.
4.8
Cozy, great sleeping, close to the shore, and easy to get around from there.

Very clean and well kept also enjoyed the ducks in the little stream behind the unit very nice stay

This rental exceeded our expectation and couldn't have been more perfect for my wife and I. Thanks

Great location. Good and helpful communication with the host. The upstairs room was heated during the heat wave condition in the area, however the host provided 2 fans that offered some relief and more manageable condition. Our stay was pleasant, overall.

We love the apartment, the owner and the location! I do feel it is overpriced and repairs need to be made. The windows do not fit properly and insects can fly right in. They are also very difficult to close. The blinds don't all open or close and are in bad shape. One screen upstairs has a hole in it with a piece of tape making a chute through it. The back door is difficult to open and close because the knob is too close to the frame. It's probably warped. The water takes 3 minutes to warm up which is a terrible waste of water. If you want to fill the tub and turn the water to hot it just dribbles in. There were ants every day in the bathtub. The sofa bed is as hard as a rock. The little patio is in bad shape and could be spruced up very cheaply. The wood lattice fence is rotted and falling apart. The paint is peeling.
These are all pretty minor fixes. I do believe the owner should replace the windows and back door because they would be easier to operate, look nicer and save energy in the winter.
All said we still loved the place. We have traveled the world and stayed in a lot worse! It is just more expensive than any place we have stayed including 5 star hotels in Chicago, San Francisco and Seattle so until these repairs are made the price should come down a bit.
BTW: The rooftop garden next door is really special!

Great location! Had a huge roof deck that was available. Little smaller than I expected, little louder too. Location was very convenient.
4.8
Great location, clean and in the heart of fun. Nice little patio outside. Be aware of the steep and tricky steps going upstairs to the bathroom & bedroom, they are not suitable for someone with difficulty.
I will come stay again. 😊

Very nice and clean place and located very close to the beach. I would book this place again.

I was in Santa Barbara for a friends wedding and wanted a place near some of the festivities. This was perfect for my sister and I! The unit was clean and very cute! Nice view of the canal and super close to funk zone restaurants and bars as well as the beach. Hosts were very hospitable, bringing fresh tomatoes from the garden and checking in during our stay. We would stay here again!

You couldn’t have asked for a better small flat to explore Santa Barbara from! We walked and walked and walked on a beautiful Saturday! Read the other reviews for some of the small details that might make some think twice but for us the place was wonderful!
4.8
Convenient location, close to the beach and lots of good restaurants on State St. Quiet street.

This apartment is very clean and bright, and we enjoyed looking out the kitchen window at MIssion Creek, with its ducks, frogs, and even an egret and a heron. We love the location. Santa Barbara is a very easy city to navigate—almost everything is within a 15-minute drive. But I particularly like this rental because I can walk to the harbor and enjoy a long walk by the ocean.
We had previously stayed in Unit 1. Unit 3 is probably a bit smaller, and we knew from other reviews that the only bathroom is up a steep flight of stairs that goes to a loft bedroom. We had no problem with that, but prospective renters should be aware. The apartment is great for a couple, or for a family with a couple of young children, but I would not recommend it for two couples.
The kitchen is small, so we mainly used it for breakfast. However, it had everything we needed—coffee maker/grinder, toaster, even a Bullet for smoothies. In addition, there was enough coffee in the cupboard that we never had to buy coffee.
I noticed that at least one renter complained about the noise from trains—we didn't think that was a problem—maybe because I love to hear trains!
Sandy is a generous and caring landlord—easy to get in touch with, accommodating and quick to take care of any issue. The bed is extremely comfortable and fitted with all-cotton sheets. There are plenty of towels, and the large washing machine and dryer are a few steps from the back patio (which also overlooks the little creek).
We took advantage of Sandy's hydroponic roof garden, with its beautiful (and delicious) lettuces and other greens—all of which Sandy encouraged us to take.
We usually go to Santa Barbara at least once a year, and this time we stayed for two weeks. I would definitely recommend renting any of the three units Sandy has to offer.

A great spot, few minute walk to downtown and the beach. Had everything you needed for a relaxing time

My wife and I needed a place to stay for 3 weeks while she underwent some medical treatments. The apartment is exactly as pictured- a cozy space. It worked for what we needed and is a nice space. I think it was just too small for the amount of time we had to stay. (And that is on me) I did find it odd there’s no door to the bedroom and a closet type shuttered door for the bathroom. So there’s no real privacy. The kitchen was hard to cook in because it’s so small. There were no scissors to open packages, dull knives and no real space to prep food. So we did not use the kitchen as much as we thought we would/could. But for making morning coffee, a light lunch or snacks, and food storage it worked fine. It seemed most people staying in the triplex were only there a few days so cooking is probably not important to most. The bed is super comfortable and there were plenty of towels and extra blankets. The rooftop garden is a wonderful place to hangout while socially distancing, read a book, or have morning coffee. We really enjoyed spending time up there. The location of the house is great. It is walking distance from the beach (2 blocks) and all the happenings on State st. Although the location is great it is noisy. The windows are very thin so you hear everything..... the ducks, which I rather liked, but they are quite vocal in the morning. The next door neighbor who wakes up and puts on Metallica then proceeds with his home renovation and yard work which require power tools. And anyone on the rooftop patio as it is connected to your closet. Also the train right behind the house. So if you are a light sleeper this would be a problem. Obviously the owner cannot be held responsible for the noise level of the neighborhood, but I feel it’s worth mentioning as it’s not something you can see in pictures but definitely impacts your stay. The owner was very responsive whenever I reached out about an issue and worked to resolve it. Overall this was a great little place to stay. The location, and rooftop garden are key features and make it unique. Despite the few cons I’m still giving a five star rating because I feel everything was accurately represented, clean, easy check in, good communication and great location. We would definitely stay here again in the future. Hopefully under different circumstances. Sandy- thank you for the hospitality!

Two blocks to the beach and town. We walked everywhere- a car is not necessary. The owners were extremely responsive and helpful.

Cute apartment, close proximity to beach and the Funk Zone! Owner very responsive to questions.

Worked well for the 2 of us. Parking was challenging but it was a Holiday weekend also.

This property was lovely. Great location, we could walk to so many places. The place was very comfortable. Sandy is a great host.
4.8
Such a treat to stay here, we had a great time in Santa Barbara and enjoyed having this place to land
4.8
I was in SB for work and this was a great location-close walking distance to all the State St restaurants, etc and close to the beach. It was great to have a place to sit that wasn’t a bed-much better than staying in a hotel. The place was very clean and the bed was comfortable.
4.8
Unless you have absolutely no other options, keep looking and pass this place by.
The only thing going for this property is the proximity to State St. The place was shabby, you had to walk up a winding wooden staircase to get to the bedroom. There is no maid service. The room overlooks a water causeway that looks like a sewer. The bathroom is old and antiquated. It was also invaded by a colony of ants every night. The coup de grace was when I was leaving, there was a pair of dirty old pants just outside the door obviously left by an unfortunate homeless person. There is no on premise staff to address any of these issues. I am not sure what the service and property fees of $200 per night were supposed to cover, but as an addition to the $200 per night charge for the room, it was a total rip off.
Once again, do any thing to avoid staying here.
