We had a fabulous stay! I think the previous renters moved the remote controls into the wrong rooms, so we never figured out the TV, but no big deal. Excellent location and just what we needed. Thanks again!

House was very clean on inside but outside needs to be cleaned better. There were spider webs in all the bushes, edges of windows, & mailbox, which is right at front door. TV is not a smart TV & Chrome Cast is not available; it's only a regular TV so was a little disappointed (& the remote had been lost when we arrived. Rental agency wasn't aware of this or only regular TV was available.) Very quiet & nice walk to beach.

A Shore Thing is the perfect beach rental for our family. It’s equipped with everything you need....just bring your clothes and groceries! A great backyard for grilling and enjoying family time after spending the day at the beach. The best location, too! We have decided that it will become our annual vacation spot! Thanks for a terrific stay!

This house fit our needs for a family of three. Location to the beach, town, and the park can’t be beat. Neighbors were great too! There were a few maintenance issues that could use to be fixed, but otherwise was fine.

Super Professional!
There was a minor error with the online listing as this property does allow pets and my son and I are highly allergic. The realty company was AMAZING to work with and get everything sorted out to ensure we had the best vacation!

Cape Charles vacay
Overall, we had a good time on our vacation here. A few things about the house- one of the shower doors fell off and was just “hanging on”, and google chrome cast was not there. Reported these things to realty company on a Monday when they opened. Response was “thanks for letting us know”. Wednesday came, and when we tried the dryer it did not work. I called again to report that and follow up on the other 2 things I reported. I thought someone would fix/ replace the items but nobody did. They did, however, refund part of our stay. I appreciated that- they understood the inconvenience of these issues. We do look forward to visiting the area again! Love Cape Charles!

We had an amazing time at A Shore Thing! The location is perfect- a short walk to the beach, town, or Central Park. We especially loved the back deck and the amazing selection of DVDs to watch. You will just love this place!

Cute house…but some issues
Overall the house is very small but cute. Disappointed with they property management company due to the fact that the dryer didn’t work and we packed very little knowing there was a washer and dryer. When I called them to let them know they said they couldn’t get anyone out til next week to fix it. We were given keys to a different property to use the dryer but it was not convenient at all due to we had to drive there and we had a toddler with us.
Also, we went to us the grill and the propane tank was empty. I messaged the property company and there was no response. All these things should have been checked prior to our arrival. We were slightly disappointed.
Otherwise it’s close to beach which is great and neighbors were wonderful!

House was very clean and represented accurately. Our family of 4 enjoyed movie nights. Great location. Close to beach and downtown. Our first time for the 4th of July week. Loved the parade and vendors. Lack of wifi was a little bit of a challenge but manageable. Looking forward to coming back next year!

Best Beach Bungalow
This was our first time staying in Cape Charles, and first time using Chesapeake properties. The management firm was amazing. I double booked accidentally, and was refunded immediately with the most friendliest attitude! The home itself is perfect for a small family, or couple. Has everything you need! Walking distance to beach, shops and restaurants. A great place to stroll and check out all of the amazing historical homes and buildings. One of the best parts of our stay, was our neighbor, who is a lifelong resident. If you stay here, please say hello, you won't be sorry! We will definetely be back and feel like we have made a friend for life! Thank you Cape Charles, and Chesapeake Properties!

Quaint and perfect for us
Our stay at “A Shore Thing” was wonderful. The house is clean, tidy, cutely decorated but minimalist. This is an appreciated feature when traveling with two young kids (ages 7 and 11) but it might not be everyone’s taste. While dated, it is in good, working condition. The house had just about everything we needed - washer/dryer did well (leave the closet door open when using the dryer for better airflow), coffeemaker, water filter, iron/ironing board, bed rails and large fan in closets. The kids were excited about the XBox (older version) but we were unable to get it to work. All was well because the internet was good for all of our devices on the rainy days. Otherwise, at two blocks from the beach, we were there or down at the pier fishing. Other reviewers mentioned ants but we had zero show up during our week here and stored our pantry items on microwave or on the fridge. The Location of this House is perfect with a quick walk to the beach, park, or Mason Ave to shops and restaurants. The one big thing that would be a nice change is a cover or awning on the beautiful back deck to allow extra outdoor seating as it is about the one house in town without a covered porch for sitting. In spite of that, we hope to return next year to this house as it was perfect for us and our expectations. We also enjoyed meeting Ms. Patty next door - a local that we made fast friends with. I highly recommend A Shore Thing - just don’t take our week! :)

The cottage was convenient and comfortable. Our stay was off-season. Unfortunately there was not much--shops or restaurants--open in Cape Charles during the week. Covid19 was also responsible for several businesses shutting down entirely. So it was a quieter vacation than we had envisioned.

Love Cape Charles!
Property was just as described. Great for a getaway for my hubby and me. Location is great, easy walking to the beach area, restaurants and shops. Would stay here again!
4.0 / 10.0
Disappointing
The house is need of repair and updating. You can tell that the cleaners do a great job, but the house itself still just feels gross. The pillows on the couch were old and stained. There was food stuck way down in the couch. Again, this is something I wouldn't expect the cleaning service to know. I only know because my child lost a toy and when I reached in to try to get it out, I almost threw up. There are TVs in every room, but they only have like 5 channels. There are a ton of DVDs, but no instructions on how to play them in the video game system. The queen bed is extremely noisy and uncomfortable, and the fitted sheet doesn't actually fit, so it pops off every time you move, so you have to get out of bed and adjust it during the night. You can't open the closet in the bedroom because the side table is in the way. There was a weird Polaroid picture of teenagers inside or the lampshade...it was bizarre. There were several cans of raid under the sink and we found out why on the second day. We woke up to ants in all of our dry food that was on top of the microwave and inside the cabinet under the microwave. We had to throw it all away and spray chemicals inside and outside of the house. They only provide 1 towel and washcloth per guest, so I needed to wash them halfway through our trip. It took the dryer over 6 hours to dry them, and it kept randomly shutting off. The washing machine smells. The vacuum smells. The location was good, but Cape Charles is so small that pretty much any location is good, so. Overall, I was extremely disappointed. We just did as much as we could outdoors and away from the house, and tried to just look at it as a place to sleep. I would not recommend this place, and I feel like I wasted my money staying here.

Reviewer Comments:
House was clean inside, but front exterior needs cleaning and washing. Interior was small but included everything needed for a short stay. TV instructions says to use Google Chromecast to get streaming channels. I plugged in my Apple TV box, which worked fine, once I found the HDMI plug behind the screen. Internet was fast. Washer/dryer worked well.Housekeeping was responsive to request for more toilet paper rolls. Leave the AC running. Turn down cooling if it gets too cold. If you turn it off, you must press reset button and sync with bedroom wall control to get it going again.Biggest complaint was that ants emerged from range/oven every night at dinner time! I sprayed with bug spray left under sink, but housekeeping should treat for ants after every cleaning and then monitor.

Expected to wash towels and Strip Bed
The DVD didn't work. TV in living room only received 2 channels and wouldn't play DVD. Check in; key wasn't in box, lucky we arrived before woman in office left for day because our keys were inside. When I asked for instructions she said"actual step by step instructions." Like we were supposed to know how to get there. Check out instructions; wash towels and Strip Bed. We have rented MANY vacation homes and were NEVER expected to strip beds and wash towels we use! Positive short 2 block walk to beach.

Location of property is great for Cape Charles. Very quiet and very roomy. Great for families. Owner
Adorable little cottage. Very clean location is close to everything, well stocked. Other than food there's everything in there that you need. I'm already thinking about making another reservation. Would certainly stay there again.
